This was another in a LONG line of the "Sons of Chance" series. Not my favorite but it does have loads going for it: steamy sex scenes, a wedding and that dang Epilogue!!

I had to FORCE myself to finish the audio version of this story. I simply REFUSED to get the eBook. The narrator was just awful. That aside, this visit to Last Chance Ranch wasn't as good as most but better than a couple...I'll leave it at that.
I enjoyed the slightly bumpy, non-traditional road to romance for these two including the surprise and LONG OVERDUE marriage proposal from a secondary character. FINALLY! I found myself rewinding the audio because I simply could NOT believe how bold Luke was with his intent. Wow.
Read it to keep up with the what's going on with the other characters as well...you just want to cuddle with Little Archie. They way he is written is just cute as heck!...more

While I might personally disagree with MOST of the decisions made by the hero and heroine (TSTL, both of them!!), I can understand why the characters did what the did. It made the whole secret baby thing a bit more palatable because I do NOT like that theme generally. It worked here.
I must also add that the supporting characters made the read more enjoyable for me-thank you, Ms. D'Alba. From that cute as heck kid to her obviously HOT brothers to the lovable Drake, the story had surprising depth-c'mon it's from Samhain...you KNOW what you usually expect from their titles. Oh, there is heat, btw. Make no mistake on that one.
Back to the review...I cheered, sniffled and ground my teeth throughout this story. My only real complain? NO EPILOGUE!
Aside from that, well done for a debut novel!...more

I liked that the author didn't fall back onto the usualy pages and pages of ranting, guilt, and finger-pointing!! She did what she felt she had to do. He is angry but understands and eventually accepts that he has to forgive her and move on.
What a concept! What a man!!
I should say that I DESPISE secret-baby-books, but this one was better than MOST I've read even if I thought her STUPID for hiding the kid as long as she did seemingly without any plans to let him in on the whole having a daughter thing anytime in the near future....more

I'm just saying...Foul! And he also tells her how he will always love the deceased wife but would die for her (the heroine). Should we, as readers, interpret that to mean that he would put his life on the line (despite his two children by Saint Deceased Wife) because he still loves SDW (Saint Deceased Wife) so much that he doesn't mind joining her?
Okay. I know that sounds harsh, but this is not the first time I've read something similar in a book. Can't these things be said PRIOR to the wedding night...or at least when you're not within MINUTES of JUST having consummated the new marriage?
Just....ew! The book dropped a whole star for me on account of that one!
I really enjoyed the kids in this book, not as much as the little beasties in Emmett, though....more

I think it was because it was I liked this one much better than the previous book which puzzles me because I really liked Bella and Sam in this book. I think it was because it was an audiobook. Even though I started with audio on this one, I just couldn't finish it. I recognized the narrator's voice from previous books, and I just wasn't buying her characterizations. My fault not hers.
Sexy, touching, and fun. Not a a goodread for serious historical genre buffs because the author does take liberties and a few words seemed a bit out of their time. Also, the Quaker speech/language pattern should have been a bit more than the "thee"s, but I don't read it for historical accuracy, and I liked it!!
I wasn't going back to the series after the 2nd book, but now I am intrigued. Something interesting to note...my opinion again...I honestly think it would have been a better book without the erotic spin. The sex was steamy, but the story would have been better without the graphic descriptions. Maybe not. Maybe if she had used an archaic word for a va-ja-jay instead of the normal erotic word for it??? I don't know. Still a really good read....more
