By that I mean, have you ever just abandoned a book on your currently reading shelf months after you finished it because you couldn't decide how you felt about it and that made you never want to review it? So, like, not on read. On the opposite of read.
Here's the problem with reviewing this book: I've watched the show. And I liked the show, especially the first season of the show. And this story is remarkably similar to the show. Like, they recreated the first novel pretty accurately in the show. And that seems like a good thing. Joe is a little less likable here, because he doesn't have Penn Badgley to add to his charm. There's also not the weird little subplot about how Joe was abused, maybe? and I'm not really mad about that.
Beck is just as unlikable, but in a way where you understand better that Beck is mostly just unlikable because Joe is telling the story. The biggest character change for me is Peach. Without the celebrity draw of Shay Mitchell making Peach into a less creepy character, she is very creepy. Just, so creepy.
This book is quite a ride. If you liked the tv show then I'm sure you'll like the book. If you didn't like the tv show, why are you even here? If you somehow haven't read the book or seen the show, I would probably start here. It's better. And the audiobook from Santino Fontana is phenomenal, if a little disturbing. ...more

Everyone told me that this series was so great and that the netflix adaptation was so good and I took it all with a grain of salt. But truly, this series (opener, at least) is so, so great. It’s heartwarming and realistic and so wholesome. A great teen romance with well-drawn and easy to read panels.
Those who know me know I don’t usually care for series, but I may need to keep reading this series. ...more
Assuming I ever feel like doing so, a full review of this book is coming. Though I approached this book fully cognizant of the privileges I appreciateAssuming I ever feel like doing so, a full review of this book is coming. Though I approached this book fully cognizant of the privileges I appreciate as a cis-het, white woman (mostly cognizant? I feel like there is always more to learn here), I feel like this book articulated many of the particular social frustrations I experience based on my sex and gender. I don’t think it is a perfect explanation and there are things I felt were maybe left out — I am so glad this book finally moved from my TBR pile in the wake of Roe. ...more
