Two homicide detectives must separate the puzzling truth from a growing web of lies while investigating a murder victim’s friends and lovers in Lost Beach, Texas.

Detective Nicole Lawson is fed up with her job and nonexistent love life. Her first date in months gets cut short by an urgent call from the chief of police. A body has been discovered at Lighthouse Point, and the medical examiner finds an array of strange clues. When the death is ruled a homicide, the news quickly reverberates through Nicole’s beachside hometown.

The Lost Beach police department swings into high gear. Leading the investigation is Emmet Davis, a veteran detective who is Nicole’s fiercest rival at work and also the man she has secretly harbored feelings toward for years. With Emmet calling the shots, Nicole sets out to search for leads, starting with the enigmatic yoga instructor who first discovered the body. Nicole is certain the witness knows more than she’s revealing and may even hold the key to unlocking the case.

When another person turns up dead under suspicious circumstances, Nicole sees a bizarre pattern, but no one believes her theory. Under the gun to solve the case, Nicole must put aside her tumultuous feelings and work closely with Emmet to figure out who is targeting her beloved hometown . . . before she becomes a target herself.

Laura Griffin has interwoven a police procedural and crime novel with plenty of suspense and some romance in Liar’s Point. Solid investigation tackles the many lies the police are told. It’s filled with evasiveness and a growing sense of urgency. This is the fifth book in the Texas Murder Files series and is set in the fictional town of Lost Beach, Texas.

Detective Nicole Lawson gets a call from the chief of police while on her first date in months. A body has been discovered near the lighthouse. As the medical examiner does his job, he finds several clues pointing to homicide. The police chief assigns Emmet Davis as the lead on the case when Nicole feels she should have been given the lead. When a second person is found dead, no one seems to believe Nicole’s theory that they’re related.

Nicole lacks time for a personal life and is frustrated by this. She’s competitive, self-confident, observant, and has good instincts about people. However, she feels pressure to constantly prove herself and tends to “go it alone” at times. Work is also her comfort zone. Emmet has a good memory and is tenacious and competitive, but gets uncomfortable around people going through a crisis. Both show growth as the novel progresses. Their chemistry was undeniable. The other characters had varying degrees of depth.

I was quickly drawn into the story and the main characters were likeable and relatable. However, there are a lot of characters and reading the prior books would be beneficial. Readers of the series will reconnect with and get updates on some of the characters from the previous novels. The author is a wonderful storyteller who kept me turning the pages with a great plot, gripping scenes, and formidable characters. The plot is twisty with a mystery that unfolds and culminates in a suspenseful and tense conclusion. The pacing is fast and I found myself continuously wondering which lies would be uncovered and the truths revealed.

Overall, this is an excellent mystery thriller and police procedural with a side of romance interspersed. The characters were engaging and the second half of the novel was filled with tension, suspense, and intense action. It has just the right balance between mystery, investigation, and romance. While I read this as a standalone novel, I believe this series is best read in order. I am looking forward to reading the others. Enthusiasts of mysteries and police procedurals with some romantic suspense will likely enjoy this novel and the series.

Liar’s Point by Laura Griffin
The Texas Murder Files series #5. Romantic suspense. Can be read as a stand-alone.
Detective Nicole Lawson has to cancel a date when she’s called to a crime scene. She’s not a fan of the autopsy procedures but she’s great at getting people to talk to her. Except for Detective Emmet Davis. He treats her as if she doesn’t know how to work an investigation or a competent officer. Danger mounts as another woman is found too late.

🎧 I listened to an audiobook narrated by Teri Clark Linden who does the full series to-date. Tension and worry come through clearly in the performance as well as other emotions. Nicole and Emmet have distinct voices as do a couple of the secondary characters. The performance is easy to follow as the murders are discovered and Nicole blows the other investigators out of the water. I listened to this at my regular preferred speed of 1.5.

Gripping and suspenseful.

I received a copy of this from NetGalley and publisher Dreamscape Media.

One thing I love about Griffin’s writing is that she is consistent. She structures her stories well. She never lets the reader down. Her stories are addictive, fresh, and add a bit of romantic tension to the mix.

If you have read other books in the series, you know that she writes strong female characters and brings it when developing the crimes and police procedurals. Griffin is a star and hidden gem of a writer.

