Vlasov Bratva #1

Arrogant Monster

Rate this book
I just crashed my car in the middle of nowhere.
Luckily for me, someone showed up to save me.
Unluckily for me, that person is a runaway criminal.

Daniil Vlasov.
He’s six and a half feet of blue-eyed broodiness.
He won’t tell me a single thing about who he is or what he’s doing out here.
But it doesn’t take a genius to realize this man screams danger.

I do the only thing I can do: play along.
That’s how I end up as his fake fiancé.
That’s how I end up camping in the woods on a fake honeymoon.
That’s how I end up in his arms—experiencing something that is extremely NOT fake, if you know what I mean.

And then, in the morning…
He’s gone.

Or so I thought.
But ten years later, there he is again: my husband for a night.
And—although he doesn’t know it yet…
The father of our baby.

Arrogant Monster is Book 1 of the Vlasov Bratva duet. The story continues in Book 2, Arrogant Mistake.

disappointing

I’ve never read a Nicole Fox book and not sure I’ll read another. This sounded so good. The beginning was good. Hooked me right in and then towards the middle it just lost steam. Kinsley is just a wreck. Spoilers ahead: Yes Daniil left her after a one night stand and she didn’t know his last name so when she came up pregnant she couldn’t contact him. However, when she does find him she doesn’t tell him about his daughter. She keeps it a secret and at the same time she’s rude and plain ugly to him. Then Daniil takes his daughter to a “daddy/daughter” dance and he leaves his daughter to have sex with Kinsley and their daughter is kidnapped. Then Daniil is surprised his father/the don has stolen his daughter. Daniil is the WORST Mafia Don EVER. The conversations are stilted and forced. The child talks like she’s an adult. This isn’t a good book but the story line is there and could be fixed.

The heroine had to be stupid in order for this book to work. She gets in a car with a complete stranger and not only does she camp out in the woods with him, she has sex with him too. AFTER finding out that he just broke out of jail!! Then she's upset when she wakes up the next morning and he's gone. Ol girl fell in love at first sight it seems because she was really upset that he left without saying goodbye. And she pined after him for years. But she blames it on abandonment issues. I'm not going to call her a bad mom because she really was trying. Her daughter was being bullied at school and she was doing her best but I felt she could've done better. Therfore, she didn't make a big deal out of it once she found out that her baby's daddy is a Don of a Russian Bratva. She's basically takes his word for it when he tells her they're safe and in his protection even though he has enemies. Guess what happens at the end of the book? The daughter gets kidnapped by one of his enemies at the school's dance!! Some protection he is! 🙄😒 I will not waste my time reading the second book. Imma just assume they loved happily ever after

2-2.5 stars. I just don't know about this one. The female character allows a stranger to get into her car after he saves her from drowning and makes her be an alibi for him. I should be red flag number one in red flag number 2 comes after he tells her he just broke out of jail. But does she listen to her head no, she jumps on his dick. For 10 years she's been whining and pining after him. She keeps rehashing the fact that he left without saying goodbye. Yes we all know she has abandonment issues. She didn't have a good life being raised by a father who constantly beat her mother and a mother who wasn't there because of that. And then dealing with her mother's suicide. And she in the mail character reconnect after 10 years, all she does is throw it in his face that he left without saying goodbye and she doesn't tell him that he's a father. Another red flag goes up when he tells her that he's in the Russian Mob and she's okay with that, really?? Oh yeah he tells her he can protect her and their daughter but while the rest of the daughter Daddy dance, guess what she gets kidnapped the daughter I mean. He's supposed to be a dom and he has no protection? I also thought a leader of the Russian mob is not called a dom. I really didn't like him that much either. He was a little too arrogant for his own good and the way he treated her kind of rubbed me the wrong way. And don't get me started on her friend. She wouldn't be my friend. Don't know if I'm going to read the second book if it's going to be like this book. I've tried to read other books by Ms. Fox and now I know why I quit reading them.

Goodness, this was boring! Plot was tiresome and pretty much dragged to the last page... seriously ms fox needs to quit with the duets and focus her energy into one meaningful book!

