I tried, I really did but totally lost patience, the humour worked in the first book but is now old hat!! Hope is supposed to be a 30 year old woman but behaved more like she belonged in a school playground as she constantly behaved like a spoilt teenager....and don't start me on the people who live in this town, they are unbelievable thick!! I hate giving up on a book and declaring I can't finish it, but in this case I have to put my hands in the air and surrender :(

*I won this from Goodreads*
"Make Mine a Bad Boy" is the second installment in the Deep in the Heart of Texas series by Katie Lane. I was plesently surprised with this book. When I recived this novel, I thought I would have a hard time reading it all the way through..I guess I judged the book by it's cover and title. I'm now glad I didn't. This novel is full of charm and southren whit, right after I finished (only a few hours after starting it I might add) I was looking for how more novels are in the series.
Why would I be hesitant of a hot cowboy novel, you might ask? Only because I haven't really read in that genre before. Yes, I read Historical, Highlander, Paranormal, YA and Steampunk romances, but I really haven't made it towards Cowboys yet. I'm glad I did though, because it really has a new take on the romance. When I visit Texas(and I will one day.) I hope to be greeted with the famous southern hospitalily I've come to love reading about.

Anyways, on to the actual review.
Hope is the town sweetheart. Everyone loves her and everyone excepts the best of her. No, she's not the quite beauty queen you'd think, she's actually the complete oppisite. Loud mouth, take no crap from nobody, with a heart of gold is Hope and everyone loves her for it. All eyes are always on Hope. Except the man she was expected to Marry.
Hopes highschool sweetheart marry's her TWIN sister. No it doesn't have the kind of drama you'd think, with that happening, but it does make hope upset. I'm glad there wasn't too much emphsas and arguing on that, mostly because she saved all the sas and back talk for Colt.
Colt Lomax is a one of a kind. Here's the shorter decription on him when he first enters the novel:
"But although he had a body that could tempt a Bible banger on Sunday,it was his face that held Hope's attention, a face made up of tanned skin, hard angles, and a thin layer of black stubble."
How could you not be temted to read on, right?
I actually really liked Colt. Yes, he could be a jerk, but it was mostly like a young boy picking on the girl he likes at school. (Which is talked about a bunch in this novel as well. lol)

Over all, I really enjoyed this novel. The tension between Hope and Colt was refreshing. Each time you thought they would finally admit to wanting eachother, the author would throw in a twist. If biker cowboys, lustly scenes and charming southren novels are your thing, then this novel is the one for you!

With this book I found myself really liking all the crazy people of the town, but Hope and Colt's actions not so much. Here they have been attracted to each other since they were kids and being kids they did what normal kids do when they don't know what to do. Colt irritates Hope to no end, while Hope ignores him and runs and dates her BFF, Slate. It didn't help me at all that Hope acted like a spoiled brat, who for the first time in her life, isn't getting her way, while Colt has a chip on his shoulder the size of Texas. Once they both got over each other the book became much better.

This was book two of the "Deep in the heart of Texas" series. Hope Scroggs is finally ready to get hitched. After years of sowing her wild oats, the former head cheerleader and homecoming queen has returned to Bramble, Texas, to marry her high school flame. But her perfect wedding plans are stomped to smithereens when her adoring cowboy two-steps down the aisle with someone else. Faith a twin sister that she didn't know that she had. This was a really good book I loved both the MC's and the secondary character's as well they added to the story. Colt Lomax was a hot sexy bad boy and I loved him. Hope is dealing with a failed acting career and it didn't help to come home to find her sister marrying her high school boyfriend so what does she do. Hope uses Colt as a fall back on plan as she is trying to put the pieces of her life back together. Colt is back helping his sister out. Colt has changed and know one believes him. Hope is carrying a huge secret of her own around as it appears Hope and Colt had run into each other a few months before. One night of passion has turned into the possibility of a lifelong commitment neither is prepared for and not sure they are able to handle. I loved these two together they were perfectly made for each other. This book was well written like the first book in this series with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series

After having read and thoroughly enjoyed Lane's first book in this series, I was really looking forward to Hope's story. Unfortunately it just didn't pan out as well. While it is filled with all the small town wackiness and fun that inhabited the first, what promised to continue in the feisty town sweetheart and the resident bad boy, disintegrated into two people who spent most of the book ridiculing and calling each other nasty names then running away at each sign of trouble. It is hard to sympathize when one's "heroine" is calling the "hero" a good for nothing loser who will never amount to anything every time she sees him - or fall in love with the "hero" when he consistently refuses to step up and take responsibility, choosing to run away each time instead. It all turns out good in the end, however, thanks to Lane's sweet and quirky writing style and the wild antics of the townsfolk.

