Darrow is a Red living in a mining colony on Mars. He sees his wife Eo executed by the government and almost dies himself. When he's rescued by the underground revolutionary group known as Sons of Ares, he learns his government has been lying to them all, and is recruited to infiltrate the Gold circle of society and help to bring it down from within.
This is a Sci-fi book that doesn't spell out anything for you. You're thrust into this world and its lingo. Darrow is an introspective narrator and you feel for his plight. Though it's billed as YA and written in a lot of short, choppy sentences, it's a novel for all ages. Some of the many characters begin to blend, but others like Cassius and Minerva and The Jackal really stand out.
I could totally picture this as a movie and can't wait to read Pierce Brown's next book in the series, Golden Son. ...more
