Angie Taylor was out with her three friends for the night, wrapping up a good time when they are all taken. Angie is the only one who got out alive. What should have been an investigation into who too them turns into Angie being put in a mental hospital and the police believing she killed her friends.

Brenda Reynolds is an FBI agent for the VRST who believes there is more to Angie's case then what the police surmised. The only problem she has in figuring out what happened to Angie is Angie, she has not spoke since being admitted. Can Brenda come up with a plan to help Angie and figure out who is behind her abduction and friends murder?

I enjoyed this book. When reading a suspense/thriller I am always looking for a book that gives me pause so I can try and figure out what is going to happen. This book had quite a few twists, very good book.

Clear your schedule for the day when you plan to start reading this one! You won't be able to put it down!

Angie and a group of her friends are wanting to enjoy their last night of spring break. They go out to all the places where all the people are but Angie has this nagging feeling. Something's not right. A hot waiter passes by them handing out jello shots and her friends are all hands on grabbing those shots. Angie passes as she's the designated driver for the night. Before she knows it, she sees the waiter again, only this time in the back of her SUV with his gun pointed at the head of one of her friends. Angie is ordered to drive down a path that has only one end. A dead one.....

Angie escapes physically but the scars will remain forever. While spending some time in a mental hospital, she meets great people like Evelyn, Brenda, Jake, and Cody. Together, they form a bond that will help to bring justice to those that caused great harm to Angie and her friends.

Wow, this book has several twists and turns! It kept me on the edge of my seat and I wasn't able to put this book down until I finished it from the very beginning. I love the author's notes at the end of this book too, going over some safety tips while discussing how some of the scenarios came about for this book. I highly recommend this one and it's definitely in my top 3 for book of the year for 2022!!

DNF. I got as far as I could tolerate. So badly written. *Spoiler warning…
.

1) You know the saying “show don’t tell?” Well the first chapter is all tell and lacks detail. For example the killer kidnaps the main character and her three friends and instead of letting the scene play out, it says “he shouted and threatened them.” Seriously? What did he say? How did he threaten them? It’s that kind of writing that takes an exciting plot and makes it dull and boring.

2) So over-the-top. This girl gets kidnapped and taken into the Florida woods, she manages to escape and runs into, a swarm of mosquitoes, a swarm of bats, alligators and deadly snakes. Then when the cops come they arrest her, and in jail she gets attacked by a bunch of prostitutes for no reason then taken to a mental hospital because she won’t talk. Lol

3) Character actions make no sense. It goes into the killer’s pov and you find out that he is a slave to a wealthy prince who makes him kidnap women for him and he is afraid that his boss will be angry because “one got away.” So what does he do? He kills the three remaining girls in order to frame the girl who got away. That makes no sense. Why not just bring the three remaining girls to the Prince? The killer is then obsessed with looking for the runaway because he’s so angry that she got the best of him. So he kills three available women instead of bringing them to his master and then is obsessed with wasting time in getting the runaway who he “framed” and got arrested. Silly.

In another chapter it goes into the POV of a female detective who goes to get coffee and a donut (how cliche) at a convenience store. The store gets held up by gun toting teen. The detective smashes a bottle over his head but then lets him run out the door to escape and doesn’t even arrest him even though he stumbles and falls down twice. Then she takes his gun (which is evidence that was used in a crime) and stuffs it under the seat of her car. Huh?

4) Lack of research. The uniformed cop who arrested the main character later interrogates her. Since when do beat cops lead interrogations? And then after reading her Miranda rights, the MC asks for a lawyer but the cop goes on to push her to talk anyway. Anyone who has watched a Dateline episode knows all interrogation stops the minute a suspect asks for a lawyer. Anything said after that would not be admissible in court because it would be a violation of her Miranda rights. Just simple research would’ve told you that.

5) The MC spends at least 50% of the book in a hospital bed in a mental facility doing absolutely nothing. (I didn’t read past that). It goes into the detective’s pov and there’s several extra non-essential scenes where she talks to the doctor, then the nurse and then wants to talk to another hospital staff member who claims the MC finally spoke to a therapy dog that was brought in. At that point I skimmed to 50% and then deleted it from my kindle.

The author seriously needs a critique group and some alpha and beta readers to give feedback and help him. It doesn’t read like he had any of that.

