The book demands that you see the ocean as a place belonging to wild creatures—not humanity's vacation playground. I learned so much about corals, dolphins, sharks, crocodiles, rays, currents, SCUBA, the list goes on. I wish I could find video footage of some of the stories he told. I had no idea the author of Jaws was so experienced and knowledgeable about the ocean....more

Wow. I am confused by the high rating of this book. While this book starts out fine, it soon becomes terrible as the descriptions of native Americans Wow. We had a conversation about the negative depiction of Indigenous People, which is always valuable, but I would rather have read a different book where we could have talked about the history of the people instead....more
