I lovely creepy crypts, historic graveyards and musty tombs and What Remains of Heaven incorporated these into a Regency murder mystery with twists and turns galore. And then we have the ongoing mystery concerning our dashing hero Sebastian St Cyr, Viscount Devlin's personal history. It all makes for riveting reading.

Five star read all the way.
PS - This would make a brilliant movie! Obviously acclaimed screenwriter/director Lawrence Kasdan thinks the same as he has the rights. I so hope he can capture the essence of the characters when he brings it to the big screen but as Lou Berney the author is involved I think I can rest easy....more

Two words... Will Trent.. the most unique, resilient and endearing hero I think I've ever read. In each instalment of this series we learn more and more and unwrap layer by layer these characters' lives.. the abovementioned Will, loyal Sara, feisty Faith and the veterans Amanda Wagner and Evelyn Mitchell with their tough exteriors masking honourable intentions. For such addictive reading and great story telling, I'll even put up with horrible crimes and heinous killers!...more

Can't wait to see what Ms Slaughter does next with these damaged and intensely interesting people whilst they investigate and solve the most evil crimes imaginable. ...more

Although I have to admit the first quarter of the book I was a little worried, I guess after the fantastic action packed explosion of reading enjoyment in her previous book Feversong the initial pace in this one was a little slow. But as soon as a Beast landed in Dani's apartment all bets were off and what followed was KMM's usual head rush of action, fantasy, imagination and passion, I devoured the rest of the book in one sitting. How she finally fulfilled the promise of Dani and Ryodan started all those books ago was literally written in the stars. Sigh.
Yep, five star read all the way.
Re- read - April 2021. Still awesome, I think I enjoyed it even more if that is possible second time round. And now onto Kingdom of Shadow and Light, happy and sad to finish this epic series....more

There were a lot of threads to pull together in this final instalment of this arc of the Fever series - some may have been glossed over a little, the majority were handled admirably and a few that were absolutely hit out the park awesome! And definitely some where tissues and a big block of chocolate were required. Was it is as good as the first series arc which is one of my favourite of all time? Mmmm, probably not but the feeling of total immersion in a world of amazing characters and chapters of inspired writing still give it a five star rating.
There are apparently two more books in the Fever World to be written.. (view spoiler)[ please, oh please let us have the glorious finish of Dani and Ryodan together!! Now that would be the icing on the Happy Ever After cake. (hide spoiler)]...more

An imaginative melding of paranormal legend and historical romance the tale started over seven hundred years ago when a Viking raiding party was cursed by an evil witch, that each of the nine men would become their token animal for either the day or the night. A curse that could only be broken by finding each of their amulets the witch used in her spell and of course their true love.
