Okay, so I want to try and write a spoiler free review, which is going to be impossible. But I do have to say, I loved the book. Conquer the Flames haOkay, so I want to try and write a spoiler free review, which is going to be impossible. But I do have to say, I loved the book. Conquer the Flames has less Caine and Macklin than the others did. For me, that was a good thing, this couple needed more time in the book than the others really did. I'm not going to really say why, but both MC's had their issues. And those issues needed to be done really well and they needed to be a focus in the book.
In the Lang Down's world, this book jumped 5 years into the future. We had new characters that weren't in the original books. I had expected it at some point, mainly because of a couple that should be coming up. For those who have read the series, I will gladly say that things are headed in that direction and it was so obvious here.
Anyway, back to this book. Ian and Thorn were a great combo. But don't let the cover fool you. If you want lots of hot sex then this is not for you... Ian had issues, and those issues stopped them from jumping into the sack. There were kisses, though, and talks about emotions - sometimes, anyway - and a really, really beautiful rescue scene. I love watching one hunky MC save the other. I'm kinda addicted to those things.
These two were definitely different to the other couples. There was less issue with them becoming an actual couple. Honestly, the issue was with sex. It's not a simple thing. But the MC's came together... I won't say easily because neither was actually out. The issues they had were to do with Ian's past, which I won't spoil. But he was a foster kid.... Enough said.
As a fan of the series, I am really loving these men. I'll always have a soft spot for Caine and Macklin because they were the first couple. But I think all these characters have wormed their way into my heart. I would highly recommend this book to fans of the series. ...more

Caine and Macklin captivated me in the first book and from there my love of these characters grew. I'm not sure of there are more books in the series to come, but I sincerely hope there will be. I don't think I could get tired of reading about the couples or catching up with the characters, both new and old.
The blurb describes the basics. Sam, Neil's brother, is getting divorced and needs a place to stay. Jeremy is Taylor's younger brother and gay. What it fails to tell you is the emotional abuse Sam suffered during his marriage. Yes, he cheated. But, I could not hold it against him. His wife made him feel like dirt, she never wanted to spend any real time with him, and it wouldn't shock me if she knew he was gay.
I loved Jeremy and Sam together. (view spoiler)[They didn't do anything because Sam was legally married, and they wanted to get to know each other. Plus Jeremy helped Sam with his awful self-esteem. (hide spoiler)] There was no sex in the book. It wasn't about that and it was kind of refreshing to read. Some couples just aren't the hot and sweaty fuck buddies. Others might not like that, but I adored it. Especially when you take Sam's low self esteem.
Cain and Macklin. Well, where to begin? I have always loved them as a couple they had some nice moments in this book. (view spoiler)[We finally see Macklin tell Caine he loves him. (hide spoiler)] There were a couple of those scenes. The we had the nicest present from Caine to Macklin and it made me smile during the scenes that followed. (view spoiler)[Caine found Sarah, Macklin's mum. She moved to Lang Downs and is as funny as hell. Especially her and Kami and they moved in together. (hide spoiler)] For me that was the nicest thing about the book, as well as the slow building relationship.
This is a great series, and I feel greedy asking for more. But what can I say? This series keeps getting better and better. I love it and the fact we see more of the characters and get new characters is an added bonus. Plus I want to catch up with a certain new character who should be fun to read about. I have high hopes for a fourth book, but I won't hold my breath, although it would be wonderful if it happened.

The first one was Latakia and there is a third book, that I will try to read after this. This book was beautiful and at times painful. One of the things about this as well is there is a lot that happens. The saving grace for me was the humor. I laughed sometimes.
James was the main character and while I would consider another character (who I won't mention) a main character, James was the main focus of the story. His story was quite sad and at times I felt sorry for him, although he was clueless at the best of times. It killed me to know who he should end up with and then having to wait for it to happen.
This book wont be for everyone. I loved it though and I found myself enthralled in the lives of James and the other characters. I am a huge fan of JF Smith and cannot wait for more of his books.
This book was frickin amazing. Matt and Travis forever. :)

Latakia is an amazing book. I just had to say I think this is in my top ten books ever. No kidding, it was so frickin good. We have hot marines, funny characters, hot characters and some very good characters in general. Of course a good book wouldn't be this amazing without a villain. Yes Brian, I am looking at you! I have kicked myself for months for putting off reading this book.
I loved the two MC's. Matt and Mope (Travis), the two of them had great chemistry and it was not an overly steamy book. In fact there were no graphic sex scenes. I know people may wonder how this was so good then, but what was lacking in sex was made up for in story. The couples journey was perfect and I wouldn't have changed that.
I was nervous about this, because as the blurb reveals, Matt had a boyfriend in the beginning. The issue was dealt with in a way that had me glad to see him gone. After a couple of scenes I wanted to punch something when he popped up in a scene. In my opinion, he was in way too many scenes for me. It's not that I hate knowing a character has had boyfriends in the past. But he was a cocky, arrogant prick. An example of that.
Brian scowled and cut in, “We're not done, Matt. You may think we’re done, but I don't think we're done. I still want to talk about this and we're going to…” “No WE aren't, Brian. It’s over. There’s nothing else…” “Yes, there is, Matt! Christ, you can be so stupid sometimes,” said Brian, forcefully.
Pretty major spoiler > (view spoiler)[He cheated on Matt and expected them to stay together. See the quote above. (hide spoiler)]
One of my favourite characters was Petey. He was great with Matt and even though I thought at first I would hate him, he soon became one of my favourite characters. His place in my heart is beside Matt and Mope. He was a very important character and made me want to read faster and I am a fast reader! That will tell you why I loved him, he was funny too which was good.
The plot was really good and I have a major thing for marines. The story was about Matt getting kidnapped and Mope, Petey and their team saved him. It started one of the books I have ever read. The plot might have had a couple of issues, I don't care though. Fuck plot holes this book was fanfuckingtastic! There is nothing better than watching two characters fall in love and building something wonderful together. And that is exactly what happened here. I watched two characters I loved fall in love and start a life together.
I know this book won't be for everyone, and if you need sex in a book it won't be for you. What I can promise is that I will put my hand over my heart and say I loved this book and could read it again and again without getting bored. People may wonder how I loved it when they know my pet peeves. But the author had me rooting for the MC's. He made me want cheating - which has never happened before - so I knew this was going to be a five star read.

(view spoiler)[ Jasper and Greg sleeping together was not a huge shock to me, I could not really sympathize with Jasper though. Greg is an ass and I hated him in this book. I loved when Dec did punch him. (hide spoiler)]
The beginning of the book was a bit of a shock but things worked out in the end with that. I loved the scene with Dec, Abe and Simon it was funny to see how Simon ended up on the wrong side of that argument. This book was another great one by Sean Kennedy and I cannot help but hope that there is another sequel one day :)...more

I loved the romance and Declan and Simon were such a cute couple. This is the first book I have read with Australian characters and I loved it. If you don't really know Australian phrases it might be a difficult read but it was no problem to me.
Fran and Rodger and Abe and Lisa were great side characters and I loved the interaction with them. The sports theme in the book was not really strong so I could understand it perfectly. There was some very nice scenes in the book that made me swoon and some that made me want to scream which was what kept me reading.
Its a very easy book to read and I never got bored. I do have to admit I almost hated the last section of the book but upon reading it again I realized what happened had to happen to strengthen the relationship.
I had a smile reading the banter between the characters and it was very believable especially with the fame. There was nothing really out there it was just a simple book that had a really good plot and brilliant characters. This really is a must read :)...more
