Sentimientos encontrados con este libro. Por un lado, me ha conmovido la historia y cómo la narra Kate Clayborn, huyendo de lo fácil y con ese modo de narrar que tanto me gustó en su libro anterior, como llenando las frases de sensibilidad, de delicadeza incluso cuando cuenta cosas desagradables. No tiene sentido lo que digo XD, pero es que no sé expresarlo bien (se admiten sugerencias sobre cursos de escritura XD). El caso es que me gusta mucho el estilo de la narración. Pero lo que cuenta ya es otra cosa. Lo primero es que NO ES ROMÁNTICA, y lo digo porque no les veamos hacer guarreridas (que sí les vemos) sino porque la historia de amor es tremendamente secundaria por mucho que la escritora quiera darle más papel. La trama gira entorno a unas hermanas que buscan a su madre desaparecida y para ello una de ellas contacta con unos periodistas. Pues esa búsqueda es el hilo conductor del libro y la verdadera historia de amor, para mí, la de las hermanas. Tenía muchas ganas de leer este libro y no me ha decepcionado, aunque tampoco será el libro que me lleve a una isla desierta (Shura llegó primero). Si buscas un nadismo, sal corriendo a por otro porque este es duro y a veces no muy agradable de leer en ciertas partes. A cambio te da un maromo salido de los mejores sueños posibles, perfecto y maravilloso por todos los poros de su piel y sus ricitos. Y sporty melofó! Maravilloso. Me ha gustado muchísimo cómo está escrito, rápido, ágil, con muy pocos momentos para aburrirte. Y Kennedy Ryan creo que dota todo de muchísima intensidad, lo que hace mejor la lectura. Un libro muy bonito, la verdad. La historia entre Josh y Susan es de las que atrapa desde el primer momento en el que se conocen (en el libro anterior, Valle de sueños) y su libro se mantiene a la altura de lo que esperábamos (y deseábamos!). El libro es Josh, su duro pasado y el brillante futuro que tiene con Susan si se abre al amor y pierde los miedos. Los momentos entre ambos son estupendos, llenos de agilidad y ganas de tener la última palabra, los que nos brinda ratitos de tocarse las narices de lo más entretenidos (y hot, porque los enemigos se trincan vivos y bien que nos gusta). La sensación leyendo ha sido estupenda, de notar que el libro fluía de modo muy natural y te incitaba a no soltar la lectura, algo que últimamente me ocurre poco y me hace valorarlo más. Sé que se me va un poco la mano con la valoración pero ahora mismo 3'5 estrellitas se me quedan algo cortas, así que volver a disfrutar de la Heath tras el coñazo del libro anterior bien se merece media estrellita más. No es que el libro tenga gran cosa pero la Heath lo cuenta tan bien que te intriga y te emociona a partes iguales. Le valoro mucho el trabajazo que hace con el maromo protagonista porque pasa de ser un ajo porro a ser un hombre al que achucharías sin fin sin que dejes de reconocerle. La heroína es fantástica y el tercer personaje en discordia es... ❤ Pocas como ella para escribirlo tan bien. En fin, que son unas enaguas de la Heath las que merecen la pena. ...more

No conocía el libro y casi me caigo de culo cuando vi lo largo que era pero me lo he devorado, me ha resultado entretenidísimo y en el tramo final no podía dejar de leer, algo que tiene gran mérito teniendo en cuenta la horrible época lectora que estoy pasando y que me cuesta horrores concentrarme. No es una novela romántica ya que, aunque sí hay amor, es más bien un hilo conductor pero secundario, lo principal es el viaje vital de Fiona, la protagonista, y las tropecientas cosas que le ocurren (y de verdad que son tropecientas, yo creo que falta que caiga un meteorito). La novela transcurre a finales del siglo XIX entre Londres y Nueva York y es entretenidísima, los capitulos son cortos y aportan al libro mucho dinamismo, realmente no puedes dejar de leer. Es cierto que ocurren tantas cosas que no hay espacio para profundizar en personajes que son muy interesantes (Nick, por ejemplo) y que algunas cosas me hubiera gustado más leerlas que conocerlas porque las cuenten a toro pasado pero he disfrutado igualmente de lo que nos contaba y de las sorpresas que la autora se guardaba en la manga. Esta novela tiene el gran mérito de haberme mantenido enganchada y con ansiedad lectora en un momento en el que nada lo consigue, así que aplausos para ella. 3'5 estrellitas He tardado la vida en leerlo (realmente en escucharlo, que ha sido en formato audiolibro) pero más por circunstancias personales mías que por el libro en sí mismo, aunque reconozco que a ratos lo que estaba leyendo tampoco ayudaba. Vaya por delante mi admiración total por cómo escribe Alexis Hall y porque se haya metido en el fregado de escribir este libro, ya que narrar la historia de amor entre una mujer trans y el que fue su mejor amigo en época enagüil no es para nada sencillo. Menos sencillo es que te la creas y Alexis Hall lo consigue, entiendes que estos dos amigos se querían cuando ambos eran hombres y que se quieran cuando uno de ellos por fin puede vivir la vida del modo en el que desea. Las secuencias entre ambos, sobre todo en el primer tercio del libro, son bonitas, sentimentales y llenas de la tensión que deriva de que un personaje conozca la realidad y otro, no (no quiero spoilear). Pensé que este iba a ser el motor del libro pero no lo es, acaba siendo casi una anécdota desplazada por otras cuestiones y otros personajes. Y eso me ha descolocado algo, la verdad, ya que me parece que se alarga mucho esta cuestión para no ser el centro del libro pero obviamente acaba pasándose un poco por encima de ella para que otras cosas tomen protagonismo. El libro está muy bien escrito pero creo que Alexis Hall pierde mucha chispa y agilidad cuando escribe histórica, le noto mucho más suelto en contemporánea, ya sea esta cómica o no. Además me ha parecido excesivamente largo y muy lleno de pensamientos internos de los personajes principales (algunos bastante redundantes) pero también puede ser que al escucharlo haya sido sensación mía. En cuanto al audiolibro, me ha encantado el narrador. Como no es mi fuerte escuchar narraciones en inglés, algunas cosas he tenido que escucharlas varias veces para entenderlas pero no me ha importado, ya que la voz del narrador me ha parecido fabulosa, muy agradable. Además, los cambios de personaje no quedan ridículos (sinceramente, a veces escuchar a un hombre afinando la voz para hacer un personaje femenino te provoca risa floja pero no ha sido este el caso). Me ha encantado leer unas enaguas queer, tan distintas, con su punto divertido, mucha emotividad y unas secuencias hot más sentimentales que guarreriles pero muy bien narradas. ...more

