Well, this is my first attempt in not reading romance books for awhile.
I have not much to say though about this book. One on hand, I really appreciate the grotesque body horror descriptions. That scene where they cut open the hare, that will live rent free in my mind for a while.
On the other hand... I found it extremely boring. I felt somewhat detached while reading it. Also, might've been 'me' case, but I don't find it that atmospheric enough.
But take it with a grain of salt as this genre is not really my genre. I'm sure there's a lot more people who would enjoy this more than I did....more

The horror elements though were done extremely well. There were parts in the book (the 'doors' & 'moving belly' chapters) really scared the hell out of me. I also love that we got the Baron's POV before he met Lustina. It was so fascinating to see things from his view, especially how besotted he was over her even before she knew about his existence.
Also, Farryn's chapters were the highlights of this book. It was disturbing, chilling and far more interesting if you ask me. I kinda wish we got more of her in this book. Jericho's parts were just... eh. Maybe that's why I didn't enjoy this as much as I did the first one.
Overall, it was an okay ending. I do prefer the first book compared to this one, mainly because of the plot was not as convoluted and the pacing was better in that one (in this one, it was pretty slow up until the 70% mark).

So, that was something. Generic as it can be but at least something. You got a magical healer for a female lead and ill-reputed king as the male lead. Added in a bunch of gemstones kingdoms, a prophecy and forced proximity trope between two people who should be enemies... well, you got this story.
With that said, overall, I think it has a decent story with okay-ish characters. It didn't blew me out of the water nor did it tells a unique story. Some of the plot, you can almost expect what was going to happen before it even unfold. Some of the dialogues were a little jagged and dare-I-say cliched. Honestly, those parts weren't that fun.
However, I still enjoy the writing and the world-building. Oh and also the mystical creatures. Plus, since this is a debut work for the author, I believe she'll find her own kind of stories as times go. Maybe something that is less generic and hopefully more original....more

Our protagonist here is the youngest sister in a witchy coven where each sister has their own special abilities. Marnie can sense someone's and her own soulmate. The soulmate, in this case, is 19 years old her senior and a grumpy CEO of a PR company and she knew about him ever since she was a kid.
I enjoyed this quick read more than I expected, especially with the kind of bad luck I have with my selection of books. Marnie is one of those hopeful, positive attitudes, almost childlike mindset kind of heroine and I love her so much. I think this book pulled it off, balancing between a compelling setting and an instalove romance between a dreamer and a realist. ...more

But I did wiki the work and wow, honestly surprised there aren't more retellings of this story. Aside from the tragic ending, it's a perfect tale of hedonism for our typical romantic heroes.
Or maybe it's only me that never did encounter any of these books.
Anyway, I found it to be just okay. I'm not super invested in the story, the plot is predictable and the romance was super rushed and lacklustre at the same time. It can't get any more mediocre than this. ...more

So please,It pained me that I don't like this one as I thought I would. Especially for a debut work, I don't want to criticise this book too harshly. So please, take this review with a grain of salt. I am very picky with my books and unfortunately, my mood does sometimes affect my impression of a book.
Writing-wise? I don't think it's bad. I rarely notice these aspects while I'm reading.
It's the pacing and plot that I mainly have issues with. The first 30% of the book was the most interesting part of this story. Our girl here, newly pregnant, caught her fiancee cheating with her best friend a day (or so) before their wedding day and immediately after was involved in a car accident that might not be accidental at all (actually yes, there's someone who wants her dead). So, she suddenly found herself to be in the afterworld where she was told to return back to 5 years ago to investigate something out (vaguely hinted). Then, she woke up, 5 years younger with the knowledge of her 30 years-old self... and dying of cancer. And she was approached by this mysterious pharmaceutical entrepreneur who wanted her to investigate a case of exploding bodies. Because you see, she's an heiress of a famous generational wealth company and also the youngest forensic scientist in the world.
Sounds immensely interesting, right?
Wrong. Because the rest of the book NOTHING happened. Remember the exploding bodies case? She never investigated the case at all. The fact that she time travelled back in time and met reapers in the afterworld? She shrugged it off and it was never properly discussed. Her cancer? Well, that was broached open but man, sometimes I think because we need to see her being the damsel in distress and nothing else. Because without the cancer thing, she would be the most boring person in the world.
The love interest? Fucking hell, don't even get me start with that. Their banter is like reading a banter between five-years old. "You stinky face." "Oh, youuuu stinky face."
I can't.
Honestly, I skimmed most of this book, up until the climax, where of course, you got this stupid conflict (view spoiler)[ which the hero was blackmailed to marry this other girl or else, the heroine will die. It fucking ended on the hero's wedding day to this other girl. Cliffhanger-y. (hide spoiler)] The whole thing is just so stupid, underdeveloped and disappointing. Well, first of all, that was hot as hell. Woof. This author really knows how to play around with the tropes & kinks. Plus, the overprotectiveness that comes along with the alpha hero didn't annoy me too much in this one, unlike my previous read. The heroine in this one? Could be better but at least she got more going on about her than just a pretty face. The plot? What plot? I'm here for the smut haha. But honestly, there was a plot with a 'stalker' from the past but it was not really built really well and was just there as cosmetics if you ask me.
But the smut is nice. The taboo aspect of it was really nice. All my favourite kinks were done well without being cringey and MUCH over the top as I want. So yeah, this is one of the good ones I think....more

Oblivious heroine and a head-over-heels hero? Sign me up! (btw, this is the wrong place for this, but if you have a good rec for me, please tell me). But I dunno. This doesn't work for me.
Worse? I hate it. The hero is so fucking pushy. He reminded me of those cliched cheerleader characters. 'It's all about what I want baby. You just sit there and be pretty for me.'... or well, that's the vibe I got from him that is.
The girl? Plain and boring AF. But of course, all men wanted to bang her as if she was the best damn thing that was ever birthed into this damn planet. She hasn't even opened her mouth yet and people gravitated towards her ass. And coming back to what I said, she's boring as hell. How the fuck?

How you're sure there's nothing up in her 'channel' there?
I might be getting too far ahead but that blurb made me curious. This girl is literally replacing her mother's place as this rich guy's fuck buddy. This man had had sex with your mother in exchange for providing your mother a place to live. That whole exchange is already yucky to me. And now he's sorta blackmailing your mother to kick her out of that house, unless you, the knocked-up daughter, entered another tenant-with-benefits agreement with him... hmmm.... what a great guy, right?
Although, that is why I was promised to in the blurb. I have no one to blame except for myself. All that I can say is this was definitely an experience. Also this rich guy not only have a pregnant kink but the ass kink. He went to town on her...hard.
Anyway, this is where I left you. Peace out!...more

I remembered she was going to release these more taboo novellas sometime in the future but that was a long time ago. I'm glad that these books are here now.
In this one, we just got straight-up smut. It started on this girl's eighteen birthday and that's it. Her dad and her bro thought she was free real estate now and she's theirs.