Nicole Fox's books have been circling a lot in the Facebook readers' groups I'm a part of as well as BookTok/TikTok. One of my guilty pleasures is dark mafia romance reads. I really enjoyed reading this book! Nicole's books are mainly duets, great for me because these days, it is difficult for me to commit to a series. And I'm so glad I came across an author who writes secret baby/pregnancy romances! I know that some readers are not huge fans of this trope, but personally, I absolutely love it!! Add mafia into the mix, and it's perfect!

Anyway, let's get back on track. I've been reading a lot of new to me authors lately. Vlasov Bratva duet is Kinsley and Daniil's story.  Abruptly leaving on the day of her wedding Kinsley is a "runaway bride". Breaking out of prison, Daniil is a fugitive on the run. After crashing her car, on the brink of a bridge, Kinsley loses her footing, causing her to fall into a river. Out of nowhere, Daniil dives in to save her. She needs to get away, and he needs an alibi. Kinsley agrees because what other choice does she have? They spent the night together, but by morning, Daniil disappeared. Ten years later, they unexpectedly meet again.

Overall, I liked the flow of the storyline, an easy book to read. Kinsley has fears and demons from her past, a bit of resentment and abandonment issues. But she's trying her best to be a single mother, raising her 9 year old daughter, Isla. Daniil is more powerful than ever; he is the "Don" of his own Bratva. I love Daniil and Isla's dialogues! Despite the recent discovery, Daniil is good with his daughter; he understands her. Isla is wise beyond her years, and my heart broke for her. No child should experience bullying. Daniil was mysterious and secretive, and this frustrated Kinsley. Eventually, Kinsley found out who he is.  Please note it ends on a cliffhanger!

This is a well written slow burn romance between Kinsley and Daniil. The author brings strong characters with a hot chemistry, an entertaining banter, secrets and drama. It's an action packed story with danger and intrigue and had me glued to the pages from beginning to end. The story moves fluidly with detailed and descriptive scenes and is an intriguing read. Loved and recommend this book.

I have literally no clue why I picked up this book. It has all the tropes I normally don’t go for. Kids, mafia, alpha-hole etc. I found myself not minding them too much in this book though, not my fave still but for a book that on paper I should have hated this kinda was a bop.

This is a fast-paced mafia read with loads of action and steam. Kinsley runs from her wedding day and ends up crashing the car and almost dies. She is rescued by Daniil who is also on the run from his prison cell and he needs an alibi. They share a steamy night together and then he is gone. What will happen when he shows up again 10 years later? Great characters with sizzling chemistry and an entertaining story. I liked it.

I usually enjoy Nicole Fox’s books. This duet was no exception! I inhaled it. If you are a reader like me, that enjoys a MMC that fights with everything in him to resist the connection, then this duet is definitely for you.

Kinsley was not expecting that when she ran from her wedding, she was going to encounter a hot and dark stranger that was going to change her life.

Daniil tied his destiny with Kinsley when he decided to save her and no matter how much time passed or how much he resisted they were bound to crash into each other.

I really enjoyed this book! First book I’ve read of Nicole’s and I loved this book so far. I can’t wait for the second one to find out what happens, and that actually surprised me I’m not normally one for multiple books you have to read to get the full story but I am looking forward to the next book! Highly recommend! 10/10.

Entertaining enough for dialogue fans, but...

...if you prefer a little more substance to your mafia romances, a bit more meat to chew on, then you may not find this book sufficient. Even if you're a fan of lots of mindless sex, this book won't appease you there either, as there are only two of them, both short-lived. The second sex scene was astronomically tacky, out-of-place, and pissed me off to no end, but more on that later. In my opinion, this story overall is rather tame in more ways than it isn't, nothing too ramped up enough to be mind-blowing, yet still not boring enough to purge even the smallest measure of interest. It was an easy read that kept my attention to the point of wanting to keep going for the sake of satiating my curiosity, so...that's saying something.

