You'd have to be totally doped up to find the crap (yeah there was some of that) that was written amusing or entertaining IMHO. I really wish the author would have took the time to flesh out the story, (anything I say can be taking literally and figuratively)thicken up the plot, and delve more into to how sex machines came about. I've never liked to read about a whole bunch of vagina's and two pee-wees on the same body of flesh(the dildo-thingy knows it's not packin')and I'm not going to start now. A Not For Me Read. ...more
So, I was just a tad bored reading about Jace and Clary and their brother/sister issues. Should that even be in a teen book? I think it wise 2.5 Stars
So, I was just a tad bored reading about Jace and Clary and their brother/sister issues. Should that even be in a teen book? I think it wise for an adult to be aware of what kids are reading and stay in the know. That being said, Simon is really immature and dense. There is no way to sugarcoat it. He has been cast as the outsider and he plays into that really well. I'm really starting to dig Iz and her harsh behavior. Maybe she'll toughen Simon up a lil' bit. The ending was the brighest point for me and a great way to hook readers so they'll stay tuned for the next installment. Unless you were madly in love with the previous book, borrowing is a good option....more

The first two times I drowned and was scared to try again. Third time is the charm, I suppose. I stuck with it because I like to conquer things and now I am done. I don’t know how I feel about it. It was like a test and I passed. I actually had to take notes. But, wait! Should reading a book be this hard? Did I get reader’s point for understanding the many plots and purposes of the characters. No, and no. I was searching for the true meaning behind this epic read. The reward I knew this author was granting me. And what I came up with was potential. This author aimed so freaking high that he and his readers had no choice but to go for it. The journey as to whether he failed or not will have to be decided after a book or two more for this was not a standalone.
I was interested in a lot of characters; Lorn who thought of herself as before and after becoming the Adjunct. Paran, who seemed to be a tool, being used and then finally being set loose to make his own choices. Or did he? Tattersall who wondered what she was even fighting for anymore. Whiskeyjack, a man who follows orders but has his own rightful place in things. Crokus, a thief, who desires a woman of nobility and whose luck was not his own. And Kruppe who is a power unto himself. There really are so many characters with great foundations that I had to jot them all down because I could not keep it all in order.
The world building was solid and I can imagine it growing over the upcoming books.
I enjoyed this read and it’s worth giving book 2 a shot. It’s an intellectually infuriating read and I hope I didn’t endure it for naught. ...more

Let it marinate for a couple of days), but a few chapters and a couple of things that Arlen and a few other characters did left too many questions unanswered or were "out of the blue." Still...Kudos to Peter! I highly recommend this book to avid Fantasy readers who like their stories on the darker side. ...more
