Oh God, I'm so sorry. I just can't finish it not knowing where the fuck am I going with this? So I sorta knew this wasn't going to be a nice ride before I even started it, I even felt scared when I picked this book lmao. Mainly because I was trying to convince myself to give this a try by trying all the reviews. And I did! Read it. The good and the bad. And I did, convinced myself to start this and I absolutely regret it :| I had several urges to dnf it but I was still convincing myself to see where this was going then started to jump reading the book but the urge came again for the last time I can't seem to carry on any longer.
First thing first, actually this book would be perfect and I would definitely give higher rating if it's no longer than 300ish pages. I was trying to identify where was this going and passed all the major conflict but the book still has 100+ pages before it ends. A lot of unnecessary moments, the plots were scattered everywhere, a lot of things didn't add up from the start until in the middle, a lot of stuff just got benched to the side and forgotten. I saw someone said this book drags on forever and I'm afraid I must agree with it. Also the book title and the synopsis doesn't line up with what's going on with the book too.
Second, some characters are written poorly than the others. I don't get why the author made Henry, Nathan, and Russ so good but the not with Stassie and Sabrina. It seems Stassie was delusional for thinking her and Nate are frenemies. Nate was always thought her was his friend throughout his pov, she did Nate so bad and I was constantly wondering why would Miss Grace wrote her up like that? Also Sabrina, yes it was great to see a Muslim character. Though I'm not a Muslim myself, I have Muslim family members who were not like that. Saw someone said Sabrina was Muslim just for diversity and I hate to say I agree. If Sabrina ended up just like Stassie, was it necessary to bring a light to her religion? Why not just make it blurry like other characters? But Henry, though. Henry was the MVP. Alongside Nate and Russ. They were greatly written. Even I would go as far as including Aaron in this, considering how I fucking hate him.
Third, the writing style was not my favorite. Actually new adult subgenre is not my favorite go-to cause I personally cannot relate to the situation (God I'm only 24 though but only because I never went to college so I don't get and relate the feeling of attending one). There were some nowadays phrases that I don't understand, amongst other reasons this is why I'm reading this so slow. The romance was bland, a lot of funny shits going on specially with the hockey team (I like Nate's pov better), the sex scenes were hot.
I started this on a positive mood but ended up mildly pissed and disappointed. Unfortunate, it's what it is. I really want to finish this but... I can't and I'm coming to a realization I had the same reaction when I tried to finish Penelope Douglas' Punk 57 ...more
