The action starts straight away and doesn't let up until the very end of the novel. The are multiple characters POVs, and quite a number of new characters this time around. As I've said in previous reviews, Reid writes characters exceptionally well, and this book showcases that talent. Whether it's a young boy in Yemen, a reclusive CIA agent, or a group of Navy SEALS, Reid creates characters you care about, and that is essential to any good story. He also writes complex villains, and deftly manages to play with the reader's emotions regarding honor and loyalty. The action is fun and kept me turning pages, but the characters are what makes this an exceptional thriller. When lives are in danger, you care.
Not only that, but Reid sincerely managed to surprise me a few times, and at some points had me questioning the intentions of so many characters. Page after page of intense action, fantastic character development, and a few unexpected twists makes this military thriller a great read from start to finish.

This series deserves 5 stars for the art alone, but the story is good too. This is such an interesting take on Stoker's Dracula. It's exquisite. This series deserves 5 stars for the art alone, but the story is good too. This is such an interesting take on Stoker's Dracula. It's exquisite. ...more
