Blood Mafia #2

Blood Taken

Escape from the vampires, they said. It’ll be fun, they said.

They lied.

Nothing is fun about coming home to your estranged mother, especially when she lied, too.

She’s here now though, promising to teach me about my past and keep me safe from the Blood Mafia.

I can only hope they don’t find me, because when they do, well...

Best not to think about that

Okay, maybe I did lie a little bit in my review of that werewolf book last week. Deep down, in my heart and soul, I'm still a vampire girl. I don't know what it is, but vampires give me a certain kind of thrill. As if they're somehow more dangerous and lethal. As if they're somehow more seductive too. There is something about vampires that makes me very aware that they are the wrong kind of people to fall in love with and yet I'm falling anyway.

I really love the mythology in this vampire book. And maybe not especially the vampire mythology, although that one is cool too, but probably even more the hunter mythology and their place in this supernatural world. In this book we get to see more of how the hunters live, what their ethics are, what their powers and talents are and how their society works. Luckily it's not the entire book, because at some point I started to miss the vampires. I wasn't the only one though.

This book really plays with our hearts, and the hearts of Demi and her three vampires, in the most delicious way. For a part of this book there's this longing for them, for their reunion, even though we all know it's gonna be explosive and ugly and not healthy at all. However, the wait is so incredibly worth it. Just like the wait for Demi's powers to awaken was really worth it. What a glorious scene was that, how incredibly satisfying and how amazing that this completely levels the playing field, if that was even needed to begin with.

Demi might be one of the most awesome characters I've ever read about. Yes, she knows how to fight and she has some supernatural powers to help her with it, but it's more than that. She's brutal, she's brave, she's daring. She's the kind of character I secretly want to be, but can never be because I simply lack the guts. And yes, her relationship with the guys it not exactly healthy, on all possible fronts and in all possible ways, but it's so addictive and alluring and amazingly well done.

I'm excited about the next book, especially because I have the feeling things are really gonna explode. Maybe quite literally.

Blood Taken is the second installment of the Blood Mafia series. In it, we get to know more about Demi and her family. At least for a little bit. We knew that she was a hunter in the previous book but we get a little reunion with her mother in this one. Which, yikes, it was all kinds of awkward. Also, the hunters are huge assholes - I'm looking at you Daniel and Gerry.

Other than that, the vampire guys are not a fan of her leaving him. So I was very excited when they were all reunited. Mostly because I just want them to get closer and give me those sexy scenes I've been demanding. Ya know.. without the stabbing after the happy ending. Again, just saying.

Now this didn't shy away from the drama and I'm still super suspicious of certain people. I'm not a fan of certain kidnappings right now so I have no idea what the next book will give me. I'm just hoping that Demi doesn't get betrayed by certain people but I'm also super excited for the bond between her and Matteo, Grayson, and Colt to get stronger.

So in other words - I'm diving into the next book now!

So book 2 in this series is just as good as book one. Demi is seriously the best with her snarky kick ass personality.

There weren't as many LOL moments with this book, but enough to keep me happy. New characters are introduced, with new twists to the plot. A secret from Demi's past is revealed. I knew the secret would change the dynamics of the story. Most importantly it would change the relationship Demi had with the vampires. So invested with all the new developments, I found it very difficult to put the book down. Oh, and it ends on a frustrating cliffhanger. RRRRGG!!! Glad I didn't have to wait for the next book or else the frustration would have lasted for months.

I don't understand when a story introduces a plot line only to immediately resolve or abandon it. Was there a point there? This happens at the beginning of the book and was a bit frustrating, but I was happy to see Demi with the guys again. Their relationship really escalated in this one and I liked seeing them strengthen their bonds.

We learned more about hunters and Demi's past in this which was nice. I've been wanting to see exactly what hunters can do and it's pretty cool! Demi makes some hunter friends too and anyone on her side is great. I have a feeling she'll need all the allies she can get for the last book.

If I thought I couldn't like Demi any more than I did in the first book, I was wrong. Demi learns exactly who she is in this book and she grows even more badass. Man, it was such a fun book to read. She puts the boys in their places many times over and it is just so hilarious to read about.

The action in the books seems to pick up, but at the same time seems stagnant? I'm not entirely sure why I feel that way. But I do, still loved the story though.

