An Italian Dream is the first novel by Kate Frost that I have read. Overall, it was a good escapist read. However, it did start out slow and a little redundant (a little overkill on the whole I was a teenage mom and missed out on my life thing); It did get better as the book progressed though. I love the location of this book- Capri! (I could relate since I am lucky enough to have recently returned from a trip to Italy including a day in Capri- which is why I requested to read this book). This is a story of friendship, family, loyalty, and honesty. In the end, life throws the main characters Fern and Stella (best friends) some curve balls, but they overcome the obstacles and are happier because of it all. I look forward to reading more of Frost's books taking place in Italy and Greece in the future....more

What a beautiful holiday story of healing, family, friendship, and love. This is the second Fiona Valley book that I've read and I really like her writing. She brings the scene in front of me with her descriptions and prose. I felt like I was in South-West France for the holiday! This is a book centered around Evie who is struggling with overcoming her grief after her daughter was born stillborn. It is devastating and her marriage has crumbled also. She retreats to France for the holidays to escape life for the season. There she finds solace, peace, quiet, and love. This book is just so beautiful and I really enjoyed reading it. I can't wait to read Valpy's other "French" books in this series. Highly recommend this book, perfect for curling up with on a cold winter night....more

I love the "forced proximity" trope, however, I'm not a fan of the surprise baby trope- but I did still really enjoy this book. Snowed in with the Rancher has a unique storyline about a couple, Olivia and Tate who meet while on vacation and reconnect unexpectedly like 5 years later. I liked the character, their experiences, and the winter scene. Overall, this is a story of family, romance, and love. This is the first book by Mary Sue Jackson that I've read, and I'd probably read more in the future if I came across them....more

French Cooking for Beginners is a lovely collection of French recipes that would be do-able for an average cook. This cookbook is neatly arranged into categories: "To Start," "To Continue," "On the Side," and "To End." It is also scattered with beautiful photographs of the food and France. I found a few recipes I'd like to try including "Chicken with Cream Sauce" and the French sugar cookie "Sables." At the end this cookbook has space for you to write out your favorite French recipes....more

Somebody like Santa is a nice, sweet holiday romance novel. It is the story of struggling single father (Cooper) and a school counselor who is hiding from her past (Jess). Their lives become connected due to Cooper's son Trevor and a variety of other circumstances that keep bringing them together. This is a holiday story about healing, trusting, family, and love. Believe it or not, this is the first book by Janet Dailey I've ever read. Overall it is good, but Cooper is an idiot- I mean can one man be that naive in real life? (probably). Somebody like Santa is a perfect feel-good, HEA, holiday read to snuggle up with....more

A Lot Like Forever is the third book in this series by Jennifer Snow. I've read all of them so far, and this was probably my least favorite. This is the story of Trent and Whitney. They are an engaged couple with really bad communication and trust issues, which of course is detrimental to their relationship. The book seemed to repetitive to me, which made it longer than necessary and harder to get through. I still enjoyed the story overall and the happy ending. I look forward to reading the next installment of this series....more

For me, Catherine Bybee's books are an automatic read. I really enjoy her writing style, her characters, and all of her books that I've read so far. When it Falls Apart is no exception. This is the first book of a new series surrounding the DiAngelo family of San Diego. They are a close-knit Italian family living and running a restaurant in the Little Italy neighborhood of San Diego. This book follows the story of Luca and Brooke. Luca is the patriarch of the family since his father passed and takes his role very seriously. Luca is also a single father to Frannie. Brooke and Luca meet while Brooke is going through some big life changes. Of course Luca steps in and helps her navigate them, even though he may be uninvited. I really enjoyed the way their relationship developed and played out throughout the book. I love the characters in this book, and Luca is simply swoon-worthy. I can't wait to read the rest of the books in this series!...more

I always enjoy Jenny Hale's books. An Island Summer is another one to add to your summer/vacation list! I love the setting (Outer Banks!) and the plot. Hale has written an original storyline surrounding a couple of young woman (Meghan) who takes over her grandfather's cottage on Hatteras Island with her best best friend (Tess). Together they face many struggles and uncover some big secrets regarding Meghan's family along the way--- and of course, she meets a nice man (Toby). This is a story of family secrets, friendship, love, and living your dream. Enjoy and happy reading!...more

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this book. Viola Shipman is one of my favorite authors. This book creates a tie as my favorite novel by Shipman (with The Heirloom Garden). The Edge of Summer is a story of family secrets, forgiveness, friendship, love... all set in Michigan (and the Ozarks). This book is very current with an underlying Covid 19 impact. I adored Sutton and the trail she blazed trying to uncover the truth of her extended family after her mother passed away. This trail takes her from the Ozarks to Western Michigan. I love the locations; the prose Shipman uses to describe them takes you right there with Sutton. The button (and sewing) theme is original and I believe will resonate with many readers- my mother also has a pretty good size button collection occupying many tins and jars. The way Shipman writes about the role of buttons in Sutton's life connected with me and made me feel at home in the story. I would definitely recommend this book to everyone. You won't be disappointed! And I can't wait to read more by Shipman in the future....more
