From New York Times bestselling author Stephanie Tyler, writing as SE Jakes.... Before Prophet Drews can have a future, he must first put his past to rest. Prophet Drews is a man on the edge, and he’s pulling Tom Boudreaux, his partner on the job and in real life, right over with him. When his old CO calls in a favor, Prophet asks Tom to join the off-the-grid rescue. But the mission raises all of Prophet’s old CIA assassins, the terrorist Sadiq, and most importantly, John — traitor, former teammate, and Prophet’s first love. To help bury those ghosts for good, Prophet and Tom gather the members of Prophet’s former SEAL team . . . and a spook named Cillian who’s been tailing Prophet for years. In the process, Prophet is forced to face his team’s shifting loyalties, ghosts who refuse to stay dead, and scariest of all, his own limitations. With everyone’s lives in danger, Prophet and Tom must unravel a tangled knot of secrets, including their own. Prophet must decide how much to reveal to Tom, while Tom must decide how far he’s willing to go to help Prophet lay his ghosts to rest. Word 63,800; page 272

This is the third book in this awesome series and just so you know, they can not be read as stand alones !! They need to be read in order, or you won't know what the hell is going on.

Let me start by saying that I loved every single character in this book...even the ones I hated (I am looking at you John and Cillian ;p). Well maybe I didn't really hate Cillian, but he did annoy the hell out of me in this one.

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor you are annoying gif

I still want to read his and Mal's story though !!!

Prophet (Lije 7e6c22cc4c29adb0f4a619d0806b71f1) and Tommy are getting closer and closer and Prophet finally reveals some secrets, even though with Tommy's Cajun Voodoo, they weren't really secrets 9f01372377900d9203bc4efe48eb1659

Besides some little misunderstandings, things are going really great between the two of them. Except for the big elephant in the room that is... John. They are about to find out that some things are not what they seemed and it will change EVERYTHING !!

https://www.google.com/search?biw=1517

I loved this book I really did...but you know what I don't love ?? Freaking cliffhangers !!!! That and waiting years to know how everything ends. Thankfully, after many re-reads, book 4 is finally out and I get to see if Prophet and Tommy will have the HEA they deserve so much ;)

Highly recommended !!!

*2.5 stars*

I'm just going to come out and say it.

It was very hard for me to finish this book.

Now remember, friends, I'm basing my rating mostly on personal enjoyment and this fell somewhere between "okay" and "like" for me. I can see why this book has lots of 5-star ratings and loyal fans, however me for me it wasn't a win. "Why, Heather, why?!?" I know you all are wailing. Well most of my rating boils down to one simple truth: This book confused the crap out of me. Still perplexed? I'll explain.

-A bajillion characters: There are at least 10 guys mentioned through the course of the book, guys that have important roles in the story, and I couldn't for the life of me keep everyone straight. The tangled web or who works for whom and who has slept with whom practically gave me a migraine. They all started fusing together into one giant blind/deaf/mute/gay/muscular/marine/navy/spy character. I call him Doc Malblucilliaproph.

-The time and space jumps: Sounds mildly sci-fi, no? Anyway, one minutes the guys are in a remote country and the next they are back in their apartment, lickety split. Time seems to have no meaning in this book. It could take place over the course of one day or ten weeks and I wouldn't be able to tell.

-The way all the accessory characters keep popping in: Mildly related to my first point, it was strange how one moment the Tom and Prophet would be alone and the next they are with 5 different people. This happened over and over again. People keep randomly appearing in the story and it felt so sudden each time.

-All the secret spy organizations: FBI, CIA, EE, Marines, Secret Ops... I give up. I can't remember who is from where and why...

-Prophet's disease: Okay, I'm a scientist of sorts and it drove me up the wall that I didn't get a name for Prophet's eye condition. I don't need a full explanation but what was given was really vague and I would think that Prophet would want to know more details. I did some research on my own given the information from the story (degenerative, x-linked due to the fact that all the males had it, variable phenotype) and I diagnosed Prophet with Choroideremia. Now I feel better.

-All of them being practically invincible: It started to feel a bit far fetched. I mean, super human strength, cunning, precision reaction times... I think Prophet is made of steel sometimes.

Now that I've aired all my grievances, what was good about the book? Lots of things, really. I love when Tom and Prophet get it on (holy hot sexy-times!) and when the plot has its more straightforward moments. I liked the start of the book and the emotional strides that Prophet and Tom took in this story. It had some very bright spots but my enjoyment was greatly lessoned by all of the things I've listed above.

I know this series has tons of fan-girls and I get it, I really do, but I'm starting to realize that this series is just not going my way. Things are feeling more and more convoluted and I'm a straightforward kind of girl. Everyone else, keep enjoying the yumminess that is Prophet and Tom because I think I'm closing the door on this series.

