Third re-read: 29.08.2020
I seriously don't like Mischa. Hell I stopped the re-read the second she appeared because I can't stand her. I tried again weeks - or was it months - later and I managed to skim her parts. I hate how Maximus is taking a liking to her though. I really do. This is actually one of the few books that I'd prefer a reverse haram or something. I love Braxton, and I love him with Jessa, but I also love Maximus with Jessa. I seriously wouldn't mind a relationship where Jessa is with both. I definitely don't love Maximus with Mischa. I hate her and I wish her gone from this series. That said, the re-read was still good. The story is interesting - though for me, Mischa ruins this re-read simply because I know how she'll be in the next books. Jessa and the Compasses are great. And this book would've been almost perfect if it wasn't for Mischa. I skimmed some part as I'm sick and couldn't focus too deeply. I don't regret the re-read.

“Okay, okay. Apparently Max has spent much of our childhood lamenting the fact that I’m an annoying girl.”
Braxton stepped in the front door, his dark hair damp, stylishly tousled. “Don’t let them fool you. Max loved you from the first second you came into our lives. Twenty years.”
Maximus eyed his brother. “I’m not the only one, bro.”
Their intense exchange continued for a few long beats. I didn’t even want to know what the hell that was all about.

Second re-read: 10.03.2017
MIGHT contain spoilers. Jessa Lebron (22), Braxton and the rest of the Compasses (22) are awesome. I love them. Though I like this book a bit less the third time reading it, I still love it. Probably because of Braxton. He's amazing. I'm still crushed that my naughty dreams of Braxton, Maximus and Jessa together will never happen. Even now, now that I know what will happen in the future; I still wish for it.
“Dammit, it’s not fair,” I growled .
“Your dragon has them all cowering like rabbits.” One of the weaker shifter animals. “Why is it that no one shows my wolf her due respect?”
He laughed . “It might be a dog eat dog world, but ... a dragon eats everyone.”

Still absolutely amazing! I cannot wait for book two, and I still wish and pray that Jessa ends up with both Braxton and Maximus!!

First read review:
Holy shit, let's just say I was caught on surprise by this book! It was amazing, and it was just what I needed at the time. Jaymin Eve is definitely someone we should look out for in the future! Man, that woman can write! Dragon Marked is probably one of my favorite books in 2015 and I'm certain I'm going to re-read this sometime in the future. I cannot wait for book #2!!

The book begins with Jessa Lebron, who is a twenty-two year old alpha werewolf shifter who falls asleep at school. You'd think the book would be boring in the beginning, where all the introduction will be and all that, but noooooo, 'Dragon Marked' introduces things while things are happening so you don't get overloaded with information, (smart move, Jaymin!) and action pretty much happen in the first chapter!
My head hit the desk with a loud clunk. I jerked upright, blinking rapidly. What the hell had just happened?
“I’m sorry, Miss Lebron, am I boring you?” Tall, dark, and deadly was my teacher as he loomed over my desk.
Shit, I’d fallen asleep in class again.

And then after almost a fight with her vampire teacher, with the Compasses; Braxton (dragon shifter), Maximus (vampire), Jacob (fey) and Tyson (wizard) at her back, there's a Council meeting where Jessa's life chances forever. Like I said, this book NEVER gets boring! And this continues through out the book...
“We’re the future leaders of the American Supernatural Council.” His tone was guttural. “This is the last time I will say this. Stop lying to us – and before more bullshit falls from your lips, omitting information is the same damned thing.”

Now to the characters which I LOVED! There were not romance in this book, though there were some hints that there might be in the future. Which I am completely excited about!!! Though, Jaymin Eve is hinting that Jesse might have a soulmate within the Compass' and I know everyone is pretty much guessing it's Braxton, however considering . Oh god, there I said it :O Holy shit!! I'm CRAZY! :P
She was sneering so prominently I couldn’t help but laugh loudly. “I know you’re confused, Krass, considering you weigh about the same as an eight year old with the curves to match, but I have hips and boobs.” I tapped my chin. “Who knows, it might happen for you one day too.”

Jessa is.. AWESOME! She is simply put a great role-model and I wouldn't mind looking up at her at all! She is strong, independent woman who don't care what people think about her. Jessa's a fighter, a warrior and she would rather stay and die with her friends/family than run and hide. And that itself says how she is as a person. She is bloody fantastic! And let's not forget that Jessa's funny as hell. Snarky and sassy which made her sexy and confident. I love her :)!

Now the Compasses... They are difficult to talk about because I LOOOOOVVVEEE them! More perfect, overprotective, beautiful, powerful, dangerous bestfriends is IMPOSSIBLE to find! I promise you that. I can talk about them all they, however this review won't let me do that .. lol
“What do you want to do now?” he asked. “If you want to run, hide, or fight. We have your back.”
The other Compasses nodded. My heart filled and overflowed in the form of a few tears. Which thankfully I got under control immediately. Jonathon was wrong. I’d never believe my boys would hunt me one day, dragon marked or not. Never.