The Girl Who Escaped is the latest thrilling read from Mark Nolan. This story is a bit of a spin-off from his Jake Wolfe series, but fans of Jake and Cody needn’t worry, these two fan favourites haven’t been put on the sidelines- as both return to play an important part in this new story.
You don’t have to have read the Jake Wolfe series in order to appreciate this book- but having said that, if you did happen to read the series first, then it would definitely give you an even greater appreciation of this story.
FBI Special Agent Brenda Reynolds is called in to investigate after the only survivor of a murder spree is left in a somewhat catatonic state, due to the trauma of the attack. She hasn’t spoken since the police arrived on the scene, and at present is the leading suspect in their investigation. Angie has been locked up in a psychiatric institution since her breakdown, and all efforts to communicate with her have failed. What can Brenda bring to the table to help get Angie talking again? It is crucial to the investigation to find out what happened on that dark and lonely road the night of the attack, so Brenda is willing to do whatever it takes to find out what happened, and hunt down the killer before more girls become victims. If that means bringing Jake and Cody on board, then she’s willing to work with them, even though they have a bit of a difficult past. With murder, kidnapped girls, obsession, danger, a game of cat and mouse, and plenty of twists- definitely made this an exciting read.
I can’t wait to see what Mr. Nolan does next!
Happy Reading!

Thank you, Mark Nolan!

The cover drew me in, the description hooked me and the first quick chapters reeled me in. Wow this moves fast!

Angie and her friends are partying it up on Spring Break when they all get car jacked and kidnapped. As the designated driver Angie is their only chance of survival. She survives a mosquitos, bats and snakes just to be found by police and arrested for murder. From sheer shock and stress she went mute and found herself in a mental hospital.

This is the story of two enemies who work with Angie to bring her attacker to justice and they will stop at nothing until Angie is safe. There are so many hurdles in this story and it moves so fast!

I’m giving it 4.5 stars because it was a really interesting read. It took me a minute to figure out Mark Nolan’s writing style. The ending was fulfilling but felt abrupt. It’s not the ending I wanted, but the ending I wanted would have been predictable and boring. So I certainly don’t hold that against the author. I absolutely loved the short chapters and how quickly the story moved. This was a great psychological thriller and had moments of K9 therapy/rescue, human trafficking and murder. If that’s your think you’ll want to snag this now!

Thank you to Book Sirens for an e-copy of this book! This is my honest review of “The Girl Who Escaped” by Mark Nolan.

A harrowing tale of bravery and survival amidst a series of life altering events. Angie, the main character, shows resilience and bravery through ordeal after ordeal. She goes from being an innocent college student to being thrown in the middle of a sinister plan that is much larger than her FBI victim advocate ever could have imagined. On top of her dire situation and false arrest, Angie manages to escape from a human trafficker, jailhouse bullies, and a sick and twisted hospital worker. Although it seems Angie will never find peace again, she is able to rely on her FBI advocate, lawyer, and canine therapy pals.

This is a page turning murder mystery with all the classic twists and turns you might expect. You are on the edge of your seat as you read through all the horrible actions of both law personnel and other bad actors. I quickly felt so horrible for Angie and her situation. You instantly bonded with her character and wanted her to find peace and happiness once again. Definitely a good read that will keep the detective in you riled up and ready to catch the bad guys.

I devoured this crime thriller in 2 days (don't tell my boss!). When a young girl is wrongly accused of killing her friends, the FBI's Victim Services Response Team (VSRT) and an ex-Marine turned attorney, and his former war-dog, Cody, are on the case! The story was full of intense drama and was obviously very well researched. I appreciated learning so much about some of the FBI's tools of the trade. Themes of human trafficking, trauma, mental health, PTSD, therapy dogs, animal-assisted therapy, are deftly woven to create a realistic and believable scenario. The author manages some humorous relief to the serious subject matter with witty banter throughout the story. Human trafficking is a real problem that is happening to people of all genders and ages. This story is not one that I will soon forget. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

The Girl Who Escaped was the first Mark Nolan book I’ve read and I look forward to catching up on what else I’ve been missing. This was one of those thrillers that hit the ground running and really pulled you in from the first few pages. I am someone that reads a synopsis, forgets all about it and reads the book blind… so this felt even more twisty to me than it probably did some. It was fast paced and a great book to end out my summer. I often found myself holding my breath, especially during the very early chapters. For those of you with a soft spot for animals, there’s even a dog in the storyline…
Overall, great plot, great characters and a great read.

