I was a music education major at one point in my life and once even had dreams of being in Valerie's place, so I was super into reading this perspective from a character. The way the author describes how music make Caleb & Valerie feel throughout the novel was written really well and I enjoyed it the most out of anything I enjoyed. I found Valerie to be pretty annoying until nearly the end of the book, but that's kind of part of her story and her growth. Caleb was sweet and reserved and deserved to not be treated like garbage time and time again. When we finally learn what their last night together before the band broke up, you're at a point where you're rooting for them to make it work.
I DO have gripes with the music references being modern pop stars and not any bands or artists who would have inspired a POP PUNK band. Teen bands almost always start as cover bands, did they not have any of those influences in their own music?
Genuinely enjoyed reading and am excited to see what comes next from Jessica James.

The Campus Diaries series starts with Gigi Graham, daughter of Garrett and Hannah from 'The Deal'. This book also features cameos from a lot of The Off-Campus series, so reading those first is a must in my opinion! I needed to highlight all those cameos because it was so hard to keep up with all the names tbh. After the 'Briar-U' Series, I needed a break because honestly those books weren't that good. That whole series wasn't my favorite, so I was hesitant to start The Graham Effect. (and imo you CAN skip that series. There are mentions of a few of those characters but there's not really anything important other than knowing who coach Jensen's wife is) I was PLEASANTLY surprised and can genuinely say that The Graham Effect is some of Elle's best writing and my favorite of hers so far!
I ATE this book up! Although I didn't SUPER love the marriage situation, seeing Gigi and Ryder grow close and work through their darker/uglier sides together was really my favorite part. No third act break up, thank GOODNESS! ...more

As soon as things took a turn between the two main characters, the pace picked up SIGNIFICANTLY and felt like whiplash compared to the pacing of the first half. Juliet was lovable and a fun narrator but kind of forgettable otherwise. I could do without his possessive and manipulative POV. A therapist who uses his “work” to manipulate someone he supposedly cares about was wild to me. Big narcissist energy. He bothered me pretty much the whole book. I was really hoping I’d love it more than I did. Tried hard to not DNF...more

Even had to put the book down a few times because I got so pissed off at some parts. But it was all worth it. Another huge cliffhanger ending that has me ITCHING for the next installment...more

And not one but two miscommunications was just so stressful.
I loved Conor and his story, he grew as a character, and enjoyed him as a side character previously. Taylor was fine. Her being ugly because her wardrobe isn't as fashionable and she's fat apparently makes her ugly and that also didn't sit well with me. Overall meh vibes, I pushed through to finish it. The spice is fine.
I've loved everything I've read by Elle Kennedy and this is the first time I close one of her books and just feel meh about it. Pushed through so I can start The Graham Effect next!...more