Braxton... My favorite of them.. Though Maximus came a close second. Braxton was THE alpha male. Him being a rare dragon shifter makes him a damn powerful shifter and he is soo damn (yes I say damn a lot) dominant. Braxton is what you can call sexy as hell and beautiful at the same time. I want him and I need to stop talking while I can...
“You were protecting me?” My voice was low. Emotions started bubbling up inside of me, overwhelming emotions.
“Always,” he said.

I kinda felt like Maximus was closed off, though I love him! He was closed to Braxton, and those two are what outsider would call broody and dark guys...just my type ;P Jacob, and Tyson are damn cute! They are so funny and lovable. I just wanna hug them. Though, it's just a mask because they deadly and damn dangerous, just like their brothers. They just smile more :)
My vampire and dragon shifter sprawled out their large bodies on either side of me, and with a sigh I slithered down under the sheets and closed my eyes. Trust me when I tell you, nothing makes a girl feel safer than a Compass on either side of her. I challenged any scary dream to try to get me now.

Jessa and Braxton... DAMN!!!! Let's just say that I was sexually frustrated after this book. I won't say more.. Okay I will. These two are the CUTEST thing EVER and they were ONLY bestfriends! Can you believe it?! I just wanted to go through the book and force them to........... ARRHH! (*I'm calm. I'm cool...*)
I couldn’t lose him. Once he was mated, his female would steal him away. We are possessive like that, and none would tolerate our close friendship. Even my sister would have an issue with it. It was our nature.
Braxton captured my hand. “You will never lose me,” he murmured, reading the agony on my face. “A hundred dragon females could exist – you’re my number one. Best friends for life, I haven’t forgotten my promise."

Wow, when I find a great book I pour out all my feels.. Man this review became looong.. Sorry mates..! All I have left to say is...

Rate: 5/4-4.5 (I really can't make up my mind) stars.

DNF. I thought I was reading UF, you know that genre with supernatural/paranormal things and violence. Yeah, this wasn't it. It was like one of those coming of age stories/movies that's rated a low PG-13. Maybe a kiss, but mostly a lot of the character talking about herself and how awesome, but misunderstood she is, while still being awesome. All the girls hate her because of her awesomeness & how much all the boys like her, cuz she's perfect, duh. <~ See, this shit is not UF, and that's all this book was selling. Some high school drama mislabeled as UF.

I made it 20 pages before I decided I'd rather stare at my ceiling than read this. At least, the ceiling doesn't tell me how perfect it is. The ceiling knows it's got imperfections. Jessa Lebron (I can't stop thinking Lebron James, the basketball player, when I read her name) is the main character and whose POV it's written from. What happened so far: she falls asleep in class and reprimanded by the teacher - definitely a high school problem (she claims she's in college). The teacher singles her out and is mean to her - it's because she's too awesome, that's why everyone is out to bring her down. Her best friends, a set of quadruplets, defend her to the teacher - can't let an injustice like that go unnoticed, they're so morally perfect (boring). But she doesn't need protecting because she's an über powerful alpha wolf shifter - really? because I'm getting all posturing bark and no substantive bite from her. She doesn't notice how hot the quad best friends are - because you know, like, hotness doesn't matter at all, even though we get to hear about how hot she is, she's unable to notice it in others. That seems like she's an unobservant idiot looking to get killed. Think she looks both ways and observes traffic before crossing the street? Probably not, she's too awesomely perfect & powerful to need to do something so trivial.

I stopped at the town meeting part after hearing how perfectly curvy her body is and she makes sure to eat like a whale scouring the sea for tons of plankton in order to maintain her perfect figure. And she almost started an "elbow war" with the quads sitting beside her because they were hogging her space. Ugh. Get the gun, it's time to end this, for the good of books everywhere.

It's a shame that a book filed under UF with dragon in the title, turned out to suck so bad. It's a sad day when not even dragons can save a book, because we've already established how awesome dragons are. The only way this book could've been saved, was if Smaug the dragon came and burned the town to the ground and ate all the people. I could've said burned all the people, too, but I like to think Smaug wouldn't waste food like that. He seems like a standup dragon, I mean he didn't outright eat Bilbo Baggins.

From what I've gleamed from other reviews, this book doesn't improve. No reports of violence, deaths, or sexy times either, just more of this talking about one's awesomeness crap. Yeah. No. Shut it down. Shut it down.

Imagine a world where the supernatural are forced to unite and govern with representatives ...
Yup thats the one Jessa might end up destroying
descriptiondescription

Jessa is an alpha wolf who never fit so obviously prefers a group of 4 dare-devil brothers each born with a different power.

