Όταν πριν κάποια χρόνια είδα και απόλαυσα την ταινία "Βαλκανιζατέρ" με τους Στέλιο Μάινα και Γεράσιμο Σκιαδαρέση (εξαιρετικό δίδυμο!), δεν ήξερα ότι βΌταν πριν κάποια χρόνια είδα και απόλαυσα την ταινία "Βαλκανιζατέρ" με τους Στέλιο Μάινα και Γεράσιμο Σκιαδαρέση (εξαιρετικό δίδυμο!), δεν ήξερα ότι βασίζεται σε αυτό το σχετικά άγνωστο βιβλίο του Σάκη Τότλη. Τώρα ήθελα να διαβάσω κάτι μικρό και αμιγώς ελληνικό και αποφάσισα να πιάσω αυτό, ενθυμούμενος πόσο πολύ μου άρεσε η ταινία. Λοιπόν, ωραίο ήταν και το βιβλίο τελικά, με ορισμένες διαφορές σε σχέση με την ταινία όσον αφορά μερικά κομμάτια της πλοκής, ενώ επίσης στο βιβλίο υπάρχουν κάποιοι ενδιαφέροντες εσωτερικοί μονόλογοι του αφηγητή-πρωταγωνιστή, που βέβαια στην ταινία δεν υπάρχουν, μιας και όλα τα συναισθήματα και οι σκέψεις των χαρακτήρων διαφαίνονται από τις πράξεις τους και τους μεταξύ τους διαλόγους. Σε ένα βιβλίο ο συγγραφέας μπορεί να το κάνει αυτό, με τους εσωτερικούς μονολόγους και τις εσωτερικές σκέψεις των χαρακτήρων του, στις ταινίες όμως τα πράγματα είναι αλλιώς. Όπως και να 'χει, μου άρεσε πολύ το βιβλίο, το βρήκα εξαιρετικά καλογραμμένο και ευκολοδιάβαστο, αν και δεν ξέρω κατά πόσο θα μου άρεσε το ίδιο αν κατά τη διάρκεια της ανάγνωσής του δεν είχα ήδη στο μυαλό μου τις σκηνές της ταινίας και τις φάτσες αυτών των δυο πολύ καλών ηθοποιών. Σίγουρα αξίζει μια ανάγνωση και σίγουρα και η ταινία αξίζει μια θέαση....more
Το βιβλίο αυτό το είχα προσέξει όταν είχε κυκλοφορήσει στα ελληνικά πριν περίπου πέντε χρόνια, μιας και πρόκειται για ένα κλασικό έργο της ΑιγυπτιακήςΤο βιβλίο αυτό το είχα προσέξει όταν είχε κυκλοφορήσει στα ελληνικά πριν περίπου πέντε χρόνια, μιας και πρόκειται για ένα κλασικό έργο της Αιγυπτιακής λογοτεχνίας, όμως τελικά το αγόρασα μόλις πρόσφατα, πριν λίγες εβδομάδες, βρίσκοντάς το σε μεγάλη προσφορά. Λοιπόν, πολύ ενδιαφέρον μυθιστόρημα, εξαιρετικά καλογραμμένο και οξυδερκές, μας δίνεται η ευκαιρία να πάρουμε λίγο μάτι από την κοινωνία της Αιγύπτου της δεκαετίας του '30, με τα ήθη, τις συνήθειες, τις δυσκολίες και όλα αυτά. Κάτι τέτοια βιβλία μου αρέσουν σε μεγάλο βαθμό, γιατί ανοίγουν νέα παράθυρα στον κόσμο και αναδεικνύουν διαφορετικούς τρόπους ζωής και θεώρησης των πραγμάτων. Η ιστορία είναι μάλλον απλή και σίγουρα σύντομη, όμως ο συγγραφέας καταφέρνει να πει αυτά που θέλει να πει, χωρίς φτιασίδια και περιττές λεπτομέρειες. Και το ακόμα πιο ενδιαφέρον είναι ότι ο συγγραφέας ήταν ένας άνθρωπος που στα δυο του χρόνια έχασε την όρασή του, που γεννήθηκε σε ένα χωριό και προερχόταν από μια φτωχή οικογένεια, αλλά παρ' όλα αυτά κατάφερε να σπουδάσει στο Κάιρο και τη Σορβόνη, να μεταφράσει Πλάτωνα στα αραβικά και να γίνει υπουργός παιδείας της Αιγύπτου στην κυβέρνηση Νάσερ, κάνοντας σημαντικές μεταρρυθμίσεις στην εκπαίδευση, όπως για παράδειγμα την καθιέρωση της στοιχειώδους εκπαίδευσης για τα κορίτσια. Σίγουρα πολύ ενδιαφέρουσα περίπτωση συγγραφέα αλλά και γενικά ανθρώπου, χάρηκα που διάβασα ένα βιβλίο του....more
