Once upon a time, I had a job which was a source of joy to me and didn't feel like a chore or work at all. Only downside was the weekly meetings where the superior and a couple of others would talk about a problem that could be handled with a couple of suggestions, for hours. Every fucking time. And, were they kind enough to let me daydream, while they were patting themselves on their backs for having all those amazing ideas and the lyrical way they expressed themselves? No, I was expected to make comments frequently. Can you guess what I did? I fucking quit! Because, I am allergic to thunder cunts. And because I didn't want to go to prison for tearing out their tongues and shoving them up their arses.

The reason behind the whiny tour of my memory lane is similar problems I encounter in books more and more. Telling the same things in circles, underlining every plot line more than once, giving the same information again and again -sometimes even in the same paragraph. Is this a new trend? Are we at a point where even authors confuse the power of words with repetition? Maybe they just think that all readers are morons with severe memory problems? Liking the sound of one's own voice to the point of streching a sentence into 10 minutes speeches is annoying in person, but in writing it is worse.

To be fair, this book is not the worst example of this affliction but I was feeling bitchy and umm bitchy. Anyways, I've found nothing interesting in the story to force myself to keep reading. It was full of I don't know anything, oh look, the wind slapped a paper on my forehead. lemme read it. ahhh this says I am a druid and Deidre is my archenemy. okay, how do I defeat her? upps I tripped on a book which says I need to shake my titties to the warrior in kilt to win the fight over evil. the end. kind of plot lines. Seriously.

Donna Grant starts off the Dark Warriors series with a bang! With a swoon-worthy hero and a smart and steady heroine, there is no way this equation can go wrong.

In MIDNIGHT’S MASTER, we find Gwynn Austin on a hunt for her missing father. She travels to Scotland where her father was last seen, but can’t find any more supporting clues to his whereabouts. On that same day, Logan Hamilton travels from the past into the future to find Ian. As they both hunt for their missing persons, they find each other instead.

But that is not the only thing they find. The more time they spend together, the more Logan feels this telling magic surrounding him. It isn’t until later that he realizes that it is coming from Gwynn. Later, she finds out she is a Druid with the ability to hear the wind. And as more secrets unfold, more danger threatens to take over.

Fans of the Dark Swords series will have much reason to rejoice because this book has a similar feel to the past books. I loved how intricate the world is and can only imagine the amount of time and planning Grant spends on these books to make these stories flow as well as possible. Though this is the first book in a new series, there are familiar characters that play a huge role in this book and lots of backstory that enhances the plot. However, even if you haven’t read any of Grant’s previous books, I don’t think you would feel lost either. She does a good job of reminding loyal fans the details of the world as well as educating new readers on what has happened already. You can trust that you won’t be lost at all.

I like the way Grant builds her stories because though sometimes it can be slow in the beginning, she really pushes down on the pedal when it counts. The latter half of the book really interested me and I loved how involved the past characters were in this book. It showed this unity between the Warriors that I loved and seeing your favorites once again is always entertaining.

With a world that is sure to entice readers and have them begging for more, Donna Grant has me on my knees, waiting for the next thrilling installment in the Dark Warrior series. MIDNIGHT’S MASTER kept me up all night!

I think the first thing I need to point out is that this is the first book I have ever read by Donna. This is important because it is also a spin off from another series her Dark Sword series. I never picked up that series due to the fact that it is historical. When I heard that her Warriors were going to jump through time and have a spin off series set in present day I decided to give it a try. I’m glad I did. I can’t wait to read more about these Warriors and Druids. I even enjoyed the villains (more on that in a sec.)

Midnight’s Master is Logan’s book. If you followed her other series you’ve known him for some time. For newbies like me I met Logan as he was being thrown a little over four hundred years into the future. He and a few of his brothers have come to this time to continue their quest in ridding the world of the evil Deirdre. He also has to find one of his missing brother Warriors.

Gwynn happens to be in the same area of Scotland as Logan. She’s looking for her father. He has been missing for close to three weeks. Logan immediately senses that Gwynn is more than what she believes herself to be. Part of Logan’s mission in life is to protect the Druid’s. He tries to convince himself he is merely protecting her, that he isn’t good enough for her, he fails. His failure in the lies he tells himself makes for a really sweet romance.

