This is even worse than fifty shades. It feels like reading a very boring diary of a stupid teenage girl who has no brains or even if she has doesn't know how to use. That's how poorly written this is.
And now I came to know there are 4/5 books in this god awful series and three movies already released. OMG, who reads this kind of stuff. There is much much better reading material out there if you want to read erotica. Please do not read and rate this....more
I said in a previous review ( excuse my memory I already forgot which book it was) that even though I didn't want to finish it, I kept reading it cuz I said in a previous review ( excuse my memory I already forgot which book it was) that even though I didn't want to finish it, I kept reading it cuz I wasn't a quitter.
Frankly that held true in all cases until I came across Eat, Pray, Love. And the three words which I hate the most when it comes to books popped up DNF - did not finish. Not for me. The first book I have ever DNFed coz it was just so boring and pretentious.
Yes I get how it feels to have heart broken but then again haven't we all gone through it atleast once?? And hello you are staying in a country where divorce happens often and isn't social stigma. For once, come here in India and see what faces people make when you even utter divorce and you will understand the difference. But that's not the point anyways. I'm not trying belittle her feelings but hey this is all part of life but Gilbert thinks or she sounds like she alone has gone through it. Like what she suffered was so excruciating that It broke her and I just couldn't see it.
She was kind of a woman who could shrug her responsibilities and go explore the world. I'm sorry but not many among us has that kind of privilege. We have bills to pay, work to get done. Although a part of me wishes that I could do what Gilbert did, I would never be able to do it even if I had that kind of money, coz hello sense of responsibility.
She was able to take off leaving everything behind and she expects everyone to do the same. It is perfect example of entitlement and privilege. Well not everyone is born like that.
This was supposed to enlighten but it was rather entitled. Life isn't all flowers and chocolates. So get over it already. Deal it like real people.
I rolled my eyes so much while reading the book that I was worried if I rolled my eyes again even once, my iris would refuse to come back to their original position. Forever. The thought scared the shit out of me so I chose to DNF it. My first DNF. And oh that hurt so badly I can't even tell you how I felt. But I will save my eyes and my mind to read some good stuff.
Edit : I got a comment on the review saying that I sounded angry for not being privileged. Privileged doesn't mean that it is okay to shrug off responsibility. To be frank, it was not anger, never anger for Gilbert, it is more of disappointment and annoyance. I wrote something like a part of me I wish I could, but I can't, doesn't really mean my circumstances won't allow me, it is "me" who wouldn't do it. Running away from problems isn't me. Facing them n dealing with them is. ...more
Lady Susan is short novel written by Jane Austen, although it's less known it had the potential to be a great read if it wasn't written in haste.
AlthoLady Susan is short novel written by Jane Austen, although it's less known it had the potential to be a great read if it wasn't written in haste.
Although in tone and prose it's similar to Jane's other works, the major difference here is that Lady Susan the protagonist, is a widow without an ounce of morality in her while other heroines of Austen are morality incarnate mostly.
She is a selfish, unscrupulous & scheming woman, highly attractive to men, who is perfectly unashamed of her relationship with a married man.
She subverts all the standards of the romantic novel: she has an active role, she is not only beautiful but intelligent and witty, and her suitors are significantly younger than she is. She treats her daughter— Frederica indifferently and tries to force marriage on her.
The characters are comparable to Jane's characters Lady Susan reminded me of Mary Crawford who herself was witty coquettish. Frederica reminded me of Fanny price, naive and sufferer at the hands of others.
I won't go much into storyline, but I would like to mention the ending includes a traditional reward for morality, Lady Susan herself is treated more leniently than the adulteress, Maria Bertram, in Mansfield Park, who is severely punished.
I will give this 3.5 stars as I loved the whole story but characters are not well developed.
I came to know about Lady Susan when I saw 2016 movie- Love And Friendship starring Kate Beckinsale and admired her whole heartedly. I grabbed the book and devoured it in one sitting that's how enamoured I was.
There's no swoony hero in this one ( oh you guys know what those humble men in cravats do for us, right?) but Lady Susan doesn't need one as she is surprisingly quite handful...more
If you have read the hating game and loved it, stop yourself from reading this review coz you are not going to like what I have to say about it. Also If you have read the hating game and loved it, stop yourself from reading this review coz you are not going to like what I have to say about it. Also if you haven't read, spoiler alerts.