Thoroughly Entertaining. This was such a clever and interesting book to read, and I was surprised at how quickly I read it. I’ve been a big fan of Mark Nolan’s work for a while now and I love his series on Jake Wolfe and his dog Cody. He’s such a clever dog, and Jake is not a man to be messed with. I really enjoyed the way this story started out. Angie really does go to hell and back. Prince Abbas is also a unique and interesting character. Really enjoyed it from start to finish.
Mark Nolan’s writing has really brought this story alive, and it’s certainly a book that I would strongly recommend. Well worth a read. 5/5 Star Rating

Non stop action from beginning to end!! Angie Taylor was the only one who escaped but was so traumatized she could not respond or speak for over a month. Meanwhile the police thought she had murdered her three friends. FBI Special Agent Brenda Reynolds of the VSRT along with a really nice nurse call in the only team who can possibly help her.

Will they be able to figure out who abducted the girls and bring the murderer to justice? Is there more to this then meets the eye?

The Girl Who Escaped by Mark Nolan
3 Stars

While on spring break, Angie and her three friends get kidnapped. Angie manages to escape but her friends are killed. She ends up in a psych ward framed for their murders. It’s a good plot but the book is a bit lacklustre. The story needed more depth. Everything is very surface. It’s a thriller but I never once felt an ounce of fear even when Angie was fighting off her attacker. Seeing as this happened at the beginning of the book, it should have gripped my attention but didn’t. I struggled to get into it. Once Jake and Cody entered the story, I found the book more interesting. I loved those two characters and they are what kept me reading.

The police didn’t even look at the evidence which clearly pointed to Angie being innocent. It didn’t make sense. There are multiple points of view which is fine but I found it made this story a bit all over the place. There was Angie, Jake, the killer, his boss (some prince), and a random slave on the boss’s island. It was a bit random. The author had some good ideas which could have been incredible had it been executed properly. It’s an interesting story if you want to pass the time but definitely not a gripping thriller.

Hey, book lovers! I'm back with another review of a book that blew my mind. It's called "The Girl Who Escaped" by Mark Nolan and is one of the best thrillers I've ever read. Trust me, you don't want to miss this one.

The story is about Angie and her college girlfriends who went to Florida for a fun Spring break. But their trip turned into a nightmare when a man hiding in their car kidnapped them and killed them all, except for Angie. Angie managed to escape, but she paid a high price. She ended up in a coma, haunted by the memories of her friends' deaths.

Enter Brenda Reynolds, a new agent for the FBI's Violent Crimes Response Team. She's assigned to Angie's case, and she has to find out if Angie is a victim or a killer. But she can't do it alone. She teams up with her friend Jake Wolf, a former soldier with a special bond with his retired war dog, Cody. Jake and Cody have a talent for finding danger and clues, and they join Brenda and Angie's nurse on a quest to discover the truth. But they soon realize that someone is trying to stop them, and they must face more than they expected.

What did I love about this book? Well, everything. Mark Nolan is a master of writing gripping and exciting books that keep you hooked until the last page. He knows how to create realistic and relatable characters, twisty and suspenseful plots, and satisfying and surprising endings. His book is the kind of book that makes you feel like you are part of the action and that stays with you long after you finish it. The bottom line is that you won't regret reading any of Mark's books.

Are you looking for an excellent book to read? Do you want to be entertained, engaged, and amazed? If so, you should check out Mark's books. He is a master storyteller who knows how to craft realistic people, exciting plots, and satisfying finales. His book is the kind of book that you can't put down until you finish it. The best part is that you will never forget his stories and characters. Trust me, you will love Mark's books.

THE GIRL WHO ESCAPED by Mark Nolan is a contemporary, adult, suspense thriller focusing on the hunt for a killer. THE GIRL WHO ESCAPED is a cross-over story line with the author’s JAKE WOLFE series.