The story is simple to follow: A distraught, runaway bride (Kinsley) finds herself in a state of peril, nearly succumbing before she is rescued by a mysterious stranger (Daniil). Kinsley is flamboyant, vulnerable, and edgy. She's got some spunk and snark that's mostly fun, but often a bit on the annoying side. Daniil is stoic, brooding, and arrogant. He's of course hot and alpha and blah, blah, blah, but his deadly serious nature makes for some highly entertaining comedic timing. The two of them meet, form an obscure bond in more ways than one, and then Daniil, unexpectedly, disappears altogether. For ten years. Needless to say, the inevitable reunion and subsequent interactions are colorful and entertaining for sure. Conversationally speaking, anyway. Their banter was definitely great.

But ya know, a girl's got complaints. The story, while entertaining, is still quite flimsy. Uneventful. There really isn't anything that happens beyond getting to know Kinsley and Daniil at a snail's pace. You get a tiny taste of the Bratva life, though nothing overly thorough. I'm all for character-building as I feel it's important, but...it doesn't mean I don't crave other things too. What I REALLY hated was the idiocy of the second of the two sex scenes I mentioned earlier. It was clearly meant to be some "hot" moment between the lovers but ended up backfiring due to the asinine circumstances that led up to it. No spoilers but I'll at least say this much: Kinsley and Daniil both displayed some godawful judgement just for some trashy sex, and it was impossible to overlook. If you're curious my thoughts on the entire thing, then click here.

Since this book is not a stand-alone, and the stupid circumstances around the second sex scene forcibly sprung the story's 3rd act into cliffhanger territory, I intend to go onward to see what happens. We'll see what else can leave me disgruntled.

A passionate, captivating, enthralling and steamy love story that will pull at your heartstrings. It is a must read book. This one is a real nail biter of a read...full of action, adventure, intrigue and mystery.
I loved they way they came together so smoothly. The scenes are so graphic and vivid it's easy to picture each scenario as it plays off one another beautifully.
Daniil and Kinsley were just made for each other...

Nicole Fox can weave a tale. This one is not so consistent and not so compelling. Parts of it are boring.
And Kinsley is rude, annoying, hair trigger tempered and seriously obstinate and mulish. (When did this become a standard for a strong heroine? I hate it. )
Pretty predictable story. You know early on, once they reconnect, that someone will be stolen. The only question is one of them or both of them.
And how stupid can Daniil be? He was told his every move was being watched, but he had no clue Kinsley and Isla could be in danger?
Anyway, on to book two.

Questionable Scenarios

Nine year old girl communicates like a nineteen year old. Kingsley meets her daughter's father but does not tell him about his child for a long time. Kingsley and Daniil met when she was a runaway bride. They had one night stand as Daniil was an escaped prisoner and they did not reconnect for ten years but seem to live in the same city or town. Convoluted? Definitely .
Daniel has enemies due to Bratva business but he and Kingsley leave their daughter in gymnasium and go to other part of a school to have sex, cuddle and talk in a biology lab. Great parenting. Of course the girl, Isla is abducted during their absence so we move on to book two. Absorbing read if you overlook credibility. Author has ability to weave a tale.

This book was fantastic. I really liked how they laid out Kinsley & Daniils story. I also liked that it wasn't just a ton of sex. Literally two small scenes. One at the beginning & one at the end.

This is the first part of the Vlasov Bratva Duet and focuses on Danil Vlasov and Kinsley Whitlaw. When we first meet them both are running, Danil from prison and Kinsley from her wedding. It’s fair to say their initial meeting rocks their world and they definitely make a lasting impression on each other. Danil needs help evading the police and an alibi and Kinsley needs a distraction from the unholy mess her life has become after narrowly avoiding tying herself to a Tom a man much like her abusive father. The chemistry between Kinsley and Danil is so so hot and they just get lost in each other for a few hours in the woods. Unfortunately Danil is gone when Kinsley wakes up, which is devastating for Kinsley and she gets lost in the Dark Times for a while…. But there is light at the end of the tunnel as that encounter does have lasting consequences.

Both have complicated family histories and relationships and the intervening ten years has had quite the impact on Kingsley and Danil. With Danil setting out on his own and building his own business and Bratva, he will bow to no man ever again. While Kingsley has established her career and is bringing up her nine year old daughter Isla with the support of her best friend Emma.

