I pretty much love everything about this book. I love the rhyming poetry. I love the illustrations. I adore the message.
I picked this up because I thought it might be an appropriate book to read for Father's Day. The students and I were not sure if the You in this book is a father or grandfather.

This book is a celebration of the relationship between grandfathers and their granddaughters, but it also celebrates their differences. Christopher Denise's illustrations of Grandpa Bear and his little sidekick are sweet and expressive, and Kristy Dempsey's simple rhymes illuminate the special bond between the two.

Me with You is one of my favorite loving stories for children. A story which creates a safe place for someone to be themselves. The repetitiveness of the rhymes give the reader a knowing that they are safe.

Illustrations in the book are thoughtful and purposeful. They grow the story and show the emotions which are being portrayed. The love and kindness throughout the story is impeccable.

The most heartwarming book yet. I really connected to this book because of the relationship I have with my grandparents. It is the perfect book to remind my students how they are unique and loved by their family and myself. This book shares simple rhymes that can help when reading to young children or even be used in a rhyming or poetry unit. I loved that the characters were bears, it just added to the cuteness of the story.

This is such a sweet and thoughtful look at what it means to be together (in this case a granddaughter and her grandpa), and how that intersects with identity. What it means to love each other and still be fully unique and ourselves, but TOGETHER, and what that together adds to each identity. But, like, presented in a story for children. So lovely.

This book is one of my favorite children's books I have read. I had not heard of this prior to May of 2018 but it is a very sweet book. It shows a love between a father and son, they are bears, and how dad will always be protective of little bear.

Lovely book that’s been on the shelf for a while but which Au only started picking up recently. Love the rhymes and beautiful illustrations of a baby and (grand?)papa bear spending time together and being themselves, both together and apart.

What a magical book, exquisite artwork from Christopher Denise and the rhyming couplet story is perfectly put together, just beautiful! A celebration of the self, of individuality in parallel to the power of togetherness, of acceptance and love. A real gem!

I absolutely love this picture book. The illustrations are lovely, and the storyline is just beautifully touching. The bond between a child and an important adult in their life is always important and this book brought up some wonderful memories.

I have been remiss in not reviewing this lovely picture book. Kristy Dempsey, who is a LiveJournal friend of mine, first wrote this poem for her husband; now, it is a beautiful picture book featuring a little girl and her grandfather. As you may have guessed from the cover art, the people aren't people, they're bears.

While the book is entitled Me With You, much of the poem is a celebration of the way the people – er, bears – interact with one another. It begins this way:

We're a pair beyond compare,
a rare and special two,
in all the ways that I am me
and you're completely you.

But most of the rest of the poem is in an "I'm me when I do this, while you do that" format. It's kind of a celebration of how sometimes a good relationship enhances the good points about the individuals involved. Perhaps my favorite is:

I'm me on an adventure,
digging treasure from the sand,
and when the path is rocky,
you are there to hold my hand.

The poem is written in rhyme in a form known as a fourteeners (rhymed couplets in which each line has fourteen syllables – usually 7 iambic feet, with the odd exception here and there of a line with only 13 syllables because it began with a single accented syllable in lieu of an iambic foot), which gives it a lovely, rolling feel. Because fourteeners tend to lend themselves to long lines, they are often (as here) split into two lines, alternating four and three iambic feet (8 and 6 syllables each).

Kristy's lovely words are accompanied by marvelous illustrations by Christopher Denise. You can find out more about him and his work in a marvelous interview over at Seven Impossible Things Before Breakfast.

Oh, how sweet.

Little bear is growing up with the guidance of her grandfather.

Told in rhyme, little bear learns that she is she and he is he and together they are a pair.

“We’re a pair beyond compare, a rare and special two, in all the ways that I am me and you’re completely you.“

Beautiful days, grumpy days, or those days in-between, your special someone is there to guide you and to make you feel as important as they are to you.

If only every child could be as fortunate to have a loving grandparent in their lives, what a special pair they would be.

“And though I’ll find new ways of being me my whole life through, my favorite me will always be when I am me with you”.

This is a perfect gift for your child to give to their special grandparent.

An absolutely beautiful book. Comparable to "When I am Old With You" by Angela Johnson, this story of a granddaughter's love for her grandfather is written in sweet rhyme. The story flips from the "When I am Me",..where the little girl talks about visiting camp or swinging, to the "When you are you", where she talks about her grandfather staying home to be who he has to be when he is alone.

The illustrations are sweet and soft, with touching expressions on the faces of the characters. There is a gentle give and take between the strengths of old and young that even the youngest reader(listener)can understand.

Sweet book that can help children who are experiencing separation anxiety during school. Activities to include would be to have students write a family tree on a piece of construction paper and detail a memory with each leaf. Students could also write a sentence on what makes that person special to them. Students could also write a letter to that special family member and let them know why they think they are so special to them. Would be interesting to do this with 2 members of their family and have one sent via email and the othedr using traditional mail. This would expose children to both means of communicating.

This book is so good that I chose to use it for a presentation I have for one of my college classes. I love the illustration in this book. It is so sweet and would be a great story to read to your child to strengthen the bond you have with them. There is good vocabulary in this book. It is great for social-emotional topics because it talks about how not matter what, the baby bear always has the papa bear for support and comfort and they always have fun together. The book outlines a range of emotions as well and discusses how the baby and papa bear deal with those emotions.

What a special book that exemplifies the love between a granddaughter and her grandfather. Their moments are special if it's at a tea time, a baseball game, or even when your ill. Each has their own special time, but nothing can compare when they are together. Christopher Denise's illustrations help to bring each setting alive.

This book makes you feel like you can always have that special someone who will always be there for you no matter what. This story is about a little girl who has a father figure who dearly loves and cares about her. She is most happy when she can be herself with him. He loves her. Even when her days feels black, he would be right there with her. He never gives up on her.

This book is great to use when it is a child's first day at school or program. It is a great way to start conversation about home life. What do you do with your parents? What do you parents do while you are at school or what do your grandparents do while you are at school? It is a great tool to use when taking about family relationships.

Told in rhyme, a little girl explains how she and her grandpa are a great pair, even while being uniquely themselves. Rich color illustrations by Christopher Denise. Great for any relationship to reflect on how we love and support one another -- as friends or relatives -- while maintaining our own individuality. Great for preschoolers through grade 2.

"We're a pair beyond compare" begins the simple rhyming text which portrays the special bond between a little bear and her grandfather. Cozy scenes depict the twosome gardening, singing, and enjoying each other's company. This beautifully illustrated book is meant to be shared by a child and special grown-up.

Loved the beautiful, sweet illustrations. The actual story was sweet although I had to read it a couple of times to really understand the message and "moral". Worth looking at for the pictures though...

I like this book because children can makes connection with the text. For instance, some students may not live in a nuclear family and this is a great way to introduce diversity of family. The tone of the story is also soothing and comforting.