Told from third person perspective THE GIRL WHO ESCAPED follows in the aftermath of the abduction of four college friends in Miami Florida: Angie Taylor escaped and her three friends are found murdered in the back of Angie’s car. Desperate for help, Angie Taylor flags down a police car heading towards the scene, only to find herself the lone suspect in the murder of her friends when she is found with a weapon, coated in blood. Arrested, incarcerated, and assaulted by the people left in charge, Angie withdraws into herself, refusing to speak or acknowledge anyone’s existence for the next several weeks. With the help of Evelyn, a concerned nurse, FBI Special Agent Brenda Reynolds of the VSRT (Victim Services Response Team) contacts former combat Marine, Above Top Secret Black Ops specialist and attorney Jake Wolfe, and his Marine IED detector dog Cody (Jake Wolfe series) when it is discovered that Angie comes to life with visiting therapy dog Waffles. With the help of Jake and Cody, Angie makes a slow but long overdue recovery, and helps in the search for clues to the man who killed her friends but there is something or someone more sinister behind the kidnappings and murder of Angie’s friends, and another search of the crime scenes reveals the possibility of several more abductions or murders in the area.

THE GIRL WHO ESCAPED is a story of power and control, betrayal and vengeance, desperation and obsession, drama and murder. The premise is dramatic, edgy and haunting but I struggled with some believability, and the amount of negligence at the hands of law enforcement and medical personnel involved in the case; the characters are animated and determined. At this point, I am going to presume THE GIRL WHO ESCAPED is the start of a new series featuring FBI Special Agent Brenda Reynolds as the story ends with Brenda heading to her next assignment.

I was gripped from start to finish by this crime, mystery thriller and found this story to be a real page turner. Angie Taylor was the only one of four college girls who were abducted to escape and survive, the other three were brutally murdered. One month later and the traumatised Angie is yet to speak, it’s believed the shock has caused her to become speechless. Angie is unable to talk about her experience and has been unable to speak to describe to a police sketch artist the murderers face. Police are starting to think that she killed her friends and then had a mental breakdown, even her psychiatrist believes that Angie has an emotionally unstable personality disorder. With everyone in the city not sure what to believe, but fearing the worst, that there is a killer on the loose, the FBI send in someone to hopefully get some answers.
FBI Special Agent Brenda Reynolds, of the VSRT has been assigned the case, and she must investigate whether, Angie, the silent girl is in fact a killer, has gone insane, or is she actually a victim. If she is a victim then she could still be in danger from a killer who wants to finish what he started. The storyline had me hooked from page one and the plot twists kept me guessing. The story was full of drama and suspense and I felt immersed in the novel. The main characters all bring something different to the overall story. I really felt for Angie, and found that her traumatised state came across in the narrative. Brenda is definitely a ‘no nonsense’ Special Agent and I felt she brought the story together. I loved the interactions between her and retired Marine, Jake Wolfe and of course Cody, his military dog. This was an entertaining read and one which I recommend.

“’ You’re the selfish coward who ran away and left your friends behind to be murdered.’” -The Girl Who Escaped

A short synopsis of my current situation: My three friends and I were out enjoying our spring break when we were abducted. Long story short, I survived while my three friends were murdered. The good news is that I was able to stab the abductor in the head and eye with a screwdriver and wave down a police officer. The bad news is they think I am the killer and I’m stuck in this psychiatric ward unable to speak. Will I be able to claim my innocence before the real killer comes back for me?

Mark Nolan does an acceptable job writing this thriller. It was intriguing enough to keep me wondering how it was going to end and was a very effortless read. I loved the fact that the author included the research he did on certain topics within the book, revealing which information was based on true information and which was not.

Although this book kept my attention until the end, I rate it 3 stars. For a book of 320 pages, it is a very fast feeling read with almost not enough detail. The detail that was there was in the wrong areas and were not needed. I found the plot to be unrealistic, examples of this include: the police not listening to Angie in the beginning and arresting her right away, the way the police were talking to her, and the FBI agent being taken down so easily with a punch because she wasn’t paying attention, and the way the FBI agent allowed Angie to be apart of the investigation. There was also another sentence within the book that I did not think was needed, “a black senior citizen and overworked nurse.” I think this description of the nurse was irrelevant and did not lend to the story in any way.

Sometimes in our lives we have shrugged off the warnings our parents gave us about being careful. Many of those times we were sure we could handle anything that came at us. That wasn’t true for Angie, the girl who escaped an attack. Angie and her friends were out doing what everybody does, right? They even had a designated driver. But then evil comes along. Then that thing we all think can’t happen, happens.

Can one plagiarize themselves? I know I’m going to be repeating myself about Mark Nolan’s “sit on the edge of your seat” stories. The character of a story is the most important element of what keeps me reading one book after another. This author is great at crafting characters, and Jake Wolfe is my favorite. In my mind, Jake is tough and yet kind. He would do whatever it took to make sure justice is done. But luckier than most, Jake has the best friend a guy could ever have, a war dog. Cody is as attuned to Jake as a cat is to catnip. This wonderful dog has his attention on anything and everything he thinks might be a danger. Jake and Cody both have PTSD, and they are a lifesaver to each other. Fortunately, they are also lifesavers like the kind Angie needs in this story.