Άλλο ένα κλασικό μυθιστόρημα της Αφροαμερικάνικης λογοτεχνίας που κυκλοφορεί στα ελληνικά τα τελευταία χρόνια, από τα γνωστότερα λογοτεχνικά κείμενα τΆλλο ένα κλασικό μυθιστόρημα της Αφροαμερικάνικης λογοτεχνίας που κυκλοφορεί στα ελληνικά τα τελευταία χρόνια, από τα γνωστότερα λογοτεχνικά κείμενα της λεγόμενης Αναγέννησης του Χάρλεμ. Η συγγραφέας θίγει κάποια ζητήματα σχετικά με τη φυλή, τον ρατσισμό, τη γυναικεία απελευθέρωση και σεξουαλικότητα με ιδιαίτερο τρόπο, καταφέρνοντας να δώσει λίγη τροφή για σκέψη. Το λεγόμενο "πέρασμα" δεν είναι τίποτε άλλο παρά η φυλετική μετάβαση ορισμένων ανοιχτόχρωμων μαύρων γυναικών (αλλά προφανώς και ανδρών) για να περάσουν για λευκές, ώστε να αποφύγουν τις συνέπειες του ρατσισμού (ειδικά εκείνα τα δύσκολα χρόνια) και να ανελιχθούν κοινωνικά, έστω κι αν κατά βάθος μισούσαν αυτό που υποχρεώνονταν να κάνουν. Η πρωταγωνίστρια της ιστορίας, Αϊρίν Ρέντφιλντ, το έκανε αυτό σε καταστήματα, ξενοδοχεία, εστιατόρια κ.λπ., αλλά στην προσωπική της ζωή επέλεξε να παντρευτεί έναν μαύρο γιατρό και να ζήσει στο Χάρλεμ. Όχι όμως και μια παιδική της φίλη, που έκανε κανονικό πέρασμα, έχοντας παντρευτεί έναν πλούσιο λευκό ρατσιστή, που αγνοεί την πραγματική της ταυτότητα. Η τυχαία συνάντηση των δυο γυναικών, δέκα χρόνια μετά την τελευταία τους επαφή, θα αποδειχθεί μοιραία και για τις δυο και θα τις σφραγίσει ανεξίτηλα... Δεν είναι ένα βιβλίο που το διαβάζεις για να περάσει ευχάριστα η ώρα, έχει πολλά πράγματα να πει και να δείξει, αλλά σίγουρα είναι ένα βιβλίο που αξίζει να διαβάσει κανείς, τόσο γι' αυτά που θίγει, όσο και για τον πολύ ωραίο και οξυδερκή τρόπο γραφής. Ιδιόρρυθμο βιβλίο, κάποια κομμάτια του μου άρεσαν και κάποια άλλα όχι και τόσο, η αλήθεια είναι ότι στο τέλος με άφησε λίγο διχασμένο. Από τη μια η όλη ιστορία δεν μου είπε και πολλά πράγματα, ούτε και οι αρκετά "καμένοι" χαρακτήρες που δεν είχαν κάποιο ιδιαίτερο βάθος (αλλά είχαν ένα κάποιο ενδιαφέρον λόγω της φύσης τους), από την άλλη βρήκα την παρακμιακή ατμόσφαιρα αρκούντως γοητευτική, όπως επίσης και τα σκηνικά της όλης υποκουλτούρας και της Νέα Υόρκης του περιθωρίου. Η γραφή κοφτερή, άμεση, χωρίς πολλά φτιασίδια, μπορώ να πω ότι μου άρεσε σε γενικές γραμμές, χωρίς όμως να με εντυπωσιάσει. Ένα βιβλίο όχι και τόσο του γούστου μου τελικά, αλλά πάντως δεν νιώθω ότι έχασα τον χρόνο μου διαβάζοντάς το. Για μια φορά, καλό. Αλλά μέχρι εκεί....more