**5 Passionate and Intense Stars**

description
It’s not easy to express ones feelings and thoughts, after reading a Hell or High Water book…scratch that, it’s hard after any of S.E. Jakes books. The depth of characters, the build-up of the worlds and the work put into the plot…requires a skill and talent, far more enhanced then my mere attempts to review it. But…I’ll attempt to explain why I enjoyed this book, why I will always love Prophet and Tom , which grows with each book I read.

description

We've tagged along on their missions, witnessed their misfortunes and fought along their side, for a relationship that at times…seems impossible. And now in Daylight Again, Prophet and Tom share with us a side to their story, yet to be seen. More depth, more emotion and willingness to open their hearts and give all to the other.

description

Prophet Drews has lived through an unforgettable past…and still has the flashbacks to prove it. His purpose seemed to only revolve around finding his best friend and teammate- who’s supposedly dead and discover whether John truly betrayed him. But not all of Prophet’s attention is placed on John. His life holds more meaning now. His purpose, thoughts and existence, involve his lover and partner in crime, Tommy.

description

Holding back from Tommy...keeping his secrets guarded, seems harder to accomplish the longer they’re together. The depth of their feelings and attachment keeps growing. And lucky for us readers, we finally see the truth behind the Prophet Drews. His fears, doubts and even the love he holds in his heart for Tom. And his choice to find peace...starting with letting Tom in.

description

Along the way, we witness Tom’s hard work at crumbling the walls surrounding Prophet’s heart and his feared secrets. We experience their intense intimacy, the emotions they reveal, along with their doubts, all unraveled as they shatter any remaining barriers between them.

description

Trust is forged and Prophet works on involving Tom in his life and work. Even with his urge to always keep Tom safe and protected, Prophet attempts to work past that to include Tom on his mission to kill Sadiq and discover John’s whereabouts. They team up with others, some favored and some not so much...ones I’m sure you all love *cough* Cillian, *cough* Mal, and work on reaching the goals they've set out.

description

Plenty of surprises…action galore and some shockers you’ll miss out on if you don’t read this amazing book. S.E. Jakes will keep you hooked, desperate for more...and yes pretty horny all the way. So mates, make it your mission in life to read these books xx

THIS is why we read SE Jakes.

So many questions answered.
So many new revelations.
So much emotion, sex, vulnerability, depth and pain.
And still, so much remains unknown.

THE CHARACTERS

Prophet Drews -
Prophet put up a hell of a fight, but when he surrendered it was so completely, unmistakably beautiful.

Tommy Boudreaux -
Everything had suddenly gotten really complicated…and somehow better at the same time.

Lansing - CIA prick.

John Morse - Best friend, first love, SEAL teammate. And a dead man.

Cillian and Mal - OH man, I can’t, just can’t.

King and Ren and Hook Yup, they’re here and in fine form.

THE STORY

Intrigue x 10
Mystery wrapped in tension, action, danger.
Sexy, well…Tommy & Prophet.
Love. Yes. Love.
And Chapter One doesn’t require breathing.

The entirety of this story is just too big to condense here, but suffice it to say that this third book in the series picks up about four months past where Long Time Gone left off and at about the same time as Dirty Deeds begins.

“We’ve gotten through a lot of shit already, Tommy. A lot. Maybe more than we’re supposed to. Maybe we’ve reached our limit.”
“Still trying to protect me.”
“Always.”
“I’m going to chance it. Figure the universe already put us through hell. I think we’re meant to come out the other side together.”
Prophet rolled his eyes. “Romantic fucking voodoo Cajun shit.”
“That’s lovely. Anyway, what would we do with all our free time?”
“We could go run a goat farm,” Prophet suggested.

Things have been moving forward with Tommy and Prophet on the home front, but now they are called upon to help a buddy who has been kidnapped, stirring up old conflicts. There’s no question that they’ll take on this mission together, but they’ll also be joined by colleagues…and ghosts. Believe me, I haven’t even begun to scratch the surface of everything that this book contains.

THE WRITING

SE Jakes drives her story and her reader like an OTR trucker drives a semi; with control, power and a her sights set on getting the product there. She knows where she’s going and you can just sit back and enjoy the ride.
And that’s when he began fucking Prophet in earnest, saying his name like a cross between a chant and a prayer, and Prophet was damned sure no one had made it sound better.

There’s a reason this series has become so popular and it’s because of the storytelling. The books create discussion and you just want to tear ‘em down, figure ‘em out and discuss, discuss, discuss. I think I pity the poor reader out there who doesn’t have someone to hash this all out with.

OH and finally, to answer my lead up post to this review:
”Isn’t it enough that you threw the couch out the window?”
“You fucking love that shit,” Tom growled. “The jealousy turns you the hell on.”

See below, to find out what ^^^ that’s all about ;)

4.3 Stars - The very best kind of tough agent M/M

Jeez, gripping emotional, kinky hot steaming, tough tricky missions and full of adrenaline-fueled hard muscle guys. So much fun and cozy heart-thumping reading.

These books never makes me disappointed.
Fantastic delivery in each new book and Prophet & Tommy's intense (hot and sexy) love-drama just gets better and better. ~ Action-packed, man-loving, romantic suspense, and I love it.
Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

Daylight Again feels like a well developed third part in this Hell or High Water series about Prophet (Elijah) Drews and Tom (Tommy) Boudreaux. Both former agents/cops/marines.