I really loved the first book in this series "Going Cowboy Crazy" and certainly wasn't disappointed with the second. I'm hoping this author will write more in this series, because there are so many great characters living in the Texas town of Bramble that I'd love to re-visit.

Second in the Deep in the Heart of Texas romance series revolving around the people and history of Bramble, Texas. The couple focus is on Hope Scroggs and Colt Lomax.

My Take
It's inventive, comic, and oddly romantic, although the writing in this one takes a dip. It's like Lane is still working on her writing chops. Of course, it could be simply my disappointment with the character she created in Hope Scroggs. Sure, she's believable as the girl who tries to fulfill everyone's expectations, but that she seriously thought Slate was hers?? No. Nope, I ain't buying that one.

Nor did Lane develop the Hope-Colt affair as well as it could have been. Instead it was silly twists in more of a herk and a jerk than a smooth revelation.I did like how well Lane hid Colt's success, though.

It was obvious when Colt showed up at the reception what would happen, and it was still funny!

Yeah, that bit about Faith and her obsession with hygiene doesn't really work for me either. It feels more like Lane was hunting for something, some weakness for Faith, and the disinfectant OCD seemed like a good idea. I went along with it in Going Cowboy Crazy , 1, but...maybe it just feels more false in this story??

It is cute that Lane uses the truth of the queen of a small town heading to Hollywood to make it big. What's not so cute is how stupid Lane makes the people.

It's cute, fun, and quirky...go for it.

The Story
Oh, no! He was supposed to be hers! Instead Slate Calhoun is marrying some damned Yankee. And Hope is fuming, a state that only gets ramped up when Colt Lomax appears.

It's failure with a capital "F" and coming on top of her time in Hollywood, well, it's a bad combination of emotions for a deposed Hope. Not that Colt is faring much better when confronted by both a town that hates him and a sister who won't let him go.

When word gets out that "our" Hope is knocked up, the suitors come out in droves. With courtin' gifts: boxes of candy, flowers...and a baby pig,

The Characters
Hope "Hog" Scroggs is the darling of Bramble, Texas, who made the town proud. Jenna Jay and Tessa are her younger sisters. Jenna and Burl Scroggs are the very happy parents. Happy to have Hope back from Hollywood, happy to have Faith back as part of the family. Little Pumpkin Seed is the baby's nickname.

Colt Lomax is the town bad boy who left. What no one knows is how successful he's become. Shirlene, Colt's little sister and Hope's best friend, is married to Lyle Dalton, the town's major (and only) big employer at Dalton Oil. I do love Shirlene. She's out-loud and proud and very comfortable with herself.

Slate Calhoun was Hope's best friend through high school and the school's talented quarterback. He's marrying Faith Alridge, Hope's long-lost twin (see Going Cowboy Crazy ). Tyler "T-bone" Jones (he's married to Missy Leigh) has taken over the garage from his dad, Tinker, the man who saved Colt's life from falling apart. Travis Mossman is the man to whom Colt is delivering the new bike; he's also the behind-the-scenes savior in more ways than one. Sissy is Travis' wife, and his grandkids, Lily and Danny, are visiting.

Jesse James claims he's the owner of the Harley Knucklehead motorcycle. Ryan Seever is Hope's agent out in Hollywood.

Bramble's townsfolk include:
Harley Sutter is the mayor. Josephine runs the town café and makes a mean wedding cake with raspberry filling; Rachel Dean; Darla is having an "affair" with that glue gun, I swear!; Twyla is seeing Kenny Gene; Ms. Murphy is the librarian; Bud Mueller plays a mean fiddle; Bear is Rachel's cousin and a bounty hunter---he brings home the baby daddy, he thinks; Sheriff Sam Winslow will jail anyone for Shirl; and, Rossie.

