This is like the Empire Strikes Back episode where everything falls apart and all seems pretty much lost. It was an excellent volume. Navin and his story took center stage. It was a nice story arc. Someone does die in this one.

I love the artwork of this story and I love the story. It is so well told and the imagination of Kazu seems boundless. There is always something new and he wows you visually. I am wondering where the story is going. I really don't see an end and as much as I'm enjoying this, I think I am ready for a conclusion.

This is an excellent series for anyone. It's written for middle graders. I am very entertained.

SOOOO EXCITING! My son and I ADORED this 6th tome of the Amulet series and wait Tome 7 with impatience. Will the family be reunited? Will they get the Bad Elf Dude? Will the girl resist the evil side of the ring? OK, so there are two tropes here - the powerful ring (well, a stone in this case) and "the force" which can be for good or for evil. But damnit, in this series it is so well drawn and so well-written that I really don't mind and enjoy every page and every character!

If there's one thing you taught me, little brother, it's that you're never too late to turn things around.

Navin is attending flying classes with Aly when he notices strange clouds and he wants to investigate further. Emily along with Vigo and Trellis is invited by Max to help destroy the voice. Navin, Aly and two other students end up in the abandoned city of Lucien where they meet Riva who informs them that even though the city of Lucien was destroyed, some of them survived. But now they are being chased and attacked by some creatures known as shadows.

There's also a prophecy that mentions that the sun will rise again so they still have hope. Emily, Vigo, Trellis and Max uncover some more secrets. It's chaos everywhere.

I liked that there was more Navin in this book as up until now, he was basically sidelined as Emily's brother but still he didn't have a lot to do on his own, which was disappointing again. The story moves further in this but it was meandering all over the place and too many new characters were introduced that it didn't hold my attention as previous books have in this series. Art is amazing as always. This is my least favorite in the series.

This book sees new characters being introduced, while the wrap-up of a different one's arc. It's definitely implied that the real danger lies with the voice of the stones, in how it's manipulated all the stonekeepers for its own devices, rather than the elf king, the more obvious threat

One of the biggest things that I noticed with this volume was how much the art had improved from the first till now. Not that it wasn't good to begin with, but it has seriously gotten better.

Navin and Emily's stories are starting to divulge a little, while the mother never really directly impacted the plot. I wouldn't say that the characters have changed so much as grown into themselves, especially considering the roles that they play. (Then again, this series has been far more plot-driven rather than character-driven, so it really shouldn't come as much of a surprise.)

Overall, while this book didn't feel as fast-paced as the fourth or fifth ones, it certainly brings a lot to the table and sets up nicely for the next book.

As always, the world building and illustration was great.

But the story has picked up too many minor characters for me. Too much of this book was filled with extremely low-stakes action between characters that are hardly important. The plot was similarly scattered.

It's like a bad episode of Star Wars. The dialog seems like it was 50% recycled cliches.

"They've breached the gate!" - check
'You'll have to get past me first!" - check
"That's a distress signal!" - check
"What are you going to do?
Improvise." - check

I'm checked out of this series.

Again this was amazing!! You can really feel like end coming as there’s so much tension and action. I loved that we got to see more kd tne void and learn more about the voice, it was really interesting. I also felt that Gavin was a really prominent character in this one and I’m glad we got to see more of him. Sadly, I won’t be able to read the last till until July as I’m on my way to australia and couldn’t bring them with me. But I’ll finish the series one day!!

At some point, I need to go back and read these straight through. I always feel like I miss something when I start the new book and it takes me awhile to remember where the story left off. The story continues at a fast pace and the action continues. Looks like there will be a book #7 - yay.

Pretty good, liked all the action and plot progression in this. Also, the lack of Emily was good too.

Not sure what was going on with all the shadows/the voice/the secret cities/the void/memories/the jumping from one place to another, it was all kind of a mess, but still enjoyable enough.

Yet another amazing novel from the Amulet series. Zero complaints. Beautiful art, well-developed characters, a consistently driven story. Couldn’t put it down, very fun!

I really don't know what I think about this series anymore. After two years away it's hard to remember much about the series, but that's not entirely about the gap in time. The author seems to think that every installment needs to be about a whole new twist or and a new location and each book feels like an entirely new story. He's picked up and dropped so many plot lines, I just don't know what to feel about the series anymore. I thought I was reading a story about a couple of kids and their mom and grandfather's legacy and his robots and most of all, a mysterious amulet. And then it was about Trellis, and his brother, then it was about this and that, one thing after the other, I got excited about and cared about each thing, and it got dropped. The series is called Amulet and the amulet was barely even in this book. I care about Emily, Nevin, Trellis, their stories, their quest, but it's hard to see it sometimes, there's so much going on. It's feels like he wants it to be as complex and widely spread as a novel, with lots of supporting characters and multiple scenes and points of view, but it just doesn't work because a graphic novel doesn't have the time to get as in depth as a novel would, so everything just suffers.

The other question I have is about the timing. I know the author had some kind of heath issue a while back, I'm assuming that was why it took two years to get this issue released. But regardless, it's been eight years for six books to come out, so kids who were 8-10 when the first book was released are now aged out of reading the series. All of us adults are still enjoying them (many less critically than me), but how is this supposed to work for the people they're actually aimed at? I guess depending on how many he's actually planning on writing it could be fine for kids who start now. At this point I just feel like it would have been better to write a shorter, more focused series than what to me feels like has become a confusing, scattershot story.

I received the ARC from NetGalley.

I have always wanted to read this series but never got around to it. Then I saw Vol 6 on Netgalley and decided it was time. So I started Friday and read every spare moment I had. It is Sunday night and I have just finished Vol 6. I am blown away. There are elements that remind me of Avatar: The Last Airbender, Chronicles of Narnia, Howl's Moving Castle and other fantasy/scifi that I've read before but it is still a fun ride. And seeing as how the intended audience is grades 3-7, it is very appropriate. New characters are introduced in every book and the action just keeps building, as well as the suspense. Half of this ARC was in black and white but the pages that were finished and colored were beautiful. The 2 page spreads are pieces of art. I am anxiously waiting for Vol 7!

Well, as a graphic novel it is undoubtedly amazing because you can't find any flaw in the illustrations. They are beautiful as always.
But the story-line is not working for me anymore! It's like the same kinda adventurous tale again and again. Moreover, so many new characters are being introduced in every new volume, which is making everything really complex!
It's pretty sure that I'm not gonna read anymore book of this series!

The book was really cool, but I struggled with the fact that I have a hard time remembering all that happened before (and that is a lot!!) and also with the fact that there are so many plotlines, so many important decisions... but we just swoop right past them without going any deeper.

I find this book and the whole series to be a bit contradictory - going easy without explaining much (as for children), but having a quite complicated narrative (as for adults).

This is the 6th book in the series. It is the same sort of idea as the rest of the books. It isn't anything special but they are very quick.

This is probably a more 4.5/5 stars but I'm giving it 5 because of the art. I love the art in this story! It is amazing. The story and the plot isn't the most well written thing in world but overall I really enjoying this series!