These cliffhanger endings

I think I would be pulling my hair out if I had to wait for the next novel. As the first, this novel was really fun. I love that the heroine does not hesitate to break a neck with her "I warned you" attitude, but doesn't do so arbitrarily. Her sarcasm is very well balanced in the story, too. I haven't really warmed up to the hunters yet, but I'm hoping that will change in the next novel. Right now, I'm on the same page as Colt with them.

I honestly didn’t think it was possible, but this second book of the series not only met the challenge of being as good as the first, but surpassed it! Demi is my favorite homicidal
b!tch! I love her, stab first, ask questions later, ball crushing mentality! I absolutely love the dynamics between Demi and the guys and loved how their relationships progressed in this book! I also love Evelyn and Alissa, as well as all the new characters. This is an amazing read and so dang hard to put down. The storyline is packed full of action, intrigue, suspense, surprises, and so much sexiness! Definitely a Must Read! I cannot wait for the next book, I need it now!

Blood Taken is the second book in Rory Miles Blood Mafia series and picks up where book one left off. Things are going to get steamy, crazy, and really complicated. So buckle up and get ready.
Blood Taken is the second book that I’ve read by Rory Miles and I have to say that overall I enjoyed the story. The author gives readers a nice balance of characters in this book and each shift in perspective is clearly identified so I know who the main focus is at the time. The author throws in quite a few surprises surrounding Demi and her vampire men. I enjoy a good backstory so when I’m given some filling me on why certain situations happened, I’m absolutely thrilled. Of course, the more we’re given the more complicated things become and I can’t help but think…oh boy, where is all of this going to lead? There is quite a bit of steamy in this book as well. So much fun to read. I like the twists and turns the most though.
Now, the author writes Demi as being a really “sarcastic” character. I would like the sarcasm to be more balanced. As the story is written it’s a bit too heavy handed with the “sarcasm.” Half the time Demi is honestly just a hypocrite with a bad attitude. In certain scenes it honestly fits and rolls well with the story, but in others she’s just irritating. I really feel that the author is trying to give her a Harley Quinn personality half the time. It fits until it doesn’t because then it becomes a stretch. I never like when a book is too heavy handed on the scales of “things going the MC’s way” and this book is no exception. I question what is the point of certain moments at times. A prime example is Demi “training” with Alissa. She’s faster and stronger than Alissa once she comes into her Hunter abilities, so why keep sparring with her when it’s obviously not a challenge? It’s obviously not helping Alissa so it’s a defeatist situation and has no real point or purpose.
When the author threw in a “percentage” into this book near the beginning I nearly howled, but I’m so glad that there weren’t any further insertion of random numbers. Authors should only insert percentages if their character is an analytical type and thinks things threw. THAT is not Demi on any level. Sorry not sorry. The first half of this book is “angry, overly mouthy, murdering” Demi. Thankfully, the second half of this book mellows out. I’m hopeful that in the next book that Demi will rely less on her new supe abilities and will start using her brain more.
I’m rating this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. I’m taking off half a star because there is a fine line between “brat” and “sarcasm” and the author really has Demi playing jump rope with that line but stays more on the “brat” side of things in my opinion. There’s “I’ll take no guff” and then there’s “pot meet kettle now shut up” and there was a lot of “pot meet kettle” but Demi wanting to act like she’s not in the wrong. I enjoyed the storyline though and I look forward to what comes next. Enjoy the ending. I honestly always smile when someone gets a taste of their own medicine.

I won’t repeat the happy rants from the previous book, but: holy shit that ending again!

While book one was mainly focused on Demi‘s kidnapping and her learning about her powers, the second gives us more of the relationship between her and her three vampires (it really would be hard for me to pick a favorite at this point, thank God she doesn’t have to choose, either). We get to know more of her Hunter-background, but thankfully without info-dumps. I love how she embraces her stabby side and good for the kill (literally) and I really like how she doesn’t make it too easy for the guys. And again, more than once she had me cheering along.

We get even more girlfriends (I love X), can’t wait to see how all of this continues (did I mention the cliffhanger? Again, I’m happy I didn’t start the series before all the books are out 😂)

My feelings:

Oh what a guilty pleasure this series is. Totally not what I read or enjoy but I gobbled it up!

