Sweetwater Pack #2

His Rejected Alpha Mate

Rate this book
Finally reunited with his son in his new pack, and free of his former mate, Jasper discovers his fated mate in the heart of the Sweetwater pack. Dakota is an unwelcome complication in an overloaded life.

Dakota wasn't looking for a fated mate. The loss of his love, Cooper, still lingered in his heart. The strange attraction he felt towards his best friend's papa made sense when he met the man. His true fated mate. Rejected instantly, Dakota brushes aside his hurt to make his case but Jasper stubbornly insists they can't be together, denying Dakota of the family he'd started to dream of having.

An unexpected pregnancy brings the pair together. Jasper has to learn to trust not only his life, but the life of his kids, to his new mate when an outside threat comes for the Sweetwater pack.

Proving his worth to his mate, and to himself, has never never been so vital to Dakota, especially with his children, and grandchildren's lives on the line.

His Rejected Alpha contains references to past abuse, an accidental pregnancy, (whoops), lots of babies and a strange threat to the Sweetwater pack. This book must be read as part of the series due to ongoing plot threads.

I was a 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫 of this book and received an 𝐀𝐑𝐂 copy from the author for an honest review.

After literally falling in love with the first book and the omegaverse universe that the author has built, I couldn't wait for the second book. I was so 𝐄𝐗𝐂𝐈𝐓𝐄𝐃 to learn more about Jasper after his appearance in book one. Even more, I couldn't wait to see how things would develop between him and Dakota.

I should clarify that maybe Kota is my total favorite of the series. (at least until now) Ever since the first book I imagined him as a big cuddly teddy bear perfect for loving. That's why it made me sad when Jasper ignored him when they first met in book one.

Yes, even then I sensed that things weren't going to be easy for them and Dakota's attempts to reach Jasper's heart were going to be met with a lot of resistance.

𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐭 𝐦𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤. 𝐈'𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐟, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐈 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠.

What I liked the most was that the love story wasn't the only interesting thing going on in the plot. The main storyline continued to develop and there was a lot of suspense, mystery and even action. The whole action wasn't focused solely on the Alphаs and Omegas, as in most omegaverse books. Here the Betas also had an opportunity to stand out. There are new characters that I think will be key in the next books, but only the future will tell.

I have to admit – I had a hard time liking 𝐉𝐚𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐫. I tried to put myself in his shoes. I told myself that his actions were logical. Still, he is a man who tries to protect his heart and children, especially after the previous nightmare relationship. But it didn't work out for me. Already towards the middle of the book, I can say that I started to see him in a different light and like him.

(actually the character is great built! It just burned me how he ignored Kota and it took me a while to love him)

On the other hand, 𝐃𝐚𝐤𝐨𝐭𝐚 is a sweetheart. He is the kind of person who cares about others, not just their family and friends. I was very impressed with him from the first book. And in this one, not only did he not disappoint me, but I loved him even more.

Most of my favorite moments are with him - when Kade calls him "Dad" for the first time, when he decorates Angelica's room, even though he wasn't sure what would happen between him and Jasper, and so much more...

I can't help but mention 𝐀𝐱𝐞𝐥 and 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐞 again. But this time they are joined by 𝐑𝐨𝐚𝐧, who has earned a place among my favorites.

When I started the first book in the series, I wasn't Dakota's biggest fan. By the end of it I was joining the masses in chanting for him to find his own fated mate! Is there anyone more caring than that sweet bear? I don't think so which makes him the perfect partner to a man like Jasper.

Jasper has been through hell and back. He spent the last years on the run and in hiding with his young daughter, while having no communication with his son Kade. All of this was done to protect himself and his family from his former mate, a terrible and abusive wolf shifter. There's no single way people respond to trauma, especially physical abuse, and Jasper has been left more wary than most. When he shows up to see his son after so many years only to come face to face with his fated mate, a giant bear shifter who could snap him in half, you can see why he would be leery.

