Emory is a character that I instantly loved, she is fierce, fearless and csn definitely hold her own. Initially weary of her surroundings, she doesn’t back down and takes her reclaimed duties and tasks with full force. I love how we instsntly get to know her inner thoughts from right off, she is a character that comes across as wiser than her age of 21.
She’s fierce, badass, and she doesn’t back down to those that oppose her on Black Dawn. Presumed dead, missing memories, but none of this phases her all that much: she is such an addictive character to read, I couldn’t help but admire her more and more as she’s put through seversl trials and tribulations.
By the end of the story, she’d evolved so much, it was utterly brilliant and I couldn’t be more proud of her. I cannot wait to see what book 2 in store for her.
Brok is honestly such a darling, he’s so just…wow: I don’t mean this wholly in a swoony way, no. It’s just a combination of his humbleness, loyalty, and fierce gentility towards Emory that I love. He too, had a massive character journey throughout, and every bit of it was thrilling.
Memphis, Adir and Nyx: Where do I begin with these three. Each I swear were as cunning as the other. Its funny, I wanted to hate Nyx, she could be so spiteful at times, but I get why. And that is a massive kudos to Mallory for writing such brilliantly wicked but fabulous characters. Adir, our general antagonist, wasn’t hateable either, he’s just ruthless and manic, yet I felt for the chap. Memphis, I definitely thini his role will be elevated in the next book, and I can’t wait to see how his character comes into play further.
Lets talk about the writing:
Mallory McCartney writes brilliantly! She weaves characters of different species together so well, I could clearly visualize her vindictive fae, her witches and time travelling gent. I feel like I have a clear picture in my head of what these characters look like, and already after this first adventure of theirs, I feel like I know them so well.
McCartney writes in character chapter POV’s, which just adds to the personal element of each of the characters. I loved each chapter from the narrating character, it feels like it gives us a further insight into their minds and why they do what they do. Full of twists and turns, this book will definitely leave you wanting book 2 right away.
An epic start to what I know will be brilliant, and I can’t wait to see what book 2 reveals. Thanks again to CleanReads and Mal for providing me with a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