My reviews:

***********************************************************

New York, U.S

Our main characters are since a couple of months living together in NY and at last dare to have some normal dreams about an 'ordinary' couple kind of life together. ~ They just have to first finish Prophet's (and his old SEAL friends) old and never ending "Sadiq / John hunt" thing. Which is the crime plot once again.

It felt like this book had most focus on the by now growing love between these characters. There were some thrilling suspense and action parts —they went to Djibouti in Africa— but mostly was this a romance novel.
‘Prophet had lost it a long goddamned time ago when it came to Tom, but ha'd be damned if he'd admit it. Out loud.
Again.
“Tommy...”
And then Tom murmured, “Lije,” in his ear, his voice raspy and desperate, and Prophet shuddered, suddenly as desperate as Tom sounded.’

They TALK and they tell each other old secrets. They are sweet and tender, they take care of each other. Awww!! ~ And of course they still often prefer to express feelings through physical action. — Nothing to sneeze at!! — Slowly, but piece by piece, we learn more and we get a insight into their tangled past lives.

I've said it before: This Hell or High Water series cannot but to be one of my M/M favorites. There is absolutely nothing to complain about. It's so damn good! I loved it all and I'm once again longing after the next part (a 50 page novella #3.5 - Not Fade Away until book #4 is here).

A couple of alpha males to admire and love; Tom and Prophet!

I LIKE - awesome reading once again

Still too much relationship angst and secrets at this point in the series. I wished they were more of a team working together instead of still needing to figure out their shit. But, that's what a lot of this was.

The body count was the best part of the book.

Plus, there was a disconnect somewhere along the line. I think I missed a half-book/short story which was about two side characters, but there shouldn't have been a big reveal about these characters in it. So, when the story starts with a major reveal that had already happened, I kept wondering if I missed it somehow.

I'm not the best at finding things.

Other than those problems, it was okay. They were chasing a bad guy from the first book and there was plenty of action. Still, I'm glad the next book is the last one because I'm ready to move on.

Hello and how are you?

If you're reading this review, you're obviously invested somewhat in the Hell or High Water series. You must be, because we're at good 'ole book number three, "Daylight Again". Now at this point in the series game, the major plots are afoot, hot actions are going down (as are mouths), key pieces are being set and we're closer to that glorious end, where we can finally learn what the hell is going on! Prophet, Tom, the John mystery, Prophet's diseases, Prophet's team and the romance in between all the modern day warrior antics.

Do I really need to do a rehash of the entire plot and cast of characters, so far? It's too long and we'd be here for hours. I suggest you start with "Free Falling" by SE Jakes and do not skip - follow the suggested reading order, if you're new to SE Jakes'  Hell or High Water world. I'm going to make this as spoiler free as can be.

Let's get some of the main complaints out of the way, shall we?

There are a lot of abbreviations and initials - There sure are. In fact, after awhile I started abbreviating words that I didn't need to because it felt like I was surrounded by code. Ah, the life of double agents can be PDAH or Pretty Damn Abbreviation Happy. I finally found out what a BDU was!! Success! SRALIL! (Or SheReadsALot is learning!)

There are a lot of characters to keep track of - There are. But I was able to follow along since there was enough reintroduction to jog my memory. Thankfully, this series ends at book #4 or I'd probably have to jot down notes. ;)

This series is similar to that other series - Meh...not really. Hell or High Water does have an end in sight. The last book will be released later in 2014 so thankfully no drawn out plot lines. Yes, there are spin offs but if you read these men and are as intrigued as I am, you could enjoy getting to experience them in other settings. Because Hell or High Water is all Prophet and Tommy.

I think this is the most perfect gif to sum up "Daylight Again"

This could be my favorite book of the series yet I am not rating it the highest. I'll get to why soon. What I reveled in from Daylight Again was the relationship level Prophet and Tommy are at. This is where I wanted to see these two men get. Don't worry, Prophet is still as snarky and Tom is just as crazy and possessive. But these men have grown. Their relationship has foundation and it's rock steady, bebe. These warriors have learned to share, to compromise and to love. And I thoroughly enjoyed their comfort of each other as separate entities and as a unit.

“You've got the fountain of youth hidden in your pants."
" What the fuck does that even mean?" Hook demanded, then held up a hand. "Never mind, I don't want to know."
"Means fucking keeps you young.”

Don't expect flowers and pretty pink prose either. It's just alpha men loving each other. And yes there's tons of sex (hot, heart pumping, body liquefying sex...sweet Cheesus that bedroom scene...I'm still drooling) But also crap tons of plot and mysteries being revealed in this novel. A good number of questions are answered especially about Prophet's past with John, his ex-lover teammate.

And we get to read more of Prophet's team in action. And Mal and Cillian of Dirty Deeds fame are back. (This is not their series so don't expect them to usurp Prophet and Tom's spots) I love Prophet from the moment he snarked his way in Free Falling. But Tommy is...delicious. And Mal...has secretly become my favorite. He's damaged and cray-cray and who he's compared to makes it even more sweeter. *claps with glee*

The main mystery is slowly coming to a head, at the right pace. I liken it to a game of chess. There's bullets flying, plane jumping, kick ass action but compared to the previous two books, it's a little tamer. But the information given makes the book more satisfying in a way. Now I don't want to prematurely call checkmate for this series...but I'm liking how it's progressed.