This book is part of a series and you can read it as a stand-alone, but I think you would get more out of it if you read a book or two first.

Liar’s Point is full of twists and droplets of hints. The plot is detailed and unravels slowly, but just when you think you know where it’s going, something changes your direction again.

The main characters are embroiled in an undercurrent of care and romantic tension that tends to agitate you. I wanted them to get it going way sooner than what Griffin gave us. And that ending… ugh! Their crime-solving was on point and made for a heck of a story!

Once again, Griffin brings us a great story with diversions and twists, capped with a romantic undercurrent you cannot ignore. I love her talent for delivering unique and fresh stories!!

This was an excellent read!
Good pacing, keeps the reader's interest, and well written to where the story flows smoothly.
Hard to put down and on point for everything you could want, whether it's in the twists and suspense or in the well-researched details.
(I didn't read the previous books in the series, yet I was still able to enjoy this one. I'd recommend reading the others too though, in order to get maximum enjoyment and because I've heard they're very good! I know I'm planning on doing that very thing.)
I think I've found a new favorite author here and I highly recommend Laura Griffin for your Great read needs!

This is the fifth book in this series and centers around Nicole and Emmett in the small town of Long Beach. It can be read as a standalone in all actuality. These two have been circling around each other since the first book. We have always known that Nicole has a crush on Emmett while he has been playing the field. I was really interested to see how this one panned out, and I thought that Laura did a great job. The buildup was perfect. The focus of the book is the murder and other strange things happening in the small town with a side focus being Nicole and Emmett. I like how the book ended with them being together and progressing quickly due to how long they have known each other. I read somewhere that this is the last one but am hoping that either isn't true or that there will be a spinoff!

Nicole has been stood up AGAIN. On Valentine's Day no less. And then while she is processing what has happened she gets a call about a body that has been found in a car by the beach. Things don't make sense about the scene though. Everyone is reading it as a suicide, but Nicole feels that they are missing something. More clues slowly start to show up that reveal it was in fact a murder. Nicole and her team immediately zero in on Cassandra who found the body. Nicole knows she isn't getting the whole story from her. So she starts working everything from scratch. Mid investigation she gets run down by a truck and injured. And who comes to her rescue? Emmett. The same Emmett who she has decided to move on from because she doesn't think it will ever happen. But then IT DOES! And now nothing will ever be the same. I mean they work in a small town police department. It can't happen again. But as the investigation unravels further and the picture gets bigger Nicole realizes she can't live without Emmett.

Emmett doesn't know what to do. He has been harboring feelings for Nicole for a long time but has never figure out when to make a move because she is so competitive with him. And now she has a boyfriend and he has to act like he is ok with everything. To distract himself, he focuses on the current investigation they are working together. The one where he is the lead and there is not a lot to go on. The one where Nicole has now been hurt and he finds himself not being able to stay away. The one where he realizes he wants to figure this out with her and make it work. The one where things aren't as they seem and as they continue to investigate, the players get big on a level that is outside of their jurisdiction. Will they be able to get justice before it is too late?

I listened to this on audible and wanted to thank NetGalley and DreamScape for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed the narrator. I thought she did a good job with the voices. Emmett's was nice and scratchy for me LOL. I recommend this book and this series if you like a suspense/murder novel with a dash of romance on the side.

This is a well-written, entertaining, fast paced, steamy, romantic suspense novel. It has an intelligent, strong and capable female protagonist, an engaging male protagonist, a beautiful setting, murder, mystery, intrigue, sizzling chemistry, and a satisfying conclusion. This is the fifth entry in the Texas Murders series and can be read and enjoyed as a stand alone, but it is even better when it is read in order. I listened to the audio book, and the narrator, Ms. Teri Clark Linden, does an excellent job depicting the characters and their personalities. I have read every one of Ms. Griffin's outstanding novels, and she never disappoints her readers!

Teri Clark Linden, narrator and she does a very good job, although she portrays the characters and situations with a lot more angst than I would have liked. Nicole comes across as a prickly character. I enjoyed her as a supporting character in previous books, but I found her stubborn and difficult and even though Emmit was supportive she gave him a lot of crap. I don't like this approach to showing sexual tension between the characters.

Cassandra Miller is trying to keep a low profile as a yoga teacher in a little Texas beach town. While on her evening run, she comes across a car with the body of a friend dead inside.

