Dane hasn’t spoken with his mother in years and he’s never met his father. But somehow his mother finds out about Mercury and the kits anyway, and it’s difficult to throw one’s mother out when she happens to be a powerful, dangerous witch.

She isn’t the only uninvited guest, and the others are even less likely to take no for an answer—and much more likely to leave everyone dead if they don’t get what they want.

It has been a year since Dane, Mercury, and the Dragon kits had any unusual excitement, but that is all about to change. Houseguests- unexpected and possibly unwanted, but most definitely dangerous- invade their home. It takes family togetherness to meet the new challenge.

This is the third installment in the Supernatural Consultant series and I get so excited now to see the latest release because I know the fun, excitement, intrigue, and a bit of passion I get with each book. I wouldn't recommend taking these out of order as there is a back history and assumption that the reader already knows the ongoing situation. Besides, these are fantastic, why miss out.

So, Dane and Mercury and the kits are going along the usual lines with family chores, togetherness, household accidents, and fun in the snow, when their peace is broken by an unexpected visit from Dane's mother. He has been estranged from her for a long time mostly because she is a controlling, manipulative witch who preferred him under her thumb. Uh, I did mean that all quite literally.

Mercury and the kits aren't sure what to think of this. Dragons aren't used to having extended family connections like in-laws and grandparents though Mercury is doing his best to change things for his own family of kits. Dane has never spoken of his mother and Mercury is pretty sure he knows why now. It's like armed neutrality in their home though the kits teach dear grandma a lesson about dragons and it is fun to watch. Mercury gets the opportunity to train another in dragon parenting even as he ponders the dynamics in his relationship with Dane as his partner and lover and as they share parenting. When the danger threatens, Mercury is more than ready to protect the home and family that mean everything to him.

A group of unexpected visitors arrive that leave Dane, Mercury, and the kits on edge. Someone has tried to set Dane up and their plotting continues forcing Dane to figure out what is going on quickly. Is it a rival territory leader? Is it the scientists who want the dragons? Or is a whole other player on the scene now? His family is in danger and the usual calm Dane shows a side that is terrifying to anyone seeking to hurt what is his.

I love how each book focuses on this group as a family. It is one of the most unique Urban Fantasy series that I have seen. The world has all sorts of supernaturals, but these stories focus on Dane, a demigod and the dragons who are his family. There is action, there is intrigue, but there is mostly humor, family life, and the occasional private moment for the guys (if the kits are out of trouble long enough).

Dane and Mercury both work in supernatural policing with Dane's work being private consulting and Mercury for the governments' department. But this one didn't spotlight their work so much this time until the second half of the story. The trouble starts out in-house so to speak and eventually leads to trouble from without as well.

The seven dragon kits are growing up and the oldest three are teenagers with the youngest now five. I like how the author advances the story so its another place in the family's life when the next installment comes out. This particular installment focuses on the mother in law visit for Mercury, troublesome mother-son relations for Dane, and the kits delight in having a grandma and teaching her how to behave around dragons. I couldn't keep back the chuckles when this stern, cold, controlling witch meets her match in the young ones and gains an appreciation for her son by watching him and his partner in action. Wonder if the father in law will drop in next or maybe Mercury's side of the family will make things interesting...

It was a fast and fun read. Can't wait for the next story. I just love the warm, light, heartwarming these stories are told. I would recommend them to M/M Urban Fantasy lovers, but it has to be those who can appreciate something light and full of family, too.

My thanks to Less Than Three Press for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

I adore these dragons.

Another interesting addition to this series.

It was a little hard for me to keep everyone straight in my head. At times this story felt confused and disjointed. I still find ages and strength of the magics seem to vary depending on circumstances for example But maybe I'm just looking for too much perfection.

But niggles aside I love these kits especially Nickel, Alloy and my absolute fave Lumie.

Damn, I love reading about their crazy family. The stories are simple, short and easy to read, but also really entertaining and sweet (with a violent edge). This story takes place one year after the previous one and more characters get introduced.