The ending...I-hmm...I had to reread the ending a few times, to be honest. It's a perfectly good ending. It's a great setup for the end of this series. But...there was something that left a smidge of a sour taste in my mouth. I need books #3.5 and 4 to see the entire picture. I can't put my finger on what gave me the most pause. Plus, I don't want to spoil it. But...really? He went through all that trouble to do that? Either this is the biggest mind fuck or the oddest plot device. I'm reserving my 5 hearts for how this whole thing ends. So it's a tentative 4.5 for now.

The story ends with an obvious cliffhanger that changes the game...with unexpected moves. but I have a feeling Tommy and Prophet will come out swinging. And will win...any way possible. ICWFTROTSBITLTGSF. DIWIIOA?

Or, I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE REST OF THIS SERIES BECAUSE I TOTALLY LOVE THESE GUYS SOMETHING FIERCE. DAMN IT WHY ISN'T IT OCTOBER ALREADY?

(I'm going to leave now before the abbreviations spread!)

Tommy and Prophet are awesome, as always.

description

But I didn't understand a thing! I don't really care but it's one of those movies I begin watching and I know from minute 2 that I will have to disconnect. Because I'm aware that every effort is futile. So I just try to follow the dialogues and wonder at the amazing shots. The story just doesn't make sense. Prophet thinks and he thinks about saying out loud that he is thinking about, which he actually hasn't said in his very own mind because there are only ellipsis and unfinished sentences. In the end it doesn't matter, as Tommy understands anyway and he gets it. But I don't. I feel stupid reading dialogues that are not real dialogues. I feel l'm in the middle of a tennis match wondering how Nadal won the play, I didn't see that ball coming!

And the time traveling... I'm tired of it. Suddenly we are in the States, now we are in Amsterdam. Not I feel like visiting the doctor. What the fuck happened there? There is such a lack of cohesion between all the events I'm not even going to try to link them all. Impossible.

The endless sex. IMO, ending and starting again non-stop several times sounds like sci-fi for me. And they are not young. Once I read the States spent $80 millions in Viagra (Pfizer) for the Army. I'm beginning to believe it. Because, seriously.

Prophet's potential blindness is not explained. What kind of disease is that one? If it's genetic it surely has a name (or maybe it's a syndrome). Why isn't it mentioned for the whole book? I classify that data in my shelf of "Important information I should know about the MC". Am I weird?

About Mal and Cillian relationship, as with the rest, it comes out of the blue. And I did read Dirty Deeds, so I have all the information I should have. In theory. As far as I know, Mal and Cillian have met twice or three times. Apparently that's enough for Mal to admit to Tommy that and they haven't even talked (no pun intended).

Good news is that I finally found out why that sense of reminiscence while reading this book. This is so similar to the Black Dagger Brotherhood! They are powerful, invincible and tortured males. Everything is a big drama, everything is a big fight against a physical opponent (and an abstract one). These feelings are heavy on my stomach but at the same time I can't help myself from rolling my eyes. That combination is an addictive mix, but that doesn't stop me from criticizing it.

To sum up, I liked the book a lot. I mentioned it before, Prophet and Tommy are a wonderful couple. I'm glad I finally heard THE WORDS. It was about time! And the mindfuck ending with is so FUBAR I'm at a loss of words

This was one of the books that I was anxious waiting for... It worth every minute of waiting!

Tommy and Prophet are one of my favorite couples! Their relationship it's stronger than ever... they want to protect each other, they want to have a normal living... and I loved their domestic life! They both like to dominate in bed, and they are both good at it! The sex scenes are fabulous as ever, but it wouldn't hurt if there were more!

This book has the perfect amount of mystery! There were some revealed but the most important one is not yet unraveled and I am really curious about John...

I can't wait for the next one!

***5 Stars***

"Not always going to be smooth sailing. Gotta tell you shit you don't want to hear and vice versa. Or else we've got nothing. And I know we don't have nothing."

"We have a hell of a lot, Tommy."

While book 2, Long Time Gone, focused on Tom's past, here we dig deeper into Prophet's history.

Prophet and Tom find themselves on more solid ground after returning from Louisiana, having dealt with most of Tom's demons. They've come to an understanding about their careers, especially Tom's position at EE, and accepting of what each man truly needs. And both of those things are thrown right at you in the first chapter....I do like to start my books off with a bang!

This was part recoupling, part reassurance that time apart didn't lessen anything between them. Tom reasserting that he wasn't going anywhere...and Prophet accepting it.

Prophet put up a hell of a fight, but when he surrendered it was so completely, unmistakably beautiful. Actions spoke louder than anything Prophet could ever say.

But the clock doesn't stop ticking. Danger is always lurking. And Prophet still has skeletons in his closet that he's been too afraid to show Tom. Seeing this vulnerable side of Prophet was both heartwarming and heartbreaking.