Unfortunately for Dakota, that leeriness causes the majorty of the drama in what should be a joyous occasion. Finding one's fated is a blessing and poor Dakota is heartbroken Jasper doesn't see it that way. I wanted to slap Jasper upside the head at some points, especially the moments he spent watching how wonderful Dakota was with his young daughter Angelica. I mean Dakota was #stepdad goals, how could Jasper not realize how amazing a mate he would be? Even Kade was on Dakota's side. Every time Kade called Dakota Dad my heart melted into goo.

Blessedly, Jasper does eventually get his act together but of course it cannot be sunshine and rainbows from there. We have some pretty wild stuff going on plot wise in reguards to shifters in general and some new and old friends popping up. There's a plan brewing somewhere. I can feel it and I cannot wait to see where the author takes this series next!!

Getting rejected not once but three times was quite traumatic for Dakota.
He’s almost afraid to have hope for a future. The doubts are torture.

When Kade's papa Jasper and Kade’s little sister Angel arrive at the Sweetwater Pack, they are allowed to enter their ground. We learned from the previous story, now it’s finally safe for Jasper to travel. He hasn’t seen Kade for years.
Jasper ignores the big scowling alpha he recognizes as his fated mate. No way he wants a mate, after all he’s been through.

It’s quite heartbreaking to watch Dakota’s pain and cope with the situation.
His doubts are getting worse when Jasper turns to him in heat. He’s there for his heat and not for him.
Jasper is struggling until he can’t anymore.
It seems so far so good, but no!

Above different kinds of stress, above pack matters, there’s a threat is coming from an unexpected side.

Thankfully the pack is getting help from outside their pack!

I loved this story hard, it’s just exactly what I love about, shifters, mpreg, and pack storytelling, every aspect is wonderfully developed. I loved when the Elves arrived, can’t wait to read more about certain connections *hearts in eyes*
At some point, there was a separation and the duration got a bit too long, I got so anxious.
Dakota was a lovable dedicated alpha bear, I had to warm up to Jasper, Alpha mate Kade and Alpha Blake got a great place in this story, just like other family members. Just read it yourself!
Further, I enjoyed all the pack matters, the dynamic was wonderful, the development was excellent, everything emotion was palpable described, and oh boy emotional it was, at some point I cried my eyes out. Another winner that’s for sure!!

I absolutely love this series. Jasper is Kade's father & he ran with his daughter from their father, but he left Kade behind. When he gets word that his POS alpha has died, he knows that he wants to reconnect with his son who he hasn't seen or spoken to since he left. When he makes his way back, he doesn't hit it off with Kade's mate Blake. And he also rejects his own mate, not once or twice, but three times. I understood after all Jasper went through why he didn't trust any Alphas. But at times, I just wanted to smack him since he was just a horrible to Dakota. You could see Dakota's heart just breaking every time Jasper gives him the cold shoulder & won't even bother to speak to him. Jasper wants to keep his lover and just let Dakota swinging in the wind. But when his lover decides he isn't going to make the trip to where Jasper is, he changes his mind and wants to accept Dakota, only because he is going into heat. But you really see that once he makes the decision, he goes all in & accepts Dakota & you see these two really fall for these two. The suspense was off the charts and was very scary, but I am not going to spoil it by giving that away. The book did not disappoint.

This is the second book in the Sweetwater Pack series and it's even better than the first book in my opinion. This is the story of Jasper and Dakota. I didn't like Dakota for most of the first book but he redeemed himself by the end of it. Now I love this sweet bear shifter who really wants a family of his own. Jasper has been through a lot in a short time and doesn't want a fated mate. Both of guys have issues to work through to hopefully get their happy ever after. This book has a great story line to it. I would definitely recommend it.

toxic

I can not get over the small town gossipy culture that propels the plot. Lots of information about private matters get passed from third party to third party, and acted on by meddling pack members.

A guy who was in hiding after twenty years of abuse rushes to the side of his son, meets his fated mate, and rather than every one giving the traumatized guy space, they all go “fate is never wrong”, and when a guy who’s justified in his trauma reaction shows reluctance to mate, fated Alpha gets butthurt and demands groveling to earn forgiveness—and then groveling does happen in a fit of magical horniness.

