Make Me Crave is the second book in the Make Me series. I didn't read the first one, but this one held up well as a stand alone. There were references to events that happened in the first book involving Roman, but they didn't seem important to this book. This is Roman and Allie's story.
For the most part, I enjoyed the book. If you blush easily, you may want to read this alone. The loves scenes are pretty steamy! I did like both Roman and Allie and they had great chemistry together. Allie was a strong female lead and I admired her for not compromising her principles. Roman was good for her as she was able to figure out that sometimes asking for help is OK. I did have a little bit of a problem with the quick I Love Yous. I would have like to see more of them together off the island. A week in paradise isn't enough for me to buy it. But then, I always want short romances to be longer. I do recommend this one. After reading it, I now want a private island vacation!

This one picks up right after the first one ends. Here, we begin to learn a bit more about who "The Man" is and what is going on with the town. There are a lot more supernatural elements at play here. It's also a lot more fast paced than the first book.
Once again, the story is told through multiple points of view and both good and evil voices are heard. The same cast of characters are present. Malcom is still my favorite among the lot. I like his sense of humor and his adoration of .Val. He is also pretty bad ass. The best part of this one is the reveal of some of the monsters. Talk about scary and freakish.
The book ends with the fate of most of the charaters left up in the air. I am looking forward to the conclusion in Bad Moon Rising....more

It was a nice addition to the series. It's probably my least favorite of the series however. I loved Logan and how he set about trying to win Lena's trust and heart. But I really had a hard time warming up to Lena. She drove me crazy. For a woman who is supposed to be strong and independent, she was really dumb when it came to life. The ranch had already been attacked three times in as many months, but she refused to believe that the twins and their creepy uncle could be up to no good.
My biggest issue with this book, however, was how Lena kept hitting Logan. She didn't like being punched by her ex-boyfriend and spends a lot of the book reminding us of the fact. But she kept lashing out at Logan. She even swung a crowbar at him at one point. When he defended himself and she hit herself in the head with said crowbar and everyone blamed him! If it's not OK for men to hit women, then women shouldn't be hitting men. It's a dumb double standard and I didn't care for it.
Despite that, I did like their HEA. It was sweet and nice to see Lena become girly. I look forward to reading Alice and Jack's story next....more

I didn't feel like I got to know either character that well enough to buy their attraction. I also wasn't a fan of their BDSM relationship, especially at work during the office holiday party. That was kind of a bit off-putting. Why did everything have to happen at work? It was just a bit unrealistic for me...more

On o2.75 stars Useless Bay is another recent random library pick. To be honest, I'm not sure what level of reader this is supposed to be marketed to. On one hand, it read like a middle grade book and on the other it had elements that would really only be suitable for older YA readers. The story involves quintuplets who are famous for being good at search and rescue on their little island The four brothers and one sister are rumored to have been born of the land. They are tasked with finding one of their friend's little brother who has gone missing on the island, however, they end up finding another body instead.
This ended up being an OK read for me. It's really short, so I read it in one sitting. My biggest issue with it was the lack of supernatural development. There are some elements that, had they been further developed, could have lead the book to be a good supernatural thriller. But they weren't. For instance, Pixie's visions about the troll and creatures in the sea. I would have loved to have more. I also thought the book could have been longer to make the mystery more exciting. It wasn't hard to figure out the reveal about halfway through the book. So, it was more a matter of waiting for the characters to catch up to the reader.
Having said all of that, I did like the characters. They are ones I would love to read about again. The Quints were fun and interesting. No one knows who their father was although there it a hint toward the end of book. That would have been fun to explore further. As I said earlier, I think this probably should be kept to the older YA crowd. There are elements of animal and child abuse that could be disturbing to younger readers. ...more

The end up at a creepy house in the woods. After fleeing and going back to England, they end up agreeing to never speak about what they saw. Even though it is tearing their relationship apart.
I have mixed feelings about this book. I did end up ultimately enjoying the book. There were a lot of twists that kept me on my toes. I didn't really see any of them coming, especially the last reveal. That one was shocking. However, I did think the book dragged in a few places. What Danial and Laura actually saw in the house was kind of anti-climactic. I mean it was horrific, however, I thought Laura's reaction to the events was a bit over the top. I mean if she was that bothered, then she should have said something once they got to safety.
I don't want to give away the plot too much. It is told through multiple perspectives. But it was easy to follow. I would say this is one of the more enjoyable psychological thrillers that I read this year. I do recommend it.