Every time I think Mark Nolan can’t possibly get any better, I find out I’m mistaken. Off the top of my head, I would tell you this one is my favorite of them all. Then again, I don’t know. I have loved every book.
A reader’s dream is to find those rare authors so good that you spend your time trying to decide which book was the best. And you spend the other part of your time wondering when they’ll have another book out. Ask any true reader, and they’ll tell you I am absolutely correct.

Read this if you:
*Enjoy suspense thrillers
*Like whodunits
*Appreciate books that keep you sitting on the edge of your seat

Meet the Author: Mark Nolan grew up on the California coast and has lived in the Pacific Northwest and Hawaii. He enjoys being close to the ocean and enjoys boating, fishing, scuba diving, and exploring. The first novel he wrote was a top 20 bestseller in the Amazon Kindle store and a KU All-Star.

Synopsis: Unfortunately for college students spring break must come to an end. Angie didn’t realize that the end of this break would be the end of forever for her three best friends. When the group of girls are abducted Angie is the only one to escape and the other three are brutally murdered. Angie spends the following days mute while others believe she murdered her friends and is having a mental breakdown. FBI agent Brenda Reynolds must investigate whether Angie it the killer or the victim.

Reader’s Thoughts: I have not read a good mystery thriller in such a long time. The Girl Who Escaped was AMAZING! 5 stars AMAZING! Mark Nolan kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time rooting for Angie and her truth to come out. The storyline was believable, and the characters were all great assets to the storyline. There were a few twists to the plot throughout that kept me guessing. Be prepared to pick this up and spend the entire afternoon reading because you will NOT want to step away until the very end. I can’t wait to see what comes next from Mark Nolan. I will also be checking out some of his other novels.

Angie Taylor is traumatized and shocked speechless after she and her 3 friends were abducted. She is the only one who survived, her 3 friends were brutally murdered.
FBI Special Agent Brenda Reynolds of the VSRT must investigate whether the mysterious silent girl is a victim, a killer, or has gone insane.
The story begins with Angie having the feeling that someone is watching her and her friends. Directly you get pulled in the story and some tension enters.
It is a nice reading story but that's it. The tension doesn't grip you by the throat, the feelings of fear and despair are not palpable.
The moment the story gets a bit action and tension it's all over within a few sentences.
There's a difference between reading some action and tension and feeling this within your body.
The characters are well written but a bit stereotype, Brenda is a goodlooking tough woman, Jake is utterly handsome man and somewhat difficult to handle, Evelyn is a colored nurse with a lot of love for her patients.
As this is not part of a serie it would have been better to deepen the characters, there is little to no background on each of them.
Then there's the question why some chapters start with a name and others not, because at the end of the book all chapters start with a name.
I did enjoy the story but I'm sure that within a few days I'll forget what I've read.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I'm leaving this review voluntarily.

Omg this was an amazing Thriller. I have loved the books by this author from the first one I've read and this one is so good. The author does an amazing job of creating a story that is suspenseful and keeps the reader really gripped. The twists and turns keep you on the edge of your seat not wanting to stop reading until you find out the ending.

In this story we are with Angie. What started out as a holiday with her friends turns into a nightmare when they are kidnapped. Angie manages to escape but that's where things go from bad to worse. After returning to the car with police her 3 friends are found dead and Angie is the number 1 suspect.
Angie trys to explain about the kidnapper but with no evidence of anyone else being involved the police don't believe her.
All this trauma causes Angie's body to shut down and she loses the ability to talk and tell her side of the story.

When FBI Agent Brenda Reynolds comes to see her she realises the only way to get this kidnapper is to get Angie to talk but that is no simple task.

Now it's a race against time as the kidnapper/killer is still out there and has his eye on Angie. He won't settle until he gets the girl that got away. Will Angie find her voice before its too late? Will she be able to give a description of the kidnapper or will the trauma she suffered be too great for her to remember anything? And will the kidnapper succeed in his tasks of getting his revenge on Angie?

Read his full review on Rosepoint Publishing."