Επιτέλους, δεκατέσσερα χρόνια μετά την αγορά της έκδοσης ΒΙΠΕΡ του κλασικού αυτού μυθιστορήματος, το πιάνω στα χέρια μου για να το διαβάσω. Πρώτη επαφΕπιτέλους, δεκατέσσερα χρόνια μετά την αγορά της έκδοσης ΒΙΠΕΡ του κλασικού αυτού μυθιστορήματος, το πιάνω στα χέρια μου για να το διαβάσω. Πρώτη επαφή με το έργο του Σολζενίτσιν και έμεινα με το στόμα ανοιχτό: Ο Σολζενίτσιν μεταφέρει σε αυτό το βιβλίο την προσωπική του εμπειρία από τα σταλινικά γκούλαγκ, μέσω του κεντρικού χαρακτήρα, που δεν είναι άλλος από τον Ιβάν Ντενίσοβιτς Σούχοφ, που προσπαθεί να επιζήσει αλλά συνάμα να κρατήσει την ανθρώπινη αξιοπρέπειά του και την εσωτερική του ελευθερία στις δύσκολες, στις απάνθρωπες συνθήκες του στρατοπέδου καταναγκαστικών έργων. Ο Σολζενίτσιν με σχετικά απλό και λιτό τρόπο, με ρεαλιστικές περιγραφές και χωρίς φιοριτούρες και άχρηστα στολίδια στη γραφή, μας μεταφέρει σε ένα γκούλαγκ της Σιβηρίας και μας κάνει μάρτυρες των απάνθρωπων συνθηκών αλλά και των προσπαθειών των φυλακισμένων να επιζήσουν και να μην σαλτάρουν από την τρέλα και την παράνοια. Πλοκή δεν υπάρχει, μην περιμένετε ίντριγκες, φόνους, μυστήριο, έρωτες, τέτοια πράγματα. Είναι οι ανελέητες περιγραφές της μίζερης καθημερινότητας ενός εγκλείστου σε γκούλαγκ. Όμως είναι ένα βιβλίο που έμμεσα και άμεσα μιλάει για την ελευθερία, για την ανθρώπινη αξιοπρέπεια, για τη ζωή, για τον καθημερινό αγώνα. Πολύ μου άρεσε το βιβλίο, άνετα πέντε αστεράκια από μένα, αλλά όχι, δεν πέρασα καλά διαβάζοντάς το. Πώς θα μπορούσα;...more
Δεύτερο βιβλίο του Οσβάλντο Σοριάνο που διαβάζω, μετά το συμπαθητικό αλλά και ολίγον τι προβληματικό ""Ποτέ πια βάσανα και λησμονιά", εκδόσεις Θεωρία.
Δεύτερο βιβλίο του Οσβάλντο Σοριάνο που διαβάζω, μετά το συμπαθητικό αλλά και ολίγον τι προβληματικό "Θλιμμένος, τελευταίος και μόνος" που διάβασα τον Απρίλιο του 2020, και μπορώ να πω ότι αυτό το βιβλίο μου άρεσε σαφώς περισσότερο. Ο Σοριάνο θίγει με δεικτικό τρόπο, κατάμαυρο χιούμορ και ανελέητη σάτιρα την πολιτική κατάσταση της Αργεντινής της δεκαετίας του '70 και την όλη παράνοια κατά τη διάρκεια του λεγόμενου Βρώμικου Πολέμου. Είναι μια μικρή νουβέλα με πολλή τρέλα και βία, με καυστικούς διαλόγους και λιτές περιγραφές, που διαβάζεται σε μια καθισιά και καταφέρνει να μεταφέρει το κλίμα της εποχής. Πολύ μου άρεσε μέσα στην τρέλα του, αν και φυσικά το όλο θέμα που άγγιξε ο συγγραφέας μόνο για γέλια δεν είναι. Ωραίο βιβλιαράκι, κρίμα που δεν κυκλοφορεί στα βιβλιοπωλεία πια....more
Πολλή μαυρίλα πλάκωσε, μαύρη σαν καλιακούδα. Πολύ σκληρό βιβλίο, που αναδεικνύει με έντονο τρόπο τη λεγόμενη "έμφυλη" βία, όπου η αδύναμη και αθώα ΛινΠολλή μαυρίλα πλάκωσε, μαύρη σαν καλιακούδα. Πολύ σκληρό βιβλίο, που αναδεικνύει με έντονο τρόπο τη λεγόμενη "έμφυλη" βία, όπου η αδύναμη και αθώα Λιν Σι υποφέρει από τη βαναυσότητα του χασάπη άντρα της (που φυσικά δεν τον παντρεύτηκε από έρωτα, αλλά της τον επέβαλλε η οικογένεια), καθώς και από τον αφόρητο κοινωνικό περίγυρο, που θα έλεγε κανείς ότι ουσιαστικά είναι σάπιος ως το μεδούλι. Μου μαύρισε ολίγον τι την ψυχή το βιβλίο, το βρήκα αφόρητα ρεαλιστικό και σε σημεία ωμό, αλλά κάποια πράγματα μόνο έτσι πρέπει να λέγονται. Φυσικά καλογραμμένο, μεταφέρει στον αναγνώστη ποικίλα συναισθήματα και εικόνες με όλες τις περιγραφές της (μαύρης) καθημερινότητας της πρωταγωνίστριας, σε