Jimmy "Bucky" Higgins is the new doctor, and a former classmate of Hope's.

The Cover
It looks like it was cold wherever the cover image was shot---he's got goosebumps on that very lightly furred---and naked---chest. He's leaning up against something, one be-jeaned leg angled forward and a hand resting on his upper thigh, a big silver buckle on his belt. The background looks like a sunrise with pinks fading into a deep blue over an undulating plain.

The title is what Hope finally realizes she wants, so Make Mine a Bad Boy.

Again, I loved this book despite itself. Spicy contemporary Texas romance, set in a small town, with a cast full of quirky characters. I rolled my eyes at the twin communication...but suspended disbelief and just rolled with it. Just fun.

Another exciting romance from new author Katie Lane set in the heart of Texas!

After five years in L.A. trying to make it as an actress, Hope finally returns home, and to her back up plan – marrying her childhood sweetheart and town hero, Slate Calhoun. When she gets there though, she not only finds a twin sister that she didn’t know about, but the man she planned on marrying falling in love with her instead! Now she has to bury her jealousy and crushed dreams and attend their happy wedding. But when Colt Lomax pulls up on his motorcycle crashing her sister’s wedding, Hope’s day goes from bad to worse.
Colt Lamox was always the bad boy of Bramble, Texas and despite his success in L.A. over the last eight years; he doesn’t want anyone thinking any different of him. But after a run in with Hope he can’t help but return to his hometown, especially when hearing she’s about to marry another man.
These two rub each other like oil and vinegar but there’s no denying the passion that’s always been between them, but will they surrender to it? And when an unexpected complications pops up, will it bring them closer together or push them farther apart?

I didn’t think that anyone in Deep in the Heart of Texas could be up to par with Slate from Going Cowboy Crazy, but Colt was just as fabulous. Motorcycle bum, owner of Desperado Customs, black attire, sexy boots and a witty, sarcastic attitude, this bad boy definitely stole my heart.
With a heartbreaking upbringing, Colt has finally made something of himself though he still carries a chip on his shoulder thinking of himself still as that kid from the wrong side of the tracks, and having Hope continually shut him down while making puppy dog eyes at the town hero doesn’t help his confidence. Yet he still rallied around his town and it’s citizens when they needed it, taking the role of leader and surprising them all. Colt’s smart, sexy, quick-witted, funny, determined; well, everything about him was endearing.
Hope on the other hand, I didn't care for. Though by the end I warmed to her somewhat, I still thought she was a loud, annoying, spoiled brat with a bad attitude. And really, the town’s whole idolism with her left me baffled.
Colt & Hope’s relationship was a roller coaster ride though and because of my interest in Colt, really captivated my heart.
The story is fast paced with an easy plot, entertaining dialogue and a quirky little town. And this crazy town of Bramble, Texas really kept me on my toes, wondering what in the world they were going to do next in effort to ‘help’ their little Hope along.
Despite the fact that I wasn’t at all into the heroine; the hero, prior main characters, side characters and surroundings really made up for that and I enjoyed Make Mine a Bad Boy immensely. I’m hoping Lane has another book planned for this delightful series.

MAKE MINE A BAD BOY written by Katie Lane
A Deep in the Heart of Texas Series Book #2
06/11 - Grand Central Publishing - Mass Market Paperback, 368 pages

Can you shake off love like the dust on your boots or does it stay forever attached?

Hope Scruggs is the sweetheart of Bramble, Texas and Colt Lomax has always been seen as the town’s bad boy. They had played those roles growing up and as adults when they both find themselves back in town it is easy to step back into them. Even after years away though the fire between them is still burning and they both have the ability to aggravate the heck out of each other.

Hope is dealing with a failed acting career and coming home to find a twin sister she never knew existed who was marrying the man she thought was hers. Hope used him as a fall back on plan that got away from her and now she is trying to put the puzzle of her life back together with new pieces that don’t fit anywhere. Colt is back helping his sister out as he always has and will since childhood. He grew up and despite no one believing him, became a successful custom motorcycle designer.

But the town of Bramble is in trouble and Hope is not only its sweetheart but also its champion so she is going to investigate and figure out how to fix it. Hope is carrying a huge secret of her own around as it appears Hope and Colt had run into each other a few months before. One night of passion has turned into the possibility of a lifelong commitment neither is prepared for and not sure they are able to handle.