It may be attempting to show real three-dimensional character, warts and all, (both Jasper and Dakota annoy me in different ways) and maybe shifter culture is very much in every one’s business (rather than another plot device to force a HEA, like heat and pregnancy), but if not for the fate connection, I don’t think these two would be together. Or if they did get together, they’d take it slow, without their alter personality pushing them together. (Are shifters all DSM diagnosable.)

More therapy needed: Your son is fine, he’s an adult, go off and find who you are.

Thank you for arc read, I voluntarily give this book an honest review. Well that is just wonderfully brilliant, pull Jasper's guard with only a text..It's a wonder he didn't stroke out right on the steps.  I don't know if fate is just a furious BYtCH, they just have a wick senses humor on timing! Some one is going to get whiplash from all the boomerang emotions. Totally understand Dakota's oversized protection instincts, so much better now! As Jasper comes to realize how happiness makes the world a better place because coming  Sweetwater pack.

What should be  happiness of news for Jasper being able to see as well as touch Ryder/ Kade if filled with a tremendous amount of fear. Jasper could've been thrown a vision for timing on arrival..you know just a little heads up wouldn't be asking for much. Now to be torn between his two sides, because of what is now to happen with Silas? Was he just the safest route?  Feeling the pains of rejection is the worst. One thing is clear, Dakota doesn't take in to count that his Fox had and is suffering emotional traumas.  Can he have another chance at having the home he dreamt.. it is definitely painful on Dakota's end but with a commutation, hurts and pain can be laid out. Only of they are willing on taking time, just being there may prove the fates was right in their picking.  Unexpected or not Trey and Grady are just being down and out RUDE!

His Rejected Alpha Mate is the second book in the Sweetwater pack series.
We already got to know Dakota, an Alpha bear shifter and Jasper, an Omega fox shifter (though him just briefly) in the first book.
Their book is about their more than rocky start, Kota’s endless patience with Jasper and the way Jasper works through the issues from his past.
It took a while to warm up to Jasper but this is solely due to the fact that I ADORE Kota. Kota with his gently demeanor and his huge heart. Considering what Jasper had gone through his actions are completely relatable. Getting through and coming out of this hell had taken a toll on him
Once Jasper warms up to Kota and gets his act together, those two are GOLD. The development of their relationship is incredible and so realistic. They really work to make their relationship work.
Kota’s bond with with Jasper’s little girl is too precious, Kota accepts her as his own immediately. The instant mutual adoration and love is palpaple through the pages.
Jax created a wonderful universe with the Sweetwater pack, so many different characters, unusual bonds and an amazing storyline. The pacing of this book is perfect, a mixture between suspenseful parts and so, so sweet ones.
I can’t wait for what’s to come with those wonderful characters.

His Rejected Alpha Mate is book two in the Sweetwater Pack series. This is seriously a fantastic second book in the series. I definitely recommend reading His Reluctant Omega Mate first as there is some overlap but this also read great as a standalone. Jasper, a fox shifter is Kade’s papa and has come to see his son who he hasn’t seen in over five years. Dakota, a bear shifter is Kade’s best friend. I didn’t like Kota much at the beginning of the first book, but he quickly grew on me. Jasper was a jerk to Kota, and I didn’t like that because I had turned into a Kota fan! Jasper has had a rough life, especially these last five years. He’s doesn’t trust easily. He’s prickly, grumpy and he rejects Kota as his fated mate. When they finally get together, meaning jasper gets his head out of his bum, they are sweet, hot and steamy, spicy! There is some drama that unfolds that goes on with the ongoing story line. Fantastic secondary characters and a hint of what’s next! Overall, a phenomenal read! Well written with perfect pacing that sucked me right in. Highly recommend!

ARC received from the author for an honest review.

Jasper doesn't have to run and hide from his abusive alpha anymore, so he immediately goes to his son Kade. Upon his first meeting he almost alienates his son-in-law and rejects his fated mate Dakota. This starts a series of hurt feelings, miscommunication and awkward meetings with many of his son's new pack. Jasper is still leery and suffering from the abuse he's been dealt and isn't ready for a mate. He's about to go into his heat and plans to use his boyfriend even though his mate is right there.

