Lylah Taylor’s debut was fabulous. It’s a slow-burn, angsty, enemies to lovers, close proximity, captive monster romance in which females were almost on the brink of extinction when monsters took them captive.

Jade and Thorin were fire! The push and pull between the two and the way their relationship evolved from enemies to lovers was *chef’s kiss*. I loved the alpha, dominant, protective monster that Thorin was to the feisty Jade. He became such a sweetheart for her and I loved it.

This book is scorching, panty melting hot and I loved every minute of it. I devoured this book so quickly! There are some heavy trigger warnings so reader discretion is advised, but also there was praise and breeding. Yes please!

This one’s a Dark monster romance so just make sure you double check your tw’s. This was such a great story! I loved the world building, it was so detailed. Our FMC is strong in a world where both monsters and human men try to take advantage of women. She is snatched off the street by a monster one night.

She makes friends with the group of girls she meets while in captivity. Thorin is a monster that lives in the compound she’s being held captive at, he quickly makes it his business to protect her at all costs.

I just really enjoyed the plot and the spice 😁.

I couldn't wait to get my hands on this intriguing monster romance. So, did it meet my expectations? I'd say you're almost there.

First and foremost, I'm not sure what to make of the writing; while I found it to be quite fast-paced and easy to get into, I'm not sure I'm compelled by the storytelling.

The plot was there, but it wasn't quite solid, especially since the novel didn't provide any details about the problem other than it being a conflict with the plot.

The characters are likable, but my main issue is the lack of chemistry between Jade and Thorin. I tried so hard to root for them, but the novel didn't deliver the romance I was hoping for, and that section felt rushed.

I'd say the side characters are far more interesting to me, particularly Sophie and the other monsters, so I was hoping for a book about them. I also wouldn't forget about the Drakou guy; his name is a little complicated, but I'm intrigued by him.

Overall, I'm satisfied with this. Hopefully, the next one will be better.

I was 35% in the book, and I was like, Nope, I'm not doing this. I already hated this book. The hell! FMC is already injured. I have never seen a MMC more pathetic and useless than the guy in this book. He can't seem to protect his woman, or himself, for that matter.

But still, I read on—you know, just to see if it had any redeeming qualities. Spoiler alert: It didn't. I just wasted my time reading this shitton of crap. MMC was trying to do something alright. But, you see, it was equivalent to not doing anything. He was messing things up more than solving their problems.

This book gave me whiplash. It reminded us again and again how the FMC was not going to give up and would escape. Later, she actually planned to escape the place, and she convinced other women as well. But then they backed out at the last moment. And she got angry with them. She never told MMC, though, that she had planned to leave him. And there was one scene where the MCs were playing a game of hide-and-seek—perhaps—and FMC took off to the woods. I don't know what she was thinking; maybe she actually planned to escape. FMC was a total mess, honestly. The plan sucked, though; she got caught pretty soon. The author wrote this plot, abandoned it halfway, and gave us this half-assed scene where FMC attempted to escape.

Her wanting to escape is justified, but why did the author give the readers hope of them escaping? I expected some action. We didn't get anything. This book was so bad. I wish I had never read this book.

They don't punish men in their species when they assault women, and it's normal to do things to them when they are not consciously giving their consent. It's disgusting, really. Respect for the council, or rather, the elderly, is the only positive thing that they have. I wonder if they could have used blood bags instead of killing women for blood. And what about Thorin? He was different. But did he not participate in seasons before? So how noble was he? The most vile creature in the book "Drakonus". He was left unharmed. Seriously? And being pregnant was the only time women were taken seriously by these monsters. Maybe I skipped the part... I don't care... What species did they belong to? And why was the MMC suddenly able to grow in size and strength? Consistency in the plot—yeah, that was absent in this book. Are readers supposed to connect the dots?

Please read TW/CW because this book isn't for everyone and contains darker themes. So if it's not for you, it's not for you. ⚠️⚠️⚠️

Thanks so much Lylah for the ARC in exchange for the honest review. I enjoyed this monster romance between Jade and Thorin. If you love a slow burn with a bit of angst, then you'll love both of them. They were in a world where females were almost in a brink of extinction and these demons or monsters had to take them as captives.