First thing first, I'm big sucker of romance novels, they are my go to reads when I'm in reading slump or feeling low. I picked up the hating game coz I saw all the glowing reviews and 5 star ratings.
Well, I can not say I didn't enjoy it but this book has so many flaws that I can not and will not praise it.
Flaw 1 . The book starts with two main characters Lucy and Joshua who hate each other, apparantly coz Lucy gave him her big flashy smile and he didn't revert back. Who does that? You are grown ups— professionals, not kindergarten kids. Oh, just grow up already. They don't seem to work at all, whole time there's this staring game or some stupid game they keep on playing. To be frank, I don't think that's how feud at work place goes on. It seemed very childish and silly. Also, just coz the title had game in the name, you can not mention game every few pages, it is irritating & superfluous.
Flaw 2. "I wish I could say he’s ugly. He should be a short, fat troll, with a cleft palate and watery eyes. A limping hunchback. Warts and zits. Yellow-cheese teeth and onion sweat. But he’s not. He’s pretty much the opposite. More proof there’s no justice in this world." Lucy's these lines made me so angry. It's really demeaning. Ain't those with hunchback or cleft palate human beings? Don't they deserve any kind of love or respect? After these lines, I wanted to stop reading but still I kept on reading coz I rarely DNF.
Flaw 3. We the readers are told about Lucy being 5 feet hundreds or thousands of time. Okay we get it, what's the big deal really? So I think Sally Thorne really has to stop highlighting physical flaws of people. Coz face and body isn't everything. It's just so wrong to even convey that message.
Flaw 4. Sally's obsession doesn't just stop there, she keeps mentioning how tall Josh is over and over again. How handsome and how God like. I don't like when authors think we need reminding about the characters. We read you know and that too with much attention to detail coz reading is part of our life and we ain't dumb.
Flaw 5. After some game playing, Lucy gets seriously sick and that was the part where I couldn't stop my eyerolling. When authors write about some ailments, they need to know atleast basic things. We have everything handy now, just "Google" for God's sake. Don't just make up anything coz your story needs a bit of drama. A person with food poisoning or whatever Sally has tried to give Lucy, doesn't make her or any healthy person for that matter that delirious that fast. No not even with vomiting or loose motions, it takes time for a healthy person to get that bad. Do some research please.
Flaw 6. After that particular night and few nights after, Lucy basically tries to force herself on Josh asking him to spend night with her and get it done with. Imagine a man doing that to a woman, following her round the clock , telling her how hot she looks or how he would love to have her in his bedroom.... ughhhhhh cringy much??? It irked me. Lucy seems very confidant at one point while the very next she doubts herself coz of her height or looks. I'm really confused what actually Lucy feels about herself? Why to show her doubting herself coz well Josh is handsome and quite tall? Didn't see the point.
Flaw 7. Being nice is bad??? This bad boy trope isn't something I can digest. I wouldn't have liked to date a guy who is insulting me at every step or being rude to me. Who says being with a nice guy sucks or won't be fun? I married a nice person and I'm very happy, thank you very much.
Flaw 8. Playing the victim card. I'm sick of making the bad guy victim of something — like that explains his rude obnoxious behavior. Nuh... A big fat No.... Everyone has problems in their life, doesn't mean they can be assholes to people around them. But anyways so Josh has a father who constantly criticizes him. Lucy saves Josh from this overbearing father by yelling at him in front of the whole family at his brother's wedding after lunch. What an occasion to choose, making a public scene. Why can't his mother or brother stand up for him? His mother just lets her husband treat the other son whatever way he wants? Why doesn't Josh help himself out? He isn't kid anymore. Why to take all that mental abuse? And after Lucy's "big speech" snap in a moment, Josh's father realises how big of an asshole father he had been to Josh and bam, his mother suddenly realises the abuse her son has been dealing with for years and years. How Convenient!!!
Overall I would have enjoyed the story and yes their banter is funny and hilarious but I kept coming back to all these flaws and no matter I enjoyed the book or not, these problems stood out to me and I couldn't just ignore them.