Dakota thought he had his mate when he was younger. He's always loved Cooper and doesn't want anyone taking his place. When he met Kade he wanted a partnership with him but Kade was meant for someone else. When he meets Kade's Papa Jasper he immediately realizes that he's his fated mate. He doesn't know exactly how to feel about that but doesn't have a chance to feel it out because he's rejected. When the rejection comes he knows in his heart that he's lost something precious and keeps trying to get Jasper to talk about their mating.

When Jasper's boyfriend doesn't come to him for his heat, that only leaves a few options. He can't go it alone and he doesn't want to use the heat club so he goes to Dakota. One long and hot night does a little to help mend their riff but there's still things that need to be settled. New members are coming to the Sweetwater Pack. Danger comes calling and help arrives from many different fronts. Most surprisingly from the Elves.

This is a nice romance with paranormal and fantasy parts added in. During the danger part of the book it seemed to drag and I was skimming pages for awhile; then the book picked back up. This was probably owing to the fact that the danger parts weren't really that dangerous or dramatic. It was like ok there's danger, drag out caring for people and then it's over. The danger never really had that touch and go feeling to it. It was definitely anticlimactic. The part about Elliott getting attacked was only mentioned in passing after the fact. I thought this was a very important thing that needed to be written about in full length, not just a oh by the way situation. I liked the stuff about the babies and how everyone ends up in a HFN situation. I like how several of the characters have stories ideas kind of set up in this book and I'm looking forward to reading them.

I have been anxiously waiting for Dakota to get his happiness and here we go! Oh man this book was so good. It was every bit as good as the first one and that is saying something. (I had to reread the first one when I finished this one.) Dakota broke my heart with his pain over Jasper rejecting him. Thankfully, Jasper doesn’t take too terribly long to come around. I like how this book and the first one overlapped a little. I can’t wait to see how the rest of this series unfolds. I am in love with all of these characters and the Sweetwater Pack. This series just feels like a warm hug and I will be visiting with these characters for years! They are definitely on my must reread often list!

Tension, want and conflict that’s the beginning of things for Dakota & Jasper. Can they move past that to get to the true love between them. Dakota & Jasper have both been hurt in the past, they need to be able to see past it to have the best life they can. All the while turmoil for the pack makes everything that much more difficult for them. Highly recommend this book and series.

Surprisingly, Jasper isn't always a soft target. You may empathize with his prior difficulties, but there are times when you just want to yell at him to stop making Dakota suffer.
Indeed, Dakota is an exceptionally stunning and amazing alpha with extraordinary patience. If nothing else, he is forthright about his expectations. I appreciate his unwavering commitment to how he feels about the children.
Naturally, they'll have to put up a fight, but the pack dynamics and sense of family are consistent and strong. The ingenious plot twist that brings in some new people while yet keeping the old ones is the glue that holds the group together.
I love how our author provides a wealth of information without overwhelming the reader. Even though we're just halfway through the series, it's already a favorite. I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.

I’ve been eagerly looking forward to Dakota and Jasper’s story and it didn’t disappoint.

Dakota was an absolute sweetheart.
Jasper’s rejection cut him deep every time and his pain and sadness echoed through the pages. I just wanted to hug papa bear - he seriously needed some major cuddles.

It took me a while to warm up to Jasper. When he opened his heart to Dakota, that’s when I finally liked him.

Dakota and Jasper’s new bond was tested to its limits as things in the pack spiralled downhill.

Fantastic book and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Brilliant!

Jasper is funnily enough not always easy to like! He has struggles from his past and you do understand to a point but some times you may want to say “hey, wake up and get on the Dakota train now!”

Dakota is absolutely a gorgeous and wonderful alpha with patience that is beyond strong! He at least is honest about how he expects things to be. I love that he absolutely all in when it came to his feelings about the kids!

The pack dynamics and sense of family is strong throughout and they of course have a fight on their hands. How everyone comes together and even some new characters come into the fold was brilliantly written in!