...unpacking Tom had been more for Tom than for him, because in Prophet's eyes, the man had already moved in everywhere: Prophet's place. His room. His heart.

He's been holding so much in, shouldering so much insecurity and pain and fear and trying so hard to handle everything on his own. Things are coming to a head, trouble is brewing and Prophet's flashbacks and nightmares are getting worse.

Prophet needs Tom now more than ever and I loved seeing him open up to Tom and truly allow Tom to take care of him. To realize that it's not a weakness needing someone...especially how much he needs Tom.

"You're going to stay up and watch over me while I sleep?

"Yeah, I am. Is that a problem?"

"It fucking should be. It fucking should be. But it's not."

So many intricate pieces of Prophet's past start fitting together. Revelations and secrets revealed in the first book start to make sense and become part of the bigger picture. There's a lot of military, mercenary and spy stuff going on in this book and every single bit of it kept me on the edge of my seat.

Every single person in Prophet's life is somehow interconnected to his past. A past that is no longer in the rearview mirror, but quickly pulling up alongside him. As with the previous books, many questions are answered here....however, there's so much still left unanswered. And you just know the showdown in the final installment is going to be epic!

SE Jakes has created such an intriguing and intricate plot with this series that your mind is working nonstop to try and piece everything together. No one has all the answers, so you feel like you're working alongside Prophet and Tom in trying to figure everything out.

But don't you worry...it's not all guns, explosions, secret code and feelings. OH NO!! You get scortching hot sex (and I mean EN FUEGO!!) and plenty of snarky, sarcastic banter and comedy. SE Jakes can take a heavy scene filled with so much vulnerability, fear, uncertainty and trepidation and leave you chuckling with a huge smile on your face at the end.

"Talk later." Prophet kissed the side of his neck. "Fuck, then sleep, then fuck again, then pack."

"Good itinerary."

I can't wait to see how the final book pulls everything together. Some of the conspiracy theories that I've had since the beginning have either been confirmed or denied by now, but there's so much left to find out. And Prophet's biggest challenge is waiting for him. Thankfully, he'll have Tommy by his side to help him conquer it once and for all.

"What if I'd never found you, Proph? Where the fuck would I be?"

"But I'm here, Tom. You did."

"We both came so damned close to not being here." Prophet couldn't deny the truth in that. "No matter what, I'd never regret this."

"Me neither, Tommy."

★★★★★ 5 Look-at-all-the-Feelz Stars ★★★★★

I'm sure I will not say what already has not been said about this book and pretty much will corroborate and regurgitate what everyone else who loved this book has said.
.

And that's because they were all right! This book was so different than the first two because it focused more on the relationship between Prophet and Tom and them expressing their feelings and working out their issues than everything else that is going on. Sure, there were still a lot of outside factors that they had to deal with, like John hanging over their heads and terrorists coming after them (you know...the usual), but the main focal point was Proph and Tommy's relationship. Which for me was, of course, a total WIN!
.

It was so amazing seeing how far our boys have come and seeing them admit their feelings and realizing that they need each other, that all that matters is them two.
"Don't fuck with me, King," Tom hissed. "I'm in this. I'm more invested than you'll ever know. I get what I'm walking into. And I'm willing to keep walking. But I'm done justifying my existence."
"What if I'd never found you, Proph? Where the fuck would I be?"
"But I'm here, Tom. You did."
"We both came so damned close to not being here...No matter what, I'd never regret this."
"Me neither, Tommy."

.

There was something so satisfying about them reaffirming their need for one another and letting the other know that neither is going anywhere, no matter what, when we really did not get that in the first two books because so many other people and events were getting in the way of these two.
"...I forced myself to deal with it. To use my other senses. Because I knew, one day, that'd be all I have."
...Tom backed up to look at him, and Prophet didn't let go of his wrist. "I know you accept this, Tom. For now. But there's going to come a time--"
"Shut the fuck up."
"Now that I want to talk, I can't?"
"That's right. Because you're wrong."
"We'll get there, Proph. Not always going to be smooth sailing. Gotta tell you shit you don't want to hear and vice versa. Or else we've got nothing. And I know we don't have nothing."
"We have a hell of a lot, Tommy."
"And we'll have more when this is over."
Our boys still have so many obstacles in their path and so much that will get thrown at them (since, you know, that's how S.E. rolls...), but you know everything will work out in the end because they have each other, and they'll "...come out the other side together." All I can say is that I am enjoying the ride and Proph and Tommy's journey and will definitely be together with them on the other side.

Contains spoilers pertaining to the first two books.

Three, barely there (and I'm being generous here), stars.

Its taken three books, but we finally get somewhere with the plot involving Prophet's old friend/lover/possible traitor – John. And to be quite honest, I really could care less at this point. Because it was never the (confusing) plot that gripped me about the series. It was always the interaction between Prophet and Tom.

The first book established their relationship. The second book allowed us to glimpse into Tom's past. The third book didn't really do much except for shedding light on some of Prophet's issues, a few relationship developments and progressing the plot.