There is something really very wrong with the complete ideology of being obsessed with someone's physique showing it's okay to someone to humiliate you coz they are better looking than you are. It's degrading and mortifying. There are so many books which you can enjoy better without damaging your idea of perfect guy. This one isn't one of them. Women fall in love with those who care and look after them, not with a guy who is superrude but with six pack abs and kissworthy face like that cancels all the insults....more

The reader is amazing. I loved listening to her voice.
The novel has become the classic of American literature after winning Pulitzer. Despite dealing with serious issues like rape & racial injustice, the book is praised for its warmth & humour.
“Until I feared I would lose it, I never loved to read. One does not love breathing.”
This is story of Finch family, a girl named Scout, her brother Jem & their father Atticus who is a lawyer. But wait, it's not even about Finchs, although it revolves around them. It's about sufferance & endurance. It's about taking a stand. About planting your foot deep into the ground & saying ,"Not on my watch."
It starts slow, initially without a concrete idea of where we are heading but slowly and steadily the idea becomes clear & concise as daylight.
Scout is badass. She is quirky, bold & adamant. She doesn't give a damn what other people say, she does what her heart says.
& How I loved Atticus Finch. He is the literary figure of racial heroism (Mr Hans Hubermann, after all you have got a rival & what a chivalrous competitor he is)
Atticus is quintessence of human decency, resilience, integrity & morality. He is not about physical strength. He is everything good that exists there in the world & much more but yet he feels as real a person can be.
Jem is a balance between Atticus & Scout.
Describing Atticus, Scout's own words "It was times like these when I thought my father, who hated guns and had never been to any wars, was the bravest man who ever lived."
Lee said that To Kill a Mockingbird is not an autobiography (as there were few incidents and characters which feel likely to be inspired by her real life) but rather an example of how an author "should write about what he knows and write truthfully."
I am awed by the simple but yet morally powerful message it offers. I'm in awe of the unwavering strength & decency of Atticus. Inspite of all, It doesn't feel heavy or philosophical. It is just there without much Ado. Just simply standing, head high & looking straight into your eye asking,"Can you stand against the wrong?"
I highly recommend reading this. Don't put it on your #tbrlist anymore. Grab it & start reading.

Reader's voice was really good and I enjoyed it. But at times he used to be very loud especially if you are listening with airpods. But nonetheless it was amazing book to listen to.
Now about book :
Rau feels more like a love story of Bajirao and Mastani rather than a memoir of Bajirao. I would not have really minded that but my mindset while I entered the world of Peshwe was to know more about him. Bajirao Peshwe's legacy is astounding, it is not limited to just an affair with Mastani. Hell, it wasn't even an affair.
Bajirao's first wife was Kashibai. Bajirao took a second wife, Mastani, the daughter of Rajput king Chhatrasal of Bundelkhand and Ruhani Bai Begum. The marriage was political one, arranged to please Chhatrasal. Mastani had a son, Krishna Rao, in 1734. Since his mother was Muslim, the Hindu priests refused to conduct upanayana ceremony and he became known as Shamsher Bahadur. After the deaths of Baji Rao and Mastani in 1740, Kashibai raised six-year-old Shamsher Bahadur as her own.
There were times in the book when it felt like Bajirao did not think about anything else but her. I always like a good historical book. This book gave me literary pleasure but content wise, I would have preferred to read more about the fights he fought and impact it left on Maratha Empire.
Baji Rao was known for rapid tactical movements in battle, using cavalry inherited from Maratha generals. Two examples are the Battle of Palkhed in 1728, when he outmaneuvered the Mughal governor of the Deccan, and in the battle against Mughal emperor Muhammad Shah at Delhi in 1737. His skill was in moving large numbers of cavalry at a great speed. Even British marshal Montgomery studied Rau's tactics and specifically mentioned him in his book- A Concise History Of Warfare
I do not mind twisting a few things , making up some fictional characters even to make the story interesting but it feels so wrong what this book has portrayed. Writing Mastani as a person she was not just did not feel right. But more than that reducing Peshwa Bajirao's character to mere a lover was even more disturbing and unpleasant....more

What do you think, where should we place it? In which genre exactly. Coz when I started I felt it's a YA one. The one where teenagers share their painful experiences like they suffer the most in the whole world and seriously one of the reasons why I don't like YA. But THUG isn't that.