Throw in some AI tech and it should have been a good time. I did like the premise. A spooky mansion has been fitted with an AI like computer system that should prove to make living there a dream. "Nellie"'s job is to anticipate what the residents and guests need and make sure it happens. When Billy is hired to try to get out the bugs in the system, things start to go very wrong.
While I liked the premise, the book ended up just being an OK read for me. I wanted a spooky "ghost in the machine" type book, but it just never quite hit the mark. The potential was there, especially in the end. However, I wanted more...more creepiness and more ghosts. I also wanted more of a peek into what Billy was doing during all of those endless work hours. The book really dragged in the middle and then the ending was rushed and anti-climatic.
The characters were kind of lack luster with Emily being the most annoying out of them all. I found her very whiny. I did like the creepy twins. They were cool and it would have made the book more interesting had they been a bigger part in the book. It's not a bad book. It's worth taking a look, but it wasn't what I was hoping for. ...more

But since the attack on the ranch, she can't feel a thing. When Connor shows up, she quickly realizes that he might be the key to helping her gift to come back.
This one was cute. I'm not sure I liked it as much as the first one. I didn't like how everyone kept thinking Connor was betraying Sadie just by talking to the bartender in a bar. Just because a guy smiles and maybe flirts a little doesn't mean they are going to be unfaithful. I thought that was all a bit much. Besides, he did have a reason for doing it. He was also kind of a flirty guy. I liked him more than I liked Sadie. She was a bit too weepy for me. But I thought her gift was kind of neat. The ending was pretty nail-biting. She has to come to trust that Hunter will stay, but the secret he is keeping just may make him have to leave.
I loved this couple. I loved watching them fall for each other and gain trust. Hunter's big secret was honorable, if not a bit misguided. Better communication would have kept him out of his mess, but then he never would have met Jo. Still, they don't call it tough love for nothing. I loved the ending. But I love stories like And then There were None where a group of people end up in a house together and people start dying. In this one, the bed and breakfast at The Breakers ends up being a birthday reunion for a group of family members. It's a reunion that brings up a lot of bad memories.
For the most part, I enjoyed the book. The story is told through Donna's perspective and through events that happened back int the 90s when the B&B was a summer rental property. I did call the main twist pretty early on, but there was one aspect of it that I didn't call. What I had a hard time with was none of the characters were remotely likable. Most of the group were just horrible human beings. I found myself hoping that they would get what they had coming to them. Through the flashback scenes, we can see their behavior and attitudes haven't changed since they were younger. The only one I had any real sympathy for was Donna.
The book was fairly fast paced; enough to keep me interested in seeing how it all played out. I wasn't happy with the ending though. It was too tidy and anticlimactic. Maybe an epilogue would have satisfied me more. It's a decent thriller and I'd recommend checking it out. It just wasn't what I was hoping for....more

The premise of the series is that General Reed has five daughters. After his wife died, he came into possession of a set of letters she left for him all with dates in the future. As he reads through the letters, he is told by his wife that he has to find husbands for his daughters. (It seems his wife could see the future). The General finds five soldiers who have messed up in their military service. Each guy is a perfect match for each of his daughters. He offers them a deal. If they marry his daughters, they will be discharged honorably and will receive part of his successful ranch.
This is Cass and Brian's story. He is sent there to help a reluctant Cass fix up the house and to put things right at the house. He is also there to find out who is trying to mess with the ranch. I thought this was a really cute romance. Brian had been staring at Cass's picture for months before he met her, so for him his quick fall was easy. Not so much for Cass. She had been hurt too much in the past and was reluctant to try again. She also has a lot of unresolved issues over the loss of her mother. I loved them together and loved watching Brian win Cass over.
There is a little mystery, some nail biting action and a touch of mysticism thrown into the mix. . I loved the humor and steamy attraction. It's definitely worth picking up if you haven't read it yet. I'm putting the rest of the series toward the top of my TBR Pile immediately. ...more