The pertinent information and happenings from the six DarkSword books is retold in a very smooth manner. It is through Logan and Gwynn’s conversations that new Donna readers find out key events from the other books. I liked this. It worked well for me and did not ever feel like rehashing. Logan has to give Gwynn the details of her history and heritage, it just happens to be the Druid and Warrior history from the other books.

Logan and Gwynn eventually team up with the Warriors and Druids from the other series. They are immortal after all and have been waiting for their friends to return to them. This is a great group of characters. I liked their personalities and what they contributed to the team. They all have a like goal when it comes to ridding the world of the evil Deirdre. I read many series books, I like to know what past couples are up to, so this is a boon for Donna’s Dark Sword fans.

All good books need a despicable villain or villains. I really liked Deirdre and Declan. They are evil, they have an even bigger evil backing them and giving them power. I also love to get sections of a book told from the villain’s point of view. I enjoy knowing some of what is going on in their heads, what their twisted and convoluted reasons for the things they do. Donna delivers on this front.

All is all this is an awesome book. I’m looking forward to where the series is going. I can’t wait to see what evils Deidre and Declan have planned in future books. A new Druid female was introduced towards the end. She has a very interesting ability. So if you ever thought about giving Donna a try and like me just don’t care for historicals go get this book. It is a wonder book that will immediately draw you into her world of immortal Warriors, magical Druids and the evil woman that wants to rule the world.

Present Day. Texas beauty, Gwynn Austin travels to Scotland in search of her father, a university anthropology professor who was evidently in Scotland doing research when ends up missing. To Gwynn's dismay, she finds that the university her father worked for did not send him to Scotland and things become more curious. Instead of finding her father she finds misplaced Warrior, Logan Hamilton, who is on his own quest to find fellow Warrior, Ian Kerr.

Logan has traveled through time from the 1600's in search of his friend, Ian. The task won't be an easy one because evil Drough , Deirdre has also traveled through time and she wants the Warriors found for her own misbegotten gains. Deirdre does not care how she accomplishes her task of of taking over, and if the world comes to find out about magic, then so be it. With her Warriors and her beasts, the wyrran, Deirdre thinks she can accomplish anything, even though she is "guest" to Declan Wallace, the man who brought her through time.

When intriguing Highlander Logan meets the sassy Texas native Gwynn, he is immediately attracted to her spunk as well as her beauty. Logan sets out with Gwynn on her quest to find her father and hopefully achieve his task of finding Ian , who now, since his twin brother, Duncan's demise at the hands of Deirdre, must come to terms with the full power of his God, Farmire ( god of battle) wreaking havoc inside of him. One of Logan's other tasks is to find an artifact and keep it out of Deirdre's hands. Along the way,Logan finds there is much more to Gwynn than meets the eye and magic surrounds them both

Along the way Gwynn and Logan find they have much more in common than one would think for an out of time Highlander and indomitable spitfire. What will happen when Gwynn is faced with finding her true calling? Will she and Ian be able to overcome the obvious differences to come together? Will they both accomplish their quests and survive against the odds? Read Midnight's Master to find out.

After reading Midnight's Master by Donna Grant, I was so happy to see the logical direction she has taken with this innovative twist on her Highland Warriors. What better way to add intrigue and depth, than to bring it all into the 21st Century? Ms. Grant is right at home in Midnight's Master and one can tell. She takes fish out of water, Logan kicking and screaming into modern day with interest and humor. Gwynn's explanation on the use of a razor to the thoroughly confused Logan is memorable, to say the least. I really do believe that there are so many possibilities for the Warriors being brought through time, and I for one cannot wait for the next story to be told.

Logan has his issues, like any of the Warriors who have been through Hell and back since having their Gods unleashed, but his journey is an awesome one, especially when he has spunky Gwynn to take it with him. I highly recommend Midnight's Master by Donna Grant. Midnight's Master is refreshing, exciting and mysterious all rolled into one.

I was unsure what I was expecting with this first book in the spin-off series. I really enjoyed the Dark Sword series. It's a historical series in the highlands of Scotland. The last book in that series threw the evil and a few of the warriors into the future. That's where this book starts.