Lost Beach, Texas police detective Nichole Lawson is sitting at a restaurant waiting for her date when she gets a call from the chief about a dead body. Figures. She and her date, Dave, have canceled more dates than they have actually had, a situation that Nicole is coming to realize is a pattern she wants no part of anymore.

Detective Emmet Davis is leading the investigation, which Nicole thinks should have gone to her. He is trying to rein in Nicole, but she is determined to follow her instinct that tells her the witness, Cassandra Miller, is hiding something. When another woman with ties to Cassandra dies, and Nicole is almost run down. Emmet is ready to believe her.

Another thing Emmet is having a tough time reigning in is his passion where Nichole is involved. Being on the phone with her as she is run down has awakened something inside him. Tomorrow isn't promised to any of them but having known her for over ten years, he is not sure how she feels about him.

My thanks to the Publisher and Author for providing a complimentary digital Advanced Audio Copy (AAC) of this novel via NetGalley. This is my fair, honest and personal review. All opinions are mine alone and were not biased in any way.

I listened to the audiobook for this one for about half before I decided I didn’t want to wait anymore and finished it using kindle. The narrator was doing a good job particularly with the chapters from Nicole’s perspective. This is book 5 of the Texas Murder files, but it works as a standalone. Overall I liked this story and found it to be a good mystery. I liked the mystery more than the romance, and not because I didn’t like the coupling, but my response to being frustrated about being treated different for being a woman in my career would not lead to kissing no matter the attraction. I thought the pacing of the relationship was weird in that way, but I liked the characters and felt they would be good together. Nicole is frustrated by her job and love life (or lack there of) as she’s called in for a dead body in what should have been date night. While the scene looks like suicide something feels off to Nicole which is a theme for the book. Her instincts are on point. The second half of the book was quite fast paced and I didn’t want to look away, but overall I think the book ran a little long and could have been edited down a bit.

As with Laura Griffin’s past stories in this series, Liar’s Point was an engrossing combination of crime procedure and romance, that I breezed right through!

A jogger discovers a woman dead in her car, which appears to be an overdose. However, it turns out the woman was murdered. Nicole and her partner Emmett, as well as all the Lost Beach police force come together to find the killer.

I’ve been eager to read Nicole’s story since Midnight Dunes and Deep Tide where she contributed significantly to nailing down the killer. Nicole and Emmett have been circling around each other with chemistry and attraction brewing between them, so I was pleased to finally see them paired.

I really enjoyed getting back to Lost Beach, Texas, as I’ve gotten to know the small, tight-knit group of detectives and their families. Nicole is a persistent detective with good instincts, and I was thrilled to see her recognized as such. Her determination, constantly following up with the witnesses, and pursuing the evidence is what ultimately solved this case.

The story is part of a series, but it’s not necessary to read the previous stories to enjoy this one, as each features a separate couple and mystery that’s wrapped up by the end.

I alternately read and listened to an audio copy of Liar’s Point narrated by Teri Clark Linden. I’ve enjoyed many stories narrated by her! She expertly performed both male and female characters, bringing Nicole and Emmett, as well as the other characters, to life!

A copy was kindly provided by Berkley and Dreamscape Media in exchange for an honest review.

Opinion Breakdown
The Good: The premise.

The Not-So-Good: The romance in general

The Bad: The romantic closure, or even lack of time with them as a couple.

Overall: This was alright. I think it was alright that I hadn't read the other books in the series, because I didn't necessarily feel lost. What I did feel was disappointed in the romance part of this "romantic suspense" book. I like these every once in a while, especially the serial killer types (so if anyone has a recommendation ~ please share!), but I need the good balance between the romance and suspense to have it work. This also had the whole "I've loved you secretly years before the story begins" type of dynamic, which absolutely isn't my favorite. I like to experience the development of feelings, and when they are already feeling strongly, I don't get that.

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Nicole and Emmett's story. They are small town police detectives that are always competing against each other. When a seemingly suicide ends up being a homicide, they are yet again working closely together to solve the case. When things aren't adding up and there is a threat that comes after Nicole, there is a shift in their dynamic. There is some suspense, some sexy times, and some mysteries solved...and they get a HFN ending.

