Roman Morosov has been in the Russian gulag for a better part of his life. And inspite of the horror that he has seen within it, he still manages to leave out for some food, beyond the gates. in order to guarantee, some form of protection. Protection that came from childhood stories his mother told him about the Domovik, a household spirit of a given family member.
While the word has its roots in Slavic and Belarusian folklore, it is believed to be a being that cannot be killed by ordinary means. But then again, why would you want to kill a being that supposedly lives to provide you protection?

And with a Vampire now in the mix, my curiosity just got stoked even further.

The cover itself grabs you as it evokes images of Tolkien, even if the subject matter itself is far from it as it is based on Philippine folklore and mythology and yet manages to create its own lore with much promise and world-building.
This is the latest from author and artist, M.A. Del Rosario whose release upon release has managed to build up not only a solid following but also a world that is fully developed unto itself and grows with each continued release.
The Lighthouse has always been there to protect the village and to drive away the Darkness that is personified by the Storm. But what if there is another force at work to undermine the Light.
Mark's prose is profound and his imagery is amazing and evokes the epicness and scope of his work.

This alternate timeline becomes the backdrop for our two young protagonists Mal and Yari, two childhood friends who are part of a mercenary operation to investigate and nullify a new and looming threat.
I had the opportunity to interview the creator of the comic most recently in my own podcast, "Urban Fantasy PH", and listening to him talk about his own ideas from the comic and that it equally mirrors his own hope for a brighter and future Philippines, it just warmed my heart to hear that someone could put much hope out there in the Universe and let it mirror back onto their work.
But not everything is what it seems in this first installment of the comic as it teases more to come in future issues.