There is the possibility of Hope and Colt’s story breaking your heart because they are so tough on the outside and tender on the inside. But it doesn’t because you see them get past childhood stereotypes and show the strong adults they have become. Regardless of who you were it does not define who you have to be and this book is written to show how destiny can be changed when you own it.

Make Mine a Bad Boy starts right where Going Cowboy Crazy leaves us. Hope “Hog” Scroggs returns to her small home town Bramble Texas after a not so impressive start to her acting career to marry her childhood boyfriend, only to find out he’s marrying her twin sister Faith Aldridge who she didn’t know existed.

I didn’t like Hope much in Going Cowboy Crazy, she seemed like a spoiled conniving person, that if she didn’t get her way you’d be sorry, but I figured since this was her book I’d give her a clean slate and see if I would end up liking her. Well I didn’t, I still felt she was a childish, spoiled, manipulating person for a majority of the book. It wasn’t until the end of the book where I could tolerate her and she just sort of grew on me.

Meanwhile Brambles own homegrown bad boy stops in to visit his baby sister Shirlene. I loved Colt Lomax. He’s your typical bad boy biker alpha dude that has enough sex appeal to knock your socks off. He knows how he feels and who he wants, but has just enough insecurities to go after it.

While my feelings were split between the main characters I did like the story, the writing was good and left no holes. I hope Ms. Lane continues with the series as I feel it can only get better.

So the narrator is good. But I don't like her voice for Hope, so I knew I was going to have issues with this one. I knew I should have read it instead of listening to it, because I knew I didn't like Hope's voice, and this was Hope's book. But I muddled through anyway.

I really don't like how the only description of Rachel Dean is that she has 'man hands' and that literally gets used in every single paragraph the woman is in.

The townsfolk really are dumb. To be fair, had I know that this was going to be a I probably shouldn't have read it. But I had already put I Only Have Eyes for You (The Sullivans, #4) by Bella Andre on hold for the exact same reason recently, I really would have felt like a wimp if I did it again. But damn it's difficult right now.

One bit I didn't like...

I did like Colt.
I've never liked Hope.

Otherwise, it was a fun Bramble story.... I guess.

I will continue reading them.

4.5 stars actually
The sophomore effort of this fluffy fun series picks up at the wedding that ended the previous installment from second twin Hope Scroggs' point of view and her true feelings about the bride and groom. Hope is full of self-pity and is determined to not enjoy the wedding or wish Faith and Slate joy when Colt Lomax strolls into the wedding reception.

Colt's very bad boy adds to the quirkiness of Bramble, Texas and he was definitely the lead man-candy. Everything else with testosterone barely registered. I missed them. I liked Hope and Colt as a couple but wasn't as enchanted as I was with the first book. That however was a reader issue because the material was not faulty at all.

From page one I found myself laughing out loud and repeating phrases and sentences. This very easy to get into series and book are fast pace, humorous contemporary romances that are perfect mind mints and work as stand-alone rainy day or beach reads. This delightful town is sure two and two make 22 everytime and is worth a visit.

I LOVE Colt, such a sensitive, hot bad boy, I want to lick his tatttoos...and I so love the "special" part of his tattoo =) I really enjoy MMABB, it was different than Going Cowboy Crazy. There didn't seem to be alot of tender moments between Colt and Hope, however each had tender thoughts about the other in their head...I didn't want to like Hope but something kept a soft spot in my heart for her, but the end I loved her. I love the town of Bramble and all the nosy townfolk. I hope to see more of Shirlene =)

I really don't know how to describe this book, I really liked it, it had some surprises that caught me totally off guard...Definitely looking forward to another visit to Bramble.

I loved Hope and Colt's story! How can you not love the town bad boy Colt Lomax! Hope is Bramble Texas's sweetheart who has liked Colt, but the town always wanted her to marry Slate. So after Hope returns home from living in Hollywood and finds out that she has a twin sister who married Slate Calhoun, she has to figure out what direction to go next. Back to Hollywood, or admit her true feelings for Colt.

