This was totally a mood read for me. I heard it was a romcom about ghosts and it’s October so I thought, why not. I appreciate the creativity in coming up with a story that is completely different than usual romcoms. That being said, It took me a little bit to get into the story, I wasn’t sure if I liked it until the the last 1/4 of the book but it actually ended much better than what I thought it was going to! There were some strange parts but it’s also a book about ghosts so it totally makes sense!...more

The Friend Zone is definitely the perfect debut novel to set up this one. I enjoy her little nuggets of how and why she writes her stories. A lot of trigger warnings for this one, which is why I’m saying “spoilers.” Addiction while pregnant, infant withdrawal scenes, religious sects and sexual assault. Two sisters with a less than ideal upbringing, and both perspectives of their experiences. My heart was grieving so much for both of them as I listened. Definitely a hard read. Definitely a good read. This one is in the top 3 hardest books I read this year. Kelly Rimmer doesn’t shy away from difficult circumstances in her writing. ...more

Reading a Michael Connelly book every year is such a comfort read to me. I love his characters, I love watching them progress and grow in their lives and their roles in his story. Renee is my least favorite character in the Bosch world but she grew on me a lot this book. It’s crazy to me that he wrote about 3 different cases in this book and still Made them interesting and separate enough that I didn’t get confused and mix them up. I think that shows how law enforcement juggles all their different cases that come up. I feel like the book was a little slow until about half way through and everything hit at the same time and I had no idea how he was going to tie everything up with only 200 pages to do so. Incredibly grateful I was sent an ARC from my all time favorite author. Go out and get you a copy Oct 15th! ...more

And usually, that book is my least favorite in the series because I feel like it’s never done in a way that WOWs me. This one was pretty good tho. I had a little bit of a hard time connecting all the dots that were laid out before me but I really like how Allison Brennan handled this story. I was interested and it wasn’t what I was expecting at all.

I thought the premise was so intriguing! Someone who can feel other people’s emotions but can’t understand why? I’m interested. Learning about your “gift” by some random person in town that everyone dislikes…classic. The “energy work” and the problems that the main character tries to heal seem a little on the lame side. And the ending I just straight up hated.
I also think that Julianne Hough maybe should have hired a narrator for this one. I didn’t enjoy the little jingle to announce the chapters, it distracted from the momentum of the story by making such a definite break before continuing the story. She also could have benefited from a professional narrator that could have done different voices for all the different characters that there were. I think so often we take for granted how great the professionals are at their jobs. This one showed me for sure how good some of these narrators really are. I ended up being pretty bored the whole time. The story wasn’t gripping and heartwarming like it’s advertised to be and the story telling just wasn’t the best.

Kimberly Wetherell does a great job narrating this book. The different voices and different accents really help differentiate characters. I would give her 5 stars for her performance!
A cozy murder mystery set in a small Irish town where two twin sisters have inherited a cottage and a bookstore from their late grandfather. One sister is an author and the other sister is hoping to have a fresh start after things in her life go wrong. When a well known member of the community dies their first night there, they spend their time proving they aren’t the guilty party.
Everyone is a suspect but you don’t get a ton of direction pointing you toward any one person. It wraps up much differently than i expected with a motive that didn’t seem to match the rest of the story.

If you’re a fan of Scott Turow, you will enjoy Allen Esken. Just like Turow, he creates a world where his books involve the same characters, but each character gets their own book to dive deeper into their story. My favorite book of his is Heavens May Fall and that has a character named Boady Sanden. I’m a sucker for legal thrillers and I immediately was drawn to the character. This book, Nothing More Dangerous is Boady’s origin story. The author talks about how he started this book 20 years ago and finished it because of his daughter’s encouragement. What a story it is. I had a bit of a hard time getting into the story, it was slower than books I usually read. I love the premise, Leo Harting goes missing with a bunch of confidential files from the British embassy.
