What a hidden gem! Priest is an incredible storyteller and quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I usually shy away from sci-fi but this was such a captivating, wild ride I really couldn’t stop reading it. I feel like this story has the perfect balance of everything- plot, world building, character arcs, action, drama, humor, and relationship development between the MC/ML. Lu Bixing and Lin Jingheng are now one of my top 5 danmei couples. Their dynamic is everything ❤️ The amount of times I laughed out loud out of nowhere- I love Priest’s sense of humor so much.
✔️Golden Retriever Top/Black Cat Bottom ✔️Grumpy/sunshine ✔️Inexperienced in love (both) ✔️Super intelligent MC and ML

Beautiful storytelling with one of my favorite tropes- found family. As expected from Priest, a slow burn where romance really is not the main part of the story but the relationship of the MC/ML is still very central to the plot. I absolutely love the grumpiness and awkwardness of both Yan Zhengming and Cheng Qian as they figure things out. The five disciples of the Fuyao Sect are forced onto a path they weren’t prepared for and we get to watch them quickly go from children to adults. There were some deeply sad moments but as always, Priest gives us just the right amount of humor throughout. If you are a fan of xianxia and love Priest, then this book should be on your TBR!...more
Still trying to gather my thoughts on this book. Overall I loved it. I read this immediately after fininshing Peach Blossom Debt by the same author. IStill trying to gather my thoughts on this book. Overall I loved it. I read this immediately after fininshing Peach Blossom Debt by the same author. It's another 1st person POV (with a slightly unreliable narrator) which isn't my favorite, but I immediately fell in love with the MC so I was okay with that. There's definitely angst and unrequited love (maybe?) throughout the book and you never really know who the MC will end up with- if anyone at all -until the very end. My heart ached for the MC throughout the book and I found myself tearful at times. It has a satisfying somewhat unexpected (to me) ending. If you need lots or romance or smut/spice in your danmei, this book is not for you. I have so much more to say about the main character but I feel like it would spoil the book. He is very lovable but feels like no one loves or trusts him which is so sad. I gave this book 5* because I will definitely read again....more

Very satisfying yet ended on a cliff-hanger again… I don’t know how to judge crime/thriller books because I rarely read them but I have loved that it’s not predictable or boring. It’s danmei so there is a m/m relationship which SPOILER IF YOU HAVEN’T READ THE FIRST BOOK is adorable and complicated. This is a character driven transmigration novel (although action picks up some in the last arc) dealing with lots of pain, love, healing, and redemption. There are some heavy themes throughout the novel (SA, suicide, trauma, torture) but the translator does a good job of giving warnings for the very painful chapters. My emotions were all over the place reading this but Song Qingshi was an absolute delight and carried the story IMO. If you like xianxia- I highy recommend this novel. Immortals, deities, magical beings, the Three Realms, cultivation, reincarnation, the Eight Sufferings and so much more. I feel like this story has the perfect balance of plot, character development, world building, and exploration of the relationship between Jing Lin and Cang Ji. There is angst, heartbreak, fluff and comedy with an ending that makes it so worth the journey! It started out a little slow but picks up and doesn't stop. This is by the same author of one of my all time favorite books, (Qiang Jin Jiu by Tang Jiuqing) and I now feel the need to read everything she has written. I will definitely be re-reading this. The official English translated novel is supposed to be released this July (2024)....more