It delivered at every point, with that amazing sass and wit of Apollo, still trapped in a human body, as he undergoes his quest to regain his Godly status. Joined by Leo and Calypso, and with the addition of a few friendly and familiar faces, I loved this book a lot! I'm keeping this one short though, because I feel like there's not much I can add on from book 1. Like, as much as I enjoy these adventures, I feel like I knew what was coming in this one, and that made it less of a surprise for me when I reached the end- though I do think the last installment will be the best of the three, at least, I hope so! I feel like a lot is riding on it! My favourite parts of this book were the scenes with Leo, Calypso, Apollo and the Hunters of Artemis! I love all those Hunters so much, it was great to see them band together and support Apollo and vice versa! I appreciate how much Apollo, even in his mortal form, has grown so far in this journey! He's been so endearing, and I feel like he's matured so much after the events of the last book, I loved that he thought of his children, and I personally felt like he was less reckless and impulsive this time around, too. Definitely excited to see how this series wraps up!...more
Firstly, a huge thank you to Hachette Australia for sending me a beautiful finished copy of one of my very most highly anticipated releases, Ninth House, to read and review. All thoughts are my own. Wow, where to begin! This was so wonderfully dark, packed to the brim of magic most dark and powerful, with an underlying mystery, well, a couple in fact, that there was no way to predict the outcomes and the causes! I cannot even begin to tell you how many times throughout this novel that I just gasped wildly, and exclaimed shocking reaction words as I read! Leigh Bardugo never ceases to amaze and awe, I tell you! When I wasn’t reading Ninth House, I was thinking about it so much! Even when I found myself sporadically awake throughout an evening, my mind would wonder to the book and think about what possibly could have happened next! The prologue instantly grabbed my attention and did not let go once! I instantly found myself wondering what had happened to Alex – or Galaxy, as she’s called and just finding myself instantly needing to know more! At the same time, due to her initially malnourished and impoverished appearance and the fact that the girl has been through hell and back, frankly a few times over, I instantly felt for her and just wanted to hug the poor thing! By no means is Alex a saint though, oh no, she’s flawed (I mean, I know, we all have our moments), she’s blunt, fierce and will brutally say what she thinks! She has a special gift too, one that has been unheard of for some time…Alex can see Greys, people who have tragically passed away. I mean, can you imagine? This itself actually conveyed a few scenes throughout the book which had me gasping, something particularly poignant and devastating involved a flashback of Alex as a child who found herself in just a helpless position…. Alex is tasked with keeping the secret societies of Yale under surveillance, she knows that sometimes dark magic is dabbled in, and that things can definitely be sinister and not at all clear cut, this being confirmed when the body of a girl is found on campus! Who killed her? And what is her connection to the secret societies? Only Alex is sceptical of the supposed theories as to what happened, she was taught well (more on that shortly), by the Golden Boy of Leith, and frankly I love how brazen and brave Alex is about investigating everything and seeing things brought to light, even if it means putting her own life in danger. She’s just so gutsy and goes through so much in this, on top of everything she’d been through already! Back to Darlington, our Golden Boy of Leith. I loved loved loved the mystery shrouding his character! It was such a pleasure reading about him as a young boy and seeing how he grew to be the passionate mentor (or even more) to Alex as she was recruited to undertake her mission of investigating those questionable activities of those secret societies who have boasted a plethora of well to do respected figures in history! I loved Darlington and Alex’s chemistry too! You could tell just how their was a special something blooming between them, a tenderness and that sense that Darlington would see no harm come to her and there was a real respect that Alex felt towards him too, which is totally bittersweet! Why? Well, without going into too much of the narrative, I personally felt like something may have been amiss, between the past and the present, but oh man, finding out what and how and why was just so thrilling, shocking, engaging and satisfying! I am so hyped for the next book already! Leigh Bardugo has longtime been a favourite author of mine and I just found Ninth House to be a completely dark, engaging and riveting story with dark magic and intrigue throughout! You must, must not miss Ninth House! For me, it was just such a unique and atmospheric and often chilling read, definitely a stand out of my reading year so far and a favourite of mine, too. Utterly brilliant!...more

But yes, I personally felt that this novella was more character orientated than plot, and I loved every minute! Characters: Feyre and Rhys, together and separately, were perfection, as always. I will always have all of the love in my heart for these two, they will never not make me swoon, and I will always fangirl over them; the amount of love they have for one another is perfection, like, Rhys has always treated Feyre as his equal, and Feyre loves Rhys with all her being. I love how it felt like both of them had matured throughout this book, even after A Court of Wings and Ruin, like, they learnt to lean on one another more, I’m certain! And they both love their Inner Circle so much, the whole lot of them give me life! There were so many moments in this book I felt so proud of Feyre, the both of them, in fact. Mor is amazing! I only wish she had more page time, I love how close she is with Feyre, and how highly she holds Rhys and everyone in her regards; reading things from her point of view made me feel so much for her, after everything she went through in the past and as she faces those who have hurt her the most! Elain and Nesta were where I got a tad frustrated, like, taking into account the end of book 3, I personally thought they would both have different mindsets and attitudes but at the same time, I found myself wanting more of her and Elain in the book, and I’m definitely excited to see what’s in store for both characters, I’m still left wondering certain things about both of them, and I know I’m going to be thinking about this book for a good while now! After the events of WAR, I had been wondering about Amren for a while and was curious to know how she was faring and adjusting, I feel bad kinda for laughing at her in one particular scene, but I felt like I was laughing along with the rest of The Inner Circle and I must admit I enjoyed learning a bit more about the sass queen! Az and Cassian are both as precious as ever, I love the banter and love between everyone, and I was just laughing at a specific scene with the three Illyrian babies! For me, it’s always been the characters that make these stories so amazing, honestly, and I will always hold these books amongst my most favourite. Writing: Sarah J Maas is without a doubt, one of my all time favourite authors, she writes so magically and vastly, I feel like I can easily always pick up any of her books and get transported away and be reunited with old friends; I can picture everything that she writes so easily, and as always, nothing felt forced! I felt like, during this book, I was right there next to everyone and going through, and feeling what they were! The writing was utterly glorious and addictive, I couldn’t put it down; and even though there were moments when I was raising my eyebrows, I had a feeling these things were happening for a reason and now I’m even more impatient for the next Tale from Prythian! This world will be one I’m always happy to fall back into, and I’ll never not fall under it’s spell! The acknowledgements were gorgeous too, Maas puts so much emotion into her books, and her characters, you can tell how much she loves writing them, and ach I can’t wait for Kingdom of Ash, which I’m fairly sure will be the death of me! Overall: When I heard this was a bridge novella between the two Thorns and Rosesseries, I had so many feelings and expectations; sufficed it to say, they were definitley met, and then some; this book had every thing I hoped for in it, and I didn’t think I could be more impatient for the next book, but I am! Thank you, Sarah J Maas, for another magical installment! I hope that we have our questions answered even more, and I can’t wait to see how everything from here on develops! ...more

