'The Dead World of Lanthorne Ghules' was an imaginative, brilliant read. It was dark, creepy and unexpected for a middle grade novel and I was blown away by the characters and storyline that instantly captivated me from the get-go.
From the very first page, readers are thrown into a parallel universe as we follow Edwin, a twelve year old, who answers an odd pen pal advertisement submitted by Lanthorne. Shortly after his visit, Edwin finds himself pulled into another world where he encountered grey skinned people, dark scenery, rotten and foul smells and odd creatures. His real adventure begins when he sets out to rescue his baby sister Mandoline from the depths of his pen pal's evil Aunt, Necra, who decided to kidnap and take her to their world
It was weird, wonderful and everything else in between that made this a fun riveting novel a standout and will surely be a re-read in my near future.
[image] [image] This was a snoozefest and that's putting it mildly. If you weren't already able to tell by the rating, "Reverie" was a huge disappointment for me, which nearly breaks my heart because from the get-go (the cover, blurb and everything in between) left me enthusiastic to dive into this read and within a span of a few chapters, it almost pained me to say that this wasn't what I had expected. The plot was too confusing and overwhelming, the author's writing style that was featured was too dry, mediocre and lame for such a large concept in which failed to meet all expectations and didn't have that wow factor to win me over.
I will give kudos to the author for the originality, queer inspired tale that pulled me to this read at the beginning. Sadly it just didn't do much for me and it's better for me to drop this now before I get too deep. Let's just hope the next one is a keeper.

Overall Opinion: After reading "Parallel Larry" blurb, I was immediately drawn in by the second chance romance that feature the main character being sent to an alternate reality, which later mentioned, by his fire hazardous toaster. It was an interesting concept in general yet there were too many factors that made this a disappointing read. it was lacking in any unbelievable form of romance and the characters did not mesh well together, in my opinion. Larry was overall somewhat likable and Greg was just too bland for my taste, making it an unlikely pair. Moreso this book was a bit bizarre and was the complete opposite of what I envisioned this novel will be so it ended up failing to meet any of my expectations.