I didn't care much for Hope in the first book. The whole town catered to her and she was a real witch to Faith. In this book I didn't care for her at first but she grew on me. Colt is the town bad boy who would so anything for his sister Shirlene. He's loved Hope forever but she only had eyes for Slate Throw in a few laugh out loud moments and I really enjoyed this book.

Make Mine a Bad Boy the 2nd book in Katie Lane’s debut Deep in the Heart of Texas series takes off where the first book Cowboy Crazy left off at Faith and Slate’s wedding. Whether talking movie or book it’s rare for a sequel to live up to the high expectations set for it by a highly successful original. And unfortunately, that holds true for Make Mine a Bad Boy. Its not a bust by any means. It’s just not IMHO nearly as good as Cowboy Crazy.
My biggest problem with Make Mine a Bad Boy is for much of the book I really didn’t like the heroine Hope Scroggs all that much. As she confesses at the end of the book she acts like a spoiled child. After five years of trying to make it in Hollywood she comes home to her little town of Bramble Texas where she has always been the favorite daughter thinking she can latch on to her lifelong friend and sometimes beau Slate Calhoun as a lifeboat to sooth her wounds and cover her failed acting career. Problem is, while she was gone Faith Aldridge the twin sister she never knew she had has come to Bramble and stolen Slate’s heart. So even thouGgh Faith, who desperately wants her twin sister to lover her does everything in her power to be a good sister to Hope, Hope continues to act like a petulant child who hasn’t gotten their way, resenting Faith’s new life with Slate. Because Hope believes Faith has stolen Slate, the love of her life. But in truth the love of Hope’s life is Colt Lomax, the town bad boy. Growing up poor and resentful of the fact his father died young in a car accident which drove his mother to become an alcoholic leaving him to practically raise his younger sister Shirlene (Hope’s BFF) in a rundown trailer, Colt has never felt worthy of the affection he feels for Bramble’s sweetheart Hope. So instead of trying to woo her he does stupid things to her like the proverbial little boy dipping the pigtails of the girl he likes in the ink well. Which would then cause Hope to run to the arms golden boy Slate Calhoun for comfort. Which would then leave Colt more dejected and the townsfolk (as well as Colt) more convinced that Slate the star captain of the football team and Hope the head cheerleader, homecoming queen and winner of just about every other contest in bramble including the annual pig calling contest (hence the nickname Hog) are destined to be married. Confused yet? Apparently so was Hope because as the book opens she’s convinced herself that she really loves Slate even though she’d left him and Bramble for the past five years and even though she acknowledges to herself that he was her fall back plan.
Add to a less than likable heroine and a confusing backstory you have the good, simple folk of Bramble. While in the first book their idiosyncrasies were amusing, in this story, at least for me than began to grate and just make them seem like idiots. Good hearted idiots, but idiots just the same. In the first book they couldn’t be convinced that Faith wasn’t her twin sister Hope and in this book they can’t be convinced that Hope isn’t pregnant as they set about to find the father of her unborn child to compel him to marry the town’s sweetheart. Apparently Hope getting knocked up by some unknown guy who isn’t even from Texas, isn’t enough to knock her off her pedestal in the town’s eyes.
Colt our hero in this story has his own journey of self-discovery as he learns to look back over his life in Bramble and see it through other’s eyes. While he’d always been convinced the town only saw him and ever would see him as trailer trash and a trouble maker, he comes to see that perhaps his behavior contributed to make it a self-fulfilling prophecy. As his attraction to Hope is rekindled while he’s in Bramble and he comes to realize how much he cares for not only Hope but also the hometown he couldn’t get away from fast enough after high school. Even though Hope has convinced herself that she can’t stand Colt she also can’t seem to deny her body’s constant attraction to him. And the more time she’s forced to spend with Colt the more she discovers he’s not the shiftless motorcycle bum she had him pegged to be. By the end of the story I’ve come to understand Hope just a little bit better and she’s earned some grudging affection and sympathy and even some respect from me which certainly helps a reader if you want to enjoy the H.E.A.
Along with this unlikely romance between Colt and Hope the author blends in a second story around Hope’s BFF and Colt’s little sister Shirleen and her husband Lyle and his business Dalton Oil, which employs half of Bramble. Turns out that unlike the impression I got of Shirleen in the first book, really does love Lyle even though he’s 25 years her senior, and didn’t just marry him for the money. Shirleen remains a great character in this story as does Faith as they both play their part in getting Hope and Colt together. This book also sets the stage for the next book in the series which is focused on Shirleen.
Make Mine a Bad Boy is an enjoyable story with a lot of laughs and a few tears. It’s just not quite as good as its predecessor Cowboy Crazy.