The Compass brothers !! Braxton dragon shifter&possible-love-interest#1, Tyson magic user, Jacob fey, and Maximusvampire&possible-love-interest#2

TBH, I read Dragon Marked cuz she also wrote Trickery of the Gods & I hoped she would dazzle me again with interesting love interests, unique world-building, and a sassy heroine.
I was not disappointed.
description

With these powerful arrogant males, Jessa often feels the need to prove her dominance and kick ass. Because consequences are just something for Tomorrow-Jessa to figure out!
“Why is it that no one shows my wolf her due respect?” He smirked. “Well it might be a dog eat dog world, but... a dragon eats everyone.”

What I loved most about Jess was: She didn't take orders from anyone but she also isn't a complete moron and knew when to ask for help. She NEVER blindly follows orders, mah gurl
description

So all these different species all unite in their hatred to stop a (evil?) dragon lord from rising again. But we don't really get the whole backstory of the dragon lord. Like what the fuck happened the first time he was in power ?? But apparently he schemes and selects people to bear a 'dragon mark'
description

The Four are a group of brothers that hunt down the marked but again ..... not a lot is known about their group ... except they aren't cute like the Compasses !! Are yall seeing a kinda common theme of the bad guys having no back story smh
“ They wore identical cold, hard expressions. Could their parents even tell them apart? No wonder they were known as the Four, there seemed to be no individuality about them at all.
And they were mutha-effing-scary.”

And the dragon mark? A mystery for our characters to unravel. Little is known except they are hunted down and thrown into prison (Compass's future job.) Oh and Jessa is one of those marked whoop whoop

Now the humorrrr in this book, just bloody brilliant. One of my favorite scenes was when Four tried to sway everyone the scene was just so fucking funny and her POV made it even better
“Shit, he even had me convinced that the dragon marked were going to take over the world, and I was one of them”

description

Why is it that most SiNgLe HeRoInE "OH SO TRAGIC" *eye roll* fLaW ~ is the same bodytype too skinny and don't eat enough *head shake* BUT NOT THIS CHICK!
“For the first time since we entered the prison, I was depressed. Braxton grinned as he sat down right next to me. “All that we’ve gone through in the last few days and finally you’re upset because of shitty food”

My two major complaints:
One: All the sudden Mom and Sister come to Jessa's world when TBH i was interested in her life without them.. plus sister was annoying AF and kept asking questions. Back to the action please!!
description

Second was the ever cliche twist on the Four:

Riiight. I guess after so many of these bad "good" guys, I just wanted a general bad guy to fight and overcome. But I also wanted some background info on the bad guys, guess I'm needy like that

Overall a super entertaining world, I am definitely reading the rest of this. I pray to the Book Gods that it doesn't turn into a complete love triangle. On to book 2!

DNF at: who the hell knows? I didn't bother checking.

This Faster-Than-Light DNF (FTLD™) is the result of hours of self-preservation practice. Yes, absolutely. Because one of my resolutions for this year is to use discernment when it comes to reading books. One of my resolutions for this year is to stop letting the masochist in me out. One of my resolutions for this year is to stop reading Stupidly Stupid Pieces of Crap (SSPoC™).

If I hadn't been such a noob in the Discernment Department, I wouldn't even have tried reading this thing. I mean, it has been shelved as both Romance *shudders* and NA *dies* by Clueless Goodreaders. But you know me, always expecting the best, willing to see the bright side of life and all that crap. Besides, dragons, people! Dragons! Yeah well, all my dragon reads of late have been SSPoCs™, so I think I'll stick to barnacles from now on. Yes, that's right, barnacles. Got a problem with that?

But anyway.

You know what really sucks here? It's that this thing isn't even NA. Oh no, NA would have been much too evolved. This is nothing but a Stupidly Stupid Piece of Crappy YA Crap (SSPCYC™) in disguise. Featuring a whole bunch of immature, supposed-to-be-in-their-20s-but-acting-like-13-year-olds special snowflakes. And I might not have made it very far in the book, but let me tell you, the Stupid was strong in this one. Really strong.

So I did the self-preservation thing, and here I am. Still alive. I didn't throw my Kindle across the room in a fit of sudden I-just-read-a-SSPCYC™-rage while reading this thing. I didn't let the homicidal maniac in me out, either. I'm not even in a ranting mood. I don't even want to annihilate all life on the planet. Peace and enlightenment are me. So much so that I even considered giving this thing another try. Unfortunately, something just came up and I won't be able to read this delightful thing after all.

Damn. Life really sucks sometimes. Sorry people, I'm outta here. I have to go attend a funeral and stuff.

PS: please say hi to Edward, my Let's Bail Snail.

*** 3 ***

Buddy Read with my MacHalo Freaks for our February Book of the Month, 2016

Jessa Lebron is a wolf shifter with a bit of something extra. She lives in Connecticut, a center for the five supernatural races: vampire, shifter, fey, magic users and demi-fey in the US. It is also a place where the prison for the baddest of bad such creatures are kept for the safety of the rest of humanity.

Jessa is in supernatural college and her constant companions are 4 quadruplets who have grown up with her since early childhood. They are a dragon shifter, a vampire, a fey and a magic user (wizard) and are the next generation of leaders in their community. But their little ideallic pastoral existence is disturbed by couple of revelations, one of which is in the person of a long lost twin sister to Jessa and the secrets that have been kept from the young ladies. All they have known has been a lie and their lives change for ever.