Logan is one of the warriors. He's been thrown into the future and everything from paved roads to cell phones are an amazement to him. He came to the future to help his friend, Ian, and to find an artifact that will help them destroy Deidre. In his hunt, he is drawn to Gwynn, to her magic. The strangeness of this new world, the need to find and help his friend and his need to help Gwynn all tare at Logan. It's interesting to watch him deal with it all. And, of course, I love him. I definitely cheered for him.

I felt sorry for Gwynn from the start. She has the most awful father ever. All the family she has left, she fights to find him. But this man is not worth her time. It was sad and it endeared her to me. Her search leads her to Logan and together they hunt for her father. Soon they are working together to deal with the evil that is growing all around them.

I enjoyed both of these character. They felt like family to me and I very much wanted them to be together. I wondered how much of the characters from the previous series would be around. They do play a part along with a character we haven't seen in a while. From the previous series, I have become close to them. I welcomed them and was grateful for their appearance. They have lived through the 400 years that Logan was thrown. It was fun to see them already understand the things that Logan is confused by.

The writing is sensual. Descriptive and vivid, the words paint a picture that's alluring and engaging. I always enjoy this authors writing. She's good at portraying this Scottish story. She has me good and stuck.

The transition to this modern world in this spin-off was done well. I enjoyed the historical tale and am still enjoying the story of the Warriors and the Druids in the modern world. I'll definitely stay stuck in this series. Have you read it? You should.

I'm so confused as to the love of this book. Goodreads has lead me to almost all of the books I've read and yet it lead me to this one. I'm confused. Why on earth is this book getting such good reviews, it was awful. Truly terrible. It was badly written like a book and it offended my senses.

The part where he sees her drive past him and immediately falls in love? What?! Then they meet awkwardly and apparently she feels like she's in love with him too (he wasn't even described to be that hot, he's wearing a kilt for gods sake and theres no mention of 'even in a kilt he looked surprisingly manly' or 'the kilt was enticing because i wonder what is under it'...none of that he's just described as a man in a skirt....ooo shivers...).

The whole meeting of the couple was just bad. Some books have that love at first sight thing and even though you think it's a bit silly but you get over it because it's a book about vampires or something and that in itself is quite silly when you think about it, but theyre well written you barely notice the fact they've just met in good books.
Here its like: 1.Meet 2.Im in love with you, never let me go....
if that was real life it would go more like this: 1.Meet 2. I'm in love with you, never let me go 3. RESTRAINING ORDER

It's just awkward don't bother with it if i were you...

Gwynn went in search for her father who disappeared to Scotland. When she gets there she finds more than she bargained for. A battle for good and evil but Gwynn also finds something more about herself and a hot highlander as well.

Logan travels through time to try and prevent the awakening of an ancient evil but what he comes across is a whole new world and the changes it went through but also Gwynn.

Both characters have a pull to each other but there are things that are getting in the way including themselves.

I really liked this. I'm always searching for books similar to the Black Dagger Brotherhood series or the Immortals After Dark series, and this fulfilled that need! Logan seemed hotttttttt and perfectly alpha, while Gwynn was tough and didn't doubt herself like many lead characters do. There was a good amount of suspense and it was really well written. I'm excited to see how the next rest of the series goes!

This first book in the Dark Warrior Series by Donna Grant was a pleasantly fun read. It gained a rating closer to 3.5, and although it had many of the features that I love about the romances I read, it just lacked that "oomph" to becoming a more dazzling 4 or 5. What did I love? Well, it had time-travel, a sexy and magical highlander, Scotland and its picturesque romance, danger and suspense, and of course SEX. Usually, a story containing all of these would hit a home run with me, but it just lacked that special something. Although I liked the hero and heroine, they weren't unforgettable, especially the heroine. I loved the magical element, but the fantasy of the magic was made duller than it should have been, and I think this was due to the 20th century time-setting, i.e. a little magic surrounded by a lot of mundane happenings. I did, however, love the time-travel element and that the hero and heroine eventually end up in the romantic past of Scotland with their HEA. A definite read for those of you who happen to like these same topics/elements. Donna Grant has earned a place on my TBR list for her new/upcoming second book of this series.