Dragon Dilemma
Supernatural Consultant Book 3
by Mell Eight

★★★★★
118 Pages
3rd person, dual character POV
Themes: LGBT, Romance, Magic, Found Family
Triggers: off-page kidnap of child dragons, mentions of experimentation of child dragons
Genre: MM Romance, Urban Fantasy

Dragon Dilemma is the third book in the Supernatural Consultant series and takes place a year after the events of the previous book.

Dane and Mercury are still very much trying to find the leader of the group of government facilities that are capturing and experimenting on dragon children. Mercury is still working with Valerie at the FBSI, while trading parental duties with Dane. Together, they're learning what works best for their family. We do get to see, for the first time, that they have their struggles with this.

There are a few flashback/memories that show it hasn't always been an easy ride – that Dane has sometimes made the wrong choice as a parent, that their magical ability/power creates a discrepancy between them that sometimes leaves Mercury feeling left out or not as useful. I loved those little moments of realistic family life.

All the kits are still in full attendance, and all the usual characters are on page, with the exception of Dane and Mercury's work colleagues, as the events of this book takes place over a short period of time when they're both off work. So while Valerie isn't on page, she's mentioned, and the same goes for Daisy and Becky, Dane's work colleagues.

There are new characters included in this book, some of whom may be important in later stories. Three territory leaders appear: Henri, Jessica and William. They're a vampire, witch and unknown entity respectively, but Dane knows them all to a varying degree. As a territorial issue has arisen, they've come to consult with Dane – some more accusatory than consulting. They all have their secrets and problems, but William's is interesting as he's recently found two kit dragons and taken them in, introducing Aqua and Rios, two water dragons to the growing number of baby dragons caught up in the ring of government facilities, though it's not known whether they were victims or merely abandoned by their parents.

The biggest new addition to characters is Kendra, Dane's mother, who also goes by the moniker of the Isle Crone. She's highly interesting, with a snobby British sensibility, and has a rocky relationship with Dane, due to her stern nature and abrasive personality. Weirdly, she fits right in.

As before, I have to admit that of all the kits in the family, Nickel and Lumie are my favourites, although I do have a soft spot for Alloy as well. They're the main kits, who are most experienced, most interesting, and with the strongest abilities. I also really liked the progression of their abilities. With Alloy and Lumie being so young, there's so much scope for growth, and we're told that Alloy has the most unpredictable powers, with a few incidents mentioned in the past.

I found the story to be a great continuation of the previous two, adding new characters and events to the growing plot, while also staying true to the events and characterisation. The world-building is growing at a reasonable, logical rate, always adding more to the complex world and situation the characters have found themselves in. I'm looking forward to the next instalment.

Originally published on my blog: Nonstop Reader.

Dragon Dilemma is the third novella in a fantasy M/M series by Mell Eight. Originally published in 2016, this reformat/re-release is due out 20th July 2020 from NineStar Press, it's 107 pages and will be available in ebook format.

This installment sees the series progressing with more world building and magic systems, new characters, and still featuring a demigod paranormal investigator (Dane) and his partner bronze dragon dad Mercury + their non-traditional family unit. It's sweet and lightly humorous and full of romance. It's not erotica, there's no on-screen physical descriptions apart from a few passionate kisses and a lot of soulful longing (and the fact that they share a bedroom).

It's very light, the characters are anthropomorphic fantasy creatures, there are a whole bunch of young dragons whom foster dad Mercury has adopted/rescued from evil humans experimenting on them in an earlier book in the series. Just add magic and stir.

Very clean content, a few "damn"s, one "shit" and nothing worse.

The author writes clearly, readably, and well. It's above average for the genre (paranormal romance).

Four stars.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Mercury and Dane mostly have their dragon kits under control. Mostly. When Dane’s mother descends on the family it’s all hands on deck to show her they are a family. The kits manage take some of the starch out of her sails. When more uninvited guest show up they bring danger with them.