Point Of View (POV): This alternated between focusing on Nicole, Emmett, and a side character, Cassandra, in 3rd person narrative.

Overall Pace of Story: Good. I never skimmed and I thought it flowed well.

Instalove: No, but they had feelings for each other already when this starts.

H (Hero) rating: 3 stars. Emmett. He was just alright.

h (heroine) rating: 3 stars. Nicole. She was just alright too.

Sadness level: Low, no tissues needed

Push/Pull: Yes, but mild

Heat level: Alright. They have some tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story.

Descriptive sex: Yes

OW (Other Woman)/OM (Other Man) drama: Yes, but mild

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: No

Separation: No

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This ends in an okay place but with what I would call a HFN ending but I would have liked more of them as an actual couple

Safety: This one should be Safe for most safety gang readers

The Texas Murder Files has been an easy series for me to feel captivated by and with every addition to this world I feel more immersed in the lives of the characters. Nicole as a main character has definitely been one of my favorites and I really enjoyed getting to learn more about her. She had an assuredness about her that made her character feel badass which was so fun to see on page. And the tension that was between her and Emmet made this already gripping tale all the more intriguing.

The mix of mystery and romance was done very well in my opinion and left me wanting more with every turn of the page. Emmet had a protectiveness that I found to be really hot especially when he knew the right moments to let Nicole handle herself. Overall, he and Nicole had a fun relationship that blended well between the detective work and it made this an enjoyable read.

DEEPLY satisfied with the outcome of the romance I have wanted since the first book in this series. Could I have maybe used a less easy ending? Yeah. But the mutual suffering over each other being injured and that HER accomplishments were really recognized pleased me much.

Laura Griffin is one of those hidden gems of the book world. I stumbled across her a few years ago when I signed up for a book tour; honestly, I didn’t expect much from the story. I figured it would be entertaining and a good fluff read. But wow, I was surprised. Since then, I have sought out her books and thoroughly enjoyed every single one.

I started Liar’s Point on Saturday evening and finished it by Monday morning—I would’ve finished by Sunday, but my Kindle needed to be charged, and I fell asleep waiting 🫠 Liar’s Point featured so many of the characters I’ve encountered in the series, and it did take me a minute to remind myself who was who and which story they were associated with, but then I was all set.

The story itself was addicting. I love the police procedural element that is added to Griffin’s books - it feels so natural and really adds to the story without it feeling over the top. Then there was the addition of the romance between two of the detectives, and I was sold! There’s nothing about the book that made me roll my eyes or think it was cheesy. It’s just an all-around entertaining read that kept me eagerly turning the pages until the very end.

💨 Quick read
✌🏼 Dual POV
📚 Book five in the series
😍 Mystery + romance
🚨 Police procedural

I highly recommend this series, but you would need to start it from the beginning, as I think you would miss out on a lot of the character-building.

I’ve really been enjoying Griffin’s Texas Murder Files series from the intriguing cases to the romances. Each book works as a standalone with its own case and romance.

When a body turns up near the lighthouse and is ruled a homicide, Detective Nicole Lawson and veteran detective Emmet Davis work the case. Nicole wants the lead, but the chief gives it to Emmet. Nicole has feelings for Emmet, but has kept them hidden. She also sees him as her biggest rival. I liked their banter and his protective nature, which Nicole finds annoying.

The case was a curious one, and Nicole’s instincts regarding witnesses and leads were spot on. A second murder and attempted murder amped up the suspense and brought feelings to light. It was a gripping murder mystery with a clever twist.

I liked Emmet and enjoyed seeing their relationship develop. Griffin does a wonderful job of balancing the case and romantic thread. Although, I think it fell more towards a murder mystery case, but it’s also what I like about her stories. I found myself equally invested in both outcomes.

Fans of murder-mysteries & police cases with a side of romance will enjoy taking Liar’s Point to the beach this summer. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer

Laura Griffin is back with another well-paced romantic suspense in Liar’s Point and the highly anticipated romance between detectives Nicole Lawson and Emmet Davis. The will-they-or-won’t-they is finally resolved as the two investigate what initially looks like a suicide but is ruled a homicide. During the course of the investigation, Nicole’s intuition tells her that another murder is related to the first and that both may be connected to a close-mouthed, mysterious yoga instructor who has recently come to the seaside town. While Nicole’s suspicions are ignored by her fellow detectives, this doesn’t stop her from continuing to pursue clues and even put herself in danger.