It was very interesting to see their relationship develop in such a short period of time and it didn't feel rushed to me considering how the time went. However, I wasn't sure if they were demons or aliens tbh, but I just considered them as demons. There was drama and conflict in their community and it was fast-paced. So I enjoyed the book

🦇 Enemies to lovers
🦇 Thorin is a sweet, but a spicy monster with a big monster peen
🦇 Fierce AF FMC

Great Monster Romance
Jades town is over run by monsters. Women have to stay in at night or their taken. One night jade saves one of these monsters and years later it comes back. She is taken by the monsters to help with her population and feeding. But one is different.

I loved this concept of the book and what the author was writing. The love the detail in the description of the monsters. You can really picture them. I was sucked into the story and what was going to happen. And then the end! I did not except that🤯 There was a great plot. This is a book I really enjoyed.

I would love a second book to this. If you need a monster romance you need to try this one.

3 ish maybe a little more 3.5

It was a different kind of Read i definitely found the new take on vampires interesting....

The Unleashed Powers was only one sentence i had to go back and reread as it seemed a little insignificant considering how important it was to the book... What were the powers why were they supressed ect ect.

The ending did feel a little rushed, but it was nice the Novel wrapped up things in one book.

if the ending wasn't as rushed and more explanation was given as to the untapped powers it would have been a 4 star read, the writing was good as where the characters and setting

Thank you so much to Lylah Taylor for the ARC! I recommend checking the content and trigger warnings, because this is not for everyone.

I binged this so fast LOL. I really loved and enjoyed A Monster's Prey. While I found their relationship did develop really fast, it was still a really nice slow burn. The way Lylah created not only the main characters, but also the side characters was really wonderful. I wasn't just drawn to Thorin and Jade, but also the side characters. Congrats Lylah! Wonderful debut novel, I am so excited to see what you will release in the future!

If you love monster romance you should definitely check out A Monster’s Prey!

I was very invested in the plot and finding out what would happen to Jade and the other women. The pacing was perfect. And the tension was great.
Definitely a slow to medium burn but loved seeing the relationship evolve between Jade and Thorin. there was a lot of push and pull throughout the book I really loved how Lylah wrapped everything up too!

I was lucky to get an ARC copy of this book and these are my thoughts. This is an enjoyable book that’s suitable for readers who wants to start dabble into paranormal monster romance book, this is a good place to start on, you’ll find yourself captive in the story as it move forward

Things that I like:
- The FC character is loveable and you would really roots for her, she is strong given the situations she got thrown into
- The MC also is loveable as he’s tries his best to understand and protect the FC
- The amount of Slow-burn is just right that you’ll find it entertaining
- The characterisation is stable and you’d find it explainable on how and why they act the way they do
- The writing is consistent and has an easy flow to read
- the spice is good and enough that it’s not too overpowering the plot

Things that I’m not sure about:
- there are unanswered questions throughout the book
Eg.
+ How did the monster ended up on earth?
+Why did their female population dies away?
+ What exactly is the brother hierarchy and how does that operate? How many in the council? And what makes the MC so special in the hierarchy?
+ what is the monsters’ history where did they come from?
- I’d like to see the conflict to be expand more since it’s a bit rush

Overall this is a great debut novel, again, it was definitely entertaining for a monster read starting point, and there are still room for improvement. I’d like to see the author to grow more in this writing journey

I don't understand the hype with this one. The plot has more holes than Swiss cheese. The ladies end up being TSTL. And Deus Ex Machina saves the plot in the end.
There are cellphones and birth-control implants, but nobody thought to use simple GPS technology to track the kidnapped women, then nuke the monsters to hell? They thought the women were dead anyway. With the freaking army of the US, the most powerful army in the world, assuming no other countries would join forces with them, the monsters can't be stopped? Can't suspend my disbelief so fucking much.
And why would Thorin be so hellbent in saving women, when absolutely nothing in his backstory or the society he lives in would foster such radical thinking? Not that this monster society is actually explained, they mention betas and alphas, but what is the purpose of having that difference? Why do they follow the council? This council does nothing to enforce any laws, why keep them? Why would nobody even think to kill them and take their places? Drakonus seemed to have much more power than the council members; even Thorin's "father figure" (I can't be bothered to remember the guy's name) was powerless to stop Drakonus sometimes, so... Why wasn't Drakonus the leader? It seemed like he could have taken over anytime he wanted. Makes no sense, with his personality, that he never tried. Another thing is, their need for blood is never fully explained. They ate normal food, but also blood, but not every day, and then when they fed they often drained the women too much so they died. Why not feed a little every day? Why not have only one woman for each dude and they could feed on her every day and avoid deaths?
Another thing is that they seemed OK in direct sunlight, not like it affected them at all, so why only hunt at night? Maybe it gave them an advantage at first, but with the curfew, that became stupid, so why didn't they start to hunt during the day? It's not like they were afraid of the weapons or anything, and they are so freaking fast no human vehicle could have kept up with them. Plot holes galore. The relationship didn't make much sense to me either, it was too instalovey and merely lust most of the time. And finally, at the end, she's pregnant (with a female, nonetheless), when we were told it wasn't possible since she hadn't been consuming the blood, and had a contraceptive implant, and Thorin develops some superpower that was "lost to them", but we never knew it existed in the first place and it's never explained, since it's only mentioned in passing in the epilogue. And how the healer can tell someone is pregnant and the sex of the baby is never explained either.

