Anyone else find this story trashy & extremely contrived? A 4+ rating but not up to Harding's previous standards, such as The Perfect Family (very good!)

She could’ve done her usual run and had a car pick her up in the obscured area where Lee had been parking and left a jacket or something on the beach to symbolize that she had been there. The second part of your question though, she thought her mom may be alive so she did not want to flee the country before finding her. Although you would think that either way she would’ve gotten the passport previously so that once she found her mom she had the option to leave asap.(less)

What was the significance of the guy that worked in the diner and saw Lee in by her car with Jesse? He was focused on a couple times early on and I thought he was going to play more of a role. Did I miss something?