The dragon inhabitants of the world created by this author are delightful. This book finally gave me the story I’ve been waiting for. The time jump wasn’t as drastic this time and the backstory was more filled in. The descriptions of the kits, and their fathers seemed more real in this outing.

All the Kits shine but Lumie as usual steals the show. Although Nickel might to be a force to be reckoned very soon.

It’s been too long since I read the last story in this series full of dragon shifters and their magic, witches, half gods, and evil scientists out to harness the dragons’ powers for nefarious purposes. Dane (half god and in charge of a supernatural detective agency) and his partner Mercury (dragon shifter and SupFed working with the FBSI) are raising the seven dragon kits they rescued from the labs amid a lot of mayhem such a varied group can cause. I loved finding out about their newest adventures, of which Dane’s mother (a powerful witch) visiting was only one. Mell Eight’s alternate reality enchanted me all over again as I took in the newest revelations, action, and mischief caused by all the kits.

It’s a year after Dragon Deception and life in the Northeast territory is anything but quiet. Unless of course pancakes are about to be served, then silence can be deafening (laugh). Mell Eight needs to serve pancakes at my house when I get up to get my cats to be quiet.

This is a quieter mystery as there is plenty of in-house drama with Dane’s mother’s visit. There are also flashes into the past, but this could be because of something else in the house. (No spoilers here - laugh).

The kits are definitely involved in some of the fun and action. There are some funny moments between the kits and their new “grandmother”. Eight also introduces some of the other territory leaders who are to say the least interesting.

I am curious to see if William and Nickel’s relationship goes anywhere. (Things that make you go “hmmmm…”.) There was no mention of Goldie in this story, but plenty of mentions of Lumie going to the village. Mercury is still partnered with Valerie - yay!

As I said earlier, this is a quieter mystery. The story focuses on the family and their period of growth. Eight has left so many interesting things open that I cannot wait to see what happens next.

I received an ARC of this book and I am writing a review without prejudice and voluntarily.

I‌‌ ‌‌received‌‌ ‌‌a‌‌ ‌‌copy‌‌ ‌‌of‌‌ ‌‌Dragon Dilemma ‌‌by‌‌ Mell Eight ‌‌via‌‌ ‌‌IndiGo‌‌ ‌‌Marketing‌‌ ‌‌&‌‌ ‌‌Design‌‌ ‌‌in‌‌ ‌‌exchange‌‌ ‌‌for‌‌ ‌‌an‌‌ ‌‌honest‌‌ ‌‌review.‌‌‌ ‌‌‌One of the things I enjoy about this series is the way the author combines scenes and storylines set in the home ‌life of Dane, Mercury, and their dragon kits with the overarching plotline of finding the villains who kidnap dragons. The story was fun because we got to meet Dane’s mother who turns out to be a decent person after all, which I did not expect since Dane has been estranged from her for a while. He did leave Great Britain to avoid her and her plans. It is entertaining to see the kits growing up too. A fun series!

Still loving this series, along with Mercury and Dane’s adorable kits. There wasn’t as much of a time-span between Dragon Dilemma and Dragon Deception as there was between the first two books, so the littlest dragons in the family are still just as mischievous. (FYI – Lumie is still my favorite ❤ )

Things seem to have calmed down a bit since readers last spent time with this family, but it’s still chaotic. Dane and Mercury have fallen into a natural routine and seem to have things in control, well at least as much control that’s possible with a house full of energetic, unpredictable kits. They’re definitely not in control enough to host a stay with Dane’s prim, proper, powerful and dangerous mother, but they have no choice when she shows up unannounced. The interactions between her and her son’s family were tense, yet priceless.

The other visitors were just as unpredictable and also came unannounced. Their agenda was uncertain, but they definitely had one. It was really hard to sort out the “bad guys” from the “good guys” in Dragon Dilemma and that alone kept the pages turning. This one was just as short as the previous books in the Supernatural Consultant series, but it definitely wasn’t lacking.

