Tenía muchos años que una novela no me tomaba tanto tiempo. No solo porque es un libro enorme sino porque además a mí me pareció un libro difícil de seguir. En un punto seguir leyéndolo me pareció como una tortura auto infligida. Lo acabé hace un par de días y he estado intentando pensar en qué de todos los elementos que conforman esta novela me repele y cuales aspectos me hicieron quedarme hasta el final. Subrayé momentos siniestros donde habla de violación y de una dependencia a sus compañeras pero también momentos de claridad frente a la pérdida y la soledad. Lo que más odié y genuinamente me hizo rabiar fue la descripción de todos los personajes femeninos que pone ahí. Todos personajes mutilados por su deseo o su estándar desprovistos de una vida propia, sometidos a Levrero que ama como un dictador. Por supuesto que en momentos me dio tristeza que enfrente así el desamor y el abandono, pero me dio aún más tristeza leer en esa especie de desprecio disfrazado de irracionalidad —de no poder hacer aparentemente nada por querer mujeres malagradecidas o pobres o desamparadas como si fuera una cruz— un discurso común, nada iluminado, de machismo y codependencia. Genuinamente pensé en todas nosotras que hemos querido hasta la lastima a los hombres que no deseamos o ya no deseamos y nos quedamos allí aún cuando comprobamos que no hay nada para nosotras más que abuso, insultos y una extraña condescendencia. Quiero que todas esas mujeres se liberen de Levrero. Sobre lo que me hizo quedarme pienso que tiene que ver por supuesto con que hay algo profundamente hipnótico en lo innecesario del libro. En esa renuncia a la voluntad y a la intelectualidad. Me sentí reflejada en el relato de la procrastinación y el miedo. En el dolor de dejar ir algo que amas. De observar quieto o quieta la vida que corre sin ti. En algunos pasajes me conmovió su incapacidad de salir del oscuro círculo de la autoconmiseración y el desprecio por la vida pero aún así la apuesta por mirarse a sí mismo y a veces a la tristeza con una transparencia que me dejó verme a mí, supongo. Camila lo dijo con una cara de total cinismo, de orgullo porque sabe que no podrían estar más equivocados.
En ese momento celebré esa postura segura de Camila, segura de que lo que ha escrito se defiende y se sostiene por sí mismo. Pero ahora, que termino el libro después de haberlo postergado tantas veces entiendo que su postura era la de alguien que no dice nada más que la verdad, que sabe que está del lado correcto, que tiene la razón.
Este es un libro poderoso. Es todas las cosas buenas que se han dicho sobre él. Es maravilloso desde su forma de escritura, que es tan poética e hipnótica que a veces como lectora olvidaba que era una novela, no me recordaba que estaba contando una historia cronológica, con un desarrollo y un desenlace que, como no lo esperaba casi nunca, me destrozó.
Qué maravilla de libro. Es súper difícil soltarlo. Es súper difícil hacerle entender al corazón que hay ficción en el libro, porque todos sus personajes son reales, místicos, portentosos. Tienen una dimensión maravillosa sin perfumes ni tapujos y justo hermoso y sórdido por ello.
Este libro es al mismo tiempo una lección de literatura sobre la crudeza, la belleza y lo absolutamente prescindible que son los adornos casi como tan necesarias son la lealtad, la amistad y el amor cuando se habla de la verdad en los libros. Y no hablo de la verdad desde una postura moral buenos vs. malos, limpio vs. sucio, que se impone a sí misma como medida de todas las cosas, hablo de la verdad en el espíritu, la verdad de la resilencia, la verdad de este mundo cruel y frío donde la belleza nos sorprende a la vuelta de la esquina. La verdad de la contradicción, la confusión y, en el fondo, de la esperanza.

Creo qué hay partes muy largas y confusas que se le pierden a uno si no está completamente atento y que de pronto a mitad del camino uno se pregunta qué tienen que hacer en esta parte o cómo se relacionan con lo otro.
Las partes más interesantes para mi son sobre su padre y su adolescencia y el alcohol. Creo qué hay una desfachatez allí que se extraña. No es la voz de una mártir ni de una Evangelista de la sobriedad, hay una forma de contestación dentro de su absoluta honestidad, incluso destellos de un humor ligado al carácter que en esta era del bienestar, el buenismo y la congruencia pura, se extraña.