3-3'5 estrellitas, por ahí va la cosa. Bastante mejor esta parte que la anterior, sobre todo porque aquí vemos el desarrollo de la historia de amor de Soohyuk y Yuna, además de que se resuelve toda la trama familiar. Como ya dije en el anterior, esta historia es digna de kdrama, me parece que, en ese sentido, tiene de todo, especialmente drama. Pero una cosa es verlo y otra leerlo, y ahí es donde la conexión con el libro es más complicada, al menos para mí. La autora es coreana (este libro es una traducción) y creo que, conociendo algo cómo es la sociedad, mi mente de lectora occidental (que quiere pasiones y emociones) pide cosas que ella, por su cultura más contenida, no va a darme. No me supone un problema con lo que cuenta pero reconozco que, para mí, la lectura se hace menos emocionante y más distante. De todos modos, en esta parte, al poder ver a Soohyuk enamorado de Yuna (oyeeeeeeeeeee, que en los kdramas no veremos nada pero aquí bien que le arrean al tema y nos lo detallan!) y ver cómo se va desenmarañando el misterio con su pasado, he leído mucho más interesada y la lectura no me ha costado. De cómo se comportan los personajes en sus relaciones familiares no puedo decir mucho, ya que hay determinadas cosas que son propias de su cultura y que a mí me cuesta entender, así que no debo juzgar. Dos estrellitas porque estoy invadida por la generosidad del espíritu navideño y no me apetece terminar el año poniendo menos nota pero le podría dar una estrella perfectamente. Espero que nadie meta esto en la categoría de Romance porque no es una novela romántica ni de lejos. Lo pedí en Netgalley antes de que pusieran el trigger warning y, cuando me lo concedieron, me mandaron un email contándomelo para que supiera lo que iba a leer. Sinceramente, si lo llego a saber, no lo habría pedido porque a veces no tienes el cuerpo para leer cosas sobre pérdidas de seres queridos e intentos de suicidio. Pero bueno, ya que lo tenía... Esperaba un personaje traumadito que se enamorara y floreciera de nuevo a la vida, blablabla. Bueno, pues no es eso lo que te encuentras. Aquí lo que hay es una persona que cree que su vida no tiene sentido y que, al conocer a otra, comienza a darse cuenta de que tal vez esté equivocado. Pero el libro lo que nos narra es ese proceso y más la amistad entre ambos que el amor. No hay momentos de pareja ni nada por el estilo, es la relación de acompañamiento mientras que te haces a la idea de la pérdida de la persona que amabas. Vamos, ni de coña lo que quiero leer en una novela romántica (aún no entiendo por qué Netgalley lo ha puesto en romance, de verdad). Luego hay varias historias y relaciones personales de los protagonistas que tampoco te aportan gran cosa. No es un libro que esté mal escrito pero me ha parecido que lo venden como si fuera una cosa que no es. Lo único que destaco es la visibilización que se hace de las enfermedades mentales y de los trastornos que todos podemos tener cuando, de repente, desaparece uno de los pilares de nuestra vida. Creo que es estupendo que esos temas se traten pero personalmente, si me los encuentro en una romántica, prefiero que el tono general sea un poco más alegre y que, no sé, llámame loca si eso, pueda disfrutar de una relación amorosa, algo que aquí no aparece....more

No es una novela romántica (lo aviso ya que casi exclusivamente es lo que leo) y, si bien la historia de amor es básica, lo importante es el contexto y el viaje de Hetty, cómo se puede pasar de ser una nazi convencida a arriesgar todo por ayudar a judíos. Ver todo desde el punto de vista de ello es terrible y descorazonador, sobre todo viendo cómo podemos establecer demasiados paralelismos con la situación actual. Reconozco que es algo que todo lo relacionado con esa época me toca especialmente y he acabado llorando porque la vida puede ser terrible e injusta y, aún así, siempre puede haber cosas buenas. La historia de amor me ha parecido bonita pero muy muy triste (cuánto he adorado a Walter) y el epílogo me ha dejado el cuerpo fatal pero, a la vez, me ha alegrado (cosas de loca, lo sé ...more