Being long fascinated by the Arthurian legend and Tennyson's poem, The Lady of Shallot, being a longtime favourite of mine, I knew I was not going to be disappointed, because this book combined both these things.
It is a retelling of Elaine of Ascalot, the only daughter of Barnard of Ascalot. Growing up in a predominantly male camp, being the healer for Arthur and his men, she's seen her fair share of brutalities. The plot deepens when she meets the snarky Gwen, who at first does everything she can to taunt Elaine. What unfolds was so fast paced and deeply moving, this was a joy to experience.
What I loved about the writing is that I felt like I was Elaine, aided by the first person narrative. My heart was just with her throughout the book, and I found listening to the Outlander and Merlin soundtracks definitely heightened the emotions in this book and really brought out the atmosphere.
This is definitely something I'd read again, in a heartbeat. I love how the author stuck to the format of Tennyson's "Lady of Shallot" when writing this; it definitely made it more like a song rather than a novel. It flowed perfectly and I definitely got lost in the world of the Sparrow. ...more

I was instantly hooked from the first page and I couldn’t wait to see what would happen next. Straight away, I could tell this book was going to be a lot more insane than the first one, and I definitely wasn’t wrong.
So much had changed since the first book, honestly, I couldn’t anticipate what was to come and I felt so conflicted about several characters. It was interesting seeing everyone interact after the events of the last book, and honestly I feel like my thoughts on the sisters (slight spoilers ahead) have definitely changed since the first book. It was definitely insane, Katherine’s intensity and hunger majorly grew, and she made me nervous, as she almost thought she was invincible. But honestly I still massively felt for her throughout, and let’s not even start on her and Pietyr. I’m still so freaking conflicted about him from the last book and now. I actually think now my favourite queen has changed and honestly I was shocked yet excited by the last few chapters! I need to know what happens next! And without being too spoilery I really hope there’s more of Camden and Jules, because I freaking adore those two; and honestly I need to know what happens with the whole story next. Honestly, it’s insane.
Blake’s writing definitely improved since book 1, I found the pacing of this book to be completely insane! As I said, you couldn’t anticipate what was to come and it was just brilliant! This book was even full of more darkness and wickedness than book 1, it was addictive and I could picture everything as I was reading. Even one scene caused me nightmares, which was interesting. ...more

The first half of this book was amazing, I was laughing and crying, I mourned Mr Kadam, though I expected his death was a long time coming. He was an amazing character mentor to Kels and a father figure to Ren and Kishan.
The second half of this book decreased its pace, I felt like things were happening but I wasn't mind blown as I expected it to be. I liked the incorporation of both British poetry and Indian mythology weaved throughout the story, but aside from that, the plot didn't scream out at me.
Kishan was my favourite character throughout the book, his sacrifice for his brother and the girl he loved, no, the girl he was engaged to, so Ren and Kels could be happy was moving. It annoyed me at the same time. I felt like Kelsey was so selfish towards Kishan's feelings, and she was jumping back at forward between her feelings for either brother throughout the book. She claimed she loved Kishan but she'd only mope that he wasn't Ren. It got so tedious.