The next book in the series moves away from the relationship between Mercury and Dane, but focuses on Nickel. Dragon Detective is next and I can’t wait to spend more time with this lovable crew.

I received Dragon Dilemma in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This was a wonderful third installment in the Supernatural Consultants series and a great return to the story of Mercury and Dane as they continue to try and create a safe and loving home for the rescued kits. It's not easy, they are inundated with uninvited guests with hidden agendas. All in all an enjoyable addition to the series, I can't wait to read book four which follows Nickel.

I love this series and I liked this book.
Even if it's engrossing and entertaining I found it sometimes a bit too slow.
It was great to meet again the characters and I appreciated the plot.

Entertaining, although I could have done with less details albout kits doing chores. The family takes the front seat. And I won't reread this just to avoid the repetition of the term 'stench of tainted magic'.
Again, awful naration, but doable.

Another adorable book in the Supernatural Consultant series!

I adore the world that the author has created, an almost-urban-fantasy setting, but with a much brighter world view. Not everything is perfect, of course, and there is definitely evil, but there is a sense of lightness and hope that makes this feel more like a full fantasy novel. The dragon kits are adorable and by this point, they pretty much all have distinct personalities. I love that we are getting more of them as they grow.

Dane's mother is a new character for us, as she has come to visit her son, his new partner, and their dragon children. She is a fabulous character, very strict and proper, and incredibly intimidating. But she also makes adjustments for the kits, which was heartening. I hope we get more of her in the future!

Same with William, the territory leader for Canada. He is fascinating! Intimidating and ruthless, we also see a softer (though dangerously protective) side of him. I do hope we get to hear his story at some point.

So the only reason this isn't getting all 5 stars is because of it's length. This, like the books before it, is a novella, telling only a portion of the story of Dane, Mercury, and the dragon kits. While I have no problems with novellas, I think this particular series would be better as a single volume - they are all working from the same over-arching nemesis, the lab that is both experimenting on dragons as well as imbuing humans with powers that aren't their own.

On a side note, I'm also not sure how much time has passed in the stories. I think it was 5 years between books 1 and 2, but I'm not sure where exactly book 3 falls. Has it been over 5 years, and Dane never told his mother that he had kits now? I know they aren't close, but that seems a bit much.

3.5 stars.

I love this series. It’s so cute, so easy to read and is a perfect tonic to less than perfect days. I know when I pick one up I’m going to get a little bit of exasperated Dane, some amused Mercury and plenty of dragon kit cuteness. Which is exactly what I got here.

Much though I enjoyed the last book, I missed spending time with this highly unusual family, so I was delighted by the fact the action rarely leaves Dane’s house here. All the kits are featured, and though I missed more Lumie time (because I am never satisfied) I loved getting to see more of Nickel and see how he’s maturing ahead of the others.

Because this is so short, though, the plot felt a little loose, with the reason for his mother’s visit feeling flimsy at best. As for the other mystery guests… hm. That definitely would have benefited from being a little longer and having more depth, because it felt a little predictable to me. I do, however, like William and find his addition to this series most intriguing.

Overall this was light and fun and easy and a nice addition to the series. There are a few cute scenes between Dane and Mercury, cementing their bond a little, there’s plenty of kit action and a few hints here and there that fill in some gaps about both Dane and Mercury’s ages and pasts. If you’re looking for something cute and enjoyable, that definitely won’t make you think too much and is much more likely to make you smile, give this a go, though I would recommend starting from the beginning of the series. I’m loving these books so far and will definitely keep my eye out for more.

Dane doesn't get along with his parents. He hasn't spoken with his mother in years
and he's never met his father. Somehow his mother finds out about Mercury and the kits
anyway, and it's difficult to throw one's mother out when she happens to be a powerful,
dangerous witch.
She isn't the only uninvited guest either, and these ones are even less likely to take
no for an answer—and much more likely to leave everyone dead if they don't get what
they want.