μια μικρή παραθαλάσσια πόλη της Ταϊβάν, αρκετές δεκαετίες πίσω (το βιβλίο εκδόθηκε το 1983). Απόκτημα από το παζάρι βιβλίου του 2012, ήρθε επιτέλους η ώρα του να το διαβάσω, δωδεκάμισι χρόνια μετά την αγορά του. Δεν ήμουν σίγουρος ποιο βιβλίο θα ήταν το επόμενο για ανάγνωση, έπιασα αυτό στα χέρια μου, το ξεφύλλισα, διάβασα τις πρώτες παραγράφους, και μετά κόλλησα. Πολύ ωραίο βιβλιαράκι, σχετικά άγνωστο, χωρίς διαθέσιμες κριτικές στα ελληνικά για να δω τι παίζει, αποδείχτηκε ένα αξιολογότατο ανάγνωσμα, αρκετά ενδοσκοπικό, με λίγα στοιχεία θρίλερ, με ωραία ατμόσφαιρα, και πάνω απ' όλα ιδιαίτερα καλογραμμένο και με τον τρόπο του εθιστικό: Το διάβασα κυριολεκτικά μονορούφι. Αντικειμενικά, δεν εντυπωσιάζει κιόλας, αλλά έχει πολλά στοιχεία που θα ικανοποιήσουν αυτούς που θέλουν ένα χαμηλών τόνων θρίλερ με λίγη ενδοσκόπηση και λίγη υπαρξιακή αγωνία....more
Τέταρτο βιβλίο του Ζοζέφ Κεσέλ που διαβάζω και τώρα συνειδητοποιώ ότι στα αδιάβαστα έχω μονάχα ένα βιβλίο του ακόμα (το "Στο μεγάλο παζάρι"), αφού όλαΤέταρτο βιβλίο του Ζοζέφ Κεσέλ που διαβάζω και τώρα συνειδητοποιώ ότι στα αδιάβαστα έχω μονάχα ένα βιβλίο του ακόμα (το "Στο μεγάλο παζάρι"), αφού όλα κι όλα στα ελληνικά έχουν μεταφραστεί πέντε. Και είναι κρίμα, γιατί πρόκειται για έναν εξαιρετικό συγγραφέα, για έναν πολυταξιδεμένο άνθρωπο που έζησε και είδε πολλά πράγματα, τα περισσότερα εκ των οποίων τα κατέγραψε στα βιβλία του. Εδώ έχουμε να κάνουμε με ένα κοινωνικό δράμα, που διαδραματίζεται στη Μονμάρτρη του Μεσοπολέμου, με το σκοτεινό πέπλο του Β' Παγκοσμίου Πολέμου να είναι έτοιμο να καλύψει το Παρίσι και όλη την Ευρώπη. Στο μεταξύ, όμως, ο αφηγητής μας, που συνηθίζει να συναντάει το πρώτο φως της ημέρας στον Σαν-Σουσί, καταλαμβάνεται από την εμμονή να μάθει την ταυτότητα της μυστηριώδους γυναίκας, που περνάει συνεχώς μπροστά από τη βιτρίνα του μαγαζιού: Είναι η Έλσα Βίνερ, μια Γερμανίδα κυνηγημένη (;) από τις αρχές της Ναζιστικής Γερμανίας. Φοβερή ατμόσφαιρα, κάργα μελαγχολική και στους τόνους του νουάρ, σίγουρα δεν είναι ένα ευχάριστο ανάγνωσμα που θα φτιάξει το κέφι του αναγνώστη, αλλά είναι ένα βιβλίο που έχει την ικανότητα να κινητοποιήσει τον εγκέφαλο και τα συναισθήματά του, με τη γραφή να είναι φυσικά πολύ καλή και οξυδερκής. Πολύ μου άρεσε και αυτό το βιβλίο, όπως και τα προηγούμενα τρία του εν λόγω συγγραφέα που διάβασα (το "Οι καβαλάρηδες" ήταν το απόλυτο δεκάρι για μένα και ένα από τα καλύτερα βιβλία που έχω διαβάσει στη ζωή μου). Μακάρι να βλέπαμε και άλλα βιβλία του Κεσέλ στα ελληνικά, όπως π.χ. το "L'Armée des ombres" που έγινε ταινία το 1969 από τον φοβερό Ζαν-Πιερ Μελβίλ ή το "Les Mains du miracle", που είναι η βιογραφία του προσωπικού φυσιοθεραπευτή του Χάινριχ Χίμλερ, Φέλιξ Κέρστεν, ο οποίος έσωσε χιλιάδες Εβραίους κατά τη διάρκεια του Ολοκαυτώματος. Αν μη τι άλλο, ο Κεσέλ ήταν ένας συγγραφέας με μεγάλη γκάμα και ποιότητα στα έργα του.