OK this isn't a cliffhanger on the main storyline but... she tries to weave in the stories of Malcolm (the warrior serving Deidra, the evil drow), Ian (the twin who lost his brother and now has to control his god alone), and Camden (warrior at the castle that carried Saffron, the druid seer that was kept in Declan's castle). They are all left in limbo. I call this a J.R. Ward wannabe, stringing along multiple stories. Luckily this series has an ending, book 8. Still the storylines are not as compelling. I kind of feel like reading Camden and Saffron's story but could easily hang it up here even with the evil overarcs of Deidra and Declan hanging in the wind.

So the main romance is good. Maybe a little too simple and quickly done, a fated type lovers and them not accepting it. I wish we got more of the women together to see how they work. Instead we only get the save and introductions to the crew. This is obviously a spin off as there already are a several couples. I didn't feel that I missed anything mainly because she spends time explaining. So Gwynn feels that every one that she loves leaves and Logan feels that he doesn't deserve love. She has a dreadful father, why the mother loved him and forces that, we will never know. So, they take their time accepting a physical relationship and even longer for an emotional one. It was good over all but I think I was distracted by the others and their stories going on.

So a good romance with a little too much of other people's stories and cliffies for those. This ends nicely.

Midnight’s Master is the beginning of Donna Grant’s Dark Warriors Series.. The Dark Warrior Series is not exactly the beginning of a series rather the middle where the Dark Swords take a slight turn.. Oh they are still fighting evil, most especially Deirdre and they are still working hard to control their inner gods.. but they have been fast forwarded to the future.. or rather NOW.. It’s hard to make a huge transition and make it work. There are so many issues and factors that could go wrong. Happily Donna makes the move with skill and style.

Upon the death of the Warrior Duncan, Ian’s twin Deidre was caught up in a maelstrom of power and flung into the future. She managed to drag some of her minions with her along with Ian. The Warriors and Druids found a way to send a select few as well. We take up this story with Logan having found himself in the alien atmosphere of 2012 Scotland. As confused as Logan was he managed to use the skills that he had learned as a Warrior and start adapting to the 21st century. And his legendary charm hasn’t failed him yet. Logan seems to be drawn to Eigg and yet isn’t sure why. He was sent to find Ian not search Eigg and yet...

Logan is a man adrift, trying to make up for one really bad choice in his past and to deal with the guilt of that life. He is the youngest of the Warrior’s having been only 100 when he was sent to the future. The guilt and his youth make for an intriguing combination. Playful, sensitive, charming and yet always aware what can happen if you make the wrong choice. He is also forever a protector.

Gwynn, is a Druid whose powers had remained hidden. Lurking in the depths of her essence. Until the death of her mother she was ignored and abandoned by him and yet finally she feels that they have a relationship and she is completely distraught to find him now missing. I like Gwynn because even though she has issues from her past she isn’t a whiny, wimpy character. She takes action.. Dad missing, Off to Scotland to find him. His job won’t help her, she threatens them with the FBI.. Finds a hunky man from the past, she works with him to not only discover who she is but to search for a missing artifact. Nothing passive about this girl.

Logan and Gwynn work together to find the missing artifact on the isle of Eigg.. I like the way the learn together. It is a more equal relationship than many because while she is learning about her powers, something Logan has a history with and knows about.. He is learning about the current times, something Gwynn can teach him. They each recognize the strength in each other.

As this is a book about the Warriors, Deidre is never far away.. she has found herself held captive by another Drough... one determined to connect with her and then rule the earth with her forever. Declan is devious and a 21st century villain. Poor Deidre *snicker* has to deal with some time in captivity herself. Too bad.. *grins* I am not sure if Declan is Deidre’s equal or not only time will tell but I really like his insidious evil.

The one thing I worried and wondered about when Donna brought her Warrior’s forward was if we were going to see all of them and MacLeaod’s keep. I kept thinking poor Logan was going to go to the keep and find it a ruin, with everyone either dead. Ms Grant kept me guessing for most of the book.. And I am happy to say she dealt with the keep, Warriors and Druids in a feasible manner. Explaining how they might possibly survive 400 years unknown.

I have always liked the Dark Sword Series and feel that Ms Grant did a successful job of pulling them forward while keeping the mystery and magic of her stories complete. You seriously have to read this book!!

This was actually pretty boring compared to her other series. This series is a continuation of her other series, but her villians have jumped from back in time to the present.