THUG is much more than a YA book, it is state of mind. It's a strong heartfelt emotion. It is state of affairs right now. Like what's happening in the world.
It is such a simple book, yet special and its simplicity is what makes it special. There is no overdue teenage drama or unnecessary convolutions. The writing prose is smooth, subtle and light.
From the page one, it takes you on a journey that feels close to heart like you are there experiencing sentiments they are going through.
You perceive the characters as real people. Like Starr is the girl who lives in the house down the lane and you say hi to her everyday. So does Khalil & every other character in the book. They feel so real, so alive that if you try, you will be able to speak to them. you will become part of the story. Part of THUG.
So engrossing was my reading experience that I didn't want it to end. THUG doesn't delude you, it shows you ugly face of the world but not in harsh way. No fake promises. No mistaken belief.
It is poignant & disturbing & cathartic yet pleasant too. It numbs mind without being preachy or heavy.
To those who think it's okay, it's not. Not until you are the sufferer. If you feel it's not a big deal, Walk in those shoes first. Racism is real, it's ugly and no matter what, nothing will ever justify it. Racism.Is.Wrong.Period.

I was super bored with this book. I think I'm not into teenager or young adult stuff.
I listened to audiobook of this one on storytel by reader Michael crouch. The characters are forgettable, I'm not even sure who looked like what or who was who. I didn't even remember the names of the characters.
This was one of my first audiobook, I had listened to classics before but not the contemporary books. So I thought maybe I wasn't into audiobooks and that's the reason I waited to review it till now.
It wasn't about it being audiobook. The book itself is pointless and boring, characters are dull and uninteresting. The reader irritated me even more with his long stretched noooooooos and sighs.
After this, I listened to THUG- read by Bahni and I loved it. So yes it wasn't about audiobook it was all about book itself and reader being super boring.
I absolutely disliked this book. It is overly casual and has had no inspiration at all.
It's a story about a teenager Simon and it starts when another of his schoolmate blackmails him as he comes to know about his sexuality. I don't know what to tell you further about the plot as there's nothing really.
All the characters (and there are so many) are poorly developed. I mean who was Leah? Nick? Do we know how they look? How they are as human beings? I don't even remember Simon's sister's name. That is how clueless I was. N how about Simon? I don't even know how he looked like or how he was apart from yeah he was gay and he hadn't come out yet. So basically Simon was reduced to his sexuality. His relationships with his friends and his family are so plain and damn dull.
The characters are flat like the storyline and has no features whatsoever. Just because it has diversity and it's LGBTQ, it can not be good. There are so much better LGBTQ novels out there. For a book to be good, it should have a good storyline and vivid imagination. There's nothing here. It's bland. I didn't like it at all.
“Revenge is like politics, one thing always leads to another until bad has become worse, and worse has become worst.”

So one of my friends read it and he went all crazy praising it so much that I had to pick it up. It started with such a strong premise that I was sure I was going to enjoy it. I did not.
I had to push myself to finish it. It appears that writer has tried so hard to make it funny that it turned out rather stupid and boring.
It gave me some Forrest Gump vibes and I love that movie and Tom Hanks of course, biggest fan of him. It could have been a great read, alas it wasn't. It took me several months to finish it, I guess it says all....more

Well before starting the tell tale heart I went through few reviews and found out that this tale is terrifying and scary. I checked & it was just a 31 odd pages and I thought how is that even possible?? I thought it was overrated but what I didn't guess was it's completely worth its praise. In just 31 pages Edgar Allan Poe gave me shivers that ran through my spine. Brilliant book!!

Maddening, grotesque and morbid tale. Poe at his best as usual.
“Madmen know nothing. But you should have seen ME.”
The Tell-Tale Heart" is a first-person narrative told by an unnamed narrator who suffers from a disease (nervousness) which causes "over-acuteness of the senses". The old man with whom he lives has a clouded, pale, blue "vulture-like" eye, which distresses and manipulates the narrator so much that the narrator plots to murder the old man, despite also insisting that the narrator loves the old man.