Summary:
Once again I was captivated by each and everyone of Dane and Mercury's kits. From their individual personalities to their unique abilities, they take center stage for everyone who meets them. Even Dane's mother who is a force to be dwelt with herself doesn't have a clue on how to deal with them. Mercury and Dane's love is apparent in how they treat each child individually while giving them the love a security they need. There is never a dull moment in the paranormal worlds as forces from without tests Dane and Mercuries strength to keep their family and friends safe. I for one can't wait to see what will happen next in this wonderful series.

Ah, book three of Mell Eight's Dragon Consultant series. Dane, Mercury and their brood of kids are back! This time...here comes the in-laws. Dane's mama isn't very nice, but I like how throughout all the drama, Dane and his true family, Mercury and the kits, stuck together. I love how protective they are of each other.

There's humor, drama, magic, shifting and family togetherness. The kits are all growing up and it's great that I've been reading the series since the first book was published. Looking forward to the next installment.

Rating: 4.25 stars out of 5
For the full review, visit http://wp.me/p220KL-8jK on 9/27

from that review: "With each new story, the author adds to her world building, the circle of associates and friends that surround Dane, Mercury and their kits, and the bigger mystery of the evil behind the abduction and experimentation on the dragon children. Eight both satisfies our needs to rediscover and enjoy meeting this family again but prods us towards the next in the series with a curiosity born a little out of fear for some of our favorite characters. Its a perfect balancing act and one she accomplishes in a fairly quick read."

Once again, Mell Eight delivers a too cute for words tale about Dane and Mercury and their large family of adopted dragon kits.

This third installment of the series veers away slightly from the “Quicksilver” storyline, and instead we are introduced to some other major players in the paranormal community. One of whom is Dane’s super witch mother, who turned up uninvited to meet her son’s new family.

As with any book in this series, our two main characters are under threat although, by whom, is the question. As always, the kits play a huge role in the story, so if books with children aren’t your thing, then this series may not be for you. But come on, dragon children…could there be anything cuter?

I’ve enjoyed all of the books in this series but was especially appreciative that this book stayed focused on the family, rather than spend time on the police work of the second book. Having said that, I loved the second book, but I absolutely can’t get enough of reading about these dragon kits and their very patient fathers interacting with each other and, in this book, with their uninvited guests.

This series should only be read in order. There are a lot of characters to remember, but as most of them are children there’s really no difficulty in keeping them all sorted in your head.

If you have yet to read a book by Mell Eight and you like cute and sweet, then this is the series to begin with. I get so excited every time I see another of these books pop up in the coming soon lists, because sometimes we just need a big dose of happy into our day, and I know that I’m guaranteed to be left with a smile after reading any book in the Supernatural Consultant series.

A further year on, Lumie is still my favourite.
Daisy definitely deserves a medal for looking after Dane, Mercury and the kits and her own family.
We don't get any closer to finding out who is using dragon's to get the rogue magic but it does all come a bit closer to home.
The workings of territories and their boundaries are explained when a few of the other leaders think Dane has been encroaching on their territory - queue confrontations and the uncovering of nefarious plots. Though Jessica was raising red flags to me with her lack of concern.
Nickel continues to prove his worth and he is wise beyond his years.
I've enjoyed reading these stories much to my surprise - they are about the forming of a family unit in its various forms.
Off to get the next book now.

This is where the book quality gets a significant improvement from the first two books and its great.
The balance between plots and subplots have improved greatly and overall increases the book reading experience for me.
I love the addition of Kendra but, I wish she got to do more. It seemed she was a bit of a "lazy catalyst" and an attempt at red herring but, her involvement wasn't expanded enough for any of her actions to really mean anything. Plus what she could do with memories pretty much fell to the ground in how that could have been utilized in the story better.
I still enjoyed this book and was glad that the story has been engaging enough for me to keep reading this series.

Loved it because of the writing, story and characters - hated it because it ended too soon. Mell Eight's writing drags me into the story and then pushes me out before I'm ready to go. I need long novels from this author.
