It checked all the boxes from Sadie's evil step-sister's comeuppance to the twists at the end about the two guys Sadie had a crush on. Definitely an entertaining read....more

The first half of the book, where she and Dax find ways to entertain themselves in the library over the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend, was brilliant in both establishing their characters and setting up the rest of the novel. Autumn's unwillingness to share her issues with anxiety made sense and were ultimately handled well. The only thing I didn't really like was the title, which still doesn't make a lot of sense to me....more

Jake's concern for his daughter, Sam, was beautifully conveyed, and I enjoyed Sam's spunk in contacting Evie for an epilepsy support dog. The build-up to Evie's stand-off with her snooty parents was well carried off. All the complications made sense and I was ready to cheer when Jake decked the obnoxious Tyler. A fun, fast read....more

Ashley's romance with "old" bachelor Cooper was well portrayed, especially with her acute awareness of their societal differences (and his indifference to them). Lynley and John already dating when she finds the threatening ransom note moved things along quickly in "Alive After New Year." Cass and Tim as reunited high school "frenemies" (who denied their attraction due to a family feud - clearly wiser than Romeo and Juliet) made "New Year's Target" fun with their banter. My problem with these two stories being combined into one book is that all that tied them together was the time of year they took place. I like the week between Christmas and New Year's as much as anyone, but I appreciate companion novellas more if they have a bit more in common (location, characters, etc.)....more