Υ.Γ. Στο βιβλίο αυτό βασίζεται και η ομώνυμη ταινία του 1982, με πρωταγωνίστρια τη Ρόμι Σνάιντερ. Μάλιστα, αυτός ήταν ο τελευταίος της ρόλος, μιας και την ίδια χρονιά αυτοκτόνησε με τη χρήση υπερβολικής δόσης βαρβιτουρικών σε συνδυασμό με αλκοόλ, αφού δεν άντεξε τον χαμό του γιου της σε ένα τραγικό ατύχημα, έναν χρόνο πριν....more
Το συγκεκριμένο βιβλίο μου κίνησε το ενδιαφέρον με το που κυκλοφόρησε στα ελληνικά από τις εκδόσεις Στερέωμα τον Νοέμβριο του 2022, αλλά δεν το αγόρασΤο συγκεκριμένο βιβλίο μου κίνησε το ενδιαφέρον με το που κυκλοφόρησε στα ελληνικά από τις εκδόσεις Στερέωμα τον Νοέμβριο του 2022, αλλά δεν το αγόρασα άμεσα, γιατί η τιμή μου φάνηκε κομματάκι τσιμπημένη για το μέγεθός του. Όμως με το που το πέτυχα σε καλύτερη τιμή πριν λίγο καιρό, δεν το σκέφτηκα στιγμή, το αγόρασα και τώρα το διάβασα κιόλας. Πολύ δυνατό βιβλίο, αφόρητα ρεαλιστικό και αληθινό, κατά κάποιο τρόπο σκληρό, αν μη τι άλλο ο συγγραφέας ασχολείται με το σοβαρότατο και το δυστυχώς πάντα επίκαιρο θέμα του ρατσισμού με μοναδική οξυδέρκεια, χωρίς να χαρίζεται πουθενά και χωρίς να κάνει επίκληση στο συναίσθημα. Λέει τα πράγματα με το όνομά τους. Και μάλιστα δεν κώλωσε να θίξει και το πολύ σοβαρό Αλγερινό ζήτημα, που τη δεκαετία του '60 ταλάνιζε Γάλλους και Αλγερινούς, με αποτέλεσμα να απαγορευτεί για κάποια χρόνια η κυκλοφορία του βιβλίου στη Γαλλία. Πρόκειται για ένα σχετικά άγνωστο διαμάντι της αφροαμερικάνικης λογοτεχνίας, που έχει πολλά πράγματα να πει και στους σημερινούς αναγνώστες, και ας είναι ένα βιβλίο εξήντα χρόνων....more
Τον Σεπτέμβριο του 2016 είχα διαβάσει το μικρό βιβλιαράκι "Το βάρος της πεταλούδας", που με βάση το σχόλιο που είχα γράψει τότε, βλέπω ότι μου άρεσε, Τον Σεπτέμβριο του 2016 είχα διαβάσει το μικρό βιβλιαράκι "Το βάρος της πεταλούδας", που με βάση το σχόλιο που είχα γράψει τότε, βλέπω ότι μου άρεσε, ότι μου είχε κάνει μια κάποια εντύπωση. Τώρα το "Τρία άλογα" δεν μπορώ να πω ότι με ξετρέλανε, αν και αναμφίβολα κάτι στο όλο στιλ μου είχε το ενδιαφέρον του. Απλά όμως η ιστορία δεν μου είπε τίποτα, μου φάνηκε ισχνή και όχι ιδιαίτερα αξιομνημόνευτη, αμφιβάλλω πολύ ότι θα θυμάμαι και πολλά πράγματα από το βιβλίο μετά από κάποιες μέρες. Δεν μπορώ να παραβλέψω φυσικά κάποια ποιότητα και ιδιαιτερότητα στο στιλ γραφής και την όλη αίσθηση που (μπορεί να) δημιουργεί στον αναγνώστη με τις εικόνες και τις σκέψεις, από την άλλη όμως δεν μου "μίλησε", δεν με εντυπωσίασε. Τρίτο βιβλίο του Φαζαρντί που διαβάζω, μετά το συμπαθητικό "Φονιάδες μπάτσων" και το πολύ καλό "Η νύχτα των παπουτσωμένων γάτων", και μπορώ να πω ότι Τρίτο βιβλίο του Φαζαρντί που διαβάζω, μετά το συμπαθητικό "Φονιάδες μπάτσων" και το πολύ καλό "Η νύχτα των παπουτσωμένων γάτων", και μπορώ να πω ότι ήταν και αυτό ένα πολύ καλό και ιδιαίτερο ανάγνωσμα. Λιτή, άμεση, επιθετική και σε σημεία τρυφερή γραφή, χωρίς φιοριτούρες και άχρηστες λεπτομέρειες ο συγγραφέας αγγίζει με μοναδικό τρόπο τον Μάη του '68 στο φλεγόμενο Παρίσι, με τον ήρωα του βιβλίου να επιστρέφει στην πόλη μετά από είκοσι χρόνια αυτοεξορίας, αφού έζησε ένα σωρό περιπέτειες και μπλέχτηκε σε διάφορες ιστορίες. Είναι ένα αρκετά έντονο πολιτικό μυθιστόρημα, που όμως δεν του λείπει το συναίσθημα και ο ρομαντισμός. Ναι, πολύ μου άρεσε, έτσι λιτό και απέριττο όπως ήταν, σκληρό σε ορισμένα σημεία και πιο τρυφερό σε άλλα, και πάντα καλογραμμένο....more

Και οι εκδόσεις Αίολος έκαναν την ευχάριστη έκπληξη και το έφεραν και στην Ελλάδα: Λοιπόν, πρόκειται για ένα πολύ ωραίο βιβλίο, ευχάριστο αλλά συνάμα λιγάκι μελαγχολικό και κάργα νοσταλγικό, που με έκανε να νιώσω καλά κατά τη διάρκεια της ανάγνωσής του. Πολύ ωραίες περιγραφές της φύσης, των τοπίων και των διαφόρων στιγμών της καθημερινότητας της εξάχρονης Σοφίας και της γιαγιάς της, που περνούν μαζί τις καλοκαιρινές διακοπές σε ένα νησάκι στον κόλπο της Φιλανδίας. Δεν είναι ακριβώς μυθιστόρημα με πλοκή, παρά μια τρόπον τινά συλλογή βινιετών με διάφορα περιστατικά και διάφορες σκηνές, που βέβαια συνδέονται μεταξύ τους. Είναι, με λίγα λόγια, ένα πνευματώδες και ευχάριστο καλοκαιρινό ανάγνωσμα που σε μεταφέρει στον χρόνο και τον χώρο....more
Πρόκειται για μια πολύ καλογραμμένη και ενδιαφέρουσα νουβέλα, που μου έφερε λίγο στο μυαλό τον Καμύ, όσον αφορά την αφήγηση και τη θεματολογία, χωρίς Πρόκειται για μια πολύ καλογραμμένη και ενδιαφέρουσα νουβέλα, που μου έφερε λίγο στο μυαλό τον Καμύ, όσον αφορά την αφήγηση και τη θεματολογία, χωρίς βέβαια να πιάνει τα δυσθεώρητα ύψη του εν λόγω συγγραφέα. Η αφήγηση είναι σε πρώτο πρόσωπο, με τον "μάρτυρα" να συντρίβεται από το βάρος της ίδιας του της ατολμίας, του αιωνίως άπραγου θεατή. Όχι και η πιο ευχάριστη ανάγνωση για τώρα το καλοκαίρι, αλλά τέτοιου είδους βιβλία έχουν κάποια πράγματα να πουν και πρέπει να διαβάζονται, ανεξαρτήτως... καιρικών συνθηκών. Πρόσημο θετικό....more
Πέρυσι τον Αύγουστο ήρθα για πρώτη φορά σε επαφή με το έργο του Τζον Ντος Πάσος, διαβάζοντας το καταπληκτικό "Manhattan Transfer", που μου άφησε τις κΠέρυσι τον Αύγουστο ήρθα για πρώτη φορά σε επαφή με το έργο του Τζον Ντος Πάσος, διαβάζοντας το καταπληκτικό "Manhattan Transfer", που μου άφησε τις καλύτερες εντυπώσεις όσον αφορά τη γραφή, τη δομή της αφήγησης, την ίδια την ιστορία και την όλη ατμόσφαιρα. Ε, το ίδιο μπορώ να πω ότι συνέβη και με τούτο το βιβλίο, το οποίο κυκλοφόρησε φέτος για πρώτη φορά στα ελληνικά, από τις εκδόσεις Ηριδανός. Υποτίθεται ότι τα περισσότερα ή πολλά απ' όσα περιγράφονται και διαδραματίζονται στο βιβλίο αυτό, αποτελούν προσωπικές εμπειρίες του Τζον Ντος