This is only the second title of Ms Nichols that I have read. I started with Book One, which was beautiful and engaging. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for this one.
I listened to the audiobook version of this title as well as the ebook, because the story was just dragging by, with seemingly no hope of a resolution. So switching to Kindle, helped me skim through chapters, so that I could just press on!
The next book in the series, involves Lily and I don’t think that I can bear it. I shall try another series by the author, before I make a final decision about her.

When you read the reviews for this title, so people can’t help but state their disappointment with Simon. I have to agree. You want to mark down the book because Simon makes you SO ANGRY!
But then, when you calm down, you realise that the reason WHY you react so adamantly, is because this story is so well written! You are emotionally invested in this story and Simon is, for want of a better word, an idiot!

If it isn’t sacrilege to say so, having read this entire story, on reflection, it makes me think of Freddy from “Cotillion” (if you know, then you know). This is who he matures into. Or, maybe Ferdy from “Friday’s Child”. Either way, it has this gentle , but not boring, GH style.
A thoroughly enjoyable tale. For me, the best of the bunch. ...more

I’m enjoying this series and they follow on nicely, one from each other. I listened to the audiobook version of this title, very well written and superbly narrated by Helen Taylor. Very enjoyable tales which take us deeper into the characters and personalities. I enjoyed learning more about Ombersley, who came across as enigmatic and mysterious, previously and develops really well.

I listened to the audiobook version of this title, read well, by Helen Taylor. I’m really happy that these stories were put together, as when one was finished, you immediately wanted to progress to the next.
I enjoyed both the first and the last story better than the second, but all three of them were really well written. I especially liked how the disparate family circles were depicted, as well as the male friendship dynamics.

Certainly the lead characters had only met 3½ times before knowing (separately) that they loved each other!
I’m not sure that I would say that it was a “thrilling” story, in any sense of the word, but certainly it is a light Regency cosy read.

This is one of those. A very good story, interesting and entertaining. Enjoyable characters who are easily relatable.
An English historical tale by an English author, it’s quite rare and therefore - for me - all the more enjoyable.
Because I prefer audiobooks, I hope that in due course, the Estate will commission a capable narrator to tell these stories. (I have only read this one, but I intend to read them all)!
In the meantime, I used the Kindle Assisted Reader function of this Kindle title, with my Amazon Alexa! It’s amazing how well it was rendered.

I’m afraid that, despite being a 24 year old Governess, Abby is no adult. In fact her thinking is just barely that of a teenager. Beyond naive when encountered with the situation of her sister.
Also, I don’t necessarily embrace the Jane Austen quotations for each chapter. Incongruous
I listened to the audiobook version of this title, read by Alison Larkin. The narration is ok, although at first it seems rather childish, but she manages to deliver all of various accents.

I enjoyed a couple of these (notably 2&4), only the first one was a recognised trope (for me), but it seemed overlong.
There was an excerpt from Héloise Says No, which I may try next, but doesn’t immediately appeal to me.
I have read 8 books from Mrs Robinson (back to back) and have enjoyed them as the Regency-Lite that they are. I think that theses would be the books I’d read in between the books I’m reading (or if I’d needed a break from a heavier tome).
Definitely worth reading, especially on KU.

These stories on the whole are light an engaging, although somewhat unusual. Once again I am intrigued by the fact that the heroine, although a lady of means, does not have a maid or an Abigail! She wanders about the streets unaccompanied and can, without censure, take up a job as the personal secretary to a Titled Gentleman!
Like the author, I have enjoyed, read and reread all of Georgette Heyer’s Regency novels and (whilst that does not make me an expert in the genre), I did not think that ladies of any quality would be allowed that much licence!
Notwithstanding the above, I did enjoy this tale, in much the same way that I enjoyed, Cecelia, Too Tall To Love. I think that, in this instance, because I really liked the Earl, Tom and the Earl’s household and her interactions with them. But not her over managing (bullying) ways.

I have found that I have enjoyed This is the 2nd Regency Romance novel that had been written by the author (although it is the 6th that I have read). I have found that I have enjoyed these early novels much more satisfying than the latter ones that I have read. The main characters are far more interesting, have more depth and do not prevaricate as much as in other stories (misunderstandings that could have been avoided with simple, truthful communication). That makes these stories (& this one in particular), far more interesting, enjoyable and immersive.
Notwithstanding the above, I do have one “raised eyebrow”, I am wondering how it is that Cecelia has no maid or Abigail and is able to wander around LONDON unchaperoned, with not one person remarking upon it!! Either inside or outside of the house !
That oversight aside, this was a very enjoyable tale.