Nicole has always been one of my favorite characters in the series, hard-working, sometimes impetuous, keenly observant, and always striving to be recognized for her excellent work. In Liar’s Point she’s trying to capture the elusive dating life, having decided that her crush on Emmet would remain unrequited, but the coroner/doctor she’s seeing stands her up, indicating that he’s more of a workaholic than she is. When Nicole is injured during a hit-and-run, Emmet’s concern for her ushers their relationship into a new era.

Griffin is a reliable storyteller, especially adept at writing twisty mysteries and Liar’s Point is no different. It’s a very satisfying read with a good balance between the suspense and romance. The characters are layered and intriguing. The settings evocative.

While you could read Liar’s Point as a standalone, I would recommend reading the series because of the recurring characters and background. All of the books in the series have been well done and well worth adding to your TBR list if you’re a fan of romantic suspense.

Many thanks to the publisher and author for sending me a copy.

"Liar's Point" by Laura Griffin is a thrilling addition to the Texas Murder Files series, weaving a tale of murder, mystery, and simmering romance. Detective Nicole Lawson takes center stage as she navigates the complexities of a murder investigation in the picturesque Lost Beach, Texas. Griffin's expert storytelling draws readers into a web of lies, intrigue, and unexpected connections.
The chemistry between Nicole and her rival-turned-partner, Detective Emmet Davis, adds a layer of tension and passion to the narrative. As they delve into the deaths of two yoga instructors, the plot unfolds with gripping suspense, keeping me on the edge of my seat. Griffin's skillful blend of engaging characters and a well-crafted mystery makes "Liar's Point" a standout in romantic suspense.
I devoured this book in one sitting, captivated by the seamless integration of romance and suspense. The characters are compelling, and the storyline is both engaging and unpredictable.
Laura Griffin continues to deliver a winning combination of thrilling mysteries and sizzling romance, making "Liar's Point" a must-read for fans of the genre.

Very grateful to the publisher for my copy through NetGalley, opinions are my own.

Not sure about this one.
Friends/ partners to lovers.

h sees H at bars hooking up w OW throughout the years. She crushes on him and he crushes on her.
If he isn’t celibate I won’t be able to read this.
I don’t like it when they like each other but he hooks up w OW esp when she sees him taking girls home.
She has a very nonexistent love life.
And he is CONSTANTLY at the bars.

He has friend zoned he cause he thinks she has a crush on his brother….. really? cause she has showed zero interest in him in years so that’s no excuse to hookup w OW for years.

Also she got lead detective over him on a case and he was a real ass to her. I really do NO like Emmet so I’m hard pressed to read this book. Laura deserves better. At least she could have a love life instead of sitting by watching him from a far….. BS

So unless the author pulls celibacy out of his ass I won’t read this.

I've been into this series from the beginning and I've been hoping for Nicole's book.

I've liked Nicole from the first time she was on the page. She's smart, knows her worth, and speaks her mind. Emmet is protective disguised as crunchiness and I was thrilled to finally get his pov. These two have respect for each other, and while they aren't always the best at openness, they know what the other one is feeling.

Plot wise, it was good. I liked the story arc and all of the moving pieces kept me wondering. One of my favorite things is how at the end, the POVs switch around to give a full aspect of what is happening. It's maddening and fantastic at the same time.

Overall, this is a great addition to the series and with the set up at the ending, I'm wondering if it's now complete. I'll just be over here, hoping for more.

**Huge thanks to the publisher for providing the arc free of charge**

When this arc landed on my kindle I couldn’t wait to get stuck in. Griffin is fast becoming my favourite romantic-thriller writer.

It was great coming back to the characters I’d just read about in Flight. Nicole and Emmet’s story really started there, and I have a slight regret that I haven’t had the chance to read the two books in between yet, as it’s clear I missed a few things (but this can still be read as a standalone).

I literally hang on every word Laura Griffin writes, and while this is a romantic story, it is also a well constructed thriller. Griffin never sacrifices her writing or story for the sake of the romance and it’s one of the things I most love about her books.

The way Griffin writes, I really feel like I am inside the story. The characters feel very real me and I always have a strong connection to them. Liar’s point is no exception to that.