Angie and her three friends have enjoyed parties but the night is winding down. The attack on the girls is quick, disabled by a strange substance. They are taken on a remote road in the country and the outlook is desperate.

Jake and his faithful dog Cody are called in to assist the FBI and local law enforcement to help crack the case. This book introduces us to a division of the FBI called VSRT (The Victims Special Response Team).

A remote island is owned by a wealthy man who pays large sums to a bounty hunter who finds and brings him girls.

Jake and Cody work with the hospital to assist in resolving the issue of the young woman charged with the murder of her friends, the only survivor, restrained in the hospital. She is slowly coming out of her catatonia with the love and attention of the dog.

Mark Nolan has written a superb and at times exasperating tale of friendship and heartache. Can this heinous crime be unraveled? The novel is well-paced and held my attention throughout. As always, Cody shines as the co-protagonist. Enjoy the latest as the author’s dynamic duo help to close another edge-of-your-seat thriller. 5 stars CE Williams

Many thanks to the author for providing me the opportunity to read and review this book. These are my unbiased opinions.

This thrill-a-minute story kept me entranced and reading. The plot is excellent. The characters are real and flawed and fun. The super intelligent dog is amazing. The fast-moving pace is driven by the action and is fantastic. The multiple point of view story telling gives you such a 360 view of the story.

Brenda is an FBI agent with an elite division. This elite division works as a team to serve as victim advocates for survivors of mass killing events. Brenda is doing it alone. She is working with single survivors such as Angie, who is the only survivor of the event that left her three friends dead and Angie mute. Brenda tends to follow the rules which left her on the wrong side of the person that could help her the most with Angie, Jake. Jake is a former Marine that works with an elite K9, Cody, that serves as a therapy dog and search dog and much, much more.

Brenda, Jake and Cody must work through their past issues to help Angie regain her voice and solve the mystery surrounding her friend’s murder. Or determine that Angie is making it all up and actually is murderer.

The banter is delightful and makes you laugh out loud. This was my first book in the series but I think I might go back and catch up. The sizzling chemistry between Brenda and Jake makes me hope that in one of the future books that they might actually get together. But would that ruin the blossoming friendship?? Oh dilemma!! Thank goodness I am just the reader. Loved this book.

The Girl Who Escaped is the first book in what looks to be a wonderful new suspense thriller series which I will be adding to my reading list.

FBI Special Agent Brenda Reynolds transferred to the FBI Victim Services Support Team because she wanted to make a difference by helping Victims take back their lives by helping them feel safe and connecting them to the right people for their needs. In this book the victim is so traumatized she is unable to help them find the perpetrator. Special Agent Reynolds calls on Jake and Cody to help Angie feel safe enough to aid in finding her kidnapper. Cody is Jake's special trained canine who operates in this instance as a therapy dog for Angie. Together the group works with Angie to find this heinous criminal before he can strike again.

It took some time for me to warm up to the character of Special Agent Brenda Reynolds. She at first comes off as fairly brusque. Through her interactions with Angie I discovered she really does care about Angie and wants very much to not only find her kidnapper who also murdered her three best friends but wants to help her feel safe again and get back on the road toward recovery. She will go to whatever lengths it takes for that to occur. The addition of Jake and Cody, favorites of mine from another series, helped give me some familiarity that enabled me to quickly get into the story.

The story took off quickly and stayed at a brisk pace throughout the book. I very much look forward to the next book in the series.

I received an ARC of this book which in no way influenced my opinion given voluntarily in this review.

I was enraptured by The Girl Who Escaped. The author kept you on the edge of your seat the whole time. I have love/hate relationships with crime dramas. I either love them or hate them, no in between. This one I loved! I couldn’t put it down. Keeping me interested even when not feeling well, reading it cover to cover in one go.
Angie, a victim who has been convicted of a crime she didn’t commit. Ends up arrested and in a psychiatric facility due to her traumas. She feels she let her bestfriends down when she ran for her life, because it meant the end of theirs. Now it’s time to prove her innocence. With the help of FBI agent Brenda as well as Jake and his dog Cody, she’s on a mission of redemption and closure.
Zarin is after her. She injured him greatly and got away. He can’t let her live to see another day. Unfortunately the Prince wants her for himself. So now he’s on the mission to get her back and bring her to him.
The author weaves a wonderful story of a girl's redemption and survival. While also shedding light on one thing a lot of young women fear. Kidnapped for trafficking. This book was well written and keeps you interested the whole way through. If you like crime dramas, give this author a shot! I know I will look into other books by this author in the future, I’m definitely a fan!