I am totally into how our author fills you with information but doesn’t overwhelm you at the same time! This series is already a top pick and we are only on book two!

Emotional whirlwind in an alpha-omega, fated-mates universe, Mpreg/MM romance

The title highlights the main conflict, and it’s a good one. Shifters, alpha-omega fated mates, rejected mate, wary frightened omega who’s been through hell, loving lonely alpha who just wants to be there for his mate, even if that means letting him go…poof, strong tension and emotion. Please read the sales copy for a plot summary.

Despite some surface editing issues (and I do mean beyond proofreading, this book needs a line edit), I loved the story and read it straight through due to how well the author creates emotion. The style is a bit rough, but the strong emotions and character connections shine, and I enjoyed the romance and the world and got choked up all over the place. I recommend book 1, His Reluctant Omega Mate (also in need of a line edit, but, great emotion!), to read first, a) because it’s equally enjoyable and b) to learn these characters’ back stories and the full scope of the current conflict.

Heroes Jasper—a fox shifter—and Dakota—a bear shifter—have obstacles between them before they even meet, with Jasper’s heartbreaking past, separation from his son (a hero of book 1), and abusive past forced mating, and Dakota’s past lost love and recent strong friendship with Jasper’s son. They both have a lot to overcome, Jasper most of all, and the way Jasper continually flees from Dakota due to fear of being abused by an alpha plus other overwhelming circumstances causes them both to suffer. They have a lot to work through, but the fated-mate bond won’t be denied. Which soon enough gets them into close proximity while there’s still a delicious lot to work through! I ate it up.

Jasper needs a hug AND a kick in the rear, and Dakota just needs all the hugs, but, I was rooting for these two even when I wanted to strangle Jasper (even as I reveled in his prickly self), and I was delighted to read their story. Seeing many of the previous loved characters from book 1, including Kade (Jasper’s son) and Blake (Kade’s man), plus meeting Jasper’s young daughter Angelica and experiencing her love for everyone, created a warm and rewarding read. Some unexpected new arrivals in the second half built out more of the world and its magic system.

Wonderful warm found family, archaic surrounding packs, and an insidious new threat add emotional layers and danger to the conflict, plus subplots that will lead to more books in this strong world. It’s not perfect, but it sure is juicy sexy good fun and entirely entertaining and romantic.

HEA, alpha-beta-omega shifters world, Mpreg, fated mates, rejected mate, no cheating or emotional cheating (yay!), strong emotional romance. Recommended.

Thank you to Gay Romance Reviews for the ARC; this is my free and impartial opinion.

To me, this is not a standalone story and should be read after the first one as there are some spoilers for the previous story plus quite a bit of crossover. I wasn't sure on my feelings for Dakota until he took such good care of Kade in His Reluctant Omega Mate. To be fair, this could've had the same title with Jasper being even more difficult in Kade in accepting his fated mate. There's a fair amount to unpack in this story as Jasper is definitely still held back by the trauma he endured with his abusive ex-mate. Dakota understandably is both patient, hurt, and angry over a lot of Jasper's early actions and I really felt for him as he was stuck without closer for quite a bit of time. While I got that Jasper was acting out due to his history, I still didn't care for him until he started to show a real acceptance to change. Yes he was seeing a therapist, but to me he wasn't open to bettering himself or his situation really until about halfway through. Once he was in it though, Jasper definitely felt like a happier character. The heat between these two is pretty high...maybe a 4 out of 5 on the hotness scale.

On top of Dakota feeling rejected multiple times, there's the stress of the beta disease. I liked this as a plot point and thought it was a clever way to introduce new characters. To me, there was a bit much of Jasper fighting fate, but the pace did always keep moving forward. There's quite a few characters and some that we don't really get to meet quite yet. I really want Hiroshi's story...and I'm kind of hoping that he, his betas, and Roan might get together. Overall, this was a bit of an emotional roller coaster and I did enjoy the ride. It feels like there a few stories lined up and I can't wait to see what else is in store for the Sweetwater Pack!