I rated this ever so slightly lower than Flight, that was simply because I preferred the slightly more mature couple of Joel and Miranda, and I always have a preference for romances that begin with strangers first meeting.

I have no criticisms. Laura Griffin is queen of romantic suspense.

Now I find myself overwhelmingly excited to pick my next Laura griffin read, but can’t choose - they all sound so good!

Suspenseful mystery with a dash of romance

You can count on Laura Griffin for a suspenseful mystery with a dash of romance. Liar's Point is the 5th book in the Texas Murder Files series, but works as a standalone. It's set in a small Texas border town that's experienced spikes in drug and homicide crimes as its population and tourism business have grown. The heroine, Nicole, is a sharp and intuitive detective who works doggedly to earn the respect of her male peers. She's partnered with Emmett, the man she's crushed on for years. As they investigate a murder at the beach, it's followed by a series of coincidental (?) deaths. Fast paced and suspenseful.

If you're a fan of Nora Robert's please pay attention because I've got an author that needs to be on your radar. I haven't read this previous books in this series, and I think it would definitely help, but I was still able to enjoy this one by itself.
The girl next door turned butt kicking detective with one tiny flaw-she's weirdly grossed out by her job-Nicole, and alpha male detective Emmet have the major hits for each other but their both super bad at communicating and are both emotionally unavailable. White they are investigating a suspected serial killer in a small town in Texas, they realize that they can't escape the feelings they have for each other and their jobs don't become their number one priority anymore, though they do end up working it out. The steam factor is high and the story is not super complicated while the setting is intriguing
If you're into friends/coworkers to lovers, especially where he falls first, you'll like this story.

Nicole is a detective in a small town. While out one night, she is called to a crime scene. When another crime is later committed, Nicole believes everything is connected.

Liar’s Point is the fifth book in The Texas Murder Files series. While this book is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone.

This book is told using multiple points of view. One of the viewpoints is Nicole. She wants more in her love life and work life. She has a competitive relationship with Emmett, another detective. He is another POV, and is working the case with Nicole.

Liar’s Point is a combination of mystery and romance. A fun and entertaining romantic suspense.

3.5/5 stars, rounding up

I can't quite put my finger on it, but I think I just wanted a little bit more from Nicole and Emmet's story. I definitely still liked it, but I think

Liar’s Point by Laura Griffin is the 5th book in her fantastic Texas Murder Files series; which was another exciting mystery thriller in this series. I am a huge fan of Laura Griffin, as she is one of the best at murder, mystery, thrillers, and romance suspense. Detective Nicole Lawson, our heroine, is not too happy these days, as her boyfriend, a medical examiner, is always on the job; and she is always second fiddle to Emmett Davis, her rival on cases. Her chief sends her to Lighthouse Point, where a body was discovered in a car, in their town of Lost Beach, Texas. Nicole interviews the woman who discovered the car, who also knows who the victim is. Emmett is given the lead on this case, with Nicole working with him.

At first, they suspect it is suicide, but the medical examiner finds a few clues, and the case is changed to homicide. Nicole is very smart, independent and has no problem speaking her thoughts. She respects Emmet, and he also respects her, but there is a layer of tension between them, as Nicole feels because she is a woman, she is never the lead. Both Nicole and Emmett know that they each have feelings for each other, but not really allowed on the force; though as the case escalates, Emmett is determined to protect Nicole from possible danger.

The plot changes when another yoga instructor is found dead. Nicole is convinced that the instructor who found the body is a harboring secret, with a different pattern that the police team doesn’t think anything into her theory. When Nicole is hit by a car, that seemed to be aiming at her, Emmett decides to watch over her, as well as help solve the crime together. In a short time, Nicole and Emmet succumb to their feelings, with great chemistry between them. I also loved Nicole, who was doing an excellent job of getting clues, as she learns more during her investigations. I also loved Emmett, who knew he was falling hard for Nicole, and was determined to protect her.

What follows is an exciting, intriguing, suspenseful thriller that kept me on the edge throughout, especially as we raced to the climax. The last half of the book was extremely tense, I could not put the book down.

Liar’s Point was another excellent mystery in this series, which to no surprise, was very well written by Laura Griffin. The last half of the book was very exciting, as Nicole while unable to move around, discovers clues that will lead to the truths revealed by the yoga instructor, and the real murderer.

