This was ok except I totally saw the “twist ending” at the very beginning of the book.

Linda's high school sets up chat rooms and she cant resist the urge to visit them. I really like the tension in the book. I also like the climax part leading down to the falling action. I don't like the part of the high school thinking it would have been a good idea to create online chat rooms. my final overall option about the book is that it's a very interesting book. It's also very relative as well. I think I woulds recommend this book to teenagers that are in high school.

this book is a really nice book and i like it because there is a student got the student council president to tell everyone about the new invention he wrote.this book is about a girl who was never part of a group. so it was one Friday and the elementary students were having a assembly and the president of the student council started talking about a chat room that this guy called: Chad had made and shared it with the student council. So then they told the whole school!!!!!!!!!!

the minor character in this story was janice. she played a big part because she has jujubes best friend. she was always there for here. and the sences she wasn't in wasnt that important to the story but the sences she was in she was an important person to the book. so janice was a minor character but played a big roll in the book.

This book was a great one day read. It only took a couple hours to finish. However I read it while watching tv during those commercials. I think a teen might like it even though it seems to be a dead end short stories type book.

this was a cute book, but what made it so funny, is how paranoid about chat rooms the main character is.

Chat Room by Kristin Butcher is a short novel about setting the right expectations and finding yourself. The book takes place in high school and follows a ninth grade girl named Linda. Linda is a shy, outcast student. She typically stays to herself and blends into the crowds. Linda goes through big changes in just a few days all because of a school invention.

The story is set in Wellington High. Linda, a withdrawn and quiet ninth grader, is at an assemble when the announcement of a school chat room is made. After a lot of contemplation, she decides to view the chat room and eventually signs up as 'Roxane', the partner of a movie character, Cyrano-another chatter in the rooms. Her and Cyrano have many conversations in the chats and Linda starts to receive gifts signed with a C. Her immediate guess is Cyrano and Linda gets obsessed with Cyrano and chat rooms, causing her to fall out with her friend and lose sight of herself.

Linda eventually figures out who 'C' is. Although it isn't who she wanted it to be, it gives her a reality check that helps her to further mature in the story. She learns many valuable lessons such as how to value a true friendship and the importance of setting expectations reasonably. She also learns how to find herself and how to appreciate who and what she has in life.

If you're someone that likes coming of age stories, you'll like this book. If you're someone that likes short books with interesting plot, you'll like it. Overall, a very good book.

This was an interesting coming-of-age story, and I felt fear grip my heart the entire time because I expected that there would be a teacher or some other adult lurking behind one of the chat names and preying on our girl, and while that wasn't exactly the case, this was still a good book to read about the dangers of the internet back when the internet was still a young child itself. I think if this was written about modern chat rooms and internet escapades, it would be entirely different, and I'm afraid to look at what a story like that might look like.

This book was obviously written a while ago, considering the main topic of "chat rooms" which were such a huge deal in the storyline.

Feels dated, but I did enjoy the "mini" lesson which was basically, "you don't know what is truly happening in chat rooms".

Well written and the main character is fun, considering she is only 15 and obviously a young 15.

Important story without all the gory stuff for young girls. Making friends on the internet can be easy and fun but it also gives you a sense of false security. It is so much harder to grow up in this world than in the "ole days."

High interest, low reading level book. Good way to teach internet safety to adolescents in a straightforward manner.

This is a nice short book to read in a couple of hours. Main character Linda is shy and not really involved in school activities. She has an issue with her friend Janice, who is being selfish and pretending to hate everyone and everything. When their High School sets up new online chat rooms, Linda can't resist to take a look on them. She had never chatted before but she thinks it would be safe, since it is on the school home page, so she decides to register herself as a user for the chat room. At first, she just reads what the other chatters are writing, but after a while, she starts to write herself, and she is on the computer almost every night. She meets a boy who's nickname is Crayano and wonders who he is in real life. That's how the search for Crayano's identity starts...
I liked that Chat room is written in first person, but on the other side it was sometimes a little childish. For example the narrator's attitude against chat rooms, because she says a couple of times that it is a big thing to register there. She is kind of afraid that she might say something wrong in the chat room and the other chatters would not like her. Also, she doesn't want to get caught by her parents. I didn't think it was that big of a deal to chat online. But still, this is a cute story and it was nice to read. I liked the ending, especially how things ended up with Janice. It talks about how fast you can start building up a second life in a chat room, because nobody knows who you are in real life. I would recommend the book to younger girls, maybe Junior High age. I think they would really enjoy reading it. It talks about online

Kristin Butcher, author of, Chat Room, presents a young adolescent child who falls for the wrong guy. Linda, the protagonist, is a wallflower, and not very sociable until the school genius creates a school chat room. Students choose and nickname, unknown to their peers, and socialize, get help, etc... Linda's friend Janice, a.k.a "The Beast", warns her about the dangers the chat room may create, however, Linda fails to recognize the real threat until its climax. The boy she fell in love with over the chat room wasn't the same guy that sent her flowers, chocolate, and poems in her locker. She finds out that the guy talking to her on the chat room was the most popular guy, yet, the guy that sends her the gifts is a geek and a nerd.
This book wasn't the most enjoyable book but it was very funny because the characters in the chat room were very paranoid, especially the main character. Also, I learned that falling for either a guy or girls over the internet isn't a wise choice because they may not be who they say they are. What I didn't like though, is that it wasn't my type of book basically, but it was still appreciated.