Danil and Kingsley literally crash into each other once again (she really needs to go do a driving refresher course or just give up her license) and once she’s back in his orbit there is no way Danil is letting Kingsley go again and the discovery of his daughter well that just cements that he’s going nowhere. I loved that Danil is all in and the way he is with Isla is a joy. It’s clear that Isla has been struggling for some time but with his quiet manner he just gives Isla the time and space to be her own person and boy does she blossom. Isla was initially quite fragile and insecure about not having a father but Danil coming back into her life well let’s just say he’s come back into her life at the right time.

The attraction between Kingsley and Danil is scorching and has only grown with time, no one matches up to what they experienced ten years ago. That being said it’s not all sunshine and roses, both are stubborn and neither is willing to give an inch. Both Kinsley and Danil have experienced very traumatic childhoods that have shaped their world so while it’s clear they have a very strong connection how do they navigate their feelings for each other while managing their expectations and protecting their daughter. Both from Danil’s enemies and Isla’s bullies and any fallout from their relationship.

This is such a well written story, the characters are sublime and you’re drawn into Kingsley and Danil’s world. While you’re rooting for them to get their act together the slow reveal of Danil’s Bratva and who he really is and how this impacts on both Kingsley and Isla is quite nuanced. Danil is dark and mysterious and Kingsley is no pushover but can they withstand the danger that Danil has brought into Kingsley and Isla’s lives when his enemies discover his weaknesses. I loved the banter between Danil and Kingsley as well as the secondary characters of Emma and Danil’s right hand man Petro. I mean Petro is most definitely a one off and the characters development is on point, he definitely gives the book some light relief. This story ends on a cliffhanger and it’s quite the doozy… the good news is that you can dive right into the next book straight away. I loved this story and highly recommend it.

Arrogant Monster is book one of the Vlasov Bratva duet. The story continues in Book 2, Arrogant Mistake. It's dark, raw, intense and gripping. The characters are compelling and flawed. This story grabs you right from start and keeps you on a rollercoaster ride with it's non-stop twists and turns all the way until that jaw-dropping cliffhanger. It's brilliantly written and great storyline that captures the audience and keeps them turning the pages. Arrogant Mistake contains violence, heat, lies, tension, danger, deception, revelations, threat, secrets, bullying, banter, humor, anger, lust, passion, surprises, pawn, surprise pregnancy, insta-lust, steam, forced proximity, revenge, enemies, adventure, abduction, physical abuse, love and so much more. This is Daniil and Kinsley story.
Kinsley is the fiancee of Tom and they're scheduled to get married. They got into an argument and he hit her. Kinsley didn't want any part of that kind of marriage after growing up watching her mother being abuse by her dad so she took off running in the honeymoon car. She wasn't paying attention and almost hit a couple of cars but ended up hitting the bridge instead. She gets out of the wreck car but trip and fall from the wedding dress ending up in the river, lucky for her someone saw when she went over and is about to drown. Enter Daniil Vlasov an escape prisoner who have been in prison for fourteen months he saved her life. He's on the run from the authorities and he's looking for an alibi and thought she would make the perfect alibi. The two spend a passionate night together. But when she wake up the next morning he was gone.
He left a piece of him when the two pink lines came up on the pregnancy test. Kinsley doesn't have any family but her best friend Emma. She thought she wouldn't see Daniil again. He could forget that night nor the woman. Fast forward ten years later Daniil is driving when a car crosses the road into his lane and wreck her car and it none other than Kinsley. Daniil has now become the Don of the Vlasov Bratva and is also at war with the man who send him to his rival Gregor who is the Don of the Semenov Bratva. When Daniil gets out of his to render aid he was shocked to Kinsley again and that she had a daughter. How will Daniil react to the news that he's a father? Will he want to be apart of his daughter's life? Will Daniil be able to keep his new found family from his enemies? Will Kinsley and Daniil get their HEA? Will Kinsley find out that Daniil is the Don of Vlasov Bratva?

Buckle up this is a wild ride, dangerous men, alpha’s personified, possessive, oh, so gorgeous, brooding all the makings of a story consisting with three D’s (dark, delicious, and dirty) 😊. There will be suspense, betrayal, death, darkness, secrets reveled, violence, hope, forgiveness, and maybe even love (ALL THINGS TO EXPECT FROM THE MAFIA WORLD). By the time you’ve figured out who is who and what is what, you’re already hooked, and you may as well give up the fight and prepare yourself for an all-nighter!
CAN’T SAY YOU WEREN’T WARNED!
Kinsley is intelligent at her wedding which was supposed to be the happiest day but for her all it did was make her run for her freedom, to not be abused like her mother (which had already started) her life but didn’t realizing she jumped right out of the frying pan into the fire so to speak because when she nearly dies by drowning but she is saved by the one man she should have kept running from. Daniil sexy as all get out bratva who escaped after been locked up for over a year which is where he sees a woman drowning which he isn’t going to allow on his watch, so he saves her and he know immediately she is the women for him but to convince her well now that is going to take some work. He was on the run because he didn’t do as he was told when he was told and how he was told against some powerful people so that landed him in prison but if they thought he was a monster before going in well they haven’t seen anything yet and now that he has his fake wife which she pretends to be to keep him out of prison or being sent make incidentally she feels safe around him truth be told he isn’t going to let her go and no mater how many times she tells herself she hates him the more her body proves her wrong each time he is in the same room or he touches her, or compliments her, or protect her when he doesn’t have to her mind and body war with one another. They say it is a thin line between love and hate and these two make a believer out of us, but she realizes she needs her monster and he realizes he needs her to keep him grounded but is it enough, will her ex. fiancé come after her, will her father come after her, will those who had him locked up come after him, of course they will but will he be ready, and can their be a HEA for the two of them as they have been through so much.

I love this runaway bride meets a dark and mysterious man after she crashes her car and fall into the river. Daniil Vlasov has just escaped prison and see the accident and the young woman drowning from the weight of her wedding dress. He saves her and then he sees an opportunity for an alibi with a beautiful young woman, Kinsley Whitlow. They have an instant attraction, and the chemistry is explosive, but when she wakes up the next morning he’s gone, he’s disappeared, and she soon finds herself pregnant. Ten years later they have another encounter beginning with a car crash, here’s the one-woman Daniil has never been able to forget and she’s right in front of him madder than a hornet at him for disappearing on her before.
Daniil soon realizes he has a daughter he never knew about. I love how he wants to be in his daughter, Isla’s life, he’s not running away or ghosting her like he did her mother. Isla is a sweet kid who’s having bulling problems at school, a father daughter dance is fast approaching, and she’s always wondered why her father never came around. I love how her mother is so protective, but she soon sees how much Isla has missed out on and how she longs for some answer about her father, a father she thinks abandoned her a fact she finds out he never knew about her.
A captivating story as the mystery of Daniil and his secrets are slowly revealed, he always says she’s asking the wrong question, but does she really want to more about him, what and where he’s been in the last ten years, his Russian Bratva and the man who sent him to prison. He tries to keep them safe and away from Bratva business, until someone discovers his weakness and lives are on the line at the conclusion of this story. I love Kinsley's best friend Emma she's been there all the way; she's been there to support Kinsley and Isla right from the start, she's the voice of reason when Kinsley needs it.
You'll love his second in command Petro, he’s definitely the funny comic relief guy with the witty banter between him and Daniil. This book is part of a duet, and I can’t wait to read book two “Arrogant Mistake”. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Welcome to the world of the Vlasov Bratva!! Once again Nicole takes us on a crazy, dark, steamy, dangerous, action-filled adventure with this one! Very very well written, you will be intrigued from start to finish, such an engaging book to the point you won't be able to put it down until you finish it.. literally. Just beware of the cliffy.. the good news is you won't have to wait long for the next book though! :)

Runaway bride meets hot, broody, dark, enigma of a man after a car accident where she falls into the river. Oh and did I mention that this man just escaped from prison?