For a book in the Urban Fantasy genre this was a fun idea for a plot and the cast of characters has a lot of potential. But this is also the problem. The book has a potential, but the current realization is not quite up to par. It is entertaining, the MC and her friends have the beginning of well built structure to carry a book, but neither one of them feels tangible or real. They seem lake paper cut-outs placed on a plain background. Neither they, nor the world are crafted in a way for us to feel like we are there. Thus I was not able to get invested in the faith of any of the players and the only thing that drove me to finish the book was the hope that something unexpected happens... Which is the other primary issue - it never surprised me... I do not mind guessing what is going to happen, but I do want to work for it a bit. The events which should have been fresh and surprising were so thoroughly foreshadowed, that they never got my adrenaline pumping..

There were some writing issues, but I do not find those irreversible. The author has potential and it shows in the way the characters communicate with each-other. So there is hope, because I find that this is where most new authors really struggle. The other good news is that there weren't any dragging descriptions, but some for orientation in space and time, might have been helpful.

In conclusion, I think that I was too old for this book. I am definitely not the targeted audience, which in this case is early teens to young adult. No explicit sex or violence, which would be appropriate for even pre-teen readers as introduction into the UF genre. I will probably read the following volumes of this series with the fervent hope to see growth both in the story and the writing!

I wish all wonderful time reading and many more books!!! :-)

I was surprised how much I enjoyed this one. Told through first point of view, Jessa is part of an elite group of ruling supernaturals destined to eventually take over the small town council. Supernaturals are segregated from the human population by choice, with their own town ran with their own systems - all businesses, the prison, the school are supernaturally ran and inhabited. The variety of supernaturals is widely diverse, from every type of shapeshifter including the rare dragon, vampires, magic users called wizards, the fey, mermaids, etc. Jessa gets some startling discoveries in this book concerning not only her family, but herself.

It starts a bit awkwardly but after the first two chapters really takes off. At first I feared Jessa would be another smug and annoying heroine, but she's actually awesome. Amusing, genuine, compassionate, tough when she needs to be. The bond with her and the four elect felt a little false at first (how could they all care THAT much??) but it grew on me, as did her family and the rest of the paper players.

I don't want to spoil the surprise by revealing the plot, but it's layered in events and pacing. They don't stay in one place long but there is no rushed exhaustion. It has heart and it has story. There's a relationship brewing on the horizon but the story is the front focus first. I'm not sure with the ending if there is also a betrayal (wouldn't surprise me), but I'm itching to read the second and see what happens next.

Besides the enjoyable writing skill and characterization, the world is interesting with some unique touches through the 'dragon marked' legend.

Unfortunately the back blurb of this book gives way too much of the story and surprise element away, but I guess they do that to hook potential readers. It's not fully accurate as much more happens, and the prison stay is thankfully brief.

Jessa is a (wolf) shifter. She’s driven, smart, talented, powerful and caring. She’s the daughter of the wolf pack leader and will probably be the leader later. Jessa’s best friends are the Compass brothers. There are four of them: Braxton, Maximus, Tyson and Jason. They all have a different ability. Every brother is strong, powerful, protective and caring. They will probably rule their world one day.

Jessa and the Compass brothers spend a lot of time together and they have each other’s back. Jessa and the boys are looking for the hidden prison in their world for a reason. The search isn’t easy, but they won’t stop looking. They do what they feel they need to do and they don’t mind the danger they can get into. The five of them together are unstoppable and adventurous.

I liked Dragon Marked a lot. I’m loving the paranormal world the author has created and I’ll definitely continue reading this series. The mystery and twists are great! Jessa will discover some big things. I do hope for more romance in the next one. I already know with whom I hope Jessa will end up with.

Dragon Marked is my first surprise read of 2015. I grabbed it on a whim while poking around Amazon and decided I'd "just read a chapter or two" to check it out. Only, 1-2 chapters turned into 9-10 and so on.

Dragon Marked introduces us to Jessa Lebron, a twenty-two year old wolf shifter who's attending 'supes' college. She lives with her father, wolf shifter alpha and high council leader of all shifting races. Their town, a gateway/guardian community that is protected by witch magic to repel humans from entering, consists of six thousand members of the supernatural community. These members are represented by a five-member council: a vampire, shifter, fae, magic user and one of the demi fey (mermaid, gargoyles, trolls, etc).

