it was amazing

Arrogant Monster, book one in the Vlasov Bratva duet by Nicole Fox is amazing. Can a dark, Bratva romance also be a romcom? I think so!

After her fiancé hits her, Kingsley realizes at the last possible moment the huge mistake she’s about to make, so she grabs the honeymoon getaway car and hits the road. After she wrecks the car, she gets out to inspect the damage and falls into a raging river. As her wedding dress is sucking her down into the water, a man appears and pulls her to safety. Daniil is an escaped convict, and takes Kingsley on the run so she can be his alibi if they’re stopped by the police. The two feel drawn to one another and have s•x that night. When Kinsley wakes up in the morning, Daniil is gone. Kinsley — and the little surprise he’s left her with — won’t see Daniil for ten years.

This book has everything. It’s a bit dark, a bit edgy as a Bratva romance would be, but it’s also really funny with two excellent best friends. Kinsley and Daniil banter and bicker, there is what you might call a meet-cute, so I would label this a “Bratva romcom.” That’s not to say it doesn’t have it’s dark moments, but it’s a perfect mix of genres. The characters and world building are excellent. Kinsley has a fear of abandonment. I think something traumatized Daniil in the past, but I’m not sure what. Kinsley’s nine-year-old daughter Isla is perfectly written as a kid with insecurities. I cannot praise this book enough!

Arrogant Monster is part one of a duet - but both parts are out, so you won’t have to wait to read part two. Please let me know if you read this — I’d love to discuss!