Πάσος τόσο στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες όσο και στον Ισπανικό Εμφύλιο, όντας ένας έντονα πολιτικοποιημένος Αριστερός (αν και μετά απ' όσα είδε και έζησε, το άλλαξε και έγινε πιο συντηρητικός). Είναι ένα αρκετά πολιτικοποιημένο μυθιστόρημα που όμως καταφέρνει να είναι ισορροπημένο στην κριτική του και την απομυθοποίηση ορισμένων εννοιών και αξιών πολιτικής χροιάς, με πολύ καλή σκιαγράφηση του βασικού χαρακτήρα, ιδιαίτερο ρεαλισμό στις περιγραφές, τους διαλόγους και τις σκέψεις των χαρακτήρων, και με τέλεια ατμόσφαιρα. Ο συγγραφέας με την υπέροχη γραφή του κατάφερε να με μεταφέρει στην εποχή του βιβλίου, να με φέρει σε επαφή με την κοινωνική, οικονομική και πολιτική πραγματικότητα εκείνων των ταραγμένων χρόνων (δεκαετία του '30) και να αναδείξει τα διλήμματα, τους αγώνες, τα αδιέξοδα και όλα αυτά που αντιμετώπιζαν οι άνθρωποι που ήταν "μέσα στα πράγματα", που είχαν διάφορες ανησυχίες ιδεολογικής φύσεως. Επίσης, αφηγηματικά είναι πιο στρωτό και πιο απλό σε σχέση με το "Manhattan Transfer", όπου ο συγγραφέας χρησιμοποιούσε ένα κολάζ αφηγήσεων πηγαίνοντας μπρος-πίσω στον χρόνο και από τον έναν χαρακτήρα στον άλλο. Γενικά, είναι ένα βιβλίο που μου άρεσε πολύ, που με κράτησε δέσμιό του, και που σε διάφορα σημεία κατάφερε να με καθηλώσει κιόλας. Πέρυσι τον Ιανουάριο διάβασα το ογκωδέστατο "Βαλκανική Τριλογία", με το οποίο είχα ξεκινήσει την αναγνωστική μου χρονιά. Ένα εξαιρετικό βιβλίο (ή μάλλον τρία βιβλία σε ένα) που μου κράτησε την καλύτερη παρέα για κάμποσες μέρες. Το ίδιο συνέβη και με το "Σχολείο για την αγάπη", που επίσης μου άρεσε πάρα, μα πάρα πολύ. Ίσως να άργησε λιγάκι να με κερδίσει, ίσως να χρειάστηκαν κάποιες σελίδες μέχρι να μπω πραγματικά στο κλίμα της ιστορίας και να δεθώ με τους χαρακτήρες, αλλά μόλις έγινε αυτό, δεν ήθελα να τελειώσει με τίποτα. Η πλοκή είναι απλή, δεν έχει κάτι το φοβερό και το τρομερό, όμως η μαγεία του βιβλίου κρύβεται στις λεπτομέρειες, είναι στη σκιαγράφηση των χαρακτήρων (αυτή η μις Μπουν!), στην όλη αποτύπωση της εποχής και του τόπου (Ιερουσαλήμ, 1945), στη γενικότερη ατμόσφαιρα της ιστορίας, που είναι πραγματικά υπέροχη. Είναι ένα βιβλίο που διαβάζεται αργά και χαλαρά, μιας και οι ρυθμοί δεν είναι ιδιαίτερα έντονοι, με τη γραφή να είναι πολύ ωραία, ευκολοδιάβαστη και οξυδερκής, με τη συγγραφέα να καταφέρνει με τις περιγραφές της να δημιουργεί εικόνες και συναισθήματα. Ναι, πολύ μου άρεσε, αν και δεν πιστεύω ότι είναι για όλα τα γούστα....more