Laura Griffin once again, gives us a fantastic exciting suspenseful mystery, with a great romantic couple and wonderful secondary characters. If you enjoy murder mysteries, police procedurals, lots of intense action, suspense, with a touch of romance, you should read this book. If you have never read Laura Griffin, it’s time to start now, as she is an amazing writer for romance suspense.

This one was a bit unique in the series, since the main characters went from knowing each other in school, to coworkers, to friends, to lovers, and I really enjoyed their journey!

Detective Nicole Lawson is so sick of all work and no play. She loves her job, and she's great at it, but it's not exactly conducive to starting a relationship. She had actually been trying this time, with the county medical examiner, but he's also a workaholic and it never seems to work out. Not to mention no one can seem to make her feel the same things she feels around her fellow detective.

Emmet Davis is also a detective with the Lost Beach PD, and their small little beach town has had an unfortunate uptick in crimes recently, along with their growing population. When a woman turns up dead in her car, on the beach, he and Nicole are assigned to figure out what happened. It's not an easy task, and no one seems to be telling the truth.

Nicole and Emmet are working hard trying to solve the case, and trying not to give in to their mutual attraction. There's a lot at stake, for Nicole especially, starting a relationship with a colleague in her position. They have both always wanted each other, but neither knows that the other feels the same. It isn't until Nicole is injured during the investigation (sickbed scene, y'all!!) that she's willing to make a move.

I really enjoyed the mystery this time, and had fun trying to put the pieces together. Nicole had a strong hunch from the beginning about one witness being the key, but she couldn't figure out why. The others were skeptical on her theories, but she was right!

I always love a hero who is willing to change everything to be with his love, and Emmet is that type of hero, so I adored him. Nicole was strong, and smart, and eminently capable, and she was a wonderful heroine. I really liked this one a lot! I'm looking forward to what's next, now that the final Breda brother is back in town!

I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher. This review is my personal opinion, voluntarily given.

The books in the Texas Murder Files series just keep getting better and better! This fifth book focuses on Detectives Nicole Lawson and Emmett Davis. The two make a formidable team when young women are murdered in the small town of Lost Beach, Texas. Nicole is a great investigator but she is struggling with trying to establish a personal life while also solving the escalating crime in her community. Emmett is a natural leader, a little rough around the edges and brusque at times, but he definitely is a swoonworthy hero and knows what he is doing when he is picked to lead the investigation into the death of a young woman found at Lighthouse Point. The story lead me on a merry chase with a host of possible suspects and a trail of red herrings as the investigation proceeded. The yoga instructor Cassandra is a fascinating character, one whom I knew right away was keeping secrets but her secrets were revealed slowly and made the story all the more absorbing. I enjoyed getting to know Emmett and Nicole better, and the characterizations were well-rounded and relatable, especially Nicole’s attempts to have some kind of love life. My favorite thing about the book was the fast pace of the plot that kicked off from the beginning and just never let go. This is a stellar police procedural, a mystery within a mystery and a romance that is beginning to simmer on a back burner and finally gets smoking hot by the end of the book. With so many genres, this is a book for crime procedural buffs, romantic suspense fans as well as those who like to try to solve the mystery along with the detectives. The surprise ending was stunning and an excellent conclusion to a well-crafted and captivating story! This book can be read and enjoyed as a standalone, but once you have read it, you will probably want to read the other books in the series, just to stay in Lost Beach longer.

so I've long held that Griffin doesn't know how to write a MFC. this book reinforced that. she has been building up to Nicole's book since book 2 in this series. she has had pov chapters in basically every single book in the series and it's sad that she was given this. Emmett was never great, and Griffin loves to write a MMC in previous books that just comes across as a shallow alcoholic, but she has done an okay job of writing their books (in this series, Tracers MMCs can go to hell). but yeah letting this book end with was just such a disappointment. why not include her in that decision? is that not what a couple does?

Liar’s Point is the latest action-packed romantic-suspense thriller in Laura Griffin’s The Texas Murder Files series.
Nail-biting suspense, heartwarming slow burn friends to lovers, and ruthless murders in the sleepy tourist town of Lost Beach Texas.
Nicole and Emmet’s story gripped me from the first page to the very last and I loved every minute of it.
