My Thoughts - Story I requested this book through NetGalley without reading the first book in the series, so after I was approved for an ARC – I immediately had to purchase “Gambit” to start the story…and the whole time I was praying that I would like the story.
How excited I was when as soon as I started reading Gambit…I was hooked. I couldn’t put the book down and fell in love with Willow (well, I can’t say love cause she is a spoiled brat and ends up getting everyone in trouble). And….this didn’t stop in the second book either. She was just as bad – every time you would think she got the hint and was ready to grow up and do the right thing…she would fly off the handle and start making bad decisions.
I love the characters in this book – they all have been developed and are very easy to relate to. Commander Reece is perfect and he comes across as the silent brooding type. Just enough patience to put up with Willow – now that’s true love!
There are secrets everywhere in this book and I can’t wait to find them out in the next book in this series!

Sooo...as I was searching around for a fantasy book to read, I found the 2nd installment of this series and had to investigate the first book. Whew...what a ride that was. And...get this, there was a point in this book that I actually started tearing up...yup...that doesn't happen often to me when reading fantasy.
I loved the characters!! Each one had their own special characteristic that resonated with me!
Emilia with being an outcast and a secret Lucian with his guilt and hatred toward fighting Ajax...ah...Ajax with always getting into trouble and only having one thing on his mind Vespir with her love of dragons and servitude
Oh...and then there is Hyperia...well, you will just have to read the story to find out about her!
Am I going to read the next book in the series? I'm not sure yet - I kind of got my HEA and sometimes when I go to read the next book in a series, I end up disappointed. Only time will tell!...more

It's been such a long time since I've read one of Ms. McLean's books and now I'm questioning myself on WHY? I've forgotten how captivating her books are and Lucas didn't disappoint.
Ms. McLean is amazing with her writing capabilities and how in depth she goes with each character. I found myself experiencing all ranges of emotions...like, for some of the book, I absolutely HATED Lucas and LOVED Laney...then it did a complete turn around...
There aren't many authors that can weave such an intricate story as Ms. McLean can and for that I'm so thankful that I picked this book up to read. Plus, I can't wait to find out what the rest of the Prestons have in store for us!...more

OK...I bawled...I really bawled with this book because the one character I really fell in love with just broke my heart. I can't even explain how emotional I was while reading.
Wow...just wow! I instantly connected with this book and couldn't get enough of the characters and once I finished...I looked for the next book in the series and found this was the only one written.
Why oh why? This book was fantastic, well written, well developed and not once did I find the necessity to put it down...I read STRAIGHT through!...more

I am not going to get into what this book is about because I think each reader will probably experience something different than I did...instead I'm going to write about what I felt whole reading this masterpiece!
I called out of work today for a "mental health" day...and now I feel that I need another one after reading this book nonstop for the past few hours. Yes, it's one of those books where it grabs your attention and doesn't let go. I was totally immersed and experiencing so many different emotions...emotions that the author pulled me right into with her creative, profound writing.
I do have to write about the ending...unfortunately, I'm still scratching my head at that and really don't know how to take it...I read other reviews and I feel that I'm the only one who really didn't get a solid closure. To me, I feel that it was up to the reader to decide what happened but either way I look at it, I am satisfied. Normally when the ending is left to me to decide...I take the "happily ever after" but either I'm happy and this is a book that gets put on FAVORITE list for 2019!...more
