I suspect that the outline ( however vague ) of this book was finished in record time, but the author definitely agonised over word choices. The metaphors and imagery are EXHAUSTING, and often don't make any sense.
There is no space to think this book through, the author inundates with bizzare turn of phrase:
"It was a bucktoothed little shithole, and no mistake. Not the most miserable building in all creation. But if the inn were a man and you stumbled on him in a bar, you’d be forgiven for assuming he had—after agreeing enthusiastically to his wife’s request to bring another woman into their marriage bed—discovered his bride making up a pallet for him in the guest room."
To sum it up, I believe the inn is disappointing.
The plot, however much I gleaned from 10% , was pretty formulaic. The POV was shifty. I didn't learn much about the heroine, except that she's supposed to be kickass.
I ignored the footnotes, which I consider lazy, though not uninteresting.
IMO, just take yourself off and read the Lies of Locke Lamora for a much better read....more

This book was depressing and not because of the emotional trauma the heroine ( should I call her that ? ) went through . The whole idea behind this co - dependent relationship and flimsy story line had me in a blue mood for two days . I was so upset that I ate my feelings and watched "90 days to wed " .