In terms of the plot and mission, I felt it was very lacking. S.E. Jakes has this tendency of just writing things to conveniently progress the story or mission. They need a transmitter to keep track of a certain someone? Well, look here! There just so happens to be this super awesome transmitter (vouched for by one of the characters, who has used it for FIVE years), that automatically shuts off when a person is being scanned to help evade detection (but won't shut off when being scanned by the right people); that ALSO leaves the impression of scarred tissue where it is implanted so not to reveal itself.

How convenient.

There are, rather, several situations that just happened, yet should have been far from plausible given the circumstances.

And I wished there was more explanation into Prophet's eye condition. I don't need a whole science journal on the condition, but the unrealistic transmission along the genetic line with no pathological explanation for what is actually happening makes it feel just way too over-the-top and unbelievable.

And to be honest, I'm getting tired of the invincible Prophet. Now add his team of old SEAL buddies that all happen to be uber alpha-men that (through the author's writing) makes it feel like they can each take over a third-world country blind folded. There's absolutely no suspense in this book, as the author has made these characters unrealistically inhumane and indestructible thus far.

The story, around 65-80% of the way in, felt like it derailed. I was trying to figure out what happened to the plot, and what the significance of the things happening were. Unfortunately, I never really figured it out.

But it wasn't all bad. The little bit of development between Prophet and Tom were still nice to read. As usual, the erotic scenes were well written and at least things were fast paced (when the book stayed on track, anyways).

Anyways, this was my least favorite entry into the series. I'm hoping the next one will do better.

Hell or High Water Series.

If you know me, you have to know that I grumble grumble grumble about in-complete series. I have ZERO patience waiting for books. ZERO. I get really angry and become this person that you don’t want to be around. Sounds bad? Well trust me it is.

Hell or High Water Series.

I’m like a moth to a flame with this one. I could give 2 shoots about SE always leaving me at the edge of a cliff. Because you know what? SHE ALWAYS leaves me at the edge of a cliff dammit! And I love it. SE’s High Water and Dirty Deeds interwoven magic are the only series where I will willingly jump off that cliff. And man oh man do I enjoy the ride!

Its Friday afternoon, I have no kids! One’s at work and the other is gone for the night out of town. It’s just me and the hubz. Date night. I hear the chime to Slitsreads email. I look. I gasp. I jump around. I dance. I scream. I express my undying love to Shawnie and Riptide. I HAVE PROPHET.

Needless to say I left my husband to the wind.

I have Prophet.

Book 3.

Best book out of the whole damn bunch so far and that is saying A LOT.

Secrets are revealed. We got violence. We got some smoking freaking sex. We got angst.

The 1st 5% of the book I didn’t know if I should go try to scratch the itch or cry.

My poor poor Proph. He broke my heart.

SE gave us such a good mix. Between the sex and all the drama going down. 50/50. No more no less. It was utter perfection.

The story is fast paced. Really fast paced. Something happens and you try to start to reel from it and then BAM something else is going down. In between all of this we got the sex.

Mother.Of.All.That.Is.Holy

description

The sex will leave you panting. And visualizing. And wanting.

But above all. The story has depth. Way more depth than the 1st two books. Years and years of mind fuckery about to be exposed. Characters that we heard about in book 1 come back in book 3 with a vengeance, with revenge, bad characters. Characters that you want to kill. Maim. Slay. If you’ve read book 3 you know exactly who I am talking about.

And the cast of characters that we love are back.

And you can see where Dirty Deeds is interwoven with Hell or High Water.

Mal

Prophet

The only 2 I love.

I want them both.

In a sandwich.

With me.

I’m still jealous of Tommy. I know its irrational. But so what. They are my fictional loves. MINE.

So. Now….

I wait. Till August. For more.

On the cliff. That I crawled back up after I jumped off.

All hail the Queen of Cliffs. Ms SE Jakes.

5++ stars.

**** 4 bracelet stars ****

Another solid book in the Hell or High Water series. Tom and Prophet are as great as ever, maybe better. Complex, fucked up and so perfect for each other.

----------------
"I don't know whether to punch you or kiss you."
"A combination of both usually the best," Prophet advised.
----------------

And Tom's nick name for Prophet. *melts*

----------------
No one had ever shortened it like that, but back in New Orleans, Tom had taken it and made it his own, using it every time they fucked. Like he was proving he knew Prophet, reminding Prophet that he'd let Tom in and there was no backing out now.
----------------

The main plot that started in #1 Catch a Ghost thickens. Still intricate and still interesting. I really want to read #4, but it's not out yet. *pouts*
I want more of Prophet and Tom and the team.

----------------
"I love you. Who the fuck else could compete?"
Prophet pulled back for a second. Repeated, "Who the fuck could compete?" with his hand on Tom's heart.
----------------

5 stars!
OMG!!! I loved it! Tommy and Prophet are just so hot and this one was more emotional and a little harder and I got frustrated with them and their inability to do what I wanted them to do, but it all worked out and that ending! Fuck! I can honestly say I had that thought a time or two but was still shocked.
Oh and Mal...Gah! when is the next one coming out? I need it now!

