I have to admit, unhinged powerful lou is gonna have a special place in my heart, I love her. Its refreshing to see a FMC thats powerful and sarcastic that's allowed to feel her emotions too. I just hope in the third book it doesn't become what many other novels are, where she must sacrifice her power for the greater good. As she stated, she isn't a sacrifice, I hope that remains true.
As for the story itself, it was mediocre, I found myself annoyed at Reid pretty much all the time. Ansel... well what can I say about that sweet sweet boy Coco is amazing as always, she's an (I think bisexual) awesome, loyal and fierce woman.
The twist is really what is making me want to purchase the 3rd book, I need to know how this ends...more

Lou, oh God I love her, she's snarky, strong, stubborn, powerful and so full of love and loyalty. I can say the same about coco I loved her so much, so so much. Their friendship made me smile and cry
It took me a while to warm up go Reid and Ansel but when I did oh my god when I did, all of these characters have me in a chokehold. Don't get me wrong I 100% swore at Reid (the dumb, morally confused in love dipshit) when shit hit the fan but ansel, the brilliant ansel has more courage than anyone double his age and more wisdom.
I don't know how I feel about the twist at the end regarding Reid and his, shall we say abilities, but I'll just have to see where the next book takes me...more

It's a chilling story with more substance than just a simple open and shut case. It switches between time periods (1969 and 1999) where the main character worked the case that made them, they returned for the funeral, the place never quite let go, even after all those years.
I can't say much without ruining part of the plot but I can say this is a book I will forever love to re-read.
It covers the extreme measures you will go to, to protect your loved ones, the will power it takes to survive, how you can never fully move on from trauma it will never fully leave you, binding you to your past sometimes in more ways than one. Fear can control even the most rational mind if left to run free. A murderer can be made of anyone given the right situation.
I also love the sub-plot (but not really) of witches and witchcraft, I really enjoyed this unique factor that I've never seen incorporated into a crime novel before. This is the first book I have read by Sharon Bolton and I'm not disappointed.
The final thing I have to say is... tell it to the bees....more