Monster's have invaded the city and so curfews are put in place to maintain safety, but they're only taking women. So before the sunsets women must be in the indoors. Unfortunately it wasn't just the monsters that women had to worry about because the human males prowled the shadows waiting to rape and kill women under the guise of protecting them. Jade had to work late and decided to chance going home after the sunset, but when men start following her she runs into an alley to hide behind the dumpster. Terrified now that she hears they've grab another woman and she's frozen in place she hears a voice not human tell her to run before hearing a gunshot. Coming out the alley she see's the carnage left behind by the monster and follow it's landing through a glass window. Once she is face to face with the injured monster she decides to help him. Once she helps she runs to the safety of her home. Fast Forward after a long day she is at work late and decides to walk home since she now carries a weapon for protection after her last run in with the men in the alleyway. Coming face to face with a monster again she's flown away from the city and placed in the cell with other females from the city. In this placed surrounded by monsters she is back in the presence of the one monster she saved and they both have to figure out how to save each other, because their hearts recognize one another.

This is a pretty good story and it's a build up of the romance between Jade and Thorin. The story was slow at some parts at the beginning, but after that it was pretty much fast. Jade was a very annoying character that you learn to love as well want to smack sense into. Thorin was just sexy, but had that hero complex down pact in the story.

Am I attracted to a fictional monster named Thorin, that drinks human blood, abducts women, and partakes in a crazy mating ritual? Abso-fucking-lutely. Ok, but hear me out….Thorin may do all of the above, but he does it in a way that’s different from the other monsters.
He and Jade have a history. Three years pass, and she shows up at his compound of monsters as a captive. They recognize each other immediately and the attraction is instant. It’s like a magnetic pull they can’t avoid. The fate of previous captives in the “Season” (crazy mating ritual) have not been successful and there is a big possibility of the women dying. Thorin can’t bear it happening to Jade, so he attempts to shield her from the traditional practices held for the “contributions”. Did I mention this is not a willing ritual? It becomes sort of a dubious consent ordeal because of some of the practices. Thorin is literal monster perfection. The perfect mixture of an alpha, dominant, protector, sweetheart. His relationship with a feisty Jade is freaking beautiful. I loved that she had her own mind and gave him hell, but he loved her all the more for it. It’s a slow burn for spice, but when it picks up 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨 it’s so freaking hawt! Like scorching. I loved his dominant side inside (and outside😉) of the bedroom. Everything he says during sexy time just has the panties melting!

Moving on…the storyline of the book is very unique and I very much enjoyed it. It’s super fast paced and doesn’t take long to suck you into it. Please read the TW as it has SEVERAL!

Thank you so much to Lylah Taylor for the ARC!

Please read the trigger warnings for this book because it has some things that may be triggering.

Overall, I liked the book but didn't really like the FMC. Jade was fully aware that she was living in a world that was not safe for women. She knew that women had a curfew to be home before dark. She knew she lived in a world where crimes against women went unpunished but yet she still wanted to do what she wanted. In a world where monsters roamed the sky in search of women to take into captivity to be their blood supply Jade had no self-perseverance.

The monsters in this book took women into captivity and fed on their blood. To make the women compliant they would drug them with a special fruit. Women in this book were not safe and were Abducted, Assaulted, Bred and held in captivity until they either gave birth to more monsters or died.

Thorin was a monster with a conscience. He did everything in his power to protect Jade and keep her safe and the whole time she was plotting her escape. This was a slow burn monster romance allowing the characters to spend time together getting to know one another while building trust between them. That trust soon transformed into Love and acceptance.

