You never expect to be out here rooting for a serial killer to find love, but it happened and I'm not sorry. He's also got an Irish accent for anyone who needs more of that in their life.

A Court of Discovery was one of those books that I literally read in one sitting. Once I started, I was hooked on figuring out where this was going. This is enemies to... slightly not enemies? Many times authors write the enemies to lovers trope and skip into lovers too quickly. Ember-Raine Winters is not guilty of this. The complexity of the relationship between Erica and Maddox lies in deeply rooted biases and prejudices - it only makes sense that dismantling these beliefs would take a lot of time and patience. Don't get me wrong, you don't need to be lovers to be lovers if you feel me. Certainly check the triggers before reading this but as someone who dabbles in dark romance, this is lite non/dubcon and won't leave you questioning your own morality.
My only real complaint with this book is why I gave it three stars - I really wish some of the characters thoughts weren't so obvious. When a character is confused, you might read almost a full paragraph of internal questions they are asking of themselves. Literally every sentence will end with a question mark. It's okay for some of these questions to remain off page, as they will naturally come to mind for the reader.
While I didn't fall off a cliff here, I find myself wanting the next book now so I can figure out how in the world this is going to unravel. We're set up for tons more conflict, confusion, potential heartbreak... you name it. Really enjoyed reading this and would recommend even if you aren't necessarily into 'academy-style' books....more

It's 100% worth the read and I live for this morally grey MMC.
Kaid immediately wrapped one of his little arms around Ayres’s neck, focusing up at him with those big blue eyes as he smacked his other hand against Ayres’s lips. Ayres laughed and blew a little raspberry against the toddler’s baby soft skin.
