I have to admit that what drew me to this book in the first place and what heightened my interest was the setting. I had a long association with the hospital upon which Sharlston was based, I had a great uncle who was an inpatient there with GPI and whom I visited when I was a child; I trained there as a nurse, worked in a unit based in the old farm house; performed in the ballroom and attended the hospital's centenary in 1988. Reading the book brought back many memories of the building, the patients and the wonderful grounds....more