Hope had a plan. She was gonna go to Hollywood, become an actress, then come back home to Texas, and marry Slate. When Hollywood failed she decided to go back home. Little to her knowledge, Slate is marrying her twin sister, Faith, and she’s home just in time for their wedding. Enter Colt Lomax. Colt has always been Bramble’s bad boy. He’s got a passion for motorcycles, the open road, and pushing Hope’s buttons; ALL of her buttons. These two have an irresistible connection that will soon go beyond just a sexual attraction. . .
.
I don’t often read this genre, but every time I do, I crave a cowboy lol. This is a really easy and fun book to read. I love the Texas charm and the sass of the characters. Truthfully, after reading the back, I had a strong guess on what was going to happen, and I was right. It was still enjoyable to read and see how everything plays out. I’ll have to read these more in between my thrillers.

This book starts with a wedding, but it's not Hope's it's her twin sister's. Hope feels like this should of been her, but it wasn't in the cards for Hope to marry Slate. The wedding reception gets real interesting when Colt comes to town to see Hope. Colt and Hope have a love hate relationship, but they can't stay away from each other. Everyone in town thinks the worst of Colt and won't believe that he didn't just get out of jail. Colt moved away and made a name for himself. Things take an interesting turn for Colt and Hope! Bramble is a fun little town that looks after it's residents. This book had some interesting twists in it!

3.5 stars. For a cliche-riddled romance novel, this was exactly what I needed it to be. The hero is damaged but strong, the heroine is feisty but vulnerable. I felt like I should have read the previous book about Faith to get a better handle on the complex relationships, but it was an enjoyable 328 pages even without the full backstory.
One thing that kind of annoyed me and almost made me drop the rating to 3 stars was a poorly placed flashback that confused me as a plot device. That aspect was very poorly done.

This is a cute story. Hope leaves Brambles, TX for Hollywood to become a movie star. After five years of going nowhere, she is back home hoping to marry Slate. The problem is that Slate is marrying Hope's twin sister Faith. At the wedding reception, Colt shows back up after bring gone for five years. Everyone thinks that he is a motorcycle bum not knowing that he owns his own business building custom motorcycles. There is a past history between Colt and Hope and it is fun watching them find their way to each other.

Hope is home again in Bramble and not sure about this identical twin sister thing. She's forced to watch her high school sweetheart (and backup) marry her twin sister she never knew about. Everyone expects Hope to be brilliant and settle down with a proper man, but Hope feels set adrift when local badboy Colt breezes back into town. I loved the interplay between Hopr and Colt throughout the book and how Hope and Faith's relationship starts to become deeper. A great second book in the series!

Really enjoyed this book, a lot more than I expected. The quirky small town was crazy, the characters were very enjoyable. This book was a lot hotter than I expected but pulled it off while keeping in character with the story. It was sweet, erotic, funny and had a lot of twists and turns.
The plot unfolds throughout the book and you need to read book 1 first to get the backstory regarding Hope's twin and why she is in the situation she finds herself in.

I picked up this book from the romance section to figure out how to write romance/smut scenes. I'm not a fan of cowboys and Texas/southern charm, but this book was okay. The main couple are stereotypes (good girl and bad boy) and there's lots of the usual romance tropes. Not a book of substance, but it was easy, mindless "junk food" that was perfect for reading over my winter break.

This is the second book in this series and it tells the tale of Hope and Colt Lomax, the bad boy she loved but would not admit to until he came home and mistakenly thought Hope was marrying her old boy friend. Very cute story with lots of laughs about a very small town in Texas that you have to like no matter how crazy they are. It’s a fun read and not serious at all.

Honestly the heroine is a complete brat but the hero makes it worth it. The fact that the heroine grows as a person helps too. I literally wanted to strangle her at some points. I blame the author though for doing so well in the first book though ;)