Yo por supuesto no soy nadie para criticar (en términos periodísticos) el origen o la veracidad de sus fuentes que siempre son la base de sus aseveraciones, así que vamos a decir que todas sus fuentes vieron lo que dicen que vieron y lo que vieron es en verdad prueba de algo más grande que sólo Anabel es capaz de mirar.
Aunque varios episodios son simplemente inverosímiles y otros detalles aportan nada más que salsa al plato fuerte que es el mundo oscuro y “secreto” de los narcos que nos circunda a todos y todas en México de varias formas directa o indirectamente, entiendo lo que Anabel quiso decir acá: que como vivimos en un sistema patriarcal y machista las dinámicas de los más poderosos siguen siendo intercambios nada complejos entre machos y todas las personas más débiles a su alrededor a las que les pasan por encima sin escrúpulos pero que a la vez, de alguna manera, los legitiman.
El problema con este libro y con su abordaje disque feminista es que todo sigue escrito en una lógica de blancos y negros. Buenos y malos.
En este caso me refiero no a lo que dice de los líderes de los carteles que describe aquí (que en realidad sigue siendo el cartel de Sinaloa y sus posteriores fracciones), sé que en un momento de incertidumbre y desesperanza a veces necesitamos narrativas de buenos y malos para dotarnos de un poco de sentido lógico, de que todo lo terrible que vivimos viene de un lugar que podría ser neutralizado, sino a cómo trató a sus personajes femeninos en específico.
Si lo que quiso es criticar al patriarcado, en el fondo le hizo también la tarea en el libro al separar a las mujeres buenas, las mujeres que ella considera justas y puras, de las mujeres malas, las que no hicieron lo suficiente, las que son culpables y a veces hasta promotoras y auspiciantes de las decisiones de otros.
Con esto no quiero decir que las compas que están dentro de estos círculos no tienen agencia o no son capaces de decir que no o de renunciar a su vida para hacer lo mejor para “El País” pero sí hay un estigma enorme hacia ellas como si por ser mujeres y venir de donde vienen se esperara que fueran quienes arreglen estos asuntos y sacrificaran sus vidas y aceptaran ser mártires en nombre de un estado-nación que también les ha fallado a ellas.
Un estado nación que las ve al mismo tiempo como muñecas descerebradas al servicio del mal y como malévolas emperatrices de imperios que no son el político o el empresarial y por lo tanto no son de buen ver.
Como lectores deberíamos cuando menos preguntarnos a quién le sirven estas narrativas. Para qué sirven. Qué reflexiones son necesarias y cuáles nos tocan a nosotros.
La autora se ha quejado varias veces de que el libro se vea como un libro de chismes, pero la narración en el código de la la mujer buena, mártir, sacrificada y prístina vs. la mujer mala, ambiciosa, egoísta y con las manos ensangrentadas también genera morbo, porque nos confirma entonces que el código moral del patriarcado funciona y es válido hasta en estas críticas periodísticas.
Nos distrae del hecho de que todas las mujeres y las personas somos seres mucho más complejos, asediados por el miedo y gobernados por un sistema capitalista y machista a veces mucho más grande que nosotros mismos....more

Leerlo fue una montaña rusa, en algunos puntos me asqueaba y me parecía increíble los episodios que relata a partir de su experiencia en una industria despiadada y voraz, pero también frente a la fuerza recobrada de su cuerpo abrazando su rabia o pariendo a un chiquillo.
En algunos ensayos sentía que estaba ignorando el hecho de que ella también juega un papel importante y de privilegio enorme por encima de otros cuerpos y de pronto se me hacía aburrido que no reparara en que su visión sobre el poder, el éxito y la seguridad social puede estar completamente desfasado de la realidad de millones de personas a su alrededor.
En general creo que eso empañó la experiencia de la lectura. Entiendo por supuesto que entrarle al feminismo es en realidad un proceso, Ratajkowski misma lo ha dicho en varias entrevistas, y que mucho de su acercamiento proviene de la visión del feminismo blanco: la ruptura del techo de cristal y de engañar al sistema entrando en él como única revolución posible. Pero quién soy yo para juzgar a alguien que ha decidido hacerla así.
Las partes que más rescato tienen que ver con algo menos tangible, algo que tiene menos que ver con Hollywood y con las playaresas de "Feminist AF", sino con una experiencia de dismorfia corporal que —increíblemente— no se sobrepone a la experiencia de otros cuerpos disidentes y que está consciente del papel que juega en esa misma escala de valores. La dislocación de su consciencia frente a su cuerpo, la vergüenza, el deseo incontrolable e irracional de ser deseada por la mirada masculina más allá de su propia consciencia es algo que pocas escritoras, sobre todo de la talla de su popularidad, se atreven a confesar con todas sus contradicciones tan trasnsparentemente y eso se lo celebro muchísimo.
Pero nada, creo que las formas en las que construimos las imágenes de nosotras mismas dentro de un sistema se puede explicar acá en muchos capítulos y creo que la potencia del libro, para mí, es todas las posibilidades de diálogo sobre nosotras frente a la hegemonía y la belleza desde un cuerpo hegemónico y bello como cuando se habla de masculinidades desde la experiencia de los hombres que deciden cuestionarlo. Hay algo valioso allí que yo no alcanzo a nombrar del todo.