This town is also a supernatural prison community housing Vanguard prison, which is hidden somewhere deep in the forest. Jessa and her best friends, "the quads" Compass brothers, Maximus (vampire), Braxton (dragon shifter), Jacob (fey), and Tyson (wizard), have been searching for the prison for weeks. Their curiosity is getting the better of them. The quads know they're set to become Council members when they reach twenty-five, but they cannot wait to learn more about this mysterious place.
Secrets don't stay hidden forever.
Soon, through no fault of their own, they learn more about Vanguard first-hand - as prisoners. While there awaiting their trial, they make a startling discovery. To make matters worse, rumors of the dragon marked surface. A thousand years ago, an evil sorcerer-dragon shifter hybrid tried to rule all five races. It is said that the dragon marked will rise and finish what he started. Because of this, any child born with the mark were taken and killed, or so everyone assumed.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I liked the bond between Jessa and the brothers. Each of the brothers has a unique personality and I look forward to getting to know them better. The only downfall for me (4.5 vs 5-star rating) was the lack of surprise. Even the blurb for this book gives too much away, in my opinion. Throughout the book there were wonderings (my new word) made by the characters that were blatantly obvious to the reader. There's no cliffhanger, but the ending leaves me anxious for book 2.

Side Note: This is the first book I've read by Jaymin Eve, but I noticed I grabbed First World (first book in her Walker Saga) as a freebie several years ago. (It's still free, for those interested) While I wait for book 2 in this series, I may give that one a go.

I seriously think I just died and went to heaven. This has got to be one of the greatest books I've ever read. Seriously.

5+ Stars

I honestly did not know what I was getting myself into. I'm in love.
The main character has a special bond with four guys. They've been together since they were two. Their relationship is probably my favorite thing about the book. They love her so much. I can't really describe it. Jaymin wrote this book wonderfully. Let's just say, they'd die for her, and she'd die for them. All through high school and college my group of friends were a bunch of boys. They treated me like one of them. We hung out 24/7, playing video games, paintball, you name it. I couldn't help that I fit in better with the guys. I guess that's why I like this book so much. Her bond with them constantly made me smile.

I'm not going to lie. This is the FUNNIEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ. I was constantly laughing, no joke.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
I stared at it for a moment before a tear escaped the corner of my eye.

Braxton laughed. "You are still the only supe I know to cry about cake."

I sucked down my sob. "There are very few things in this world which can move me to tears." I hugged the plate close to my chest. "This is just beautiful."

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Of course, there has to be romance. The author drizzled it here and there, practically teasing her readers. It drove me nuts. It was enough to make me fall in love, though.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
"You will never lose me," he murmured, reading the agony on my face, "A hundred dragon females could exist - you're my number one. Best friends for life, I haven't forgotten my promise."

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay, I'm going to obsess over the characters now.

Jessa is absolutely amazing. She's everything a girl would want to be... Loving, fierce, beautiful and compassionate. She definitely ranks near the top of my "Favorite Characters of All Time" list. Not to mention, she's bad ass.

Braxton Oh my... what a heart throb. The way he acted towards Jessa had me blushing. The tension between them was so real. Not only is he caring, but he's a freaking dragon. It doesn't get more epic than that.

Mischa, Tyson, Maximus and Jacob rank pretty high in my books as well. They deserve their own descriptions, but they're alike in so many ways. (And people are going to get annoyed with all my pictures.)
They have the biggest hearts, and the best personalities. The book wouldn't be funny without them. They all form such strong bonds with Jessa, and with each other. This is hard to believe considering they are all so different. Mischa, Jessa's sister, is a shifter. Tyson is a wizard, Maximus is a vampire and Jacob is a fey. Despite their different breeds... they are the definition of love and family.

If I haven't convinced you to read this yet... I'll try one more time.

The story line is pretty original. And like I said before, Jaymin knows how to write. She does it beautifully. The imagery is so vivid it blew me away. I definitely was not reading a book, I was watching a freaking movie. The story flowed very nicely, and I was constantly kept on the edge of my seat.

The only thing I hate about this author is that I have to wait for the second book. ;)

Trust me when I say, "YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!!

Meh... this one didn't really work all that well for me. I think it had potential … I mean come on … HELLO- DRAGONS.. But, it fell short. All the action scenes had a build up but no delivery. The jokes made were bland and didn't make much sense. I also kept thinking the main characters- (5 in all) were like 13 or 14 because of their immaturity, but NOPE - they were like 22. My biggest problem was this is considered a YA - and I have no issue with mild language, even in a YA, but this one just had wayyyy too much. I felt it was forced and seriously unnecessary. I do not think I will be continuing this series it was just not what I was hoping it would be :(

I was irritated by the end of the first chapter. I'm sure this would be a solid 2 star book if I bothered to finish it, but I'm not going to waste my time suffering through it. These are supposed to be college kids in their early 20's, but they acted like immature teenagers and thought they knew it all. It was really hard to believe these 5 kids were supposed to be leaders in a few short years. Books like this are the reason I hate YA.

Almost every character was a special snowflake. The sheer number of special snowflakes was astounding. Each of them were special in more ways than one. Being pretty and perfect made them desired by all. They were alphas destined to lead. Supposedly they were smart, but there was plenty of evidence to the contrary. Genetic flukes made them superior to others. The whole situation was over the top.