The Girl Who Escaped By Mark Nolan
4 out of 5 stars

One month ago, four college girls were abducted. Three were brutally murdered. One girl escaped.

Angie Taylor was traumatized and shocked speechless. The police think she killed her friends, and then had a mental breakdown.
Her psychiatrist believes she has an emotionally unstable personality disorder.
Can she ever speak up and describe the killer’s face to a police sketch artist?
Is the murderer stalking her right now, eager to finish what he started? Everyone in the city is on edge, fearing the worst, not sure what to believe.

A visit from a determined FBI agent shakes things up and raises the stakes. FBI Special Agent Brenda Reynolds of the VSRT must investigate whether the mysterious silent girl is a victim, a killer, or has gone insane.

****

When I read a Suspense or Thriller novel my expectations are always high. I’m preparing to be immersed, challenged and baffled by the twists I didn’t see coming.

Author Mark Nolan knows how to deliver that experience. With an incredible can’t-put-down plot, well-developed characters, and a rollercoaster of a ride you will be flipping pages quick trying to get to the next chapter.

I highly recommend this book and will be reading other Mark Nolan books in the future.

4/5 star read for me!!

The Girl Who Escaped by Mark Nolan was a riveting, action-packed novel that takes off from the very first page!

Angie is a normal college student on Spring Break in South Florida with her three friends. They are enjoying a night out when things go horribly wrong when a man abducts the four of them. Angie is the only one who escapes. Thinking she is safe when she literally crosses paths with a policeman, she finds herself going from being a victim to a suspect. This was only the beginning of a story full of twists and turns. Nothing is what it seems! There are so many layers to uncover within the 318 or so pages.

The book was told from the point of view of different characters, even one of the baddest characters gives the book a voice…which I thought was fantastic. His chapters give insight into what the detectives and FBI agents haven’t discovered yet and what actually motivates him to do the evil things he does.

If the plot didn’t have me hooked, Cody, the IED-sniffing war dog, sure did! He was a great character, along with his owner, Jake. These two characters have their own books, The Jake Wolfe Series. Angie and Brenda were strong female leads as well!

Mark Nolan is a new writer to me, and I am looking forward to reading more books he has written and getting to know Jake and Cody better.

Angie Taylor and her friends are abducted during a Spring Break trip to Florida. Escaping the kidnapper, she runs into a police officer while holding a bloody screwdriver she used to stab her abductor. The police find her friends in the SUV they rented, all stabbed with a screwdriver, and find no trace of the kidnapper, believing Angie murdered them and is delusional about having been abducted. Following further trauma while being held in jail, Angie goes silent and is transferred to a secure psychiatric facility.
While everyone waits to see if Angie can find her voice again, police convince themselves it's an open and shut case, and her doctor and nurse continue attempts to help Angie speak again. When the FBI sends a special agent, Brenda Reynolds, to dig deeper into the story and seek out the potential kidnapper, she enlists the help of a canine handler who may hold the key to getting Angie to speak again.
This is a fast-paced, action/mystery story with some twists and turns, sensitive content regarding sexual assault and sex trafficking, and an original story line. I appreciated the fact-checking section at the end that described what's real and what's fiction, providing some insight to some of the information given and proving the book to be educational as well as entertaining.

If you’re looking for a well-executed, thrilling mystery, I’d suggest you look elsewhere. I thought the book’s summary had a lot of promise. However, the novel did not even remotely live up to my expectations. The writing left much to be desired. While it was technically good—in relation to grammar, spelling, etc.—it lacked that magical quality that draws you into the story and leaves you captivated. The writing was very, very awkward, and every moment that was supposed to add dramatic tension or foreshadow some future part of the mystery came across as strange.

I was quite surprised when the author indicated that a lot of research had been conducted because the story was so outlandish. Every time I thought things couldn’t be odder, there was something new to surprise me. From the absolutely dumbfounding assumptions made by the police to the unusually aggressive alligators that ran out of canals to attack people to the secondary villains that seemed to come out of nowhere—just to name a few—the book was a hodgepodge of weird occurrences. Angie must be the unluckiest soul to ever walk the earth because things went wrong for her at every turn.

Overall, this book was utterly strange and awkwardly written. I definitely do not recommend it.

*I received an ARC of this novel. This is my complete and honest review.*