We don't own you, but you're our person. You are the one we have chosen to enter into an unbreakable bond with.”

Massive weak spot for vampire romance!

I know those are typically only for men, but this is the era of feminism. If a bitch can't have all the dicks, why even bother?

Mateo, Colt and Greyson are such a vibe! I want me some strong alpha men! Shesh
Loved this series and highly recommend.

What a wild ride and it only keeps going! Can't wait for the next book.

If you haven't read the first book, please do! This all begins with her stabbing colt and running away from her delicious three men, where she runs headfirst straight into new troubles, and a new group of people. Love Demi's personality and craziness. Ends on a huge cliffhanger that leaves you with a jaw dropped!!

Meh 2.75 stars

I kind of lost interest in this one, and the only reason I'll grab the next installment is because of the ending. Once again, the last scene is the best part of the book.

I wish we had gotten to learn more from Demi's time with the Hunters. It feels like that was a great opportunity to add some depth to the plot and characters, but it's just kind of flashed over. Demi us suddenly all cuddly and sweet with the Blood Mafia, and it doesn't ring true, especially after we learn how bloodthirsty she could be at the end of book one.

I can’t get enough of the Blood Mafia. This book makes the series so much more complex by the addition of the Hunters. I also like to see all of the different relationships that are building from the main characters to even the secondary ones. I can’t wait the read what comes next.

When Blood Owed ended, I was blind-sided and itching to get Blood Taken ASAP to find out how things resolved. This afternoon when I started reading Blood Taken I was happily surprised and tickled at all the new developments. When I finished Blood Taken less then 10 minutes ago, I was once again flabberghasted and am trying to convince myself that if I write the best review EVER maybe just possibly Rory Miles will relent and release Blood Bound faster than March of next year. Seriously, read this series. You'll thank me, and then we can all hang together in our frustration as we wait for March!

Demi (FMC) goes from one bad situation to another in book 2 in this series. Finding out more about her hunter background brings her face to face with her mother & on the run from the Vampires (Mateo, Colt & Grayson) after getting a little stab happy with Colt in book 1. Except things dont go exactly to plan. Wise - cracks, plenty of action and lots of steam. Im just loving this series so much. Demi is smart a**** and kick*** too. You cant help but like her. Her little hunter group of friends are a great addition too. Ah Zander......... cant wait to read more about him. My god that ending though?? Words fail me!! Ill be on tenterhooks until the next book now. So good

Demi turns 25 and is given the opportunity to learn about what she can do when her estranged mother reappears. The stakes in the supernatural world begin to rise as things start happening. Can Demi’s new supe abilities prepare her for what’s to come?

OKAY OKAYOKAY OKAY SUFHSFHB!!&@#%$% I am FREakIng OUT! Ugh these books are SO good. I’m really enjoying them and I'm so sad there is only one more after this! I’m stuck between wanting it to just be the next instalment so I have lots to look forward to, and wanting it to be the last book so I don’t have to wait for the inevitable epic resolution.
In this book Demi gets more of her own support system separate from the vamps which I think is good for her as a main character. I ALWAYS see these MCs in books that are supposed to be these awesome badasses but then the authors have them just completely enfolded into their love interest’s life and have no life of their own. I like seeing that even though Demi is firmly in their fold, she still has this element of independence and has stuff that is just hers.
Anywhoodles, this book was fantastic. The relationships gain more clarity and are further developed, Demi gets the chance to learn more about who and what she is, and her badass-edness grows ten-fold. We got new characters, and I got all the resolution I needed over the ending of the last book but of course I am now waiting for the resolution over the little cliff-hanger we got from this one. Now, same as the last one I definitely recommend this book! The stakes are rising and the big epic conflict is being prepared for us which I'm super excited about. I honestly don’t have any complaints about this book! (Except Daniel and Gerry - Bleh)

My 5 Favourite Things;
*The Maria bombshell!?!? You go Rory! (Apparently i’ve decided we’re on a first name basis now?)
*The Hunters’ Tenets (the main rules on who they kill not the other bs)
*EVELYN
*Demi picking the ‘g’ knives for training
*Some queer rep!!