One of the major themes is that of guilt. The narrator is obsessed with committing the perfect crime, but his guilt ultimately leads to his destruction. he tries to find a sane reason as for his madness that overtook him. It shows how the line between sanity and madness is so thin that even a little push can bring the cataclysm and change the delicate balance of human nature. The narrator claims he is a sane man, but he is driven to commit an evil act by his discomfort and hatred to the eye.
There is no clarity as to what their relationship with each other is which gives the story a sense of ambiguity. Poe chose to give it rather a hazy background while the act of violence is described in crisp details in contrast.
Interesting fact about the deathwatch beetles included in the story is the tapping sound they make to attract their mates sounds like a heartbeat. Also the tapping sound of the deathwatch beetle has long been associated as a harbinger of death, being most audible on quiet nights in the rafters of old houses, and in silent bedside vigils for the dying.
His overly confidant self becomes a facade as his guilt consumes him whole and he is driven into utter madness and dark side. A must read horrifying classic....more

I didn't think someone can actFinally I'm over with it. Even though I hated this series, part of me liked the banter between Mr. Billionaire and Ana.
I didn't think someone can actually get on my nerves for the whole series but Ana did. Sigh...
The most irritating character of the whole book kingdom is her. She keeps asking even dumber questions to the reader one after the other.
For example, (view spoiler)[when she sees Hyde in her apartment she is shocked but when she finds out he had duct tape and ropes some revelation stucks her. Really Ana wasn't it obvious? He wasn't there to have a little chitchat with you about your sex life or to have a tea. But wait, she doesn't stop there, the whole revelation goes inside her brains when Christian spell it out to her Hyde was there to kidnap her....holy shit that means he was here to abduct me? I felt like hitting her hard then yes you dumb ass. Why is she so slow? Is all she good at is kinky fuckery? Is that all you have got Ana? (hide spoiler)]
There's some other incident where she comes to know about affair between Gail and Taylor. Christian gives a day off to both of them and Ana asks him why? Why do you give off to two love birds ana?? Don't you even learn from your story itself? I wonder why Christian didn't spank her for asking such silly questions. But he goes with the flow, he responds by saying coz I can. Christian don't lock up your brains coz you married a brainless twit. I didn't count him as a dumb person too. But here we are. Exasperating.
Oh and I forgot one more (of course I can't stop myself when it comes to Ana's idiocy) when she finds a gun lying on the floor of her apartment she asks to her bodyguard, if it was Hyde's? N Sawyer answers yes. I wished Sawyer, Gail and Roy could just tie her up instead of Hyde and keep her mouth shut by putting a cloth inside her mouth or maybe even throw her out of Escala and say to Christian her brain exploded cuz of her idiotic questions.
But somehow she gets better when book comes near its climax and I was actually feeling yesssss finally girl, show everyone the middle finger and ask them to fuck off. Even Christian, cuz he was being ass with you. But again she says and I quote my body would betray me if he touches me. *rolls eyes* grow up Ana!! Not everything is about sex, for God's sake.
And to make it even worse when one thinks it can't get worse than this, She comments that her daughter in her belly already likes sex... OMG can James get any creepier and weirder than this? This is not sexy, this is just creepy and disturbing on so so many levels.
A gross comment to make about your unborn daughter.
So the book teaches us, there's only one solution to every problem whether you fight, your father is on his deathbed or there's an intruder in your house whatever you are suffering just leave it and have kinky sex. Yup that's all life is about. James summarised it so well.
I was so overwhelmed sometimes that I talked to my husband about the frustrating plots and dialogues from the book and he asked me why the hell are you reading it? And I questioned myself.
It is hilarious sometimes. If I hadn't read it I wouldn't know the value of all the good books out there in its true essence.
This series was fun to read and yet it was illuminating that we have so much good literature and not everything is shitty.
I feel awful to admit that a part of me actually liked a part of this book. I just skipped the sex scenes coz I was more than annoyed about both these guys making same comments about their bodies giving the same shivering reaction every single time, maybe you should get your ACs checked or see if you aren't suffering from malaria or some other kinda chills, said my Doc brain.
Anyways I'm glad to finish and God forbid I don't get temptation to pick up something this awful again. Let's just be over it !!!...more

With more sex and blabber we are back to the world of BDSM with more melodrama.