Not all smooth sailing again for the next fated mates

I loved Dakota, after a rocky start, in His Reluctant Omega Mate. He grew on me as more about him and his sweet and caring nature was revealed until, at the end, he was one of my favourite characters. I also loved his parents and I'm so glad they had more page time. All three of them were the loveliest family and seeing them together, it was obvious why Dakota was such a good person.
Jasper was not top of my list at all. I know he had a lot of PTSD from his past relationship but the way he treated Dakota was horrid, and all his vacillating and making things worse between them at every turn drove me nuts. I really didn't warm to him until much later in the book, and even then it was lukewarm at best. I didn't particularly like his justification for his hesitance either because of the damage he was causing to everyone involved.
Dakota was a much better person and, as it turns out, a much better parent. His friendship with Kade easily morphed in stepdad and stepson without a pause, and Angelica took to him instantly. He thought of them as his own as soon as he realised Jasper was his fated mate, and the love and affection between them was so natural. His parents also welcomed them as family too, which was lovely to see.
We were treated to a decent amount of page time for the characters we met in the previous book, with Kade and Blake, Axel, Chase, Deke and Roan all featuring along with new characters, in the other storyline woven cleverly around the romance. I love it when a series has a story arc that spans the series and this book pushed on apace with the plotline already established. Lots of tension throughout, new people appearing and integrating into the pack, danger close to home, everything kept me on my toes and completely absorbed. Axel, Chase, Deke and Roan are definite favourites now and I can't wait for the next book.

3 Stars - I adored Dakota in the first book of this series, and I wanted to love this book so bad! Unfortunately, it didn't quite hit the mark for me. This is supposed to be a romance, but for the majority of the book, the MCs aren't together. We get plenty of steamy scenes when they do meet up, but we went from absolutely not, to all in, to being separated when they wanted to be together. There wasn't much of an actual budding relationship, which I was expecting after their initial interactions.

I liked Dakota in the first book, but I absolutely love him after reading this. He is such a sweetheart and will do absolutely anything to protect his family. And Jasper's kids immediately become family, even while Jasper is rejecting their bond. It was a bit harder to get a good read on Jasper, but he really grew on me as the book progressed. He's had some horrible experiences that made him make some incorrect snap judgements. But he is able to realize his past is coloring his thoughts and gives people a true chance. Kade and Blake return in this book, as well as some of the other secondary characters from the first book. We actually get to see a lot more of Axel, Chase, and Deke in this book. I've got some thoughts on who they may end up paired with, and I'm curious to see if I'm correct.

Overall, a decent addition to the series. I wasn't a huge fan of some of the plot on this one, but I'm interested to see where the overall story arc is heading.

I received and ARC of this book from Gay Romance Reviews and this is my honest opinion.

“Ugh. My fox was furious with that thought. Our poor mate couldn’t be treated in such a poor manner. He wasn’t at our beck and call. He was a strong alpha bear, and we’d hurt his feelings with our callous rejections. My fox reminded me that Dakota has insisted we’d have to beg. My c_ck thickened at the idea of being on my knees for my mate.”

I love how complicated both of these characters are. They are not as easy to love as other characters in this series, but I do indeed love them! Jasper in particular is one of my favourite characters and it breaks my heart that it feels like other characters are so hard on him. He has been through so much abuse of all forms and having to be in hiding for so many years, I believe his caution and somewhat surely character makes sense given all of his trauma. As for Dakota, I think he is perfect for Jas, although I had some reservations about him from book one. But we come to know him better in book two and understand who his is and why he behaves the way he does. And it melts my heart to see the kind of father he is!

The first half really deals with these two figuring it out. I’m so glad they do it in time to deal with the chaos of what is about to happen to this world. The author has really built this amazing and intricate universe that I’m completely obsessed with. And the direction this book took nearly broke my heart. So. Many. Tears. But what an ending!

I can’t wait until the next book in this series.