If you have an aversion to any triggers stemming from women, no longer having any rights over her life or her body this is not the story for you.

Trigger Warning

*Abduction
*Addiction
*Attempted Sexual Assault
*Captivity
*Dub-Con
*Forced Breeding

The hero was so powerless.

He and the heroine meet when she goes out after curfew, even knowing monsters steal women they find outside and those women are never seen again. He rescues a different woman from rape but gets shot. She covers his wound with a bandage and puts pressure on it and leaves before he wakes up. She never knew if he survived or not.

So she is dumb and keeps going out after curfew. It's not for any important reason, she just likes knowing she can be out after curfew so she carries a gun and a knife.

So she gets kidnapped by a monster. It turns out no woman who gets kidnapped ever survives past a year. They drink the women's blood and some of them are forced to become pregnant. The women never survive.

The hero finds out the woman who saved him has been brought in as a contribution. So he goes to feed on her and tells her he'll keep her safe. Yet the next day his rival forcibly feeds on her and she almost dies from blood loss.

His rival keeps coming after her and the hero does nothing. He complains to their leadership that the rival is killing the women and leaders don't care.

Eventually the leaders say she didn't become pregnant so they are giving her to his rival. Hero is angry and tries to save her. Heroine has already been fighting the rival. But wait! It turns out she is pregnant with a daughter. The human women never have daughters. So she is saved but the evil system remains.

I didn't like this book.

ARC: Love it, is not even enough to express how much I enjoy every page of this book.
The world & the story itself is like equally built in poetry, painted magic'ly for monsters.

The slowburn romance between the next-in- line alpha Thorin and fiesty Jade was killing me. The deep attraction between the two is growing deeper. They are drawn to each other, they were deeply connected in one fateful night where they saved each other...Even the part where Thorin was about to feed from Jade it was still slow burn and it was killing me with anticipation.

BUT!!! When they finally did it?! Oh my Thorin! There was no holding back. No holding back! They take each other in every moment they have. And they take each other in blazing heat, daring, wet and hard with desire. It was like, the built up attraction they have was expressed in every kiss, every thrust, every taste, every touch, every climax. It was beautiful. 🔥*chefskiss*

Don't get me wrong, there's a great romantic story above the spicy scenes, there's thrill and happy ending.

And as much as I love the main character, I'm drawn too to side characters, like chef Luca and Sophie. I was cheering for them the moment Sophie entered the kitchen. OOw, the way Luca adored Sophie *chefskiss*

Sweet monster romance. I typically read much darker stories, so this was light and fluffy for me, despite the subject matter.

TW’s include: alphahole antagonist, assault, on page pregnancy, mentions of abortion (not followed through), kidnapping of women, dub-con, explicit sexual scenes.

The story starts with Thorin, a cinnamon roll monster, saving Jade from being assaulted in an alleyway.

Three years later she is kidnapped by another monster of Thorin’s kind and brought to their compound hidden in the mountains, where women (while treated well) are forced into the monster breeding program.

Thorin’s and Jade’s souls are drawn together in a fated mates sort of way, though not explicitly mentioned as such. The story follows Thorin & Jade as he tries to keep her protected from the breeding program.

It was a quick read for me and so adorable the love Thorin & Jade share. One if the better first releases I’ve read from a new author. Room to grow but lots of potential. Keep up the great work, Lylah! 4/5.

Thank you so much to the author I'm super grateful for the ARC of A Monster's Prey. There were a lot of things that I enjoyed and had a great time with while reading this book. I really enjoyed Jade as the FMC she was very headstrong and really cared about her morals and friends. Thorin was a a very interesting monster but I could really tell how much he cared and wanted to not only make a difference but make relationships for the better between the monsters and the human females.

Thorin and Jade met when he saves a female from getting attacked by a group of men and Jade was hiding. The altercation ends in him getting shot and because he had saved her and the other female, Jade decides to return the favor and patch him up. The story continues a couple of years later when Jade gets taken to be used as a blood supply for the monsters. Thorin recognizes by her scent and decides that he will protect her.

The trust and relationship development I thought was really heartwarming and cute but there was constant danger at every turn for them. Since there has never been a precedent of a monster and human falling for each other they really had to make sure to keep their relationship a secret. I will also say that they smut and dirty talk was very delicious and spicy.