Second Read Through: 29/03/2017
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

So, I realised I totally suck as I hadn't reviewed several of Jaymin's books. (I'm a terrible person, I know.) So...... Perfect excuse to re-read, right?

The Basics:
Genre: YA Paranormal
Series/standalone: Series - Book #1
Stars: 4 Stars.
Would I recommend this book: Yes, to fans of paranormal YA reads.
Would I read again: Yes.

First Thought:
DRAGONS, DRAGONS!

I've said it once and I will say it again, there just aren't enough books with dragons. There will never be enough books with dragons.

The not so basic stuff... AKA, Chesca goes on about the Compass brothers, and completely ignores the books interesting plot in favour of drooling and locking them all up in the book boyfriend harem.

When reading this, even now I know the ending having read all three books. I still find myself wishing it was a reverse-harem book so Jessa could keep them all..... or at least just Braxton and Maximus. (Lets just not talk about Mischa, okay?)

Braxton The Dragon Shifter, he was my favourite on the first read through... no surprises he remained my fave this time too.
Maximus Re-reading book 1, made me remember how much i LOVED his character.
Jacob The one I feel like i knew the least in book one. - enjoyed his character nevertheless.
Tyson Legit dying for his book. *_* (Magical Compass. being released sometime this year!)

I suppose I should mention Jessa as well...

She cries over cake and therefore I feel like I understand her on the deepest levels.

“The smallest smile finally graced his face as he handed me a paper plate. Nestled in the center was a slice of lemon cake. I stared at it for a moment before a tear escaped the corner of my eye. Braxton laughed .
“You are still the only supe I know to cry about cake.” I sucked down my sob .
“There are very few things in this world which can move me to tears.” I hugged the plate close to my chest.
“This is just beautiful.”

Final thoughts

Read it.... And maybe eat some cake too.

Hit or miss

Books are a hit or miss kind of thing sometimes. This for me was a miss. I just didn’t connect well with the story and plot. I found too many flaws in the MC Jessa as well as the rest of the supporting characters. But as always this might just be a character flaw in me, you might read this book and fall in love with them.
I personally found Jessa to be extremely annoying. I felt like she was underwhelming, obsessed with food but described as perfect, the author reminds you of it every couple pages. As well as how she’s so bad ass and alpha though never does much to support that claim. And the romance is ridiculous. Every guy falls in love with her or try’s to kill her. All girls hate her because she’s pretty and beloved by “her” quads.
In addition to poor character development and growth the world building was pretty limited as well in my opinion. But the premise for this book was too bad, just not spectacular... or specific enough to hold my interest.
Again, just me. You might love it. Best of luck if you do try it.

Second time read. First time review - I think?
Either way, I still ended up loving this book!

Dragon Marked is the first of the Supernatural Prison Series. I forgot how much I missed the compass boys - but hot damn, I did! Okay, so there's Jessa, who is a wolf shifter (aka the wolf princess) and her four best friends (the compass brothers) and uh.. she gets a whole lot of information dropped on her in one day.

1. Her mom is back.
2. She has a sister.
3. This sister isn't actually her younger sister.. but her twin.
4. HER DAD KNEW THE WHOLE FUCKING TIME!

Yeah, I probably would've freaked the freak out and shifted too. However, I also don't have four hot ass brothers looking out for me either. Of course, I was shipping the ship out of her and Braxton. Sorry boys, you were all cute and adorable but there can only be one for my girl Jessa. Plus I was shipping Max with Mischa. NOW Mischa was so annoying the second time around. She probably annoyed the shit out of me the first time I read this book.. but since I didn't write a review I will make it known now.. that she annoyed me.

The other brothers, Jake and Tyson are equally adorable and hot. However, I know that there is someone out there for them. It isn't Jessa but their friendship bond is what gives me life. I love how their friendship means more to them than anything. They are their own pack and I envied them. I want that!

Then of course this book delivers a good mystery and a couple of twists. I like how twins, triplets, or quadruplets.. are rare. I mean, in my eyes they seem rare. I just really liked how this book made them even rarer - especially in the shifter world.

I could probably go on and on about how much I loved this book but I wont. I need to move onto other book reviews.. and obviously, the second book of this series! I'm loving rereading it because I really enjoyed it the first time. I'm just hoping that I continue to love it!

This book was SO much better than I thought it would be. At first I felt it was moving a little slow but I was just getting to know my new friends. I was so engrossed I wanted to be pack with the sexy Compass brothers too lol. I expect the next book to be even better.
I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Jessa, love her or hate her, the girl has attitude and the backbone to stand toe to toe against anyone who attempts to hurt those she cares about. Her strong sense of right and wrong, justice and injustice is to be admired, her execution of some of the stands she takes border on “what was she thinking.” She is also the next in line as alpha behind her shifter father in a world where supernatural races live side by side, generally in peace with one another. Yep, one bad wolf-shifter, for sure and now Jessa discovers she has a twin sister, and, oh yes, she has been DRAGON MARKED which should anyone find out, puts a great big, bloody bullseye on her back as we discover that even the supernatural worlds know hatred and fear of the unknown.