The premise is that there are druids & warriors with a god inside them trying to stop another druid, Dierdre, who has unleashed the bad god in the warriors.

This book is about Gwynn who is in Scotland looking for her father who has disappeared when he goes on this sudden trip from Texas quitting his job as a professor at a university.

Gwynn finds out she is a druid after running into Logan who had time jumped 400 years. He is a warrior. All warriors and their eventual wives compliment eachother in there powers.

This one was low on conflict & they were searching for a tablet most of the time. I can't really say much except it seemed to be a forced continuation of a series that ended... so what??? just jump through time & start over? I dunno!!!

This book just got me in a terrible mood. I can't even think of starting a new one because this one annoyed me so much....

Where to begin?...

First, I thought this would become another favorite series because it started out pretty good, but right in the middle it just got boring and slowed-paced. The plot and ARC story were really lame, I just felt like I was losing a lot of time as the pages didn't say anything important. Then it also got too corny and surreal. I don't like characters which accept changes in reality as if nothing important was going on, and we see a lot of that in this read. This book was a bit superficial, and the characters just lacked spine.

I will give this series another chance though, because it may get better.

I know... I know... I said I was giving up on this series, because it jumped the shark for me. And while I won't retract that statement for my review of "The Darkest Highlander", I will say that perhaps it *was* a good idea for Ms. Grant to move the series into the 21st century. Maybe.

We last saw Logan Hamilton on a trip to the Isle of Eigg with the Warrior Duncan, who shares a god with his twin Ian. They were trying to locate one of the Druid relics (the Tablet of Orn) that can lead them to Deirdre's twin sister, Laira, the only one who can finally kill Deirdre. The tablet was in the keeping of the massive Druid community on Eigg.

But suddenly, Deirdre showed up with her wyrran, some new Warriors that she created, and Malcolm (Larena's cousin). At Deirdre's command, Malcolm murdered Duncan, and a fight began. Except that in the middle of the fight, Deirdre, the wyrran, and Malcolm just vanished - sucked into the future (or so it was decided) by an unknown drough Druid. Logan returned to Castle MacLeod with Duncan's body, only to discover that Ian also vanished about the same time. The Druids at the castle determined that the spell was a time travel spell; they recreated it and sent volunteer Warriors Logan, Arran, Ramsey, and Camdyn time travelling into the future, hopefully into the same time as Deirdre ended up.

Turns out Declan Wallace is the drough Druid who brought Deirdre forward in time - into 2011 or thereabouts. Declan has decided that HE is the one in the prophecy to create the uber-child with Deirdre and rule the world. In a humorous turnabout, Deirdre doesn't want anything to do with Declan - I suppose, because she's not interested in sharing anything, and she's likely a little afraid of such a powerful drough. So Declan has her imprisoned until she comes to her senses. Sound familiar, Deirdre? *snicker*

Using her wyrrans and her cleverness, Deirdre manages to break away from Declan and return to her beloved Cairn Toul mountain, where she summons her master, the Devil himself. Her master tells her not to be concerned with the relics - that's what almost caused the MacLeods to defeat her and allowed Declan to bring her into the future. Even her master thinks that Deirdre should join with/mate with Declan and let it all be. In this time, most of the Druids are gone, especially the mie Druids. He tells her the Druids at MacLeod Castle are still there, and he warns her that if she doesn't do as he wants, he'll replace her with Declan. Which doesn't seem to stop Deirdre - when has it ever?

We discover that Declan has Gary Austin, a professor from Austin University who's obsessed with Scottish artifacts. In particular, an ancient book that Declan owns - a book that can locate the Tablet of Orn, which Declan wants, because it's a Druid artifact. Gary all but abandoned his wife and daughter, Gwynn, for his research. And a few weeks ago, he disappeared. Gwynn is looking for her father in Scotland, where she was able to find the last GPS trace of his cell phone. Gwynn and Gary have had a difficult relationship; mostly, Gary didn't want anything to do with her and treated her horridly. But Gwynn's mother loved him dearly, and her dying wish was for Gwynn and her father to be reconciled. So they started a strained relationship with occasional visits and weekly phone calls; except Gary never told Gwynn anything about visiting Scotland or why he's gone. She's concerned that something's happened to him, and so she tracks him to Mallaig, near the Isle of Eigg, where she meets Logan. Because Logan is still drawn to Eigg - still trying to locate the Tablet of Orn.