Daniil Vlasov and Kinsley Whitlas have this instant attraction from when they first meet each other. Love at first sight through and through. And that's saying something, especially considering the circumstances in which they meet. They are both running from something and Danii needs an alibi as he is running from the police, and Kinsley needs something to take her mind of her very horrible life. After getting lost in each other for hours on end, Kinsley wakes up to find herself pregnant and alone, Daniil having disappeared on her.

Ten years later, fate brings them back together again in yet another crazy car accident, and what do you know.. the crazy attraction and chemistry between them is of course still there (because they're obviously soulmates duh). Kinsley is shocked of course at first, and realizes that she has a big secret that he is not aware of. She soon finds out that Daniil's leads a very dangerous lifestyle and fears what that could mean for her and her daughter, Isla. Daniil wants to spend time with Kinsley and be in her life again, while Kinsley tries to avoid him and keep him an arms length away so that she doesn't get hurt again. When he finds out about his daughter, oh my god... it is literally magical.. beautiful. He is so sweet and just so so perfect... watching him with Isla is a beautiful sight to behold through and through.

The storyline is really quite perfect and the secrets and mystery in the air will have you captivated all the way. I am ITCHING for the next book, but Nicole never makes us wait too long so it's not THAT bad of a wait I guess haha. Cannot wait for the next one and highly recommend picking this up if you have not done so yet!

"Over a year in captivity reduces a man to his most animalistic instincts. But I know in my marrow that's not true. It isn't because she IS a woman. It's because she's THIS woman."

Runaway bride Kinsley accidentally falls into a rushing river in her wedding dress, only to be saved by an escaping convict/bratva member Daniil. They spend one steamy night hiding out in her car and in the morning Kinsley wakes up by herself. Fast forward ten years the duo reunite when Kinsley almost crashes head on into Daniil's car. Neither Daniil or Kinsley has been able to find anyone in the decade since they spent one night together to compare to the other. However, Kinsley is keeping their nine year old daughter a secret from him.

"About nine years old. She looks like my mother."

Of course being a Bratva Don, Daniil figures out that Kinsley has a child and that it is his.

The secondary characters consist of Isla, their daughter, who is a sweet but somewhat sad little girl. Kinsley's every loyal friend Emma and Daniil's right hand man Petro. These two bring some comical relief to the book and make for very interesting characters that could easily be developed into a book of their own.

If you are looking for an action packed Bratva book, you will be disappointed, as this is mostly a love story with a bit of Bratva in the background. This book is a story about two people who come from dysfunctional and abusive parents that found a once in a lifetime special connection 10 years ago and are fumbling around with what exactly to do with it. It is a story about protecting those you love (from enemies or school age bullies) and overcoming your past. Although that all seems pretty heavy, for the most part the books keeps things pretty light which makes for a fairly easy quick read. The book is a duet that ends in a somewhat predictable cliff hanger.