Always by Jessa’s side are four powerful beings, brothers who have varied talents, but each are heartbreakers in their community. Together they will face injustice, evil and prison in an effort to save other dragon marked individuals, some who have never known anything other than the brutality of a supernatural prison. Someone wants Jessa, dead or alive and will stop at nothing to trap her. With the Dragon King said to return, all hell may break loose and guaranteed Jessa will be in the thick of it!

Fun reading! Fast, furious and filled with dialogue that is rapier sharp! Jaymin Eve has created the ultimate heroine, flawed, feisty and sometimes, flaming hot!

Wow!!! The storyline is exceptionally exciting! Lots of twists and turns, with unexpected surprises that truly left me on the edge of my seat.

First of let me say the Compass Quads are... TO DIE FOR!!! We have Maximus the all sexy, powerful Vampire. Jake a powerful fey (he is a bit of a mystery at the moment). Tyson the sarcastic tough and all powerful wizard. Last but most definitely not least, my personal favorite Braxton the dragon.

I can not put into words how much I love Braxton. He is just the right mixture of strong dominate male and sweetness. The love he feels for Jessa and his brothers is overwhelming. The ferociousness he has to protect them is sexy as hell. Gah love him!

I love a strong female heroine and that is Jessa in spades. A needy FMC drives me insane and thank the stars she is far from that. A lot of the time a FMC makes some super stupid decisions the make me clunk my head on my ereader, but she left me free of headaches!

The chemistry between all the characters leaps off the pages. There are characters introduced who are huge shockers (you'll have to read it to understand what I mean) making my jaw drop. Sexual chemistry is everywhere but be warned there is NO sexy time in this book. I feel like Ms Eve is performing a lot of foreplay with her readers *wink wink*

Ends with a cliffy!

I dropped this from a 5 to a 4 due to feeling like something was missing. Maybe the intimacy, or maybe due to a good portion at the beginning being a little too informatory. Do not put this book down it takes a turn for amazing!

Book 2 is a MUST for me!

Happy Reading,
DD

More than enjoyed this despite the cliffhanger ending. If I'm honest it wasn't an abrupt stop just a lead into a new chapter aka book two. The h is the bomb. I can't find one fault with her. The love interest(s?) seem like all good choices I say why choose lol

For those interested the arc is available in Netgalley

Excellent, loved it.

This was an excellent, excellent book. It got my attention quickly and kept it throughout, at no point did I loose interest. The characters are amazing, like able, multidimensional and real. I felt like I got to know them all and was along with them in the book. I can’t wait to read the next book, which I’m starting now. I highly recommend this book.

Rating: 2/5

I alternated between the audio book and ebook on this one. On that note, I have to mention that the narrator did a pretty good job. I'd have little to complain about her interpretation.

Now, the book. It started well... Until the second third chapter. Again, it is like a teenager's fantasy, where you are a badass with alpha vibes (which wants to be translated as authority... mrrr-yeah) and you have four very hot and incredibly strong guys trailing after you like puppies and tending to your every need 24/7.

I would've liked Jessa. I like spunky, spitfire characters that have a backbone. What I do not like is children in the body of grown-ups, acting all mighty, slut-shaming, that could benefit of an ego-check because they have a superiority complex (finally inhales). I mean, really... I got tired of hearing how Jessa is an alpha that could stare down anyone, how strong she is, and how jealous the other females were for the attention she got from the Compass Quadruplets. Even her obsession with food, which was funny in the beginning, failed to deliver after a dozen too many scenes where this was emphasized. We get it, she likes loves food. Quit giving us the whole history lesson every time she eats.

The whole hierarchy of the pack was bullshit. You heard me. I've read about packs before (Kate Daniels anyone?) and I saw stories that better paint the picture of pack hierarchy and the way it manifests in shape-shifters. We are told so many times of the authority of the alpha, how no one can disobey him, but Jessa does nothing but that! She was never put in her place, although there were instances when she crossed the line. There were no repercussions to her back-talking. Is she really that much of a special wolf cub? Because, heck, everything seems to revolve around her. Also, I get that pack members are close and all that, that they show support by touch... but that ain't reason enough for her to share a bed with two males and call it 'a pack thing'. It was just an excuse to put Jessa in the middle of something since she's so special...

Braxton? A moody boy, in the body of a man, showcasing a superiority complex. That's what he is. Oh, the big, bad Braxton, we should be shaking in our underwear just thinking of him getting angry. Boo, hoo. If pack hierarchy was legit, he should either challenge the current pack leader or keep his head down. They are all brats.

The plotline? It was so silly! Every single thing that happened was on thin reasoning. It was bordering on plain stupid. Jessa is stubborn, Jessa gets in trouble, Braxton roars, the other three brothers join the rescue, they make a huge scene, no one bats an eyelash because they're saving the damsel Jessa, so it's all good.