Logan senses Gwynn's Druid magic, but she's not willing to admit it until she hasn't a choice. Then she remembers that her mother had her "tested" and discouraged her from using her magic - magic on her father's side. While on Eigg, Logan and Gwynn run into an old lady, also a Druid but one with little magic left, who tells them that there is always a Keeper of the book - the Book of Craigan, which, of course, turns out to be Gwynn. I guess not her father, because Gary has joined forces with Declan to translate the book, so he's no longer "pure". But because of that (or because he's not the Keeper), the letters and words keep changing, making the translation process difficult and frustrating both Gary and Declan.

Once Gwynn embraces her magic, it flows and grows within her, and she discovers that the wind talks to her. Handy, that. Especially when Logan and Gwynn beard Declan in his lion's den, tracing Declan as the last owner of the book. Despite sensing great evil and danger, they both confront Declan, only to end up in a fight. Logan uses his god's power over water and Gwynn her power of the wind, but Logan is still shot by bullets filled with drough blood. Gwynn knows that he's dying unless she can find Castle MacLeod, but Logan never told her where it was; so her Druid magic takes over and leads her to the castle, where the Druids we know and love heal both Gwynn (also shot) and Logan.

Here's my main beef: In spite of the Castle MacLeod occupants living through the last 400 years, there aren't but the children we knew about in the previous books - only 2. Wouldn't you think that the Warriors and their wives would have gotten busy and have a castle-full of kids and grandkids, etc., by now? And why not? Since they've mostly been in hiding without any real enemies to fight, doesn't it make sense to have as many fighters (can't be Warriors, because the gods only pass to the next in line when a Warrior dies) and trained Druids as possible? This made absolutely no sense to me. Had they all been hurled through time, yes. But we don't even get to meet the 2 new kids... they're off doing something somewhere. Which means they're not important at all. Huh. So we're stuck with all the "originals" that we already know. Too bad that.

Logan's still carrying around his "darkness", which we learned at the end of the previous book was that he *sought out* Deirdre at Carin Toul to find out if he was a Warrior with a god inside him. She brought his Warrior forward, expecting Logan to work for her; but instead, despite his original intent, Logan turned on Deirdre and has been trying to kill her ever since. But he's stuck with his guilt and shame over asking for something that the other Warriors think of as a curse. Huh. Not such a big, bad thing after all, is it? Call me crazy, but that doesn't seem nearly as dark or as nasty as some of the other Warriors' secrets, like Broc.

Anyway... Gwynn and Logan to the rescue. Justice for Gary, who's revealed for who he really is. Deirdre and Declan temporarily defeated. Everyone safe again at Castle MacLeod with the Tablet of Orn and the book. The other 3 Warriors (Arran, Ramsey, and Camdyn) all return to Castle MacLeod at the end, too late to be of any real help. Gee, talk about change your mind as an author? Or just hold out for their stories later?

Ian was hurled into the future (time period unknown, but definitely 20th-21st century) onto a mountain covered in snow. He's mostly out of the picture, crawling into a cave to try to heal his injuries and figure out what the heck is going on. The next book in this series is about Ian.

Yes, I enjoyed parts of this book. But yes, I'm still cynical and probably heckling the author a bit for her choices. But hey, I bought the book, right? Again the question is, do I continue in the series? Still no answer.

Tres estrellas.

This novel is the 1st in the spin off series, "Dark Warriors" by author; Donna Grant. In the last novel of the "Dark Sword" series, "Darkest Highlander" it ended where a few key characters were blasted to the future unexpectedly. This novel is where it continues and also the beginning of the new series, "Dark Warriors". Ms Grant does not let the reader down in this novel at all! It's full of adventure, romance, action and suspense. This was a fun and excitingly quick read. Very enjoyable and refreshing. I do recommend this series, novel and author however, I would recommend reading the the "Dark Sword" series first so you don't feel lost with the characters and their stories. Happy Reading!

