It was just so messy and I was surprised when I found out that the romance and interaction between Bailey and Greyson was going everywhere. Okay first of all, I was actually pretty intrigued and hooked when I got the gist that this is suspense romance with whodunit trope- and not to add the instalust between a stripper and a bodyguard, sounds interesting right? The potential was right in front of your nose but sadly the execution was just messy. There were a lot of things that felt unnecessary. Like the 3rd break up act over a loan was just so fucking stupid- though yes I did laugh my ass off when I read it but I still think it was kinda unnecessary. Not to mention the way they fought with each other, it was just plain stupid and the only picture I caught was they were basically just screaming at each other in the face without understanding each other.
The plot twist was also predictable. Like boringly predictable. When I first suspect the real killer, it was like wait it was no way that he is the killer. But the way the real killer was rarely appeared in the story didn't make sense to me in my head, it's like giving an important role for someone who's not really exist in the story. honestly there were so many things that really made me shaking my head the whole time reading this and mainly because how idiot and stupid some things in this book, but tbh I did enjoy this book!
This was fun, as I said the book actually has a lot of potential despite how mess the execution was. It was a quick and fun read, and hot too. I know I have said a few hundred times that fuck instalove and instalust, but this instalust was surprisingly good! It's the way that none of the mcs appeared too horny or horny all the time, it's the way it really was instalust because they were really sexually attracted to each other appearance. It's not cringe to the point that both my fingers and toes were curling, the sex scene was hot but too brief, the writing was surprisingly very eloquent! And the characters were just okay- nothing too special but if I could say one thing about both mcs, they were stupid af ...more

This is such a wonderful, heartwarming, and heartbreaking story of a family, love, and daughter. I learned a lot when I read this book whether about being a daughter and mother later, about truly believing in yourself, about really finding out and realizing who you truly are. This is a great book and I am so relieved to find this book. I use admit it almost hit close to the home, such like growing up in an Asian family though without tension as tight as Hiromi and Mika has in the house, like how Mika feels about herself was somehow the same with how I feel about myself at some point in my life, how how the heartbreak that she felt also almost mirroring to myself. This book is such a relatable book and fuck I have a soft spot for relatable and realistic fiction book.
Okay on to the review.
The writing is not my personal go-to POV that I like but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I really like the time span in this book is long and it really emphasized Mika's growth until the end of the book, and it's not just her self-growth but also her growth in relationship with Penny, Hiromi, and Thomas. I also really like how the author keep slipping Mika's past in between of her vulnerability in certain times in the book, it felt so relatable you know? How out of nowhere you suddenly and unconsciously dragged yourself back to the lowest or sometimes most humiliating or most hurtful moment in your life? It was suck and I felt that it was such a great thing for Emiko to put in this book. The flow was no way slow and fast too, I like that each moment took its time to flow.
The plot is oh my gosh- it was stupid to be really honest but I deeply understand why did it happen and where did it come from Mika, it was all part of her journey to find her true self. I just couldn't really convinced myself to accept that it was make sense in my head. Well at least the first conflict, we have two huge conflicts here. The second one did stabbed me right in my heart, I was bawling my eyes when I hear the hurtful words that directed toward Mika and I understand that so much how she felt, I cried with her. The realization of the truth that hit so hard in her head she almost swayed when retreating. Goodness, I really am a sucker for such a heartbreaking book and it's almost like a sickness at this point ...more

There are some things that I'll mention is based on my preference but there are some that doesn't quiWelp- this doesn't work well for me and it's bad.
There are some things that I'll mention is based on my preference but there are some that doesn't quite working in my opinion.
This book really made me realized that writing is a really important skill for an author to have and in order to have a great writing skill, one of the thing that you must have is a deep understanding and collection of vocabulary. Which the author lacks. And why do I think about this and highlight it in my review? Because I felt this with what happened in the book and I feel very unfortunate because this could be easily rectify. To explain more is why do I think this is a very important matter to highlight is because when you write a book with characters in it everything that the characters did in the book (and I meant it every little thing that the characters did), has a very huge impact for the character development and identity.
Now I felt this so badly throughout my reading because the writing doesn't do any good for the characters in the book especially the main characters, it was due to how some certain words were used at the wrong times and too often (like the word spat, hissed, snapped were used even when the situation wasn't fit). Honestly, the characters were bland and has nothing special to begin with and the writing just added fuel to the fire in making them portrayed in "not bad but not good either" light.
Other than how the writing impacted the characters, it also impacted what the author was trying to convey or to deliver to the readers and it didn't do any of that to me. It didn't deliver or convey what the author trying to and I'm honestly quite sad with this you know. Throughout my read I really trying to find something that I liked and I found none because of this.
Now on to my preference, this is not my go-to writing that I like but it did it job adequately. Though there were some weird things that I dislike about how the author described the mc with their job and it just plain weird in my opinion (she described them too often with "the musician" and "the painter", and sometimes when they were together she described them as "the couple"), and it's because I was often confused who is she talking about with that.
The flow was dragging a lot without going anywhere. The first half book was fine and it was great, I enjoyed it better in the first half. But the second half was just badly dragging and a lot of pages and chapters exists but nothing significant was happening and to be honest I started to skimmed a lot toward the second half. So the verdict is the book is unnecessary long.
The story was okay and as I said in my update this is nothing new and we've seen this a lot in every romance books so it's just so-so to me. As I suspected, since this is just the common fake dating romance, there was nothing new and refreshing to make this book different from any other. It was great at first hald but get messy in the second half especially near the end where the last final blow. I admitted I was laughing my ass off because I thought Jet was going to messed up, you know? But Oak did and she blamed it on him ...more