Just WOW! Book 1…

Runaway Bride Kinsley literally crashes the “just married” car and ends up down a riverbank in her heavy white layered wedding dress. She left the abusive fiancée and ran… she doesn’t WANT to drown but the weight of her dress seems to have other plans… until… Daniil Vlasov has escaped from prison.this tall, dark and extremely handsome ‘jailbird” sees the damsel in distress and jumps in to save her. Literally. Now he just needs an alibi to keep the police who are hunting for him at bay. Is Kinsley willing to help him? She of the sparking and mesmerizing green eyes? Will their one night, stuck hidden in her car be just a moment in time? Come morning what will they do? NOTHING. Daniil, still just a stranger with mesmerizing sapphire blue eyes, is gone. Poof. No good bye, nothing. Fast forward 10 years and once again Kinsley, not the world’s best driver nearly totals her mini into a really expensive car…. Which is driven by, Daniil..don of the Vlasov Bratva. And Kinsley has a secret….which she honestly couldn’t share when she had no idea who the escapee was 10 years prior and that secret is HIS!
Ms Fox has created flawed, sensitive, witty characters.. Kinsley ran from her wedding. Her fiancé was verbally abused her and had smacked her. All she knew was she had to get away from him. She was not paying attention when she was driving between crying, freaking out, and making sure no one was following her, she crashed the car. As she was getting out of the car she slide down the bank of the river and fell into the river. With her wedding dress on it was heavy and she was being dragged down under the water. She had accepted that she was going to die. She woke up cough out water and found the most handsome man had rescued her.
Daniil had just escaped jail and was hiding in the woods because the police were searching for him. He happened to find Kinsley in the river and pulled her out. Once he knew she was going to be okay they got into her car and started driving. She found out that he was the one that the police was looking for, but she felt safe with him. As they were talking she asked questions to figure out who he was but he never gave her a straight answer. She said that he was speaking in riddles. As they were hiding in the woods until the police presence died down, Kinsley opened up more and was getting more frustrated with Danill as he would not do the same. She felt a pull to him and she got on his lap and he gave her one of the best orgasms in her life. Afterwards, he insisted that she’d get some sleep in the following morning when she woke up, he was gone.
It had been ten years and she was driving and was ran off the road. When she got out to confront the other driver she was shocked to see it was Daniil. She never forgot about him as he was the father of her daughter. Will she tell him he is the father? What will she do to find out he is a Don of a Bratva?
I really enjoy Nicole’s book. This is book one and the cliff hanger made me start reading book two right away.

Have I mentioned that I hate duets? One of my least favorite things is a cliffhanger. I want everything wrapped up in a nice, neat, HEA package. I have made an exception for Ms Fox and her mafia duets. I can't help it. The stories, the banter, the swoony alphahole heroes.... it all works for me.
It took me a while to warm up to Kinsley. I loved her in the beginning, when her life derails and Daniil literally pulls her from a river. She was lost and vulnerable and unable to resist him.
Fast forward ten years and she's trying her best to be everything to her nine year old daughter. Single parenting isn't for sissies, and I get that, but she's just so... PRICKLY... and not in the cute, funny way. I've been through some shit, too, girl, and I don't have a huge chip on my shoulder.
Anyway.... all that aside, this is a terrific story. Daniil is one cool customer. Seriously, the man must be made of ice because NOTHING flusters him. Not even finding out he has a daughter.
I LOVED him with Isla. The scene where they met and got to know each other... Gah. He was bossy and a jerk and super sexy and the only thing that would have made me love him more was if he was willing to acknowledge his feelings to Kinsley. Obviously she means something to him, and not just as the mother of his child. But he's so emotionally closed that it takes him a long time to give in to actual feelings instead of just protectiveness and lust.
This book ends on one heck of a cliffhanger, and the only reason I'm not M.A.D. is because I have book two already downloaded on my kindle!.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Arrogant Monster, book one in the Vlasov Bratva duet by Nicole Fox is amazing. Can a dark, Bratva romance also be a romcom? I think so!

After her fiancé hits her, Kingsley realizes at the last possible moment the huge mistake she’s about to make, so she grabs the honeymoon getaway car and hits the road. After she wrecks the car, she gets out to inspect the damage and falls into a raging river. As her wedding dress is sucking her down into the water, a man appears and pulls her to safety. Daniil is an escaped convict, and takes Kingsley on the run so she can be his alibi if they’re stopped by the police. The two feel drawn to one another and have s•x that night. When Kinsley wakes up in the morning, Daniil is gone. Kinsley — and the little surprise he’s left her with — won’t see Daniil for ten years.

This book has everything. It’s a bit dark, a bit edgy as a Bratva romance would be, but it’s also really funny with two excellent best friends. Kinsley and Daniil banter and bicker, there is what you might call a meet-cute, so I would label this a “Bratva romcom.” That’s not to say it doesn’t have it’s dark moments, but it’s a perfect mix of genres. The characters and world building are excellent. Kinsley has a fear of abandonment. I think something traumatized Daniil in the past, but I’m not sure what. Kinsley’s nine-year-old daughter Isla is perfectly written as a kid with insecurities. I cannot praise this book enough!

Arrogant Monster is part one of a duet - but both parts are out, so you won’t have to wait to read part two. Please let me know if you read this — I’d love to discuss!
