Steamy adult read. My ears are still red.
Wolf shifter, Malcolm Burke, lives an ordinary life and that’s just the way he likes it. Until Willow Tanner waltzes into his office and into his life. Perky, odd, and human – his new receptionist is definitely not what he’s looking for. So why does his wolf so vehemently insist Willow belongs to him? And why does he find it so difficult to resist her sweet kisses?
Willow Tanner knows what she wants, and what she wants is the grumpy but deliciously sexy Malcolm Burke. The wolf shifter makes her entire body tingle, and she’s not going to let a silly little thing like him being a paranormal stop her from coaxing him into her bed.
Determined to prove she’s no ordinary human, Willow uses her special abilities to help Mal and his partners at the security firm. But when her curiosity and eagerness to help lands her in trouble, Mal will do whatever it takes to keep her safe.
It was a slow building romance between Mal and Williow, I personally love building love stories, it makes stories a lot more interesting. It gives room to know the characters better.
Willow is my favorite in this series. She is so cheeky and absolutely brilliant when she is in the pages. Sparkling you could say.
I love how Ava and Bishop have some spotlight in this book.
Some pages where ending with a plot twist. And it has shapesifters!...more

Quote: Or better yet, I could’ve said no to my employer, the Director of the Society for Paranormals & Curious Animals. I couldn’t possibly abandon my domestic post to gallivant around the world without so much as a chaperone. After all, what would the neighbors think?-
Quote: The fabric seller glowed rosy as he pushed a piece of silk at me. I swiveled about, studying the crowd. Apart from the scraggly stray dogs, a herd of goats, a few chickens and the flies, all the energy fields were human. except one. That particular energy field surrounded a humanoid beast that was glaring over the crowd at me. I immediately recognized the being from my studies of West African folklore and groaned. I was being followed by an Obayifo.-
Where African myth meets Victorian manners.
The mission is simple: Travel to Lagos, save the Brownies, and don’t die in the process.
Unfortunately for paranormal investigator Miss Beatrice Knight, her employer is a werewolf which means nothing is ever simple. Upon arrival, Miss Knight is insulted by the police, chased by a vampire, and visited by a talking chimp. Everything is going according to plan, just not her plan. At least they serve tea in the colonies, but will that be enough to survive the night?
This prequel offered an insight and foreshadowing of battles to come, in future books. Adventure and tongue in check with humor. It what we all need in these troubled times.
Relax with a cup of tea, or something stronger, and hunt paranormals with the intrepid Miss Knight. I did....more

Quote: And like her name, she was the polar opposite. Faith the good girl. Just thinking it made her cringe. Did anyone ever stop to consider maybe she didn't want to be the angel sister? Maybe she wanted to get a job in a strip club literally called Club Diablo on a creepy, foggy island and meet man after man without a care in the world.-
Quote: She was definitely scared. He hated that he was going to be the one to break the news of her curcurrent predicament. Specifically, that she wouldn't be leaving the island anytime soon.-

Duncan's mature writing is a brilliant display of keen psychological insight and absolute mastery of capturing ephemeral nuances of mood, thought, and feeling in language.
This is actually very very difficult to do; like capturing an extremely fragile exotic butterfly in amber, which forces you to closely observe and analyze minute details that are so fine that they pass before you do the intellectual alchemy.
He is really exploring the existence of ethics, morality, and survival psychology, the psychological accommodations we all make to survive & succeed in the world.
This last book in the series closes the story lines the author created. For my no more dark tales for a while....more

I enjoyed Talulla Rising, but not nearly as much as its predecessor, it took my some time to take it in. Jake Marlowe was a relate-able character to me, he was likable and enjoyable, I would have enjoyed having a cocktail with him.
Talulla, however, is somehow less human. I understand that she was holding back her emotions for most of the book, I'm kind of like that myself in that I put my feelings on hold when I have to get something done- hysteria isn't productive. However, it just managed to make her kind of unlikable for some reason....more

I really enjoyed this book despite the dark sexual undertones. I’m not entirely sure the author likes women but that was a mild distraction from a well told engaging story.
The writing was poetic and the vocabulary incredible. I could not have read this book offline. I found myself looking up words every few pages. However, both the writing style and vocabulary fit the MC Jake as an old, bored completely unapologetic werewolf.
I found him to be not quite likable but certainly intriguing. I wanted to know what would happen next, even if he didn’t....more

The prologue was amazing, I actually got really excited when I read it. It was like I had a dramatic storyteller in my head who just knew the right things to say to get the listener entranced.
That was where my excitement ended though. I thought it was going to be just this action-packed, rollercoaster of twists right from the get-go, I was excited. No, not at all. Instead it’s full of lengthy descriptions and a bunch of sitting and talking. Because of those lengthy descriptions it was like a movie playing in slow motion. It took a couple of a sentences to say he was putting his elbow on his knee. So this book was not for me....more

This romantic Schapeshifters novel took me by the neck. The story is one that was told maybe in other shape-shifter storys but the characters of Trina and Shadow are well painted out and put into the story that it makes it a not " twelve in a dozen" story.
The altering chapters are told by Trina and Shadow saparately and it taks you into the story by their point of few. It had a closed end but simultaneously ends with a cliffhanger. How would their lifes and the pack develop?...more
