I can always count on her to deliver a fun and engaging romance. However, I don't think this is her best one. There is a miscommunication trope here that doesn't play out well. Usually when miscommunication crops up, Ali is good about letting it play out naturally and giving us a good conclusion. This time, I felt a little like the ending was resolved way too fast to have anyone heal from the damage they'd done or recieved. Also, why did Lowe have to do that in the first place? It almost made me not like him anymore.
The rest of the book was highly enjoyable and on par from what I expected when I picked it up....more

A few friends on The Oasis discord have been picking at me for my love of paranormal romance as I discovered that much of it is now deemed "horror erotica". As usual, the conversation led to "book recommendations" for me and I turned the tables and decided, okay, then I'm going to read these recommendations just so they can hear me talk about the fact that I would probably enjoy it anyway.
This was the book I settled on because it had the most outlandish title and I assumed it would get some chuckles. What I didn't anticipate was an absolutely adorable story with the "alpha" trope turned on its head.
While we do get the typical alpha males in this book, what makes it such an enjoyable read is it doesn't turn the males in question to abusive jerks. I found this to be entirely refreshing.
The romance is cute and doesn't rely on insta-love as this is an established relationship with tons of history. While our lovers were separate for an extensive amount of time, they happened to find their way back to each other.
From the found family of adoption, to the adorable reuniting of a broken family, this book delivers on fluffy, smutty goodness all around....more
I have nothing bad to say about this book, other than it just wasn't for me. Never settled into the writing, world or characters, yet, nothing was 3.5
I have nothing bad to say about this book, other than it just wasn't for me. Never settled into the writing, world or characters, yet, nothing was really wrong with the book. It's well written, humorous and has a heck of a mystery at the heart of it.

Listen, these books are so slept on. I hear no one talking about them. The fact that Shaw is able to blend so many different genres flawlessly is fascinating. I love that there is a little bit of everything thrown it but it all makes sense together. The only reason it's not on a top 100 list of mine is because I have no idea how to classify it.

I have read many urban-fantasy novels over my lifetime and I have to say, this book, while not bad, just falls in the middle for me. The characters are pretty flat even though they are highly entertaining. The writing was okay but the pacing was way off. Then, the book had many places where it could have ended and didn't, making the ending of the novel drone on and on.
Bryce is sassy and smart-mouthed. This was entertaining, for the most part but really made her bratty in others. Many times I found myself wondering why the high and mighty surrounding her didn't kill her. It seemed that she should have been put in her place more often than she was. Mouthing off to Archangels with no consequences seemed odd.
Now, let's talk about Hunt, the two-hundred year old Angel who wacks off to the thought of his young charge in the shower. ...more

The accents, the text to speech parts and all of the nuances that never quite come across in reading a novel were extremely well done. I am excited to continue this series and I will be doing so via audio.
Side note: I have not read The Iron Druid series but I do plan to in the near future. ...more

The story picks up directly after the events of the original series and I am so happy with how things have developed and where Rachel is in life. All of it is cohesive with the ending of the series and with the growth the characters experienced at the end.
