Agradablemente sorprendida con este libro, me lo he pasado bastante bien leyéndolo. No me hizo mucha gracia el punto de partida y al final Lorraine Heath ha conseguido intrigarme y hacer que disfrute con esta historia tan extraña que al final ha sido mucho más bonita de lo que esperaba. La verdad es que parece que la Heath se ha dejado para esta serie todas las cosas locas que se le pasaban por la cabeza y, en este libro, para mí, funcionan. Yo creo que para contar una historia de este modo lo mejor es no contarla, que tampoco necesitamos saber de pe a pa el final de todos los personajes. Así, hay medio libro aislado que parece una historia y otro medio que es un batiburrillo donde algunas cosas están bien y otras te dejan loca en el mal sentido. Se lee muy bien, es ágil, divertido, con diálogos de los que me gustan a mí, fresquitos y que no quieres que acaben. Tiene su poquito de trauma, su poquito de amor fraternal, su poquito de guarrerismo, su poquito de amor... y un final que me ha hecho bajarle nota porque tira por el suelo todo lo que se ha construido previamente. No es que el libro acabe mal, es que parece que a la autora no le ha interesado acabarlo y se lo ha dejado escribir a su niña de cinco años. Y bien que lo vamos a comprobar… La aventura de Olivia es de esas que no da ni un respiro y, sinceramente, me lo he pasado pipa leyéndola, no hay ni un momento para aburrirte. Normalito. De la Heath espero siempre mucho y, aunque este no ha sido gran cosa, tampoco ha sido un espanto. Está bien escrito, se lee sin problemas (aunque sin enganche) y tiene unos personajes a los que coges cariño, especialmente a Rexton, el protagonista, que es maravillosísimo. Lo que pasa es que tampoco cuenta una historia que emocione y ella misma crea una tensión que a mitad del libro se carga de un plumazo. Decente pero olvidable....more
Un libro muy bonito, la verdad. La historia entre Josh y Susan es de las que atrapa desde el primer momento en el que se conocen (en el libro anterior, Valle de sueños) y su libro se mantiene a la altura de lo que esperábamos (y deseábamos!). El libro es Josh, su duro pasado y el brillante futuro que tiene con Susan si se abre al amor y pierde los miedos. Los momentos entre ambos son estupendos, llenos de agilidad y ganas de tener la última palabra, los que nos brinda ratitos de tocarse las narices de lo más entretenidos (y hot, porque los enemigos se trincan vivos y bien que nos gusta). La sensación leyendo ha sido estupenda, de notar que el libro fluía de modo muy natural y te incitaba a no soltar la lectura, algo que últimamente me ocurre poco y me hace valorarlo más. Ha sido una lectura muy cómoda, adictiva y bonita que me ha dejado con ganas de que no terminara. Ya os contaré más en la reseña!...more
Sé que se me va un poco la mano con la valoración pero ahora mismo 3'5 estrellitas se me quedan algo cortas, así que volver a disfrutar de la Heath tras el coñazo del libro anterior bien se merece media estrellita más. No es que el libro tenga gran cosa pero la Heath lo cuenta tan bien que te intriga y te emociona a partes iguales. Le valoro mucho el trabajazo que hace con el maromo protagonista porque pasa de ser un ajo porro a ser un hombre al que achucharías sin fin sin que dejes de reconocerle. La heroína es fantástica y el tercer personaje en discordia es... ❤ Pocas como ella para escribirlo tan bien. En fin, que son unas enaguas de la Heath las que merecen la pena. ...more

No conocía el libro y casi me caigo de culo cuando vi lo largo que era pero me lo he devorado, me ha resultado entretenidísimo y en el tramo final no podía dejar de leer, algo que tiene gran mérito teniendo en cuenta la horrible época lectora que estoy pasando y que me cuesta horrores concentrarme. No es una novela romántica ya que, aunque sí hay amor, es más bien un hilo conductor pero secundario, lo principal es el viaje vital de Fiona, la protagonista, y las tropecientas cosas que le ocurren (y de verdad que son tropecientas, yo creo que falta que caiga un meteorito). La novela transcurre a finales del siglo XIX entre Londres y Nueva York y es entretenidísima, los capitulos son cortos y aportan al libro mucho dinamismo, realmente no puedes dejar de leer. Es cierto que ocurren tantas cosas que no hay espacio para profundizar en personajes que son muy interesantes (Nick, por ejemplo) y que algunas cosas me hubiera gustado más leerlas que conocerlas porque las cuenten a toro pasado pero he disfrutado igualmente de lo que nos contaba y de las sorpresas que la autora se guardaba en la manga. Esta novela tiene el gran mérito de haberme mantenido enganchada y con ansiedad lectora en un momento en el que nada lo consigue, así que aplausos para ella. Tengo sentimientos bastante encontrados con respecto a este libro que tenía tantísimas ganas de leer. Tomando como eje una familia coreana que emigra a Japón, creo que nos hace entender (o al menos lo intenta) la terrible posición que tuvieron tantos coreanos que emigraron a ese país y que sufrieron el racismo de los japoneses, lo que lastró sus posibilidades de futuro allí. También nos hace ver la también terrible situación de los que, naciendo ya en Japón, seguían siendo despreciados por ser coreanos pero también eran despreciados en Corea por ser considerados japoneses. Ese acercamiento a ellos y a su situación en ese país es lo que más me ha gustado del libro, así como determinados personajes que he adorado. También hay momentos en los que la escritora ha conseguido transmitirme ciertas sensaciones a través de su escritura y han sido momentos que me han sorprendido y he apreciado mucho. Sin embargo, la tónica general de la narrativa del libro me ha resultado bastante decepcionante. Más que una narración épica me ha parecido un reportaje periodístico, una sucesión de hechos contados de un modo más bien aséptico y distante, sin apenas sentimiento, lo que hace perder fuerza a personajes que claramente se ve que la tienen y ha hecho que el libro me haya afectado mucho menos de lo que debería teniendo en cuenta todo lo que se cuenta. Y esa es otra, que se cuenta mucho pero rapidito y sin profundizar en algunas cosas (pero perdiendo el tiempo en otras que no aportaban nada). Pero lo que me ha dejado ya el cuerpo de jota es esa sucesión de desgracias que te hacía temer pasar la página por si al final palmabas tú. No sé si ha querido hacer una analogía entre la familia de Sunja y Corea y transmitirnos que ambas son fruto de una sucesión de desgracias a las que han sobrevivido pero de verdad que ya a veces me parecía que cualquier excusa era buena para que pasara algo malo. Además, no es una historia que tenga inicio y fin, sino más bien unos determinados años convulsos que se han contado a través de una familia. Podría haber seguido narrando cosas sobre ellos sin problema alguno. Así que no puedo decir que haya sido una mala lectura, porque conectas rápido con la familia y con lo que cuenta, además de que siempre mantiene tu atención al ocurrir alguna cosa, pero no me ha gustado nada cómo nos cuentan todo y he terminado con la sensación de que podría haber sido mucho mejor....more