Prophet and Tommy have come so far since their NOLA 'adventure'. They're living together and Tommy is still working for EE, but he goes to help Prophet rescue a friend from a hostage situation. Tommy also is determined to help Prophet deal with the John situation.

There are so many things that could have gone wrong with Prophet's and Tommy's relationship in this book. Prophet has seen an increase in his PTSD episodes and, at times, seems to be hanging on by a thread. Sometimes I wondered if John weren't really there with the express purpose of making Prophet question his sanity. Also, Lansing tries his damndest to instill distrust into Tom where Prophet is concerned. I am also not convinced that Lansing isn't working with John or is somehow involved in John's orders. Frankly, I would not be at all surprised to find out that Lansing has been using John, under the pretense of undercover work and all the while playing Prophet and the rest of his team. Lansing is evil. But, since this series still has a novella and a novel (yay) to go, it'll be a little while before we find out.

SE Jakes is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. Her characters and stories are so vivid and there's lots of depth. And they're not simple. There's a lot to keep up with, but I love that. I already know that when the last novel gets releases, I am going to re-read the first 3 1/2 so I can reimmerse myself in this universe. This series is just so good! I don't want to leave it for the next several months. I can already feel the withdrawal symptoms.

Fully Inked Review on Prism Book Alliance

There is an unrelenting undercurrent of tension that slides into this book on page one and remains there through to the very last. Despite relief valves in the ways of planning sessions and conversations and sex, this tension is never fully extinguished, impacting everything.

Tommy ‘n Proph, Proph ‘n Tommy. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: this is epic love story territory here, with two guys who find words difficult, except in quiet moments when their hearts talk before their heads get a chance to catch up and put the kibosh on it all, and whose actions speak like full volume sets of encyclopedias. They are as hot as ever, hot in whatever they do to and for each other. They are dug in deep. Entangled. Melded. They share a heartbeat that pumps love and protection and fear and secrets and truth all through the both them. Just like they can’t when it comes to each other, I can’t get enough of them.

We’re introduced to new characters and they’re all deftly utilized, both for the story and in further displaying the increasing strength of the relationship between Prophet and Tom. The same can definitely be said for many characters we already know, some not having made an appearance since Catch a Ghost. This shit is tight, YO. Tight .

Tommy and Proph have reached a level of displayed emotion, intimacy, that I haven’t seen until now. In those moments when each of them is making a split decision whether to hold back or to reach out and comfort, they’re often choosing the more difficult, honest and soul satisfying path. They both share and acknowledge each other’s vulnerabilities, their hearts leading the way. It’s something neither of them ever expected. Not just with each other but with anyone, ever. When I think back on where they started in CAG, and see and feel and hear them now, it echoes an entire universe away from the here and now… and their future.

That palpable feeling of a giant coil, pressed down before everything is torrentially unleashed, is still there and humming at the halfway point. It covers every word, every decision in a film of intensity that just can’t be scratched off. It’s itchy. Tight. Waiting.

Tommy and Mal, forced by the actions of another years ago, form a tentative but undeniable understanding of one another, if not an actual, honest to goodness connection. This is one of a number of “wishes” that come true in this book. Each one is granted organically and they work within the story. The gem of it is that these same wishes spawn a new spate of desires, and we will have to hope and trust that they will be fulfilled in a later book. So many secrets shared. Dreams verbalized. Wounds inflicted. Heartache is healed.

This is, in my opinion, the most mature, cohesive and well-plotted book to date by this author. Her usual style is there, improved. She continues to surprise me with the unapologetic honesty her characters exhibit. And fair warning: whether you’ve read Catch a Ghost and Long Time Gone, or your new to the series (and should start with those), you are in prime alpha male territory here, with all of them living in a world seen through the prism of hyper-realism. For me, that equates to delicious, stormy, difficult and completely satisfying stories.

I don’t normally speak on the ending of a story, I don’t want to skew anyone’s expectations or experience. However, this one deserves a note: I was not expecting this ending, yet it completely fits the tone of this entire story. The journey Proph and Tom have been on in this book, the place they now find themselves in – thanks in part to their own hard work on their relationship – and the level of emotional intimacy are all reflected in the last scene of this book. It left me gutted, hopeful, confident and made their obvious love for one another appear a worthy adversary for the incredibly difficult things they have yet to directly face.

I loved this book. I love Tommy ‘n Proph. I love their love. It’s as simple as that.

Definitely my favorite in the series to date. I'm going to list the reasons why so there will FOR SURE be SPOILERS in this review. Read at your own risk :)

I absolutely love Tommy and Prophet together. You could truly see their connection growing in this book and I loved every minute of it. I especially loved it when one of them would open up to the other and share something that made them vulnerable. It showed that the trust is there and they care enough to *want* the other to know more about them.

