The Everlasting Rose is a good follow up to The Belles with the same great writing and characters.
I think that because I read the Belles so long ago I had basically forgotten a lot that happened but after reading a couple of summaries I was back on track. This did hinder my enjoyment a little but I don't think that this is the fault of the book so I can't fault it for that.
The book does follow on straight from the last which leaves us straight into the action which works for a really engaging book straight away and makes it really fast paced meaning that I raced through most of this book. This is in part to Dhionelle Clayton's writing which is so compulsively readable.
Although I did like the plot a have seen a couple of reviews that mention that the book packs a lot into the story and that it seems like this book should have been made into two. I think that I do agree with this. I think the overarching story does seem like it has been put into one which can leave a lack of room for development at times. It does, however, make it the part which is clearly quite good for reading.
I also think that the characters were also quite good for the story but again I did forget who was who in many parts which did let the story down a touch but overall I did really enjoy them.
The Verdict:
The Everlasting Rose is a good sequel which has an engaging plot and kept me reading until the last page....more

This review has been a long time coming since I love the other two book in the series it was no surprise that I devoured this one. Purple Hearts is a wonderful end to this series. I laughed. I cried. It was just great.
I think that why I am so attached to this series is because I adore all of the characters. They are just so great. I wanted them to be OK throughout the whole thing which is probably why I was close to tears by the end. Scratch that I think I did let out a couple at the end. The finale of this was just so heartbreaking and if it would have ended like that I would have been very annoyed but we are given obituaries for all of the characters after which I loved. I felt like their journeys were complete and we had gone full circle and their character development was so great.
The story was also told with an unknown narrator from the first book which was finally revealed in this book and I was happy to say that I got it right. I was actually happy that I got it right as they were one of my favourite characters and deserved all of the hype. They were still all important but I really like that they were given their time.
I also enjoyed the plot in this book especially Rainey's arc because at the end it was so raw and emotional, I can't get over how good it was. All of their arcs were really strong and I do love Jenou and Rio's arc especially as it touched on cowardice which is something that is not explored in WWII stories so I loved this. Of course, there was a lot of action and violence which is Michael Grant's trademark. This is obviously done well and I loved it especially as my faves were in danger and I wanted them to survive. Basically, I love the Soldier Girl series and Purple Heart is no except. It is one of my favourite books of the year and I loved it.
The Verdict:
Purple Hearts is a perfect finale to the series. I just wish there were more books so I can live with all the characters forever. ...more

While I really enjoyed Disruption and Corruption, I can't can't help but feel that they remind of YA's past.
Disruption and Corruption are YA that follow Maggie in a world where bands of the owner monitor the aspect and the compatibility of two individual people. The match predicts the matches of Quentin and Maggie and the story evolves from here...
Much of the plot of Disruption especially was quite new and I found it quite exciting and I remember binge reading it after a couple of days, however, when I picked up Corruption something was off. I found that I was no longer enjoying the story as I had before. It was no longer this fresh and interesting story and felt much like I had read it before, this could be partly to do with the fact that they were originally published in 2014 and I feel like this was clear when reading them.
The books do often feel like they were part of this old YA period with lines like "I let out the breath I didn't know I was holding" which meant I had to put the book down and breathe myself for a while as this is books that I read anymore.
This is by no means the book's fault and it is a very addicting series regardless of how familiar it feels as it is binge-worthy just because of the romance and if they will be canon or not. There are only two books so why wouldn't you?
The characters were very much a key reason about why I did enjoy this book as I really did enjoy Maggie as a character as she was very strong willed and it was nice to see a YA book that had a good family dynamic. I also really enjoyed Sam and is the basis of the best friend never got the girl.
Disruption and Corruption are also OzYA books and being one of the first of this that I read I would love to read more.
The Verdict:
Disruption and Corruption are together a good duology that equally balances a great science fiction story with a great romance. ...more