Πρόκειται για μια πολύ καλογραμμένη, λίγο τρελούτσικη και με παιγνιώδη διάθεση ερωτική ιστορία, αν και σε διάφορα σημεία διακρίνεται το ζοφερό κλίμα της μεσοπολεμικής περιόδου. Μου άρεσε πολύ η γραφή, η όλη ατμόσφαιρα, τα διάφορα σκηνικά της εξοχής, το όλο κλίμα των (υποτίθεται) ανέμελων διακοπών των νεαρών πρωταγωνιστών στη Σουηδία του Μεσοπολέμου... Γενικά, νιώθω ότι διάβασα μια πολύ ωραία ιστορία, κλασική στο είδος της, που αποδίδει εξαιρετικά το κλίμα και την ατμόσφαιρα της εποχής της. Στο διήγημα "Ράινσμπεργκ", ένα νεαρό ανύμφευτο ζευγάρι κάνει ολιγοήμερες διακοπές στην εξοχή, όπου οι δυο τους απολαμβάνουν το τοπίο, κάνουν βαρκάδα στη λίμνη, διανυκτερεύουν σε ένα ξενοδοχείο, παιδιαρίζουν και λίγο, και όλα αυτά πριν το χάος, πριν τον Α' Παγκόσμιο Πόλεμο, όπου τα πράγματα για πολλούς ήταν κάπως πιο ανέμελα. Καλογραμμένη και ιδιαίτερη ιστορία, αλλά τη βρήκα αρκετά σύντομη και επιφανειακή για να ενδιαφερθώ πραγματικά για τους χαρακτήρες και το ταξίδι τους. Καλή ήταν δηλαδή, αλλά μέχρι εκεί....more

Και τόσα χρόνια μετά, αποφάσισα επιτέλους να το διαβάσΣύμφωνα με τα κιτάπια μου, τούτο το βιβλίο το αγόρασα με ένα μόλις ευρώ, τον Νοέμβριο του 2010. Και τόσα χρόνια μετά, αποφάσισα επιτέλους να το διαβάσω, γιατί αυτές τις μέρες έχω διάθεση για διηγήματα και μικρές ιστορίες. Λοιπόν, πρόκειται για μια φοβερά διασκεδαστική συλλογή μικρών και πολλών διηγημάτων, με τα οποία ο Μρόζεκ σατιρίζει τη ζωή στην Πολωνία υπό καθεστώς ολοκληρωτισμού και αυταρχισμού. Σουρεαλιστικά διηγήματα, γεμάτα παράλογες και παράξενες καταστάσεις, με υπέροχο, διαβρωτικό χιούμορ, που φέρνει αβίαστα γέλιο αλλά συνάμα σε βάζει σε διάφορες σκέψεις για την παράνοια και την τρέλα των ολοκληρωτικών καθεστώτων. Πολύ ωραίο υλικό, ό,τι πρέπει για μια ευχάριστη και γρήγορη ανάγνωση, που δίνει και λίγη τροφή για σκέψη....more
Πέμπτο βιβλίο του Ρόαλντ Νταλ που διαβάζω, ήταν και αυτό με τη σειρά του άκρως απολαυστικό, ψυχαγωγικό και καλογραμμένο. Πρόκειται για μια συλλογή διαΠέμπτο βιβλίο του Ρόαλντ Νταλ που διαβάζω, ήταν και αυτό με τη σειρά του άκρως απολαυστικό, ψυχαγωγικό και καλογραμμένο. Πρόκειται για μια συλλογή διαφόρων ιστοριών, με ή χωρίς στοιχεία φαντασίας, βασικό προσόν των οποίων είναι φυσικά η γραφή και η υπέροχη αίσθηση χιούμορ του συγγραφέα. Εννοείται, ότι η ιστορία που ξεχωρίζει και λόγο μεγέθους αλλά κυρίως λόγω ποιότητας και βάθους σε πλοκή και χαρακτήρες, είναι αυτή που δίνει και τον τίτλο στο βιβλίο: "Η υπέροχη ιστορία του Χένρι Σούγκαρ". Όντως, υπέροχη ιστορία, πνευματώδης, σε σημεία αστεία αλλά και σε άλλα πιο σοβαρή, με ένα ωραίο μήνυμα στο τέλος. Όμως και άλλες ιστορίες έχουν πολύ ενδιαφέρον, προσφέρουν κάμποσα καλούδια: "Ο κύκνος", "Το αγόρι που μιλούσε με τα ζώα", "Ο θησαυρός του Μίλντενχολ" (η πιο ρεαλιστική ιστορία του Νταλ), "Ο τύπος που έκανε οτοστόπ", "Κατά τύχη - Πώς έγινα συγγραφέας" (εξαιρετική κατά τη γνώμη μου)... Ωραίο, πολύ ωραίο υλικό, με ποικιλία σε ιδέες, εικόνες και συναισθήματα. Ωραία πέρασα όσο κράτησε, για λεπτομέρειες δεν τσιμπάει πέμπτο αστεράκι....more