The only complaints I have are that I still have a lot of questions as to the lore of the story. For example I'm not really sure what kind of monsters they are? I assume along the lines of like demons? Where did they come from? Why exactly did their female population die off and how is it that human women can sustain them? I also wanted to understand more about the way the council and hierarchy of the monsters worked.

I received an ARC ebook of this for an honest review.

I love my monster romances, so when I seen Lylah needed ARC readers I knew I needed to sign up.

I rated this book a 4 star because I thought the ending seemed a bit rushed, but other than that I absolutely loved it.

Jade and Thorin's love is a slow/medium burn. I loved the idea that Thorin was addicted to Jade just from having smelt that she was the one who saved him.
Thorin wants change to happen in his brotherhood and having found Jade was taken by a fellow brother, he is able to start implementing these changes, Jade is not trusting right away but pretty soon she is team Thorin all the way. Not to mention the sexy times🔥🔥

I disliked the idea of the fruit the girls ate made them drugged (not the book it's self) and Sofia almost dying. But the book ends with a happy ending. All in all I would definitely reread this book and recommend it to friends.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

I'm officially rating this a 3.5 but rounded up since Goodreads doesn't have half ratings.

I received a copy of this as an arc review so here is my honest opinion about the book.

This book was enjoyable but it wasn't my favorite. The story was going at a great pace, in the beginning, slowed down a ton in the middle, and then went super speed at the end and I felt like if the pace from the beginning had been kept throughout the book I might've been rating this higher.

The MMC was one of my favorite parts. I especially liked the fact that despite him being a monster, the way he spoke flowed really well with the essentially alternate/modern setting that this takes place in. The FMC left a lot to be desired. She was really wishy-washy with her decisions and I never fully understood what her motive was for the main plot - especially after she was happy with the MMC and then continued with that sort of "have to escape" mentality.

In a world ruled in fear of the monsters who kidnap women at night, Jade takes back her power by reclaiming her nights. After saving one of the very monsters everyone fears, why should she be afraid?
Until another one kidnaps her and whisks her away to a life that should end in certain death… only Jade finds her OG hotty monster and his possessive side. The two questions remain: can Jade find love with Thorin? And will she survive long enough to find out?

A Monster's Prey contains all the "touch her and die vibes" from start to finish. While sprinkling kidnapping, monsters, sex, and a deliciously dark male MC throughout.

Lylah Taylor’s hit debut “A Monster’s Prey” will have you screaming for Jade to run while weeping for her to stay by Thorin’s side.

This is a MUST READ for 2022 and you won’t be able to put it down!

I stayed up all night binging this monster romance!
The chemistry between Thorin and Jade is UNMATCHED. I mean absolutely, smoking hot!!!
I loved most of the characters in this book, I only took slight issue with Jade. I wish that there was a bit more growth on her end. However, that didn't stop me from really enjoying this book! Whatever issues I had with Jade, Thorin more than made up for it.
A Monster's Prey is well paced, interesting, and absolutely worth the read if you get the chance! I also want to give the author props for including TW and handling some sensitive issues with great respect.
Lylah did an awesome job creating this world, and I'm looking forward to reading more books in the future by her!

I received this as an ARC, but my opinions are absolutely my own!

I loved reading A Monster’s Prey! It is a fantastic dark monster romance. Lylah did an amazing job on her debut book!

It had the perfect amount of spice (oh, was it spicy!). I couldn’t put it down. I enjoyed this take on their world and struggles that came when the ‘monsters’ arrived.

The love story between Thorin and Jade was the sweetest thing. It was dual POV, so you were able to get into both of their heads and know what they were thinking… (aka about each other).

The cover art is also so dreamy! The artist did a great job capturing both Thorin and Jade!

I has given an eARC of the book from the author.

“You were made for me. He inched again. We belong with each other. And again. He filled me completely; in every way.”

This is the authors debut book and she did not disappoint. Black, horned flying monsters with huge 🍆. I really like the love dynamics between the two main character’s Jade and Thorin. Both looking for someone to heal their broken pieces, yet scared of loving each other because of their vast differences.

I think the author needs to continue this series with more books. A book about how these monster end up the no females and how they came to Earth. One about Lucian’s and Sophie’s connection and lastly, a look into the future with changes Thorin puts in place and seeing how life pans out for his children with Jade.

This book was such a great read, I really enjoy her reading style and look forward to future books from her!