An outstanding story, do not miss it! Taken from my review at RomanceJunkies.com

Gwynn Austin, a Druid, has always had a fascination with Scotland, its legends, myths of magic, Druids and Highland warriors. Fearing her magic, she has tamped it down within herself, refusing to heed it, since she was young. But more than once she has wished for something, only to have it happen. Her mother died three years ago and since then, her father, an anthropology professor who had at one time spent more time on his research than with his family, has suddenly become a devoted father. But she has not heard a word from him in three weeks and she is sure something is wrong. Tracing her father, she found that the last place her father had been was in a town in Scotland so she set out for there. But as she sets foot in Scotland to find her father, she feels a tingling awareness.

The Druids in 1603 had cast a spell to send Logan Hamilton, an immortal Scottish warrior, through time, along with three of his fellow warriors, to find their friend and comrade Ian. Due to an ancient god within him, Logan is able to pick up the language of his destination easily. The god inside him is Athleus, the god of betrayal who wants nothing but death and destruction. His god can also control water and Logan is headed to the Isle of Eigg, an isle surrounded by water. Just before being transported to the future world of 2012, Logan’s friend and fellow warrior Duncan had been killed by Deirdre, an evil Druid whose mission is to take over the world. Right after Duncan’s death, Deirdre had escaped to the future with Ian, Duncan’s twin. Ian and Duncan had shared a god. Now the full power and rage of that god could take over Ian, if he cannot control it. With the god in charge, Ian would be susceptible to Deirdre’s wicked plans, so it is imperative that Logan find him. Logan has also been sent to find an artifact known as the Tablet of Orn, an artifact needed to bring down Deirdre.

While walking around the town and showing her father’s picture to everyone she sees, Gwynn meets Logan, who can sense the magic in her. The attraction between them is instantaneous, but Gwynn needs to keep her mind on finding her father. When Logan, suspecting a link between their missions, offers to help her find her father, she reluctantly agrees. While in Scotland, Gwynn discovers that though there are few Druids left, she is one, and she is the new Keeper of the Tablet of Orn. Now if she can just find it. But as she and Logan spend time together, they cannot deny the powerful attraction that sparks between them.

Meanwhile, Deirdre, who has been locked away for the past three months by a powerful evil Druid, makes her escape and goes to her headquarters in a mountain known as Cairn Toul. Deirdre uses Druids, killing them and stealing their magic to enhance her own. With very few Druids around anymore, she sets her sights on the one strong Druid on the island…Gwynn.

Logan is determined to protect Gwynn, even if it costs him his life, which it just may, since the evil Druids now possess powerful bullets that will even kill the immortal warriors. Will they find Gwynn’s father and, more importantly, when danger strikes will Logan and Gwynn make it out alive?

Absolutely delectable, MIDNIGHT’S MASTER, the first book in bestselling author Donna Grant’s DARK WARRIOR series, is an action-packed, sensual paranormal romance that will draw you in from the very beginning and hold on until the very satisfying ending. Logan is battling a secret from his past, which he refuses to confide to his friends. This secret makes him feel unworthy of Gwynn, so he struggles with his feelings for her. But their passion is not to be denied. Gwynn has not dated in some time. After her mother’s death, she feared being left behind so was not willing to chance it. However, when she meets Logan, she is drawn to him as she has never been drawn to a man before. These two were definitely well matched, and their chemistry was explosive. The only drawback I see is that after reaching the end of this book, you will find it difficult to wait for the next book to be released. Brimming with passion, adventure, time travel, complex and engaging characters, danger, mystery, romance and a forever kind of love, this book may be my favorite paranormal romance of the year. As I eagerly await the next book in Ms. Grant’s enchanting DARK WARRIOR series, MIDNIGHT’S LOVER, which is due out next month, be sure to get your own copy of MIDNIGHT’S MASTER. I highly recommend it!

This is my first experience with Donna Grant. I also have never read a book about Druids before. It was a pleasant experience, but not life-altering. I also felt that because I didn't read the other books by Donna Grant, I was missing some backstory that may have made me make a better connection with the secondary characters.

Gwynn is looking for her missing father in Scotland. Logan is a time-traveling immortal warrior, on a mission to prevent evil from re-awakening in the world. They meet, and team up to solve the mystery.