I'll be blunt - it's not my fav. As I mention in my review of Book 1:

It still rings of similar vibes to [Kristy] Cunnings ["All the Pretty Monsters" series], which I begrudgingly finished. (Though if you liked them, you'd like these). However, there's just something about edgy, quick to anger, and, frankly, Mary Sue heroines that I just don't vibe with. Plus, Mateo is a jerk all the way through, while the other 2 guys are forgiven like, way to easy. The smut is meh at best. The cliffhangers honestly feel so out of place, even for cliffhangers.

Ultimately, I won't be finishing the series.

Book 2 isn't much better. Sure, we have new mysteries added on, but very very little in the way of character development... which is extra frustrating because we keep adding new side characters and dumping other ones until they're convenient. The character conflicts we do have have boiled down to posturing and [idle] threats. *yawn*

Absolutely no romance is being explored, yet Demi just decides, "Hey I'm totally okay with a pet bond even though, like, a few chapters ago, it infuriated me. I am Hunter; I ain't need no man, except oops my panties are wet. Guess I'll do a total 180 on everything I stood for in Book 1".

idk, maybe it's just me, but I'm not vibing with plot, characters, or romance. The Book 2 cliffhanger felt like random and, honestly, I kinda don't care what happens next.

This was probably more of a 3.5 rating, but I rounded up to four. I enjoyed this this, but it took awhile for me to get into it unlike the first one. What can I say, I’m a vampire girl and without them all together it was hard to keep reading. Once I got to a certain point in the book, I zoomed through it and it made the first part worth reading just for their reunion.
Demi learns who she is, but she is still trying to figure out who she belongs with. I loved seeing Demi kick butt with her hunter abilities and knocking some people down a peg or two. I feel like the guys grew a lot within this book and it was nice seeing another side of them and learning more about their past. Along with Alissa and Evelyn being my favorite side characters, I also added X and Tyra. I enjoy the banter and humor that they add to the story.
I liked that the world has opened up more and that we learn more of its history. It was nice to learn more about Demi’s kind and see how they live even though that part of the book wasn’t my favorite. I don’t feel that it ended on a huge cliffhanger, but I do want to see what happens next and how Demi reacts to what was done.

The hunter full of rage and affinity for stabbing is back, and brings more drama with her than before.
After stabbing Colt, Demi managed to escape the Blood Mafia, only to be taken by her mother and her friend to the Hunters, her own kind, albeit estranged. But her place among the hunters isn't granted, and maybe staying with the vampires is still the better choice. However, the other supernatural races also have their own agendas, and the next war might be closer than it looks.
Even though Demi is still full of rage and her violent streak remains her dominant characteristic, she reveals a little bit of softer center on occasion. Especially as her relationships with the vampires develop, but also by a single bonding moment with her birth mother, or by befriending some of the hunters. There is also more to Mateo, Colt, or Grayson revealed in this second book. As the romance gets more complicated, so does the story itself, and the drama escalates to the surprising end... that calls for a follow-up asap :D

*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

I am loving this series!! Demi is hilarious and really knows how to push things to the next level thanks to never being able to keep her mouth shut. We pick back up where the last book ended with her running away after stabbing Colt. Arriving back at her apartment she runs into a surprise pretty much being taken captive again only by the other side. This so does not work out too well for the long run making her easy to find by Mateo again. After going back things sure do change thanks to everything that happened. This all leads to an ending that had me rolling on the floor laughing even if it is another cliff hanger. It just fit so very well with the rest of the book that I loved it. If you like FMC that totally take over never backing down as well as the supernatural then you so have to read this. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.

I am a little bit torn. I like the world building, the overall story is interesting.
But.. some things just don't make any sense.
Demi is so powerful that she killed Mateo within seconds. But when her hunter friends join, one trained and with his full powers.. Demi is scared the vampires would kill him? Why aren't the vampires scared he will just kill everyone? And no one could stop him, since he bested Demi easily.
I really don't like it when characters become too powerful. And Demi doesn't seem to have a weakness. Besides her personality. And she doesn't seem to have any issues wielding this power.

Half the book felt like I read the exact same in book 1. The cliffhanger isn't good enough for me to start book 3.

Only refreshing thing is that she just agreed to the blood bound. Normally stories like this are a huge struggle for the MC and basically the whole plot of a book. Not here, she's just ok with it.

The smut is ok, but feels repetitive. As if the guys only have one move.