Do you think the title fits the book? Why or why not? Yes, I think the title goes good with this book because Linda is almost always going in the Chat Room to talk to this guy that she thinks is perfect for him.
In what ways are you like any of these characters? I'm kinda like Linda I like chatting with people on Facebook, or I'm texting people. I'm almost always talking to somebody.
Do you like the ending of the book? Why or why not? Yes, I do like the ending of this book because it tells who the person who she was chatting online with was and she found out that she has a secret admirer out there that was giving her the flowers and the one that gave her the ticket for the dance, she went but... You will have to read it to find out what happened. ;)
I wish there was a series of these books because they are pretty good, it didn't look that interesting until I started reading it. So if you like books about people chatting and some fighting between good friends I totally recommend this book to y'all.

In my opinion, I did not enjoy reading the novel CHAT ROOM by Kristin Butcher. The novel is about a teenage girl named Linda who joins a school chat room and meets a boy. Linda was not going to join the chat room because her friend told her that there are bad people on there but Linda did anyways. One part of the novel I did not like is when Linda tries to meet this person in the chat room in real life. I do not think that it was a good idea to do that because it could have been someone she did not like or someone weird. Another part of the novel I did not like is when she lies to her parents. Linda told her parents that she was going to the mall when Linda was actually going to the dance. I thought that this was a terrible choice of her to do and if something had happened to her, then her parents would not know where she would be. In conclusion, I would recommend this novel to anyone who likes teen drama.

Chat Room is about a girl who is in high school and her high school creates a new chat room where you can use a nickname and talk to other people without them knowing it is you. Linda doesn't have much friends except for one girl who is the school bully. So Linda uses the chat room to meet other people when she becomes close with a boy in the chat room and she tries to find out who it is.

A text-to-text connection is that like Linda I'm not really loud and I don't talk a lot. I'm kind of shy and I am not somebody who has a whole bunch of friends.

I rate this book a 4 because it was really good but it was so short. It was really suspenseful and I liked it a lot. It was a really fun read and not boring. I recommend this book to people who like books that are about teenage girls and mysteries.

This high-interest, easy reading level book is aimed at the middle school to high school audience.

Sometimes it's hard to know where we fit in to a social structure. It can be hard to make friends in real life. A chat room can help 'break the ice', but is virtual friendship as good as real life?

I really enjoyed this book, and the lessons the main character learns. She makes some surprising discoveries about herself, both in the 'chat room' and in real life.

The author could easily expand this plot, and present the book, at a higher reading level, to a more general audience, because this is a 'hot' topic.

I picked this book up really randomly at the library. The book in itself had a great message. It talked about how you can’t truly know someone on the internet and that you can’t judge a book by it’s cover. I thought that the author could have elaborated a little more on this. I felt like the book was a bit rushed, it defiantly could have been longer. I also couldn’t connect to the main character, I felt a insta love type thing going on. I also felt like she was mean to her friend for no reason at all. All and all I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in a fast read and thinks they would like this book based on it’s content.

Another solid high interest/low reading level book for grades 7-12. Linda has few friends at Wellington High School. When the high school launches chat rooms on the site, Linda decides to check them out. She soon becomes absorbed in the characters and conversations online. One chatter who goes by the name of Cyrano particularly catches Linda's attention and inspires her to register as Roxanne. Soon, she becomes an active participant as Roxanne. An interesting story with some good lessons to be learned without sounding at all preachy.

I finished this in about half an hour. The premise is interesting enough, and it's something I can relate to, but the book erred in the big "reveal" and lost sight of any integral message it was trying to put out. Instead it opted for a cliched "don't judge a book by its cover" ending. Not really worth reading to the end; it'd be more interesting to just read halfway and imagine the rest yourself.

I read a short book called Chat Room by Kristin Butcher. In this book there is a really shy girl at school and people dont even notice her. When a student in the school sets up a chat room she decides to join in. Then she starts becoming popular on-line but with a different name. The chat room is over taking her life that she wont even tell her friends or parents about the chat room. I recommend that you read this book you will be shocked of what happens.

I think a lot of people can make connection to this book. It talks about how the internet affect people and how people started to meet people from the internet in the real world. It's a very dangerous thing because you just recognize them from the internet. They can act to be a certain character and you just didn't noticed that.

Linda wanted to who Cyrano was in a chat room(nickname). She probably wanted to know who Cyrano was because a movie had a nice guy name Cyrano who helps write for a guy so the guy can give it to a girl named Roxane. Linda probably thought that Cyrano was a nice guy.