What I liked:

-Gwynn. She was likeable, independent and not a hot mess. She got stuff done and was not a pushover.
-Declan (evil dude). He was despicable but oddly intriguing. I'd read 400 pages about him doing his laundry.
-The slow building start of the romance. Sure there was the instant-attraction thing which is typical with paranormal romance, but I felt it was well developed over the course of the story.
-The twist

What I could have done without:

-The indecision! Oh how I loathe indecision. We all know what's going to happen with the main characters' romance - just make a decision already and move on.
-Logan's bad decision regarding Dierdre. Yeah we get it, you made a mistake and you're punishing yourself and you're afraid your family won't like you anymore. Grow some balls and again... move on with the story.

I changed my rating literally 4 times before I settled on 3 stars. I'll probably more in the series, eventually. I do recommend it for those who like strong heroines and magic.

I’ve heard oodles of great things about Donna Grant, but have never had the pleasure of reading her works….until now. And, I must say that I am beyond please with the outcome of what I read. I was swept away instantly into the heart of Scotland, following characters who take the reader on a whirl wind ride, searching for a missing artifact, overcoming evil, and fighting sizzling attraction. Donna layered this story perfectly, keeping me completely hooked until the last page was read.

Gwynn Austin has left Texas to search for her father in Scotland. She hasn’t heard from him in too long and fears somethings wrong. When she arrives in Scotland, though, things aren’t what they seem, especially after laying eyes on the world’s most gorgeous man…in a kilt. What’s more is, this sexy man seems too confused by the modernity of the world today. But, she needs him, despite the fierce attraction she feels for him, to help her find a missing artifact and her father.

Highland Warriror Logan Hamilton comes from the year 1603. He’s been propelled to the 2012 in search of Deidre, the evil one who killed a fellow warrior’s twin brother, and is out to set evil throughout the land. What he wasn’t expecting was the complete and utter protectiveness he feels for a human. But, when he lays eyes on her, his protectiveness kicks into gear. It’s not until he’s helping her search for her father, and an artifact that can help him, that he learns the truth about Gwynn.

Can Gwynn learn who she truly is,as a Druid, in time to save her father….and her ancestors land? Or will her Dark Warrior loose out on all he’s come to love when the devilish Deidre and Declan connect?

Donna kept the suspense kicking it, and the romance was perfect. The magic was believable and the evil was masterful enough to round out the story. It’s most definitely one of my favorite paranormal romance novels to date. This book is deserving of more than just simple praises, but I will say that you need to read this. It’s awesome. I am looking forward to reading book 2 in this series, Midnight’s Lover, and hope to see more of Logan and Gwynn, as well as the other awesome Druids, Warriors, and Droughs! I will also be going back and adding Ms. Grant’s previous works to my pile of must read books! Well done, Ms. Grant, on a masterful novel!

Yes this series is a spin off of Donna Grant's Dark Sword series, yes there are character's and couples from that series in this book, no I have not read that series yet(but I plan to) but I did not in any way feel lost because I had not read them. I know most of our long time readers are probably in shock at this statement coming from me. It has been well documented that I am a little OCD about things being read in order. But knowing that, I hope it reaffirms that you do not have to read the DS series to thoroughly enjoy this book.

This book starts with Gwynn Austin looking for her missing father. She travels to Scotland where her father was last seen, but isn't finding any clues to his whereabouts. Logan Hamilton is one of four who travel from 400 years in the past to the future to find one of the missing Warriors who was brought forth in time by the same entity that brought Deirdre. As both Gwynn and Logan start their search, they find each other and soon learn that they will both need the other if either is to succeed.

This book moves at a fast pace with just enough action, history, back story and romance to make it a very balanced story. Ms. Grant does a great job of weaving the story line from the previous series with this story so that you feel informed but not overwhelmed or bored.

Logan is a man with dark secrets and you can tell from the beginning that he is working towards atonement. His sense of loyalty and honor are his driving force.

The more I learned about Gwynn and her past I couldn't help but feel sorry for her. She needs the strong family ties that comes from the other druids and warriors at Castle MacLeod.

We get not one, but two truly evil villains in this book with Declan and Deirdre and you really don't know which one you want to die first.

This was a great start to the new series and meshed the best of both the historical and contemporary. This is a definite read for those of you that enjoy any type of fantasy/time travel/sexy highlander books!!!