It was all so conveniently laid out, the relationships so... shallow and hollow, the plot line so weak and predictable... .

There were info dumps. Paragraphs of information that I felt like skipping to get back to the story because I couldn't care less about whatever was written there. It wasn't useful information because it was thrown at me and then nothing that followed used it in any way. I skipped it and I was just fine. That's not how you build a world and showcase its races.

I could go on and on about this. The only reason I won't give it 1 star is because I've read books with a worse writing style and there were a few (very few) moments that I actually liked. But I wouldn't recommend it. Also, if anyone tagged it NA... What were you thinking?! I'd say it's YA all the way. Even the characters feel like middle schoolers that talk about sex because they can, feeling all mature because they've discovered where babies come from, but their immaturity level is astonishing for their supposed ages :)

Chance given to the book. Chance wasted.

I've really, really needed a good read for a while now. It's been a low summer reading break for me and I don't like it. I finally figured out I needed paranormal reads to keep my interest right now. So when a bookish friend suggested this series, I jumped to grab the first book. And before I had gotten half way through it, I was buying the rest of the series. Yep, this is just one of those series that captured me and held. Devoured it and was so glad book two was already waiting.

What's really interesting about this series is how it's set around the supernatural prison system. The city where this is set houses one of the prisons. The supernaturals work at or support that prison. There are five types of supernaturals: shifters (all types of animals), fae, magic users, vampires and the demi-fae which included all kinds of creatures from trolls to merpeople and more. The dynamics of that type of a community was an interesting setting for this story.

The characters were excellent. I loved Jessa. She puts the bada$$ in shifter. That girl does not put up with $hit from anyone especially her quads trying to shield her. Her inner dialogue was funny and had me cracking up lots of times. I'd compare her to Alex from Jennifer L Armentrout's Covenant series. Add to her the four boys that are her best friends. A set of quadruplets each a different member of each race, they were seriously protective of Jessa. I adore all four boys but Braxton was my favorite. He's a dragon shifter and he seemed to be much more attached to Jessa. Altogether, this group of five made up a pack of friends that I was cheering for the whole book.

There were a lot of well developed secondary characters that made this book special. The sorcerer was adorable. The surprise arrivals certainly added an interesting dynamics to things. And the head of the shifter packs, Jessa's father, had some explaining to do. I really enjoyed how all of these players carved out an essential piece of the story making it richer and fuller.

The story was compelling and had me listening to every second. I had an idea of who I wanted Jessa to end up with but of course that isn't what this book was about. This first book sets the stage for the conflicts that are sure to come in book two. And it does such a good job of crafting the story that I wanted to dive right into book two as soon as I finished the first. Yeah, it ends on a cliffhanger and you definitely want book two on hand for immediate consumption.

Really and truly enjoyed this one. It was just what I needed. Lots of good world building, well developed characters and a compelling story all had me devouring it.

Have you read it? If you enjoy paranormal, then you should. It's almost as good as a JLA book! (That is very high praise indeed).

I like the idea of this book but after reading it and reflecting on it it feels like not much happens of consequence.

We have the main character a snarky werewolf girl who is daughter of the alpha in this secret village of supernaturals built to guard a secret supernatural prison.

The idea of a supernatural prison is interesting and how it would differ from a regular one how it would work etc there's lots to explore there but that aspect gets mostly glossed over for some tame romance and some prophetic nonsense that's also not really explored (I would guess next book might go into details of some kind).

Mostly we just have main character Jessa go on and on about food (the most emotional she ever gets is about a slice of cake) and then hang out with her best friends (and mostly love interests) the hot superpower quadruplets who some how all have different super types (ones a fey another a vampire another a mage and the final one a dragon). The quad are fairly two dimensional there's a lot of brooding and they serve mostly to rescue and or feed Jessa at various points.

There's very little tension in the book things just happen any secrets get revealed fairly quickly. The main conflict with the primary antagonist gets resolved off screen and some new lot of bad guys show up out of nowhere.

There's the kernel of a good idea here and the writing is upbeat the comunity they hint at interesting but the execution and plot needs work. Plus for a paranormal romance there's not really a lot of romance the main character barely seems to notice any of the other characters or realize their romantic intentions much unless it's spelled out in block letters.

2.5...Nice start but it feels like it's YA instead of NA.... lot's of sticking tongues out at each other, shoulder punching, and middle finger salutes. They talk a lot about sex and how active they are but you don't actually see it (which to me is just plain boring). The writing is kind of choppy and feels abrupt. Has a lot of potential but it was too predictable. May continue on to see if Braxton and Jessa finally do the horizontal mambo. At this point that's all that interests me.

Friends bad reviews nearly put me off starting this one but, thankfully I ended up enjoying it.

There are clear similarities in the group dynamic between Jessa and the Compass brothers and Willa and the Abcurse's from Trickery, the difference here being that while they all love and protect her, there is one clear romantic lead above the others (though nothing happens between them in this book).

Plot-wise the setup is well in place for some action in the next book which I'm looking forward to.