I knew one of my favorite authors wouldn't leave me hanging like that. This is Webb and Ten's story. It picks up where Escape left off. Webb has been arrested for a bank robbery. The robber has his face, but Webb has an alibi. It's up to Ten and Webb to figure out what is going on.
This is another great addition to the Getaway series. I have been rooting for this couple since they met in the first book. This author has a knack for pairing up two completely different people and making it so that they end up being exactly what each other needs. I love that. I loved Ten's "aha" moment when she finally let go and realized Webb was the one she could trust.
The mystery of the man with Webb's face was good. Throughout their hunt, we get to know more about what Wyatt and Webb went through growing up. It was so sad. It's a wonder they survived. I also loved watching Ten gain back her tracking confidence. That's all I'm going to say. Other than go read it and the rest of the series. Oh and Ms, Crownover? She has been declared a prime and the head of her house. Her magic makes people fall in love with her. As she is helping plan her sister's wedding, she is hired to find a missing heirloom within the Rogan household.
I really enjoyed this short story. Catalina is just about 18 and is slowly coming into her own. She has lived her whole life not really trusting anyone outside her family because she could never be sure if they liked her for herself or because of her magic's influence. Here we find out more about her magic and what she can actually do with it. I also loved the peek into her thoughts about how she has felt most of her life.
The mystery was good. I loved the reveal of the missing tiara. In her search Catalina found out a lot more than the House of Rogan bargained for. That rehearsal scene was priceless! I have been in the mood for a really good horror story. Unfortunately, I'm not sure this one fits that bill. The story involves the small town of Pine Deep that is notorious for being haunted. Halloween is a big deal for the town. As the town gears up for it's celebration, danger comes to town in the form of bank robbers and a serial killer.
So from what I have read about other people's experience with this book. it't not great, but is more of a set up for the rest of the trilogy. For the most part, I liked it enough to keep reading. It wasn't really a horror book, but more of a thriller. It's definitely full of graphic violence. There are hints of something supernatural, but they aren't fully fleshed out. I'm wondering if this is a case of a trilogy that could have been cut down to be a duology.
The main characters were interesting and ones I want to root for. I liked Crow and Mike the most. The villains were equally un-likable. The book did drag in the middle but was saved by the last act that had me riveted. I should warn that there is some graphic child abuse, i.e a teen getting the crap beat out of him by an adult.in the book. I should have a review of the second book up really soon....more

This held up fairly well as a stand alone. I hadn't read the book that came before this one, but I didn't feel like I missed much. This one more focuses on Cyrus and AJ with the rest of the family in the background. The mystery was enjoyable. I was eager to find out why Cyrus would up and marry a woman he just met. It really went against his nature. I was definitely not expecting that explanation I got. The search for the truth puts AJ's life in danger. I liked her determination not to give up on her love for Cyrus. I don't want to give away, but the ending was a satisfying one and wrapped up the series nicely. ...more

To do this, she has to get close to the rich kids there for summer vacation.
I really didn't enjoy the book, I finished it, but barely. I was really bored throughout the bulk of the story. It is on the short side, so I guess it had that going for it. None of the characters were very likable. Pearl was really dull and one dimensional. There was conflict created with her best friend when there didn't need to be. I didn't understand why Reese wouldn't just ask Pearl at the start what she was doing with the rich crowd. It would have saved a lot of angst on that front. There were a lot of rich kids constantly putting down the "townies". That got old really fast. None of the rich kids were likable either, even Bridges. I never believed any of his sincerity. What really happened the night of the fire was easy to figure out. Overall, it was pretty disappointing and I wouldn't' really recommend it. ...more

Willow spends a lot of that time fighting against her attraction to Zeke, their producer.
I'll be honest, I had a hard time warming up to Zeke. One thing I struggle with in books is how a person can ever find themselves attracted to someone who is a complete asshole most of the time. He definitely grew on me and I ended up loving his character in the end. He definitely redeemed himself. Willow was a breath of fresh air. I loved her free spirit and willingness to see the brighter side of things. Especially when things were looking bleak. She was also a little spit-fire! The ending was very sweet. I do recommend this one. Just ignore Zeke in the beginning. He really is a nice guy....more