2.5 stars... this book was a lot. As in, a lot more than should have been in a single book. The pacing was wayyyyyy off and the author's attempt to weave in what are clearly congruent storylines from future books as well as overlapping the first in series were epically off putting. On top of that, the entire premise and . Overall, this book felt like the attempt of a newer author to bite off a lot more than they could chew... but having said that, it's an author with a lovely, imaginative bent toward world building, and I hope they keep writing and refining their craft to the point that they can take on a big world and overarching plot like this while also making the individual stories satisfying in a way that neither this nor the first book were to me. IMHO, this author shows a lot of promise to put out great books in the future, but this series is not it for me. With all the blatant hints about the next in series already peppered in this one and the pacing issues already present, I'm not currently planning on picking it up - I don't see how there would be any good surprises in it at this point - but I may keep my eye out for what they do in the future.

I couldn’t wait to read Dakota and Jasper’s story after reading the first book. Dakota’s character was so caring for Kade-looking out for him and taking on a caretaker role for him. I was so happy that he was getting his own story and hopefully a HEA of his own! If you didn’t love his character after reading the first book, you will absolutely love his character after this one. Still so very much the caretaker and giving of himself to others. Adore his character!

Jasper’s character is coming from a place of mistrust having been is a terrible relationship for so many years. Living life in hiding with guards has created such barriers that he’s willing to forgo a bond with Dakota. Lots of angst in this book between the two MCs-will Jasper get out of his own way and accept happiness? Such a good read. Without giving any spoilers, I thought the issues with the pack storyline was interesting and definitely added to the romance portion of the book and created an additional angsty layer of drama between the two MCs.

I am looking forward to Roan’s book-I have my guesses as to his mate and can’t wait to see if my guess is correct. I received an early copy of this book and this is my honest and fair review.

All the stars are for Dakota. None are for Jasper, who demonstrated nothing like the maturity a man of his age and life experience should exhibit. he acted like a weak omega pretending to be strong to avoid notice by the bad alphas he kept protesting that he was protecting himself from. He was just a coward, and I have no sympathy for him. For half the story, he was not open to change or to learning or healing, but resisted at every turn. He was willing to step outside the bounds of his community's beliefs and practices to feel safe, even at the expense of his fated mate and his children, who deserved the love of a real father figure that Kota represented. And when nature forced him to act, he made the same old excuses for his actions afterward, before suddenly doing an about-face and becoming the omega and father that Kota and Kade needed. I never fully trusted that his transformation to accepting omega wasn't purely physical. The complications and plot twists caused by the mysterious sickness affecting the betas, as well as the other unseen issues that crop up, add interest to the story, but really do little to help me like Jasper any better, and even they began to become somewhat unbelievable after a while.

Jasper and Dakota's Story

💙 What to Expect 💙:

*MM romance 🏳️‍🌈
*Fated Mates
*FoxShifter x Bearshifter🦊🐻
*Paranormal world
*Medium Level Angst 💧
*Found Family
*Knotting
*Mpreg
*Talk of an illness 🥹
*HEA🎊

💙 Things I loved 💙:

- Getting to know Jasper. I empathized and wanted to see him recover from the pain of his relationship with his abusive ex.

- The way Dakota doted on Angelica. She is his daughter, blood means nada.

- I love nesting scenes so much. But the nesting scenes with Kade and Jasper were so endearing to read. The words Jasper whispered to Kade were special and showed insight into the ABO system in this world.

🍏🦊 A Spicy Quote I loved 🦊🍏:

"Jasper sat confidently on the counter, my knot tying him to me, as he sipped water and ate the fruit I handed to him. Playfully, he grabbed some pieces of a crisp green apple and hand fed me."

love

This is the Continuation of the first book. You do need to have read the first book to understand what is happening. Both MC’s have a big part in the first book. I loved this. Two hurt men. Who had partners who have left them hurt in different ways learning that they are each other’s mates. They must learn to let the walls down in order to love each other. I love that this isn’t an insta mate story. I love that they had to really work at their love. I love how one MC isn’t perfect but by the end of it I’m rooting for him. This book took me through the emotions I tell you. The writing was good the smexy was great and the side characters well I can’t wait for their books. I’m also very intrigued about what could possibly be happening the back ground plot. PS shout out to sticking to one’s story of not needing or wanting a sexual partner. Happy Ace week.