Hubo episodios en los que me dieron muchas ganas de cerrar los ojos y no seguir leyendo y liberarme de ese horror que describe, pero luego al final por alguna razón retorcida (yo creo que espejeante de los personajes) me sentí como liberada. Como si un tapón se hubiera salido de un chingadazo después del final.

Belén consigue una forma de hacer del relato del abuso que vivió algo propio, y es un relato rebelde, sin miedo a no ser suficientemente ser claro, sin miedo a ser conciso. Sin miedo a entrar dentro de un género o de seguir reglas narrativas.
Es, entonces, un texto muy doloroso. Transparente. A la autora no le da ningún miedo resultar incómoda o demasiado explícita.
Es valiente. Es poderoso. Irreverente.
Siempre me he preguntado cómo sería en su forma el reclamo que hemos hecho de nuestra historias y de la importancia que tiene nuestra voz, cómo contamos eso qué nos despedaza, que nos atraviesa. Que nos parte en dos y la autora aquí ofrece una respuesta.
Y en el fondo de cómo este lenguaje solo es posible articularlo cuando entendemos que está construido por fragmentos que provienen de una sociedad entera. Una sociedad que es cómplice y, por lo tanto, perpetradora.
A las compas que han sido/ hemos sido receptoras de violencia se nos exige mucho, se esperan muchas cosas de las “víctimas” a cambio de su solo reconocimiento como parte de un fenómeno que es permitido y a veces incitado por un sistema. En términos del relato, cuando ellas hablan se espera que sea un discurso esperanzador, comprensivo con todos los demás, educativo o didáctico, constructivo, coherente.

Es el relato en primera persona de un grupo de ambulantes que van en una marcha interminable y a pie, luchando por el espacio en la vereda pública que les corresponde y que los intereses económicos, disfrazados de políticos en Chile, les quieren arrebatar. Es un relato de los cuerpos que luchan, de las mentes que se van desgastando conforme pasa el tiempo y que son a la vez una hermosa contestación contra el régimen de lo “normal” y lo “bello”.
En algún momento también parece complicado de seguir porque está cruzando todo el tiempo el mundo onírico y el relato.
Me sorprendió las metáforas ocultas sobre el activismo y sobre la herencia que dejaron las primeras luchas a un grupo de neonatos que no saben muy bien cómo deben ocurrir las cosas y son caprichosos frente a las causas que defienden.

Cuál sería mi sorpresa que algunos cuentos sí me dieron miedo.
Lo disfruté sobre todo porque tenía mucho sin que algo escrito no me causara reacciones físicas tan específicas (que no fuera por lo mal escrito de algunos libros que leí recientemente) y eso me cautivó. No suele pasarme con emociones negativas, pero me causó mucho asco algunas descripciones físicas y de olores, así como horror e incomodidad de escenas que son bastante frecuentes en los periódicos pero cobran una dimensión distinta verlos de forma tan cruda en un libro.
De pronto me hace sentir medio incómoda la parte más de fantasía, porque no es el tipo de lectura que más hago, pero en general me pareció bien aterrizada cuando la hubo, sobre todo porque no es la parte más central de la narración. Las que nos hacemos viejas y nos hacemos daño sufriendo doblemente por "encontrar el amor", o su equivalente moderno de la relación (monógama o no), de las redes sociales, el Instagram y el desayuno, y también por formar parte de ese cliché de encontrarlo.
Es aterrador lo que cuenta este libro, al principio pensé que sería un libro como las charlas con muchas compas de cómo nos hace sentir el algoritmo de Tinder y las posibilidades que promete y no cumple, pero la verdad es que sí me dio muchas respuestas y perspectivas nuevas sobre lo oscuro que es realmente ese algoritmo, muchísimo más oscuro por supuesto de lo que nos atrevemos a imaginar.
Engrosó mi lista de lecturas futuras con sus referencias, pero sobre todas las cosas me hizo sentir que no estamos solas en esa batalla (de por sí perdida) de ser el cliché de la soltera que los medios han maquilado por años.