Prophet's struggle with his sight is definitely causing some angst. I'm sure there is more to come on that as he doesn't want to be a burden to Tom. Although Tom has basically told him to F*** off because he is going to stay with him no matter what. Thankfully neither one of them is stubborn (snort). As Prophet's battle progresses it will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Prophet's team is starting to accept Tommy more and more since he is proving himself. Totally enjoyed the parts with Mal and Tommy together. I really like Mal and thought it was awesome that he shared what was happening with him and Cillian (I know, I know....he pretty much had to since Tommy saw them in the club...but whatever). I'm very excited for the Mall and Cillian show to continue in future books. I've always liked Cillian.

In a nutshell, I could read about Tommy and Prophet for days on end. I will be here, tapping my foot, waiting for the next book....somewhat patiently :)

Oh, and one last thing, I think it's amazingly sexy when Tommy calls Proph by his real name. So hot!

Daylight Again is book 3 in the Hell or High Water series and once again, LOVED it! This story picks up a few months after book 2, so yes..you need to read the series and in order, or you will be lost. You may still get a little lost in this book as there is a LOT going on in it, so read slowly and don't try to speed read this book. You will come out the other side confused as all hell.

Since I am reviewing this book almost 3 years after it was released, I don't think there is much I can say about it, that hasn't been said. So let me tell you how I felt while reading this story.

The beginning "Alright, more Prophet & Tommy, everything else in the world can wait" A few pages in "What? Is this really happening? Wait...did he really just do that?" I kept going wondering what was next, my heart was racing, my attention was totally captured - dinner and the family, they had to wait. --- Then add in the hot as hell sex between these two, the snarky banter, the emotional vulnerability they both showed each other as they FINALLY put it all on the table, I was mush. THEN just when I thought nothing else could possibly happen, our author would shock me to hell with a revelation. Repeat these reactions pretty much throughout the entire book...I never did cook dinner, thankfully I have a husband who understands and knows how to cook!

I leave you with these words of wisdom "Until you really knew what someone was like in bed, you didn’t really know them at all." #truth and a high recommendation for this book and this series. 5 Stars!

It’s been years since the last time I read a book in this series…so long, in fact, I couldn’t remember why I stopped. I went back and read my old reviews for the first two installments. I talked about how they reminded me of the Cut and Run series, and that I liked them. I’d forgotten about the Mal and Cillian spinoff that disappointed me so much.

Anyway, what I got here—after jumping back in—was something of a mixed bag. Some things are done very, very well. Other things, distanced me from the romance and the bigger picture story.

The book starts strong out of the gate with a super-hot sex scenes between our heroes. And damn, SE Jakes can write some phenomenal banging. The sex between Prophet and Tommy is guaranteed to be frequent, varied, and off the chain. So put that in the win column.

Prophet is struggling hard with flashbacks/PTSD and the secrets he is withholding from his lover about his ex, John, and his deteriorating eyesight. The thing is, Prophet has never been able to really let anyone in, so I understand why this is all so hard for him. But he wants to be honest, and gets there, incrementally.

The relationship between the two heroes is complicated. It feels like it leans heavily on their sexual connection, but there is real love there, and we’re finally getting to a place where they can admit this to themselves and each other. All of that is great.

Where I struggled, though, is with the huge cast of characters and extremely complicated backstory. Remember, I did read the other books and the spinoff, but other than Mal, Cillian, and John, I couldn’t keep all the other characters straight—and I, for sure, couldn’t remember what I was and wasn’t supposed to know or remember about how we got to this place. It was too much… too many people… too much military stuff (like WTH is a specialist again?)… and too many moving parts.

Now, savvier readers than me are clearly out there. This book is beloved by so many. So, for sure, maybe the issues are mine. Maybe I just should’ve bit the bullet and reread the previous books before jumping back in. YMMV.

But, I will for sure, finish the series to see how it all plays out with John, Tommy, and Prophet. I’m curious to see what their happy ever after will look like.

I'm still having problem connecting with the characters. Me not connection, makes me feel like I'm on the outside looking in and it makes it hard to enjoy/like the characters. There's so much information missing, that makes this book feel...not whole. Like the pieces doesn't fit when we don't have all the information that S.E. Jakes probably has given us in her other books. But that information about that wasn't given to us without us having to stalk her profiles. As far as the story goes, it just goes. There's nothing special about it, expect all the similarities to Cut & Run series. Why I had continued with this series, is a question beyond me.
“I realize you're planning on fighting all the dragons single-handedly-"
"I'm going to protect you from John, dammit. Show him that he can't fucking mess with you. This is about territory."
Tom narrowed his eyes. "Are you going to piss a circle around me too?"
"If that's what it takes.”

I did not think any couple could compete with Ty and Zane but that was until Tommy and Prophet came along. I love how strong a couple they are, that they will do anything for each other, even lay down their lives if they have to. They have complete trust in each other and there is never any doubt that they are in this relationship for the long haul. I have enjoyed all the books but this one was outstanding right from the word go and it just got better and better right until the last page.

Prophet's always been hesitant to let Tommy in on all of his secrets but now they are all finally out there Tommy takes everything in his stride, even the issue with Prophet's eyes, he just accepts it and moves on.

I am so excited about the next book and I am still holding out hope that

Thanks to Steph for reading/debating this one with me!