Ana is still same dumb cum naive who can go through all the tantrums of Christian and Christian is same old control freak moron. N there are more Audis, more blackberries, more iPods and iPads and not to forget one Saab too.
But for a change, Ana seems to stand up for herself and yet again her inner goddess doesn't let her. Damn you, Ana's inner goddess. Let her brain work for once atleast in her lifetime.
Every woman on the planet is so mesmerized from the charismatic Mr fifty that they can't stop looking and blushing at him and Ana can't stop feeling jealous and lucky to possess this man. Talking about Christian here of course. This fiction is literally fiction coz in real world, this doesn't happen.
Is there a draught of handsome men who are good and not like Christian, a guy with a kink?
Anyways we get to know why Christian is "Christian" and what happened in his past. It was super annoying to read on every page that they can't get enough of each other.
Lot of stuff that is even dumber than I can imagine, happens throughout the book.
Ana's reaction to everything is almost same whether Christian reveals her about his dark secrets or gets some bad news. N every time her heart is in her mouth when it happens, I wonder how it goes back to its proper place again. James have no writing skills. Same words, same thoughts.
And we have our hero and heroine back on their track which is of course more sex, more mischievous emails and impending marriage. I hope it gets better in third one coz I'm on it now !! So Yeah I don't learn from my mistakes at all....more
Normally I write the review the same day, I finish the book coz I'm too excited to wait. I have made this rule so that I can express my exact feelingsNormally I write the review the same day, I finish the book coz I'm too excited to wait. I have made this rule so that I can express my exact feelings when they are fresh and crisp but as always there is exception to every rule and this was it.
It took me whole 3 days to assemble my thoughts as they have been all over the place.
There shouldn't be any spoiler alert as everyone knows what the hype is all about!!! If you don't then maybe you shouldn't even be looking at this book or its review.
OK so here I'm trying to analyse why I gave this book two stars I would like to make some points—
1. The language is shitty awful, no literary pleasure whatsoever.
2. The main characters Anastasia and Christian are two idiots who think they are in love (I think they don't know what it is to be in love) but what's life if you don't have complications right? There's one problem here Ana is total die hard romantic & naive to the point that she haven't even got orgasm yet and of course she is virgin. Christian doesn't make love, he just fucks hard. That was my first ughhhh. The billionaire doesnt believe in love. I mean What are the odds? Typical age old cliched story, tell me something new please. This trope where heroin wants cheesy love songs and dates and the hero isn't into that but physical stuff is used so many times now.
3. When I continued reading it, it started getting on my nerves. Its annoyingly repetitive and disturbing too. I would have torn the book apart and wouldn't have regretted it (Thank God I was reading on Kindle) when Ana mentioned her inner goddess or her subconscious or words like kinky fuckery or said "oh my"one more time. How can one be so annoyingly dumb and yet liked by so many. I haven't come across any other book which is so irritatingly repetitive.
4. Somehow I liked their banter even though I felt at times that Ana was rather dumb than naive.
5. There are few characters like Kate and Grace which are beautifully described and actually you like them more than the main lead characters because they are more liberating and have brains that they actually use. But Alas, we don't get enough of them.
6. Frankly Ana doesn't seem to be much shocked by Christian's proposal because she wants him at any cost, coz she loves him so much. Well darling, that's not love but lust and That there is a reason why people get divorced.
7. Apart from sex and mails that are exchanged between Ana and Christian rest of book is all about expensive habits like exotic wines, soaring and trying to prove what an "expensive" boyfriend Christian is. Trying to lure in with money. And Ana is impressed with everything. Nobody should get married coz your partner can buy you all the things money can buy. Another reason for divorce people.
N few things like iMac,iPad, iPod or Audi are mentioned like they are something only billionaires can afford. Have you even walked around in the real world, James?
Frankly I lost my count and I don't think I can really do it anymore. Its annoying and yet I tried to finish it in a day or two coz its gripping not coz of its erotic contents but the banter they share and most importantly when I read it I didn't DNF. Oh and I'm going to read another two books coz I can't let ends go loose. So next time while picking a book from a series I'm going to think hundred times.
2 stars are enough for a day's pleasure or two and gather your senses back again....more
